Happy Friday.

Lead plaintiff in the Pennsylvania Voter ID case went and got herself a Voter ID yesterday. Needless to say, her lawyers are a bit pissed off, since that's likely going to frustrate their appeal.

The unfortunately-named "Troublemaker Fest" is apparently not a joke. Christine O'Donnell will headline a debate and film festival near the Republican National Convention with the purpose of "empowering" young people to vote against Obama.

That's all I got. Have a great weekend, ya'll.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Friday, August 17, 2012 and I just woke up so news will be a little at a time this morning. On this day in 1896 gold was “discovered” in Alaska, yes the real yellow kind and not the Jed Clampett stuff that so pisses off the watermelons.  This inspired a few songs from Johnny Horton.

57 Obama: I Don't Think Anyone Would Suggest I've Tried To Divide The Country

...real clear politics

I don't think (notice he didn't use "feel" -- and that he's in the negative)
Anyone would suggest (avoid the concrete, obvious evidence)
I've tried ("try"? intention aside, mission accomplished)
TO DIVIDE THE COUNTRY.

Three ambiguities, formerly dubbed nuances, before the point.

"Moi?" -- Obama

58 Christine O'Donnell will probably get air time on CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC.  But will she really matter?  Only if the GOP and Tea Party decide to treat her seriously.  Sweep her under the rub with Luap Nor and go forward to victory.

O'Donnell does not represent a major disruptive force.  Unlike Code Pink and OWS.  The Democrat Convention has many hydras they have to hide from people to get elected.  And some of those hydras refuse to stay hidden.

59 Yeah, I'll be fine. I tacked kidney stones without the use of prescription drugs, but, by golly, I'm tking no chances with my face. Day one: small pimple Day two: a little bigger, yuck Day two, 8PM: a little tingly feeling, go home, see its a cyst now. Work for an hour or so to clean it out. Painful! Day two, midnight: it's noticeably swollen, and painful enough that I sleep fitfully Day three, morning: I've got an egg in my cheek, do more work on it. Call my primary care. Day three, 1:30 PM: see PCP. Feel woozy and have a fever. PCP mentions that she doesn't think I will lose my eye over it (!!!) and sends me to the ER. day three, 4 PM: they have me pumped full of all kinds of good drugs and perform a procedure to remove the contents of an abscess the size of a golf ball. Ask me to return at midnight and next morning for more drugs and observation. This is day five, it's still growing, and I'm going back at 4 for another procedure. Weird...

Either way I am not "terrified" other than the fact I am not in the mood to use my superior understanding of the fragile nature of human physiology, practical database of kinetics, and exposure to tactical theory to win an argument with a bunch of programmed zombies that the NEA thought it would be funny to turn out as by rote activist robots.

Oh, I'm sure some/many of them sincerely believe that. But what they're actually doing is helping re-elect Obama even if there's almost no chance Romney can win Washington. That will be the objective result of what they're trying to do if they succeed. (Imagine the field day Barry's propaganda arm, the MSM, would have with that story if they succeeded.) No offense, but principles are important, but this is just misguided silliness. I agree with libertarians on a lot of issues, but I've never really seen much if any indication that they have enough common sense to actually govern.

Well, if there's one good thing to take away from Toure's comments, it's that between him and Biden, R/R should finally have had the last of the scales ripped from their eyes.  There is absolutely nothing beyond the pale for Obama and his gang.

OK, then - how about a little Cecil B. DeMille story to cleanse the palate?

DeMille was the man who did the most to establish the generic idea of "director" in the public mind - hacking jacket, riding crop, jodhpurs and boots, striding imperiously through the studio with a school of yes-men tagging along behind.  Although he could be extremely kind and was very loyal to his employees, he also lived very much like a sultan, expecting everyone to cater to him and devote their lives to his movies.

During one shoot, the cast and crew had been working for long hours and were near the end of their tether.  DeMille, sensing this, called "cut" and mounted a nearby sound truck, taknig a microphone in hand and giving his best rally-the-troops pep talk.  While he was doing this, he noticed two extras somewhere in the middle of the crowd whispering to each other.

"Just a minute, just a minute," he said.  "I was under the impression that we were here to make a movie - a lasting testament to the power and magic of film.  But apparently we are not."  He pointed to the extras, two women who were obviously what were called "day girls" - extras hired by the day.  "You and you," he ordered, "come up here.  Right now."

The two extras made their way through the crowd and up to the sound truck.  When they were standing next to DeMille, the director shoved the microphone in their faces.  "Now, go on," he commanded.  "I want you to tell everyone here what was so important that you had to talk about it right now."

The two looked at each other.  Finally, one of them took the microphone.  "I was saying, 'I wonder when that bald-headed old son of a bitch is going to let us have lunch."

The crew burst into laughter.  DeMille's face turned purple as he screamed,  "LUNCH!"

I'll probably be lurking most of the day, so if I don't comment again, I hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend.  I'll be back on Monday with the story of one of the greatest of Hollywood practical jokes.

Take care, Morons.

134 You're not poor because you made bad choices....that guy over that invested and works 14 hours a day getting data to know what his money is risking is the bad guy..... Gutting welfare reform by executive order was a really, really stupid move. Class warfare along rich vs. poor lines is getting torn out from under the democrat party in this campaign because LBJ's Great Society changed the terrain, and the dumbshits don't even know it. Carping about welfare queens in their furs and Cadillacs was uncomfortable because it opened the right to accusations of blowing the dog whistle. It was uncomfortable for me even to write that, but it forced Clinton to sign welfare reform. Obama has gifted us with "you didn't build that." The John Corzines, Elizabeth Warrens, Sandra Flukes, and the other real-life versions of that Julia cartoon are the new faces of the villains in the makers vs. takers debate. I feel no P.C. urge to denounce myself for smiling as I picture a boot stamping on those lily-white faces--forever (or at least until they quit trying to shove their grubby hands into wallet). Hell, even Ayn Rand wasn't brazen enough to write caricatures to such grotesque proportions.

139 Good morning and happy Friday! Today's Great Kindle Book under $5 is Vigilante Wars by Cecelia Holland (Kindle Single) Current Kindle Price: $1.99 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008JFWHF4 The 1849 Gold Rush in California brought to a boiling point the new state’s wild and unruly politics. Before long there was mob rule in the muddy streets of San Francisco. This decline of constitutional authority on the West Coast mirrored the fumbling actions of Congress and the federal government in Washington as a nation deeply divided over the slavery issue struggled to find a way to preserve the Union. Cecelia Holland’s compelling account of events in the city on the bay reveals a disturbing underside of the “will of the people” and the fragile nature of democratic government in a nation headed for civil war. Be aware that this is a Kindle Single, so it is short...approx 72 pages in print. However, it is jam-packed with information and such an interesting read that it is well worth the two buck price.

159 While you're out stocking up on Thomas Edison's light bulbs, you might want to grab some mouse/rat pellet poison too.  Yesterday, the Weather Channel website had a story that the EPA is moving to ban this household product.  You see, they believe parents are too stupid to keep the kiddies away from the pellet product and tens of thousands of children are exposed to the poison.  They're recommending "natural" rat repellents.  I'm sure that will work out oh so well.  Went to look for the link again, but can't find it since it was a highlight from yesterday.  Rest assured, big daddy EPA is going to protect us from ourselves once again.

Tell that to all the most indigent and old black residents of Chicago's old Altgeld Gardens public assisted housing project whom Obama threw out onto the streets without a roof over their heads in the dead of winter, for their own good, while his pinstripe lawyers with union contractors ripped off all of the appropriated tax funds designated for refurbishing and stole everything including the kitchen sinks, plumbing and wiring, leaving the housing project condemned and the black seniors as well.

175 Taxes here in Virginia seem to be about the same as they were in Georgia (not great, but not bad either) though they get more from different sources. Since living a few miles north of the NC border for a couple of years now, very, very glad we ended up here and not there (we almost picked NC)...higher taxes, a LOT more gov't red tape and the houses down there were a fair amount more expensive than here, too. New Hampshire is a great state for low taxes, but everything else costs a lot up there. Have heard only good stuff about Tennessee (which was actually at the top of our "would like to move to" list) but there are never any job openings there for what my wife does for a living. (I can work anywhere that has internet.) Texas is great for low taxes and low cost of living if you can take the weather.

So, why the brush back by Team Obama?

They've got Romney on the ropes - his negative ratings are up and his polling numbers in some key battleground states are down. They can't afford to let him get off the mat.

How does Romney respond? With a white board - laying out in painstaking detail the difference between his Medicare plan and the president's

That's a swing and a miss -- we know how well that approach worked out for Ross Perot.

Team Romney may need to transform Paul Ryan from budget nerd to street fighter.

The explanation is sort of backwards, but the arrest powers come with the gun.  To my knowledge there aren't any (non military) federal officers who are armed and do not have arrest powers.  So if an agency wants armed security at their facilities those officers also have arrest powers.

Of course this assumes that the security officers in question are Federal employees.  The agencies could, of course, hire private armed security guards.  There is a one word explanation why they don't and I'm sure anybody here could guess what that word is.

Yes.

Is ^This^ constitutional argument being made by the same vigilantes against holding Obama to the constitutional letter of the law standard of being a natural born American citizen?

Could have nipped Soetoro in the bud, but for the cowardice that the Constitution isn't a hill worth defending.

If you don't uphold what IS written in the Constitution, where's the ground for arguing against what is not written in the Constitution?

Convoluted. No thanks to apologists for corruption, the worst of all weevils is yet in power.

237 Some of the other stories there are tough. There are people who are told the state has no copy of their birth certificate. PA had no copy of my birth certificate either since my records were in a building that went up in flames. Guess what? It was a pain but the state did eventually reissue my birth certificate. I have very little sympathy for those who say it's impossible. No, it's difficult and time consuming and annoying but it's not impossible. Now, my situation is a little different because there was a mechanism in place to deal with this because it's not like I was the only one affected. From what I've read on this, there are those who legitimately do not have birth certificates because they were born at home or the records were lost 60-80 years ago and things like that. Even then, there are alternate ways to get documentation. Hard and annoying =/= impossible.

Having read the article, the ACLU seems to be taking the position that the Government isn't made up of human beings, just like they apparently believe Corporations aren't.

The "official" rules say that you need your Social Security card.  The unofficial (but, according to the article, fairly widely publicized rules) are that the workers are supposed to use their judgement when it comes to accepting alternatives.  And what she had as her alternatives were pretty convincing.

The ACLU (and her lawyers, specifically) cite the fact that the folks answering the phone keep reiterating that the SS card is a must, but isn't that just common sense?  You don't tell someone about "possible exceptions" on the phone, because then they'll come in and say, "But they told me on the phone that..."

By "Rural Poor"  they mean the Messicans who live in every tiny town that has some Ag Industry or Meat-Processing industry.  And the concern is not that that these folks aren't mobile enough to get an ID,  it's that they are too mobile to stay in a district long enough to vote there.  The gummint sent home a form on the first day of school entreating the migrant Messicans to apply for special benefits at the local school. I'm almost certain that an effort to pin them to a precinct is running parallel with this.   Some sort of absentee ballot for illegal migrant workers is likely being concocted, as this would allow the illegal to remain anonymous while voting from a distance, as well as allow local Dem manipulation of those same ballots.

The idea that if you're really old and poor you don't have any form of gov't ID in this day and age is a little silly.

>>Applewhite - who rode two SEPTA buses to get to the center - showed the clerk a Medicare card from the 1990s, its edges frayed from years of being pulled out of her pocketbook. It listed her Social Security number, but only the last seven digits were visible. A state Department of Public Welfare document showed her name, signature, and Social Security number - but all in her own handwriting. Other documents showed her street address in the city's Germantown section.

And I love this next line:

>>She had no documents verifying that the Viviette Virene Brooks listed on her birth certificate was the same person as the Viviette Applewhite applying for an ID.

Another person's story from the ACLU PA web site:

>> PennDOT officials advised her that she could not get a photo ID card because her birth certificate and Social Security card were in her maiden name while her voter registration was in her married name, and the mismatch precluded issuance of an ID. Ms. Block's only documentation of marriage, which she brought with her, is a marriage certificate written in Hebrew. The DMV clerks could not understand the certificate and refused to accept it as proof of her name change. Unlike many other Pennsylvania voters who do not have and cannot obtain voter ID, Ms. Block is fortunate to have political connections. Her family reached out to to the office of her state senator for assistance. His office worked with PennDOT to obtain a temporary voter ID for Ms. Block.

Now there's someone who did have actual issues. But it still doesn't say that she tried to get her Social Security card updated with her married name. That might not have been easy, given the language issue, but they still aren't being honest about the situation.

Yeh, yeh, I know. Just feel like spelling it out.

Okay, yes.  Theoretically the business could overdraw over that $2M and the bank would lose a little money.  The chances of that are miniscule, and they'd have to do it in the first year or two for the bank not to have already made up any money they could lose on that deal.

Any banker worth his salt would have taken that deal in a heart-beat.

280 On the SC v NC tax thing I have a few points.

Income tax is about the same

Property tax depends on where (county) you live but I do know that property taxes on cars are a lot lower in NC than SC because a bunch of people I know here who have parents in NC register their cars in NC to save money on taxes and insurance (insurance there is a lot cheaper too).

I have lived all over the country and taxes in BOTH SC and NC are relatively high, especially for the South.  I am paying about $1,000 a year taxes on my house.  If I lived in the local town that would be doubled. I know that some of you think that is low, but factor this in; that $1,000 is on an assessed value of $65,000.  If I were to "rebuy" my house now after 30 years it would go for somewhere around $130,000 and my taxes would be about $2500.  And also factor in the latest craze here in sales tax.  It is 8.5% in the county and 10.5% in town.

If I were moving now I would go to WY.  I have been researching that State and they have the lowest taxes I have found.

Yeah, but that's just bureaucratic stupidity.  I guarantee they wouldn't have turned her away for a birth certificate written in Spanish or Arabic.  At worst, they would have delayed until they could find some way to verify and translate the document.  In those two cases, they probably just would have taken her at her word.

And I'll even agree the State should issue guidelines on how to deal with those kinds of issues.  That doesn't invalidate the law in the least, though.

Don't forget the EPA cocksuckers.  Every one of them should be asked one easy question:  Do you consider CO2 to be a pollutant?  Every fucking one of them, and there will be a lot, who answers "yes" should be told "Good luck in your efforts to secure gainful employment; under Romney it should be a lot easier than the last 4 years, even for dumbfucks like you".  The paltry few who answer "No" will be assigned something worthwhile to do for the first time working there (I have no fucking idea what that would be other than helping dismantle that den of casuistry and calumny).

That's the point I was trying to make about how close wealthy men hold their financials. That's personal shit.

Men like him and Romney don't achieve what they have by letting pissants like Harry Reid or bank managers shove them around.

Couple personal anecdotes. I work for family business. Started by great granddad, my dad and grandfather still heavily involved. Lately, bonding companies have been insisting on personal indemnification for them to issue a bond (oversimplifying it, but essentially it's insurance protection so that if we go out of business in the middle of a project, the owner/general contractor isn't screwed). We've turned down TONS of work because the owners (dad and grandpa) respond to requests for personal indemnification with "FUCK YOU. There's a reason we incorporated." Ditto on finances. We've had large general contractors he requested that we allow them to see our finances, our bank statements, books, profit/loss, the whole nine yards. Pretty much same response. "FUCK YOU, never happening."

WY has no income tax or State sales tax. Local towns have a sales tax though.  The town I have been looking at is Worland and it has a 5% sales tax.  Property tax there is about 1/4 of what it is here and that IS in town.

I don't see how it could be "long term expensive".

299 #293  No bargaining on any of it.  The reason is that I believe they think they have something they can use in those returns,  because they have already accessed them.  Perhaps an un-PC investment,  a write-off,  an offshore account,  whatever.  There is something they think they can spin.

This is Obama's MO in all previous elections: accessing sealed records to personally besmirch an opponent. Obviously Romney knows it,  and is not biting.

Allen, you wanna tie this stuff together and blog about it? There's such a gap between reality and what the media is saying (GASP) and I want to see it spelled out.

The last entry on the ACLU page:

>>Mr. Schor has two forms of photo ID acceptable under the new voter photo ID law - a current passport and driver's license - but in both he looks like a woman and is identified as "female." He now looks and presents like a man.Given the stark and obvious difference in appearance and gender designation between Mr. Schor's identification documents and his current appearance, Mr. Schor has a very real and legitimate concern that poll workers will refuse to allow him to vote on election day in November when the person in his ID photos looks so different from the person who comes to vote.

It's now obvious to me that we should repeal all voter id laws to prevent possible problems like this.

The ACLU stories are all a bunch of trumped up bullshit. "Because she has political connection she reached out to a state senator"... the only way you need to be connected when you show up at your state rep's office is to tell them you are a constituent. They help you because they want your vote.

The requirements for obtaining ID are clearly defined on the PA Dept. of State website, they even relaxed the BC requirement, all you need to do is show up with two citizens who have valid ID who can vouch for you. (The feds used to do this with passport applications.)

This thing is going to end up like the WI recall: after all the litigation and protests, the voter ID law will stand. And those who finally obtained a state ID will benefit from that requirement. Who the bleep goes through life without a valid ID? You need one for any number of financial transactions, including applying for welfare entitlements.

One thing this show never explains properly:

How Daryl somehow keeps his hunting bolts separate from his anti-zombie bolts.  You simply cannot re-use a bolt from a zombie takedown to hunt for game without somehow first sterilizing it.  They'd be eating infected game and would have turned a long time ago.  Unless Daryl has the infinite ammo cheat turn on for his crossbow, he's reusing all his same stock of bolts for zombies and hunting.
