I certainly agree that the race is Mitt's to lose, but we should also note that not everyone who is concerned is a troll.  Pat Cadell, Doug Schoen, and an (ex?) GOP congressman appear on Fox and they have been expressing concern for months, including this weekend.  Sure, the first two are at least nominally Dems, but are certainly friendlier to our side than the average.  Cadell in particular has been willing to call Obama out when he's been wrong.

Saw Romney talking about Obamacare overhaul.  He talked about the pre-existing conditions coverage specifically.  Think this is a good strategy as the commies always use the pre-existing conditions as their basis for the wonderfulness of Obamacare.  The libs focus on this one coverage issue because the rest of the law is such crap.  It's all about emotions with the commies.

One good point (among others) made by Levin is that the big ado made over what Romney said is due to journalistic conflations, confusions, and ignorance (buying into the Democrat narrative about Obamacare). And more importantly, in my opinion, a big dose of MSM "concern trolling" (echoed by actual concern trolls in blogs, and then actual conservatives who get alarmed).

I.e., it's part of the "demoralization" campaign. Romney spoke of things that have long been part of Republican/conservative ideas for health care reform, independently of Obamacare, but the media spins this as "wanting to keep parts of Obamacare." Even though Romney said no such thing, that was the MSM headline. As if all health care reform ideas now equal "Obamacare." Don't fall for it.

Regarding the polling, let's look at the logic involved.

All of the polls, and I mean ALL of them show that the top issues among the electorate are job, economy, and debt.  Among those three issues, Romney leads by a substantial margin.

However, all of the polls also say that Obama is personally likeable, and that by a small sliver of a margin people will vote for him.

Meanwhile, the economic hits keep right on coming, the price of beef is up 50%, gasoline up, no one can get a job, people are giving up and going on food stamps and disability.

How does that picture make any sense?

That is so nonsensical that I automatically start looking for another explanation, one that also includes Rasmussen's polling.

I suppose it is possible that for the first time in history, people will vote against their own self interest to vote for an empty chair that the media tells them is really cool.  But I think I want to see actual election results before I believe that is going to happen.

Haven't read yet (this is the HQ -     I can't be expected to READ things befor I comment on them   )     but even so I think he has a point.         Journalism is just that --   the    journaling of events,    recording them for contemporary and future audiences.        When done correctly,      journalism     is     a good way for the average citizen to educate themselves about the events of the day.     Your average individual doesn't have the time nor the resources to go to every     legislative hearing,     read every police blotter or     law enforcement press release,     watch every variation of the stock market.       We depend on others to do that for us     and then provide us with a   user-friendly summary that gives us the     information we need to make informed decisions.

My last year before retirement at a large multi-billion  multinational I was doing my job, the job of another person for 4 months, trained the new person for that job, covered for another when she went for surgery and was out a month, covered for my boss when she "had" to take her vacation because by god she had it planned already when the other one was out for surgery. (so for 2 weeks doing 3 jobs) Plus I had 30 years in, 5 weeks vacation that I could only take 2 weeks of that year by making 3 or 4 day weekends because no one knew how to do my job, or to lazy to do it properly. Come review time, my boss gave me a 3% raise. I felt lucky because the last 8 years there most raises were in the 2 to 2.25 range for me, and I was on the high end of the raise scale.

Maybe I just read it wrong, but it looks like 16% is what Rahm is offering, and they're only "close" on compensation.  That is, the teachers haven't accepted 16%, either.

Of course, their biggest problem seems to be against any objective form of evaluation, since any objective evaluation would prove that 6,000 of them are simply wastes of carbon, and subjective evaluations can be argued and fought until the district just says "fine!" and just moves the teacher instead of firing them.

Good morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.  Haven't read through the comments yet.  Many apologies for the late start, but I overslept and had a ton of things to clear off the desk first.  But, now, to our regularly scheduled story. . .

 

Yesterday in 1921, a young starlet named Virginia Rappe died in San Francisco.

 

Who she, you ask?  Well, she was soon to be the centerpiece of three of the strangest, most vicious manslaughter trials in American history, all with the same end – putting to death the great silent comedian Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle.

 

A little background first – born to a single mother in 1895, Rappe (real name Rapp) began a career as an artistsÂ’ model at age 14, becoming fairly successful (she once posed as the girl for Sunkist Raisins) and, by 1919, an up and coming actress in movies.  By then, she had already had a child, whom she put into foster care, and may also have had the first of several abortions around the same time.  In 1919, she began a relationship with the sleazy – if successful – director Henry “Pathé” Lehrman,* though she had a reputation as a good-time girl.

 

How deserved this reputation was is unknown.  There is a famous story that, when working on the Keystone lot, she gave crabs to almost the entire crew, forcing studio chief Mack Sennett to fire her and have the place fumigated, although recent research suggests she was a little promiscuous, but not an out-and-out Sandra Fluke.

 

LetÂ’s move on to the Labor Day weekend of 1921.  Arbuckle had just finished filming three movies and needed to blow off steam.  He gathered a group of friends and headed to the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco for a weekend of partying, wenching and boozing.  Among the “friends” was cameraman Fred Fischbach, someone about whom weÂ’ll hear more later.

 

Once booked into suites 1219, 1220 and 1221, the party started.  At some point, Rappe entered.  Arbuckle didnÂ’t know her, but he did know the woman escorting her – Maude Delmont, a shady character known not only as a procuress, but also a blackmailer.  ItÂ’s not clear whether Arbuckle knew Delmont was coming, or whether he objected to her presence; nevertheless, she stayed.

 

The party went on.  At some point, Rappe became hysterical and tried to tear off her clothes.  Thinking she was drunk or suffering from bad booze (remember, this was during Prohibition, when “bathtub gin” could kill you), Arbuckle carried her into his bedroom, laid her on the bed and left her alone.

 

What happened next will probably never be known, but it hasnÂ’t stopped hacks like Kenneth Anger from imagining the worst.  Rappe, drenched in sweat, began screaming in pain.  A doctor was called; he diagnosed RappeÂ’s condition as drunkenness and gave her some morphine to calm her down.  During her screaming fit, Rappe was alleged to have said “Arbuckle did it” or “He hurt me,” allegations that would come back to haunt the comedian.

 

Two days later, Rappe was hospitalized.  Her problems were much more severe than just rotgut booze.  She suffered from chronic cystitis, a condition aggravated by her heavy drinking.  As weÂ’ve seen, she was also the veteran of several abortions as well as a VD carrier; she may also have been preparing to – or have just had – another abortion.  On September 9th, she died from a ruptured bladder and secondary peritonitis.

 

At the hospital, Delmont told the attending doctors that Roscoe had raped Virginia.  She also sent a telegrams to attorneys in San Diego and Los Angeles reading “WE HAVE ROSCOE ARBUCKLE IN A HOLE HERE CHANCE TO MAKE SOME MONEY OFF HIM.”

 

Arbuckle didnÂ’t know it, but he was a dead man walking.

We've seen the release of Obama 100+ mil fundraising top-line but no cash-on-hand figure.  After a solid month of almost-comical Obama begging for donations.

They are trying their best to create an impression of inevitability now.  Just as they spent hundreds of millions to try to knock Romney out before the conventions. 

All of this is designed to get the electorate to not look at the only metrics that matter, economic ones.  The Michelle speech pitching BO as a family man, the Clinton speech pitching "no one could have done better," and Obama pitching "this is about you, not me" are all designed to make people think about 2008, not 2012.

Yet, in their own internal top-line, take-temperature polling the only question asked after "Romney or Obama?" is on the economy.  The Obama people have shown by their actions that they know what the real issue is and how important for their guy it is that they convince everyone to ignore that real issue.

Don't fall for it.  They've been playing this same game all along.  These are just variations on a theme.  Romney isn't panicking because he sees the same numbers in his own internal polling. 

Jeez.  Use that grey mass inside your heads.  God gave it to you for a reason.

360 PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida -- A teenager is recovering after police say he shot himself in the penis and testicle while cleaning a gun he just bought.

It happened Thursday morning at a home on the 200 block of Verada Street in Port St. Lucie.

Police say 18-year-old Michael Smeriglio first lied to police saying someone shot him while he was walking down the street. After being questioned by police he admitted to accidentally doing it himself.

Doctors say the bullet went through his penis, his left testicle and then lodged itself in his thigh.

Smeriglio told police he bought the gun last month at a party.

While police were investigating at the home where it happened, they discovered marijuana in the house. That led to the arrest of the homeowner Joseph Lamar James, 22, on drug charges.
