Happy Thursday.

Correction: Nelson up by nine. NYTimes reported the numbers wrong. Whoa. The latest Q poll out of Florida shows Connie Mack just jumped way, WAY into the lead, beating Bill Nelson by nine points. A Rasmussen poll released last week had it Nelson over Mack 47/40.

Phil Klein says the Akin affair could be a watershed moment for the conservative movement. His suggestion is that it could break the "typical pattern" where intraparty fights are framed as "grassroots" against "the establishment."

Of course, there are holdouts who would very much like to make this a grassroots v. Establishment fight. I was particularly struck by the defiant tone: "AkinÂ’s words, for which he apologized even though he had no need to, were right. He was entirely correct to say that pregnancies in cases of forcible rape are rare," wrote AFA's Bryan Fischer in a post aimed at "GOP hyenas."

So Democrats want to make the race about abortion? Alright, let's go there. We should definitely keep hammering the economy, but a few ads highlighting Obama's support for third trimester abortions should do nicely in say, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, August 23, 2012.  On this day in 1305 William Wallace was executed for treason via the traditional method reserved for treason.  His conviction for treason was somewhat dubious since he had never sworn allegiance to Edward Longshanks.  He is rumored to have told the executioner “but first you will blow me” before having his entrails cut out to be burned.

2 Fast and Furious “official” on leave is earning a paycheck from a private company while collecting his government paycheck.  Labor law does not allow you to cut off the salary of an “exempt” employee unless you fire them permanently or “lay them off”.  The congress critters probably are not aware of this.  However, if I m not mistaken you are prohibited from taking a second job unless you get “permission”.  With the lawless crowd in the DOJ you can expect anything.

3 OPSEC seal team responds to comments from Chief of Staff with essentially “you canÂ’t have it both ways” meaning that Obama canÂ’t use pictures of people in uniform for his campaign purposes.   They also said that Obama was doing a lot more damage revealing classified information than they could ever do by speaking out.   In short a big FU to the political general who is masticating the little dingle berries under the JEFÂ’s ass.  I guess as long as none of them are former officers they can pretty much get away with that.  Officers should be aware that they can still be prosecuted under the UCMJ for “speaking out” even after discharged.

5 Stupid.  Louisville Slugger and Little League Baseball will pay $14.5M to settle with NJ family after kid gets hit with line drive and suffers brain damage from cardiac arrest.  This used to be called tragic but tough break.  Who will pay?  Other little league teams and players through higher fees and people who buy Louisville Slugger bats.  Jackpot lawfare in the US is now the price of doing business.  And does this mean they will ban aluminum bats from little league?  Probably not, but I would like to see them go. BYW, I donÂ’t think they hit any harder than wooden bats, but I donÂ’t like the “sound”.

7 The Hill blows Obama some more with this stupid story from the Fed.

A third round of "quantitative easing" could be coming soon from the Federal Reserve if the economy does not pick up steam, according to minutes released Wednesday.

The Fed has been in continuous “quantitative easing” since China quit buying our T-Bills two years ago.   I guess what this means is they are going to dump another $600B of fiat electrons to the banks.  When are the MFM going to start reporting on this truthfully?  Hahahahahaha; I guess when they finally get around to reporting what actually caused the collapse, which is never.  Hell, they are still reporting the myth  LIE that FDR saved us during the depression.

I don't know why these people feel the  need to take this tack anyway.  Are pregnancies under these conditions rare?  Uncommon?  Unlikely?  Relatively infrequent?  Why are they even talking about it?  It happens.  So when it happens, then what?  If you don't have an answer for that, then shut up about it.

The more I see of the media this year, the more disgust I feel for the scum-sucking whores who have sold their souls to Choom Boy. Anyone who thinks a few less-than gushing mentions of that treasonous fuckweasel even begin to compensate for the non-stop shilling hasn't been paying attention. They are totally in the tank, and have no intention of changing.

Our only hope is relentless attack. If the truth is spoken often enough, a few of the 52% might -- just might -- catch on and start to ask questions. Otherwise the sheep will continue to lead the ewes down the tired old path of national destruction.

Yeah, I really expect the "conservative" eunuchs to wake up and start to lead instead of tittering at the Traitor-in-Chief's petty foibles. Any day now. Uh-huh.

With Rep. Akin putting his foot in his mouth up to the mid-thigh, the Republican chance to take the Senate is great danger. Now that Rep Akin has refudes to step down
our only chance is to find a suitable write in candidate. This candidate will need 4 things if they are to have any chance at all. They will need 1) enough personal wealth
to self finance, 2) Be a charismatic spokesman for true conservatism, 3) Have high name recognition, and 4) Be a popular and famous person with strong roots in Missouri.
Luckily there is one person who fills all these requirements. The answer to our problems can be summed up in two words:

 Senator Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh, a true son of Missouri can self-finance his own campaign. Likewise name recognition and worries about being a RINO will also not be problems. With Rep
Akin going down to certain defeat and taking Republican chances of holding the Senate with him, I urge everyone reading this to contact Mr. Limbaugh and urge him to

 "RUSH TO THE SENATE!"

Good morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.  I'm with Vic on this one.  After the convention, Romney's got money to burn and is going to slice like a f'n hammer.  It'll be "Akin who?" in a month*

Today in 1926, Rudolph Valentino died of a perforated ulcer.  There really aren't any stories about him.  Not that he wasn't an interesting man, but all that has come down to us are a few blurbs and blind items in the fan mags, which, half the time, were made up anyway.  Perhaps the most common story attached to him is that he was either gay or asexual.  This came up because of his bad luck with women - both of his wives were lesbians, though whether Valentino actually knew this or not is in doubt (by all accounts, he was rather a naif when it came to women).

He was very sensitive about his masculinity; when a Chicago columnist called him a sissified lounge lizard, Valentino challenged him to a fight.  The columnist refused, so in his place, Valentino arranged a private bout with Jack Dempsey, who told his friends that - contrary to what he'd thought - Valentino "packed a he-man punch."

Shortly before his death, another newspaper - in the midst of a column damning him for pansifying American men - called him a "pink powder puff."  While he lay dying, stoic even though in agonizing pain (remember, these were the days before antibiotics), he called a doctor over and gasped, "And now, do I act like a pink powder puff?"

And that's the story for today.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

*and if it isn't, a Moronette of my choice gets a free steak dinner.  But first you will. . .

80 I have been thinking about this, if the democrats want to own abortion as women's health issue, then let's give it to them.

1) Why is abortion considered a women's health issue when it destroys
approx. 600,000 woman utero?

2) If women cherish their "right" to an abortion then they should have absolutely no problem with looking at pictures of the ramifications of their "choice." Tasteful commercials of course.

3) A woman is 7 times more  likely to aborted by their mother than be a victim of rape.

I say if this is going to be make or break election, let's put it all on the line and let the chips fall where they may.

115 Hard to believe that Mack could be up on Nelson by anything approaching nine points. Got to be an outlier. But Mack is a strong candidate and the Dems at least will have to sweat that one out. The whole "establishment" meme regarding self-defeating GOP primaries always has been bunk and largely has been pimped by people who quite frankly are immature and cocooned to a point of absurdity. All politicians are part of the establishment. Anyone outside of politics instantly becomes part of the establishment as soon as they become a public official. What matters is removing the Democrat from office or preventing the Democrat from obtaining in the first instance that office. That so many conservatives and putative conservatives still haven't figured that out boggles the mind. Regarding the Dems' new obsession with abortion, indeed, that's a net positive for the GOP, provided the GOP does not overreach. With the exception of CO all the major battleground states this year are very conservative on social issues, most notably Fla., OH and VA. Obviously the economy is issue No. 1 and must remain issue No. 1, but there's nothing wrong with a little bit of ad money in targeted states pointing out that Obama is far to the left on social issues. Again, provided the GOP does not overreach into the arena of demagoguery.

121 The Dems will overreach on all this abortion stuff.  As we all know, it is who they are.

If they want to make their entire pitch to the country be that Republicans won't pay for abortions, let them.  25 million un- and under-employed could give a shit about abortion.

Remember, Dems only win when they hide who they really are as they did in 2008.  Whenever they let their true freak flag fly most of the country is disgusted by them.

Whenever I get worried about November I remember that my high school FB friend who is a lesbian public interest lawyer employed by LA County thinks she is absolutely on the pulse of "mainstream" thought in America and she is all-in on this abortion strategy.  She thinks it's genius and will resonate across the country.

Then I realize I'm not worried anymore.

It also helps scratches heal quickly. I pruned our pyracanthas yesterday, and the oil works perfectly on the welts. After a good cleansing, it's been an effective antiseptic for me.

Cedar mulch in the yard keeps the pesky insects at check. Normally in Texas we have tons of ants showing up, especially after rains. Not this year since this past spring I mulched with cedar. Haven't had to use the Amdro yet. Also, I water and feed songbirds, and have large fig trees that normally breed tons of mosquitoes. The cedar mulch really knocked out that problem to a bare minimum. We've had an unusually beautiful summer this year given rain.

I saw an article back in the Spring where they tested all the new and old bug repellant stuff.  DEET is still the best.  Deepwoods Off is still good even though the EPA made them reduce the concentration of DEET in it.

What we need to do is disband the EPA and fire everyone in it and forbid them to ever work for the government again.

161 @7 re new QE: Policy makers at the US Federal Reserve are leaning toward more stimulus action "fairly soon" unless economic data turns around, minutes from their meeting three weeks ago showed Wednesday. More like "fairly soon unless Obama's poll numbers turn around." "Many members judged that additional monetary accommodation would likely be warranted fairly soon unless incoming information pointed to a substantial and sustainable strengthening in the pace of the economic recovery," the record of the July 31-August 1 FOMC meeting said. If we were actually in recovery would this be necessary? Maybe, Ben -- just maybe -- that huge debt overhang you've built up is one of the primary dragging forces? Obvious answer: pile on more debt! "A number of members noted that if the recent modest rate of economic growth were to persist, the economy would be less able to weather a material adverse shock without slipping back into recession," it added. The worst "material adverse shock" to the economy I can think of would be Obama's re-election. Fed members discussed the merits of different approaches to sparking more drive in the economy, from signalling that they would keep their benchmark interest rate at the current all-time low longer than currently understood, to undertaking more bond purchases aimed at pulling long-term interest rates down further. Well, that's certainly worked great so far. Alternative idea: let market forces run their course, and let people and businesses reap what they've sown, good or bad. Radical concept, I know. Some said that a new Fed program to purchase Treasury and other bonds, pressing down their yields, "might boost business and consumer confidence", while demonstrating that the committee remains focused on lowering unemployment while keeping inflation under control. Um, isn't that what we've been doing for four years? Suffice to say, that approach has not boosted business and consumer confidence and lowered unemployment. Please tell us you've got something more, Ben. If not, be a man and resign.

The PJ Tatler has obtained documents from the Justice Department detailing efforts to recruit attorneys and staff who are dwarfs or who have “psychiatric disabilities” or “severe intellectual disabilities.”  On May 31, 2012, Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez issued a directive to affirmatively recruit people with these “targeted disabilities.”

This DOJ policy does not merely involve prohibitions against discrimination, but rather the documents reveal deliberate recruitment efforts to hire as attorneys and staff for the Department of Justice people suffering from psychiatric disorders and intellectual disabilities.

Those with “targeted disabilities” may be hired through a “non-competitive” appointment. That means they donÂ’t have to endure the regular civil service competition among applicants, but can be plucked from the stack of resumes and hired immediately instead.

Isaac's track, the center of probability, has shifted west this morning.  Which means Isaac will pass over the Florida Keys, sorry Jimmy Buffet fans, and into the Gulf of Mexico.  If this track stays true, Isaac will stay offshore as it passes Tampa.  Bad thing is Tamp will face the north east portion of the inflow.  So the storm winds will drive water into Tampa Bay, now if the storm is strong enough and happens when high tide happens.  Could be cause for concern.

259 Other than the fact that they're inconvenient, anyone know the policy rationale for removing these two obviously important factors from the official inflation rate?

The "official" reason is that they're "highly volatile."  Gas, specifically, is so pegged to oil- which is then pegged to so many other things, that it can really mess with the numbers, month-to-month.

Of course, month-to-month doesn't mean anything, and the trends will show despite any noise, so the real reason is the one you cite.

Also, I think it's time we start calling Barack Obama "President Lady Parts," since he seems to a) believe that a woman is only capable of voting with her uterus and b) that women are lining up around the block to kill their babies.

But given the weak kneed Republican leadership, always in malleable flux taking polls (a la shared values Clinton), I'd be surprised should the GOP go on as scheduled.

Even should the storm be the worst forecast, it's a matter of showing up in advance, cutting the celebratory hullaballoo to minimum, and completing the business working non-stop the first 48 hours.

That would prove how far Republicans go to achieve purpose successfully. "Against all odds, come hell or high water..."

They aren't the true believers like Boxer.

However, there is no way they will ever vote that way unless they are in the minority, and Obama is gone.  Safest way is to get them out of office, but it's not a disaster if you don't.  As long as we take the Senate.

Which we have a 95% chance of doing.

Maybe we should be telling young men that they will be paying for birth control and gyne visits.

Under Obamacare, insurers cannot charge women more for insurance than men... even though men have no need for birth control, or the more expensive procedure - childbirth.

So men will be paying as high a premium as women, since we know insurers aren't gonna eat those costs.

Add to that.. young men who rarely see a doctor if in good health, will be forced to purchase full service insurance plans including "free" doctor visits.  Young guys who could get away with $100 per month high deductible plans up til now will have to buy plans 4 times that much since those other plans will be banned under Obamacare.

I wonder how many young people are aware of this?

291 President Barack Obama is holding on to his lead in Ohio, but he now faces tighter races in Florida and Wisconsin, a Quinnipiac/CBS News/ New York Times poll out Thursday shows.

Here's how the new poll of likely voters compares to earlier Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times polls:

Ohio: Obama is at 50 percent, which is what the poll on Aug. 1 showed, compared to Romney's 44 percent in both polls.

Florida: Obama has slipped to 49 percent from 51 percent in the Aug. 1 poll, while Romney is now at 46 percent compared to 45 percent in the Aug. 1 poll.

Wisconsin: Obama has dropped to 49 percent from the 51 percent he had in an Aug. 8 poll, and Romney has inched up to 47 percent from 45 percent in the Aug. 8 poll.

"It seems like the pick of Paul Ryan has had some small beneficial effect for Mitt Romney," Peter Brown, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll,

296 "So Democrats want to make the race about abortion? Alright, let's go there. We should definitely keep hammering the economy, but a few ads highlighting Obama's support for third trimester abortions should do nicely in say, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin." wonder how they would react? They so do not expect republican to go there since conventional wisdom says it's a losing issue. Makes you wonder what they know and what they are doing if they do go there. 297 Obama supports not only 3rd-trimester abortions, but "POST-birth abortions." Specifically, babies who SURVIVE late-term abortion attempts and are BORN ALIVE were being left in soiled-utility closets to die (of dehydration, exposure, suffocation) and Obama vehemently opposed legislation that would have required that a doctor (other than the abortionist) have a look at them in the hospital. This wasn't a one-time goof on Obama's part, either. On FOUR occasions he opposed the born-alive infants protection bill, on one of those occasions even being the ONLY member of the Illinois senate to stand up on the senate floor and actually give a speech against the bill. This, from a guy who couldn't be bothered to do more than vote "present" on nearly everything else. What does that tell you? What a sicko. Incompetent candidates tend to select incompetent staffers. That being said, I still don't believe WHI is for real.

301 260 Were the required sex education effective, there wouldn't be unwanted pregnancies "requiring" abortion.

Were the abortion procedure completely dramatized, filmed curriculum that includes ALL of the pain and very drastic "unexpected" deaths of the woman due to unforeseen complications, kids couldn't claim ignorance.

The idea of becoming pregnant used to scare most girls into being "good" -- the fright of illegal abortions part of that fear factor. Now the "good" people perform hate crimes against life in gestation, effectively erasing all reference to humanity.

I counsel against abortion. But I'm not going to prevent a female from obtaining an abortion. That's between her and God. I don't want my tax dollars spent providing the death of her "unwanted" gestating life. Private institutions are available, privately funded, available without tax subsidies. Taking my money to fund death of the purest innocence is a heinous crime, dragging me into responsibility for what I've never done and have always denounced.

307 Yes, make an ad about the born alive legislation that Obama has supported in the past. And make them define "late term abortion", too. I mean, if we're supposed to noodle out all the various scenarios of how one can get pregnant - "forcible" rape, incest, etc. - then we should certainly analyze all the diff ways/timelines for the abortion to be performed.

Let the doctor decide if the baby's potential quality of life is such that it should be allowed to live. Jobless claims rise as labor market heals slowly

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits unexpectedly rose last week while U.S. manufacturing improved only slightly in August, worrisome signs for an economy struggling to create enough jobs.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits rose 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 372,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

337 This place links to Cracked a fair bit, but of course it's just a dumb liberal hellhole masquerading as being "independent". Here's an example comment from one of their recent "political" articles. Have fun!!!!

-------------------------------------------------
I think that the Republicans and Democrats being seperated as Right Wing and Left Wing is the biggest lie the Republicans ever managed to foist.

The Republicans are Right Wing, but the Democrats are centrist. All of their policies are pure centrist stuff. America should have health care like every other country on earth. Gays have a right to marry. Global warming is real and needs to be stopped. The wealthy have to pay their fair share of taxes. These are centrist positions - that the Republicans have convinced people they're liberal positions is diabolical.

Actually, "safe" doesn't seem to be all that easy, either. Witness the fits pitched when, in the wake of Dr Kermit the Philly Butcher, there were attempts to regulate and inspect abortion clinics the same as other outpatient clinics.

I had a conversation with my dad once about how statistics on how many women suffer punctures or lacerations to their uterus during abortions aren't even kept, because the percentage would be so high women might think twice about it.

377 Let's be honest, mostly all muslims are radical

This.  And we should be glad for this Dem foolishness - yet another ready made ad.  Muz are widely held in contemp, but most have to keep their opinions quiet or risk losing jobs and such.  But put this info in a good quality ad, and this will help keep those folks who converted on 9-11.

Alas, we will probably never reach the point where the muz can be gotten rid of once and for all (even most cons are too limp wristed to do what is right), but anything we can do to make their kind less comfortable, and to impede their immigration, is a good thing that buys us time.

Or Forced Labor Abortions where the baby survives and then is set aside to die?

Or as happened here in PA recently....the babies were born alive, and the abortion 'doctor' was cutting through their spinal cords with a pair of scissors at the base of their skulls to kill them. A number of them were near full term, and viable. That clinic also had no shortage of 'customers'...one or two of which died.

390 @381: "Alas, we will probably never reach the point where the muz can be gotten rid of once and for all (even most cons are too limp wristed to do what is right)" You should read what Geert Wilders proposes. Deport all radical imams, allow absolutely no Muslims to immigrate, shut down all radical mosques (which is like 80% of them), etc. Wilders's new book "Marked for Death: Islam's War Against the West and Me" is a MUST. Not only does he have something to say -- and has EARNED the right to be heard, the hard way -- but turns out he is a brilliant writer. Like Mark Steyn without the wisecracks. 394 I had a conversation with my dad once about how statistics on how many women suffer punctures or lacerations to their uterus during abortions aren't even kept, because the percentage would be so high women might think twice about it. *climbs up on the really tall soapbox* Whenever various organizations start talking about women's health issues, meaning abortion, I have a nigh to uncontrollable urge to start screaming about how PP and other abortion providers lie to women's faces about the risks. Yes, you can have a puncture or laceration to your uterus. Yes, chemical abortions can kill you. Yes, you can end up bleeding out from either one. Yes, you can end up sterile as a result. Oh, by the way, your body is going to go through some massive hormonal changes and that may cause other health issues. Hey, did we mention there's a risk of depression? The same people who shriek about the patriarchy refusing to conduct medical studies with women because women respond differently to medication than men are generally the same people who slam their mouths shut and pretend that abortion is safer than getting a pedicure. It's an invasive medical procedure or it is the introduction of highly toxic chemicals into the body. There are risks. Women deserve to know them. 410 "Aleph August 22, 2012 - 9:12 pm I hate that I have to say this, but in a time when our country’s unemployment is at it’s highest.. you want to eliminate government jobs? Exactly where are those people going to work, and how is depriving them of gainful employment going to help our economy in any way? Think more critically. We do not have a set of individual problems, we have a very large, multi-tiered system with a great many problems, some inherent and unfixable by definition. Each subsystem modified has a significant effect on all the others. Fixing things is a great deal more complicated than acting on poorly-reasoned talking points about ‘cutting back spending’ or ‘fire a bunch of people doing an important job, most of whom are individually not bad people’. The TSA serves a vital role, as an example; it however suffers from our government’s financial situation in that it cannot afford to train its employees better or hire more air marshals (as opposed to checkpoint guards). If you did away with the TSA entirely, air travel within and through the US would collapse entirely as confidence in the safety of such travel evaporated, destroying our airlines and crippling our economy even further. To be frank, the only way to fix the problems we have right now is a comprehensive increase of taxes, especially in the upper brackets, AS WELL as a very complicated and difficult restructuring of certain parts of the federal government. Military supply must overcome congressional parochialism and be centralized. The Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency need to be integrated into a single, more efficient organism. Nuclear power and robotics need to be fostered, rather than shunned, because our technological advantage is our only advantage in an increasingly globalized world market. Hundreds of other issues, many local and many national, need to be addressed. No person or group of persons will be happy with all of those changes, and many will be unhappy with most of them. However, our country is now in a position of do or die, and as painful as it will be, doing will be better than dying." this was on the guy's blog ....the one who outed the TSA at the Ryan rally in the villages. I feel like it is the perfect set of dem talking points right there. The tone is annoying. http://tinyurl.com/9t7c8jl

414 In an unusual arrangement, a senior official of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives involved in the controversial gun operation Fast and Furious is receiving his government salary while working full time for the investment bank J.P. Morgan, according to two Republican lawmakers.

In a letter Tuesday to B. Todd Jones, the acting ATF director, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said that Deputy Assistant ATF Director William McMahon, who oversaw the agencyÂ’s Western region during the Fast and Furious operation, has been receiving two salaries simultaneously.

The lawmakers said the ATF apparently approved allowing McMahon to remain on paid leave for four or five months while working for the investment bank in order to reach retirement eligibility.

“ATF has essentially facilitated McMahon’s early retirement and ability to double dip for nearly half a year by receiving two full-time paychecks — one from the taxpayer and one from the private sector,” Issa and Grassley wrote.

I watched some videos on youtube of his organization swordfighting and I agree it doesn't look like Hollywood swordfighting.  But also, it doesn't look very interesting.

I don't think it occurred to this douche that it's just possible that Hollywood swordfighting looks like it does because it is way more fun to watch than "legitimate" swordfighting.
