Happy Tuesday.

Boy, there really isn't any new politics news out there. The unplanned day off from Isaac slowed things way, way down. The only thing worth mentioning is this counterintuitive piece, "How Isaac Could Actually Help Mitt Romney," which was probably headlined "Conventions Don't Really Matter Any More" in its original version.

In other news, a new study finds that smoking weed regularly as a teenager can lower IQ permanently. Dude. Duuuuuuude.

The Apple IP win against Samsung is likely to raise the price of smartphones and tablets, though analysts hope that it also spurs some innovation.

A man was hit by two cars and killed while, apparently, attempting to fool passing drivers into calling in a Sasquatch sighting. The report vaguely and stupidly states that "alcohol may have been involved" but doesn't explain whether it was the drivers (one of whom was only 15 years old) doing the drinking or the Sasquatch impersonator or both.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Tuesday, August 28, 2012.  On this day in 1968 communist inspired and supported war protesters clashed with police in the streets of Chicago while the Democratic National Convention nominated Hubert H. Humphrey for president.  The MFM portrayed this as a police orgy gone wild.  They were completely hoodwinked by the radicals who used the same tactics that the communist inspired and Democrat supported OWS assholes plan to use in Tampa.

It was at this time that the Democrat Party became infested with the anti-military wing of the commies and they moved much further left.  I guess we can call this the commie strategy as opposed to the bullshit “Southern Strategy” the MFM likes to lie about.  This more than anything else drove the South into the hands of the Republicans. The other major factors were Lyndon Johnson which most of the South had grown to hate with a passion after his new round of welfare programs and yes, there was some racism involved as well.  But by 1968 most of the overt racism in the South was gone.

And yes, I dedicate todayÂ’s news to “Commies”, may they forever roast in Hell.

7 Shop owners in Tampa bracing for impact from Hurricane Commie “protestors”.

The city, according to the police chief, has spent its entire $50 million budget on boosting security measures. And the restaurants and shops lining the streets of downtown Tampa are taking their own precautions -- including stocking up on plywood to cover their windows and taking out additional insurance.

This shit would not be necessary if the Democrap Mayors in the large urban areas started treating these so-called protestors like the criminals they are.

8 http://tinyurl.com/8u2rv7x NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- More stimulus from the Federal Reserve would probably boost the stock market, but regardless, both investors and economists agree: They don't want QE3. In a CNNMoney survey of investment strategists, 93% said they don't think the Federal Reserve should announce more stimulus at its next meeting. And 77% of economists surveyed agreed. 19 The outrage of the day.  A federal judge in OH ruled yesterday that OH must count improperly cast votes if the mistaken votes were caused by instructions from a poll worker.  Now how in the hell will that be determined I want to know. This is setting the stage for massive mischief. And guess where this came?  ACORN.  This is judicial activism at its worse.  OH is one of those States where we must watch for vote fraud closely and this makes it easier.

28 We had a long talk about utilities yesterday and how they pool resources.  Here is a blurb from The State newspaper on that.

S.C. Electric & Gas Co. plans to send 159 contract linemen to Mississippi on Wednesday to help with storm damage to utilities. The crew is expected to leave South Carolina that morning to team up with Southern Co. for restoration efforts, spokeswoman Stephanie Jones said. SCE&G will continue to monitor any storm damage at home and in the region.

Note that some utilities now normally use a lot of “contract” linemen as opposed to permanent employees.   This is an outgrowth of federal and State regulations that make it more expensive to hire permanent employees.

30 Second no shit moment of the day.  The Washington Times ran a survey (which they called a poll) regarding what people knew about the Constitution.  Wonder of wonders, a lot of people donÂ’t know a lot about it.  I would hazard to guess that most of the reporters for The WaTimes would know less than the general public.  But be that as it may, this speaks to our shitty education system, which no longer teaches civics or the Constitution, the MFM, and lazy Americans in general.   Hey, most Americans donÂ’t know the infield fly rule either.

31 25 spypeach, it means the evil Republicans are responsible for the bridge trying to get ready to collapse...

Posted by: sven10077 at August 28, 2012 02:59 AM (LRFds)

32 Here is yet another example of how screwed up ObamaÂ’s spending priorities really are.  The Obamanites always harp about bridges, highways, and infrastructure.  When that bridge collapsed in MN it was all the rage.  But when he jacks highway spending to $107B, a factor of 3 higher than Bush where did it go?

If Obama was actually spending all this money on roads and bridges designed to get you to work and home quicker, then maybe this transportation spending explosion would be worth it. But he's not. In 2009, the highway trust fund spent $52.7 billion, but only 62 percent of that went to general purpose roads and safety programs. The rest was diverted into pet liberal causes like trolleys, bicycles, buses, scenic byways, historic covered bridges and "community preservation."

And that is only the part supposed to be going to highways.  He wastes the rest on shit like high speed rail to nowhere, AMTRAC, and other holes in the ground that commies love.  (The article also doesnÂ’t mention the 20% of highway taxes that are diverted to buses and inner city mass transit)

So the next time someone bitches about “infrastructure”, remind them of this shit.

What this study reveals, more than anything, is how few  studies there are about long-term effects of pot smoking.  I think  most of us have some anecdotal data to back up the findings here, and we also know some aging hippie who can't seem to remember where he's supposed to be, or what he's doing half the time.

It's not harmless, is the point.  Maybe you can smoke it, and lead a perfectly normal life, but it's having an effect nonetheless.

Nope got rid of it a few years ago in a highly controversial move.  From Wiki

In June 2004, the state's highest court ruled in People v. LaValle that the state's death penalty statute violated the state constitution,[2] and New York has had an effective moratorium on capital punishment since then. Subsequent legislative attempts at fixing or replacing the statute have failed,[3] and in 2008 then-Governor David Paterson issued an executive order disestablishing New York's death row.[4]

126 AN OPEN LETTER TO THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE By: Julianne Thompson – National Delegate, Georgia Chairman Reince Preibus, members of the Rules Committee, and the entire voting delegation of the 2012 Republican National Convention: As a National Delegate to the 2012 RNC, I am extremely disappointed that a rule would be passed through committee that essentially strips the grassroots of all of it’s representative power by ridding State Parties of their ability to choose whom they will send as delegates and alternates to represent their State to the Republican National Convention. The rules change would allow the Presidential nominee sweeping new power to override that process and choose their own National Delegates. The rule also allows the RNC (with only a 3/4 vote) the power to amend the party's rules without a vote by the full Republican National Convention. The GOP is the political Party of the grassroots. Our national delegates are the boots-on-the-ground that get Republicans elected. We are there for County meetings, State Conventions, National Conventions, and most importantly we spend our time and money canvassing our neighborhoods, going door to door, making phone calls, writing personal endorsement letters, and getting-out-the-vote for Republicans. We are the worker bees, and we are the heart and soul of the Republican Party. We have always believed that our Party is the one who best represents what it means to be an American…freedom! With your current attempt at this rules change, you are essentially striking the first blow that chips away at that freedom, and you disenfranchise the very people that turned the tide for the GOP in 2010 by returning power in the U.S. House of Representatives to Republicans. I would like to hope that our nominee is unaware of the skullduggery that occurred with regard to this attempt at shutting out the people that have unified to help him win in November. The audacity of creating a firestorm when there is an opportunity for unity and peace that is needed to win back the Senate and take back the White House is irresponsible and I seriously question the motives of those behind this attempt. Why the change in rules? That is the million-dollar question, and it is fairly easy to answer. There are still those in place in the GOP and on campaigns that would like to use the delegate and alternate seats as rewards for donating large checks to campaigns and the RNC. If your desire is to win elections, then I strongly suggest that you engage the grassroots and show respect to those who help put you in power. During a time that should ring of unity, you have put the GOP at a crossroads. Do you want to win this election and future elections? Now is your opportunity to prove it. Either take it to the floor and let us vote it down, and better yet, pull this insulting attempt to disenfranchise the heart and soul of our Republican Party! Sincerely, Julianne Thompson, National Delegate for Mitt Romney – Georgia

139 Penn St. says they are going to drop their traditional game day sing along to Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. They say it has nothing to do with the lyrics ("reaching out, touching me, touching you") but is rather an "updating" necessitated by the fact that so many other venues have adopted this song over the years. Um, yeah.

No, then it'll go to SCOTUS and we'll get this settled once and for all.

I disagree with you on this.  I think the Ronulans, whom I despise, are merely the subterfuge for disenfranchising the Tea Party.  The Paul-bots are just being their usual annoying pesty selves in backing their lunatic candidate.  But they aren't large enough to do more than embarrass themselves in a large forum.  This is really about smacking down the Tea Party which is the primary source of the fresh new candidates of the GOP instead of the donk mortuary of useless fossils.

190

Back in 1968, Mayor Richard J. Daley had the right idea, treat the commies who came to town to riot as criminals they were.  The actual citizens of Chicago (as opposed to the out-of-towners who rioted) approved of the Mayor's handling of the situation.  He continued to be easily re-elected  and died in office December 1976.

What never made the news (except locally) were the vast numbers of "occupiers" who came to town and took over Lincoln Park.  The riots took place in Grant Park which is right downtown, but the rioters took over Lincoln Park for their tent city.  They chopped down trees, built fires, pitched tents, ran around naked in the lagoons (filthy water on a good day, yech).  Imagine Woodstock in a densely pack city neighborhood.

210 From Morton Blackwell: Dear Fellow Delegate, On Tuesday of this week, as Republican National Convention delegates, you and I will be voting on rules changes that could fundamentally change our Republican Party — and not for the better. Over the years, I’ve served on the Louisiana and Virginia GOP Rules Committees. I currently serve on both the Republican National Committee’s Standing Committee on Rules and on the National Convention’s Committee on Rules and Order of Business. I was Barry Goldwater’s youngest elected delegate in 1964, I was honored to serve on President Ronald Reagan’s White House Staff from 1981-1984, and I have attended every Republican National Convention Rules Committee meeting since 1972. My wife and I have contributed major donations to the Romney-Ryan campaign. These rule changes are the most awful I’ve ever seen come before any National Convention. I’m writing you today to urge you to join the growing effort to stop the worst-ever changes in this Rules Committee’s Report and to vote in favor of amendments to Rules 12 and 15. The Minority Reports will restore important rights and protections which state parties and grassroots Republicans would lose under the Rules Committee Report as written. These amendments to Rules 12 and 15 are contained in Minority Reports supported by at least 25% of the members of this convention’s Committee on Rules and Order of Business. It’s rare for Minority Reports to come before our national convention, but the issues involved here are vital to the future of our party. I must tell you there is tremendous arm-twisting now to peel signers off of the Minority Reports. Finally, whether on Minority Reports or on voting down the Rules, it will require at least six states’ delegations to insist upon a roll call vote. I will not pretend that the deck is not stacked against us. But many state leaders, liberty-minded activists, and grass-roots conservatives are up-in-arms as word of this power grab spreads. Our convention will make this important decision Tuesday as some of our first work. Many folks skip these procedural sessions thinking nothing of importance occurs. This year, that is far from the truth. If the Rules Committee Report were to pass without adoption of the Minority Reports, it would amount to a power grab by Washington, D.C. party insiders and consultants designed to silence the voice of state party activists and Republican grassroots by: *** Handing national party officials the power to change national party rules adopted by state and grassroots leaders at the Republican National Convention. For generations, the prohibition of manipulated changes in the national Rules of the Republican Party between national conventions has served as one of the crown jewels of our party. It’s a power grab which opens the door to many future power grabs. *** Stripping state parties in all states with binding primaries of the power of choosing who will represent their states as national delegates and alternate delegates. This outrageous change would empower presidential campaigns to disapprove and remove delegates and alternate delegates selected by rules adopted by state Republican parties. Rather than grassroots activists who won delegate and alternate delegate slots by following state party rules, a large majority of positions would be handed to top donors of the winning campaign. *** Gutting the great and successful reform adopted in the current election cycle to stop the dangerous trend to front-load the selection of national convention delegates. Our party would move again toward a national primary which would deny grassroots Republicans the opportunity to vet presidential candidates in a nomination contest of reasonable length. This reform must not be abandoned. Like most of us delegates to this convention, I’ve spent years gladly battling in the trenches for our Republican Party. And as the President of the Leadership Institute — which specializes in training thousands of conservative activists, students, and leaders to fight for our country’s future –I can’t tell you how disheartened I am to see these rules changes even considered. These rule changes would give good folks like you less of a say over our Republican Party in favor of insiders and consultants in Washington, D.C. At a time when Tea Party activists have re-invigorated our Republican Party — leading to massive gains in the U.S. House, the Senate, and many state legislatures in the 2010 elections — why would we want to discourage activism? Thanks to their efforts, you and I have a new generation of exciting conservative leaders in Washington, D.C., who — in many instances –were elected despite the opposition of establishment-backed opponents. Certainly this is not to say GOP leaders are always wrong. But history shows that our Republican Party grows when we welcome newly active participants and treat them fairly. Our Republican Party is strongest when we listen to the wishes of grassroots conservatives. Instead of strengthening our party, these insider power grabs will weaken it. For these reasons, I urge you to join the growing effort to adopt the Minority Reports when the Rules Committee Report comes up for consideration by the convention. Morton Blackwell P.S. Some of the most important work of the convention will take place on Tuesday where you and I will be voting on rules that could fundamentally change our Republican Party for the worse. New rules will be voted on that have been designed to silence state Republican parties and Republican grassroots in favor of party insiders and Washington, D.C.-based consultants. The vote will take place at Tuesday’s convention session, and I’m counting on you join the growing effort to defeat these new rules. Please vote to adopt the Minority Reports on Rules and urge your delegation to call for a roll call vote on all Rules-related votes. This fight is too important for us not to make a stand.

Auditing the Fed is a profoundly bad idea.

As for jail, lots of bad ideas <> felony otherwise the toobz would be empty.

218 FACT CHECK: Anti-Obama film muddy on facts

WASHINGTON (AP) — "2016: Obama's America," a new conservative film exploring the roots of President Barack Obama's political views, took in $6.2 million to make it one of the highest-grossing movies of last weekend.

The assertion that Obama's presidency is an expression of his father's political beliefs, which D'Souza first made in 2010 in his book "The Roots of Obama's Rage," is almost entirely subjective and a logical stretch at best.

I can't seem to find the AP fact checks on any of Meathead Moore's or Al Gore's movies. Could it be the MFM has a bias?

As of 8am Eastern, Isaac is still a tropical storm with 70mph winds.  It is expected to tick up into being a hurricane within the next hour.

It is moving towards land at 8kts.  Official landfall is looking at 2am Eastern on Wednesday in Lafourche Parish.  At landfall hurricane Isaac will have 85mph winds.  Also expect to see a build up of surge water going into Lake Pontchartrain.

298 Apparently cooler heads have prevailed at the RNC while still being able to deal with the Ronulans:

Bopp had led a movement to defeat this rule on the convention floor Tuesday.

Instead, Bopp has agreed to compromise language. The RNC Rules Committee will meet Tuesday to approve the replacement language, Bopp told ABC News.

"The leadership of the Republican National Committee and the Romney for President campaign has heard the concerns of the conservative grassroots voices in our party and has crafted an amendment to the Rules adopted on Friday to address these concerns," Bopp wrote in an email to Republican National Committee members. "At the same time, the revised language closes a loophole in our party rules, which previously failed to include a penalty for delegates who break their promise to vote for a particular Presidential candidate as required by state law or state party rules."

Bopp explained the impetus for the proposed change, in the first place, as fear that Ron Paul supporters bound to Mitt Romney would break party rules and instead vote for Paul. The rule sought to prevent that risk at future conventions, Bopp said.

The compromise language simply states that delegates must vote for the candidates to whom they are bound, Bopp said. If not, they'll be kicked out of future conventions and votes will be cast on their behalf.

The deal likely will not, however, allay some concerns of Ron Paul supporter.

I'm fairly certain that the entire school board would be able to comprehend the sign that I would be giving them if that were my child and they told me that. Also that's opening up a loverly Federal lawsuit because I'm going to go out on a limb and say that violates a metric fuckton of laws and regs concerning mainstreaming a disabled child.

Biggest load of bullshit ever. I took an ASL class in college and my then girlfriend (now wife) has a minor in deaf education. I can't think of a letter in sign language that looks anything like a gun. And FYI, most deaf people don't sign their name on a regular basis. Then any deaf person with a "L" in their name would be forced to change it under their reasoning. Fucking. Stupid. And if it's what I suspect, the kid's name sign, good luck changing that. Name signs are a huge source of pride. A deaf person doesn't pick their name sign. It's chosen for them by close friends/family/etc. It'd be like your best friend giving you a nickname, one that you actually used as your name and then being told it was offensive and that you had to change it.

Posted by: cynder ella at August 28, 2012 06:19 AM (oZfic)

338 I think the rules change thing is a bad idea. I'd prefer Romney go into his first term planning on doing such a stellar job that things like a few rogues delegates don't matter. And, if this is about the Paulbots (which I kind of doubt), then the solution is to discredit their movement and expose their motives, not eff around with rules in such a heavy-handed way.

339 Posted by: Miss Marple at August 28, 2012 10:19 AM (GoIUi) "difficulty with traffic" is a nice way to put it...lol I used someone else's word from a comment I read from a non paulbot, tea party person Romney could lose the independents if he's viewed as a dictatorial type or worse if he's viewed as being run by the people who are supposed to work for him. Did no one in the campaign consider the optics of this? Are you not hearing from people at the convention who are not at all happy?

Posted by: cynder ella at August 28, 2012 06:22 AM (oZfic)

340 Y-not,  you can suspect what you want,  but the fact is that the Paulbots have been working on hijacking the convention for some time,  by machinations in the Western state caucuses.

Because I am completely against this type of double-dealing with delegates,  I support the compromise.  This is not about Romney worrying about his second term.   It is about what is going on right now.

I am paying attention to this because I distinctly remember how the democrats were taken over by the leftists from 1968-1972.  The Paulbots are using a lot of that strategy.

We do not need two parties taken over by the left.  So I am glad they figured out a way to stop delegates from reneging on voting their committed vote on the first ballot.

341 Betsy McCaughey has a Ph.D. from Columbia University and has gained recognition as an expert on health-care policy, authoring a recent Encounter Books "Broadside" called The Obama Health Law: What It Says and How to Overturn It. McCaughey spoke Monday at an event hosted by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, where she described her analysis of research that she says demonstrates that Obamacare "is likely to cause an estimated 40,000 unnecessary deaths each year" among hospitalized Medicare patients. Policy experts might dispute McCaughey's analysis and I lack the expertise to evaluate her research, but as soon as she described it to me in the hotel lobby, I recognized it as newsworthy. Democrats have repeatedly accused Republicans of scheming to kill old people through Medicare cuts, a tactic that included a TV ad showing Paul Ryan literally pushing an elderly woman off a cliff. Yet here was a scholarly GOP politician citing research data in support of a conclusion that is the mirror-reverse of that perception -- to summarize McCaughey's research quite bluntly, Obama's plan will kill Grandma.

344 Christie is apologizing for Romney's "birther" joke. The keynote speaker and 2016 candidate says, "I think if he had to do it over again, he wouldn't make the joke." The real source of the Demorats' outrageous outrage is that they have to defend MI and they know Obama took a hit with the Priorities USA ad. They are playing the race card to earn him sympathy. Priebus et al. needed to be prepared to defend what was fighting words on Romney's part. I just don't see how they're shocked when the MFM get together and start clucking their tongues, while Obama can scratch his finger, wipe his feet, etc. The "dignity" argument is BS. But they also should be prepared to say, "Hey, advocates for Obamacare point to Europe and say our country is lagging behind because we're not more like them. Obama has pushed for European social democratic policies, and that's what we're talking about. This election is a referendem on Obama's failed policies." How come the RNC chair can't say that? I feel bad for him. He probably didn't see Tingles going off the deep end and filling his Depends. But the national party should have been ready for a lot of butthurt from Team Obama. Chris Christie isn't helping, either. I don't like this leak that he sat out this race, because he agreed with Ann Coulter that Romney would be the nominee and lose. It sounds like he's buying his own hype, even if it didn't come from him. He should have used this interview to correct that rumor and state his support for the GOP nominee, not speak for him. When Romney wants to apologize, he'll do it himself.

OK, 'rons and 'ronettes -  let's see if this works. . .

TodayÂ’s story concerns Paul Bern, the MGM producer responsible for the classic Grand Hotel and known as a friendly shoulder to cry on by the lovelorn women of Hollywood.

In July of 1932 Bern became the most-envied man in filmland, marrying the sensous, delicious Jean Harlow.  But only two months later, Bern was dead.  Near his body was found this note (all spelling and punctuation sic):

Dearest Dear,
Unfortuately this is the only way to make good the frightful wrong I have done you and to wipe out my abject humiliation.  I Love you.
Paul
You understand that last night was only a comedy.

What on earth did this mean?  This being Hollywood, rumors started floating around almost immediately.  Bern was impotent, some said.  He was somehow sexually deformed, nodded others.  He was asexual, others insisted, noting that while he always had a beautiful woman on his arm, no stories of his bedroom prowess (or lack of) had ever come to light.  Still others insisted that the “abject humiliation” and “comedy” meant that Bern was a pervert who could only perform while engaged in some sort of B&D act, and that it was this that had horrified Harlow and in turn led to BernÂ’s suicide.

And there matters rested until 1960, when the writer Ben Hecht theorized that Bern had been murdered by some unknown woman, the suicide note and rumors all part of an MGM-arranged cover-up.  Hecht was so insistent that the LA District AttorneyÂ’s office reopened the Bern case, but soon closed it again due to lack of evidence.

Then in 1990, producer Samuel Marx – a friend of BernÂ’s – co-authored Deadly Illusions, advancing the theory that Bern had been murdered, but not by an unknown woman.  The killer, instead, was BernÂ’s common-law wife Dorothy Millette, who was known to be mentally unstable and insanely jealous, had been seen in the vicinity of BernÂ’s house shortly before his death and who herself committed suicide immediately after his death.

Hecht had been partially right, Marx said.  There had been a cover-up.  But it was Irving Thalberg and Louis B. Mayer behind it, forging a suicide note and then launching the whispers about BernÂ’s impotence in order to avoid any scandal that might hurt HarlowÂ’s career.

Jean Harlow never spoke about Paul Bern again.  She died of renal failure in 1937.

The 2009 documentary The Six Degrees of Helter Skelter features a brief interview at the Bern house on Easton Drive in Beverly Hills.

347 Hmm.  Formatting's off.  But I've got the general idea.  Thanks, everyone, for your help.  Hope you like the story.

348 Posted by: Dr. Koop at August 28, 2012 10:38 AM (e8kgV) Speaking of the infamous Ryan ad, Dennis Miller was on The Tonight Show talking about the convention. He quipped that everytime he sees that ad with Ryan pushing grandma off the cliff, he's disappointed it isn't Pelosi. Then he really rips into her and Biden.

349 350 Bern's ghost is one of the most famous hauntings in Hollywood. The house on Cielo Drive in a posh section of Benedict Canyon later belonged to the hairdresser played by Warren Beatty in Shampoo. He was a friend of Sharon Tate's, and she saw Bern's ghost warning her how she would meet her own demise.

350 I'm down with the rules change. After O'Donnell, Akin, Angle and all the nuts running in this year's primary just to sell books, it's time to rein in the crazies.

351 354 I'm down with the rules change. After O'Donnell, Akin, Angle and all the nuts running in this year's primary just to sell books, it's time to rein in the crazies. ---- How does it prevent people from running for office? And, if it does (which I don't think it does; I think it affects delegates going to the convention), why are you ok with a central organization deciding who can run in a state primary?

352 This is not about Romney worrying about his second term. It is about what is going on right now. ------ The rule takes effect in 2016.

353 “The leadership of the Republican National Committee and the Romney for President campaign has heard the concerns of the conservative grassroots voices in our party and has crafted an amendment to the Rules adopted on Friday to address these concerns,” he said in an email to Republican National Committee members.” http://tinyurl.com/8twzay7 wow, just substitute "the king" for "the leadership of the Republican National Committee and the Romney for President campaign". The words "has heard the concerns of the conservative grassroots voices in our party".....make you go there. Geez are the republicans deliberately sabotaging their own success?

357 Thanks, Mary. Just googled him, and his name was originally Tom Kummer. Why would you change such an awesome porn name if you're getting that much action? Another headline, how does a ghillie suit look like a sasquatch? It's camouflage, which explains why those poor kids didn't see him till too late.

358 The old original house on Ceilo Drive was razed down to and including the foundations and a new one built. That should eliminate any ghosts from the poor unfortunate victims of Manson.

359 "There are still those in place in the GOP and on campaigns that would like to use the delegate and alternate seats as rewards for donating large checks to campaigns and the RNC." That's not to say these grassroots organizations can't act as bundlers and buy their own seat at the table. That's what they're supposed to do. Put your money where your mouth is. They've done it with money bombs. Or have they? This means the money goes to the national party instead of to gadflies and fringe candidates. It prevents outside interests from tampering with the party's nominating process.

360 That should eliminate any ghosts from the poor unfortunate victims of Manson. Posted by: Vic at August 28, 2012 11:33 AM (YdQQY) Earlier I mixed up the addresses. They're close to one another. Sebring was a friend and neighbor who lived in the Bern house on Easton not Cielo. Bern's ghost appeared to warn Tate, so the story goes. But yes, the house where Tate died on Cielo was razed to the ground in the 90's. Sorry for the mistake.

362 Maybe Rush is the surprise speaker, or michael savage. It better be someone really good for all the hype and mystery surrounding it emanating from the convention. Also emanating is the delegates are saying the matter of the rules change is not resolved.

363 #356  Yes,  but this delegate switching votes is being attempted right now.

I cannot help it if this "establishment" paranoia is seeping into every single damn thing that is done.  Are their people who are "establishment?"  Yes.  Some of them are actual elected officials.  And there is also an "establishment" grass roots group,  led by pot-stirrers like Mark Levin and Michelle Malkin.

The RNC people are trying to stop the Paulbots from impersonating regular Republicans.  I do not see that as persecuting grass roots people.  If the grass roots gets enough votes,  then (by the compromise) their delegates can vote the way they said they would.  I do not like any delegate switching a committed vote,  on the first vote,  to someone else based on hidden loyalties. And if Paulism is so popular,  then they will win primaries and get to vote the delegates up front.

I would not like it if any candidate, including Romney,  attempted dishonest representation of his or her intentions.  If delegates can vote for whoever they want on the first ballot,  then why are we having primaries?

364 Tropical Storm Isaac has reinforced my view that the MFM are useless. I have been following the storm mainly through the Weather Nerd and Weather Underground websites. There, I get information about wind intensity, eyewall strengthening, hurricane tracks and their relative historical accuracy, how low pressure troughs are steering the storm... all useful and interesting information. Whereas, when I see the storm covered on the news networks, the story is reduced to where is it going to hit? Do you think it will be a disaster (oh please! oh please!) Hey, it's gonna hit New Orleans, wow just like Katrina? Remember Katrina? Boy, George W. Bush really sucked after Katrina. BTW, the Republicans are holding their convention during a hurricane, isn't that sort of callous? Doesn't it sort of remind of you George W. Bush?

Mary Poppins,
I really enjoy your stories, so thank you. You and Vic make this such a nice way to start the day. I have a request. could you do a story on either Clark Gable or Ronald Coleman? Those are my faves! thanks!

Chilling, I don't know if you'll read this far.  I don't know any Colman stories, but I do know a couple of Gables.  I'll post them tomorrow.

367 56 And why do they call it "The Bay Bridge". The Bay Bridge is the one that connects Oakland to San Francisco.

Sorry Vic. I'll give you the bridge, since theirs predates ours, but Baltimore has been the city by the bay since long before San Fran was a gleam in a choomin' hippie's eye.

369 The cool thing about Isaac is it formed around the time of Isaac Hayes birthday and death. He died a week shy of his 55th birthday in 2008. It's totally his spirit riding the wild winds and stirring up dispersed oil sitting on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. His salty chocolate tar balls will wash up all along the southern shores.

Speaking of the Tate house - in the Manson documentary I mentioned above, the narrator takes us up to the gates and notes that only the telephone pole which Tex Watson climbed to cut the wires remained of the original layout.

That was in 2009.  As of now, the pole is gone.  Nothing remains of the original 10050 Cielo Drive property.  Even the address has been changed, to frustrate curiosity seekers.
