Top Headline Comments 9-11-12
— Gabriel Malor

Eleven years, I can hardly believe it. As you go about your day, keep in mind not just the people who died on 9/11 but also our service members and allied service members who have died since then to ensure that 9/11 never happens again.

In news, I hereby officially declare the Obama Clinton convention bounce over.

A Democratic poll out of Minnesota has Rep. Bachmann up only 2 points over her challenger Jim Graves. I find it hard to believe, but it's something to keep an eye on.

4 LOL, Clinton convention bounce!  That's how I read it, too.  It wasn't Obama and it wasn't the specifics of policy, it was just nostalgia for a guy who can lie to you and make you love him for it.

6 Good morning.  The weather today is eerily like that of 11 years ago here in Indiana.  Cool and crisp,  cloudless sky.

I won't ever forget the events of those days.  I also remember the exact time that the democrats decided that it was more important to destroy Bush than to support our country: Hillary Clinton standing in the well of the Senate waving that paper with the "Bush knew" headline.

And I see today that they are dragging out that canard again,  just in case we might think that Bush did a pretty good job.

I cannot help but think that these are evil people.  Just plain evil.

22 11 -

I'm assuming your students are at least old enough to remember the day?  I've seen plenty of those commemorative slide shows, and many of them are quite well done, but there is something of an artificiality to them.

What I mean is, I already have my memories.  They're in there, and some of them are difficult to face, so if I insert someone ELSE'S in, it in some ways allows me to experience it without having to really feel it.

Does that make sense?  If so, consider doing some sort of meditation/mindfulness exercise with them, so they must recall their own feelings and thoughts and images of the event.

Just an suggestion.

23 So.

The Democrat/Media Complex attempt at Republican voter demoralization seems to have only worked for 72 hours.  Helluva job, fellas!

If you were one of those running about with your hair on fire screaming, "Doom! Doom!," I certainly hope you have worked off your sugar high by now.

It's OK, we won't point and laugh.  Too much, anyway.

This race is now, and has been, despite all Dem efforts for 6 months, tied amongst registered voters.  It will most likely remain tied amongst registered voters until about a week before election day.

Then we see who has the most motivated, most likely of those voters, and gets them out.  Which I believe will be Romney.

Hence the Zen calm from Boston and the "settle the fuck down you ninnies" email from Romney HQ yesterday.

BTW, Ryan's statement on the Chicago teachers' union strike was well-played, indeed.  Well played.

And I see today that they are dragging out that canard again, just in case we might think that Bush did a pretty good job.

I cannot help but think that these are evil people. Just plain evil.

Truer words were never spoken.  There's a few blogs I won't be visiting today, since they'll be infested with lefties shrieking about Bush's "lies" and how Obama is the brass-balled steely-eyed missle man for taking out Obama.  You're too nice a person, MM.  I "cannot help but think;" I know.  Democrats are evil.  Full finish, period, stop.

Well, let's get on to a little bit of Hollywood today.  On this date in 1920, the young star Olive Thomas died.  A former Ziegfeld and Midnight Frolics girl, the lovely Thomas soon made it into motion pictures and married Jack Pickford, the brother of superstar Mary.  Known as "Everybody's Sweetheart," by the time of her death, she was popular enough to be earning $3000 a week.

The Pickfords fought constantly, though by all accounts Olive and Jack loved each other deeply.  In 1920, the two decided to take a second honeymoon in Paris.  During the evening of September 5, the two made the rounds of all of the city's fashionable bistros, eating, drinking and dancing till the wee hours.  Back in their suite at the Hotel Ritz, Jack either fell asleep or stepped outside for a snort of cocaine (no one has ever known).  Olive, too, may have taken cocaine, but this has never been proven).

She picked up a bottle.  The label was in French - which Thomas was unsure in - but she believed it to be either water or sleeping pills (the story varies).  No matter what, she did drink it, only to scream in pain.  The bottle contained mercury bichloride, which had been prescribed as a topical treatment for Jack's syphilis.

Jack rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late.  She'd swallowed too much, and died in agony on September 11.  For years, the rumor spread that Olive had actually committed suicide - either through alcoholic despair, hatred of her marriage or as a result of a syphilis infection - but most researchers believe hers was a tragically mistaken death.

Sorry for the depressing story, but today's a depressing day.  Let's keep our eyes on the prize and do our best to ignore the shit-flinging monkeys of the left on this of all days.

Hope all you 'rons and 'ronettes have a wonderful day.

Los Angeles officials are considering a plan to turn the library card into a form of identification that the city's large illegal immigrant population could use to open bank accounts and access an array of city services.

The ID card would include a user's name, address and a photograph, and would be issued through the city's libraries. The city would partner with a private vendor to set up bank accounts for those who want to use the library ID as a debit card. Banks generally require official identification to open an account.

But anyone able to provide proof of L.A. residency would be eligible for the library card, Banking services would include direct deposit, international and domestic money transfers and the debiting.

Even in polls where Obama is reported as leading, Romney is generally ahead by sizeable margins among independents. Barring a collapse in base turnout, this lead among independents means Romney wins easily.

What most people do not know about That Day is that there were actually NINE transport planes that Air Traffic Control lost radio contact with, not just the four everyone knows about.   You may recall the stories going around at the time that other cities besides NYC and DC had been targeted.  Chicago, Houston, L.A., San Francisco were all mentioned.  One may assume that is where these other planes were headed.

The Feds refused to say what happened on those other five planes, other than they all landed safely.  Using Occam's Razor, one may assume that like on United 93, the passengers got wind of what was up and took steps, except they were able to do it before the Muzzie cockholsters were able to do what they did with Flight 93.

(BTW, my source for this was Aviation Week, where in an article on the FAA's command ATC, located outside of DC, and covering what took place there on 9/11, the other five planes were mentioned, albeit briefly.)

Didn't the Fire Department threaten business owners who supported Walker to "Let It Burn" if it just happened to catch fire and Public School officials use school property to actually organize boycotts of Walker supporters?

88 AT yesterday (easily found on today's archive listings) had a short piece by Jack Cashill mentioning Ohio PI Susan Daniels efforts to file suit requesting an answer as to why SCOAMF has been using a fraudulent SS number for the past 25 years.

His number is the same as a deceased Conn resident and the beginning sequence at that time identifies the holder as a Conn resident, which SCOAMF has never been.

All birther wild goose chases aside, why isn't anyone in the MFM questioning this odd circumstance WITHOUT even pointedly connecting any dots?

SCOAMF's reign has brought us some of the loudest and most persistent crickets in history.

97 I wasn't aware,  until this strike,  of the pay level of Chicago teachers,  and that it is the highest in the nation.  I also was unaware of their abysmal graduations rates and reading scores.

I wonder how many Chicago residents were aware of these numbers prior to the strike?   I bet not many.

I wonder if learning this information will make Chicago residents more or less likely to sie with the union.

I mean,  in this economy,  to see people turning down a 16% pay raise with pretty much guaranteed employment would be pretty hard to take.

California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom accused the mortgage industry, Wall Street and a major federal regulator of colluding to pressure local governments into rejecting a controversial proposal to seize mortgages and restructure them.

Newsom on Monday sent a letter to the Department of Justice asking for an investigation into statements by some groups representing Wall Street investors and the mortgage industry that mortgage lending may become costlier in parts of the country where municipalities are weighing eminent domain proposals.

Newsom, in his letter to the Justice Department, framed the issue as one with civil rights overtones.

"San Bernardino County, which is furthest along in considering the use of eminent domain, has a predominantly minority population that suffered a disproportionate amount of subprime loan origination during the bubble," he wrote. "Limiting credit there because the local government acts to acquire and refinance these homeowners' loans is geographic redlining."

Newsom appears to be the highest-ranking California politician to speak out on the plan under consideration by the Southland communities. The former mayor of San Francisco has some ties to Mortgage Resolution Partners. One of that company's consultants, Peter Ragone, served as a spokesman for Newsom when the lieutenant governor was mayor.

How dare they try and stop our seizure of their property to directly benefit a major Democratic campaign contributer!

Also, racism.

He had wrestled earlier in the show and had gone back to commentary for about a half hour, and collapsed during one of the matches. He was taken to the hospital and they said he was breathing on his own and reacting to stimuli, but the extent of the damage is still unknown. This was not an angle and not part of the show. The final hour of the broadcast was done without commentary. His announcing partner, Michael Cole, was clearly shaken up and looked like he'd been crying. God save Jerry. If you've ever been a fan, keep him in your prayers this week. TMZ (spit) has the latest; I haven't had a chance to check it today.

So reads a sign outside a small roadside craft store in Utah. The message is clearly tongue-in-cheek. But if it hung next to the corporate offices of some of our nation's big financial institutions or auto makers, there would be no irony in the message at all.

It shouldn't surprise us that the role of American business is increasingly vilified or viewed with skepticism. In a Rasmussen poll conducted this year, 68% of voters said they "believe government and big business work together against the rest of us."

The gall of these SOBs is astounding.  First they issue a report that says blacks have been "redlined" on home loans.  The report is immediately discredited due to false sampling methods.  But no matter, the CBC pushes a new CRA law through and balless Republicans go along so they will not be called "racist".  They are called racist anyway.

Now because banks were forced to make "subprime loans" to people who could not afford them they are called racist because blacks were hardest hit when the loans went under.

112 Titled "Planned Bullyhood" and due for publication Tuesday, the book depicts Planned Parenthood as an aggressive, partisan organization that was willing to weaken Komen to further a liberal political agenda. However, Handel – a conservative who resigned from Komen after its reversal – also assails Komen’s leadership as indecisive, timid and politically naive, and says the hasty decision to backtrack was “a terrible mistake.”

Handel was hired by Komen as vice president for public policy in April 2011 after losing a Republican gubernatorial primary in Georgia, and was given the task of figuring out how to disengage Komen from Planned Parenthood. The grants from Komen were for breast-cancer education and screening, but the charity was under increasing pressure from anti-abortion groups and religious conservatives to cut all ties with Planned Parenthood because, in addition to its other services, it is the nationÂ’s leading provider of abortion.

Late in 2011, Komen made a final decision to halt the grants, which totaled $680,000 that year, and its president, Liz Thompson, informed Planned ParenthoodÂ’s president, Cecile Richards, of the decision in mid-December. However, the rift did not become public knowledge until Jan. 31, when the Associated Press broke the news.

118 Today I bring you a different take on the Senate races, called the Washington Post model.  In this one I am looking at a worst case scenario, which used the WaPo map that was on the side bar and pretends it is a slice of reality, and not the fevered imagination of Democrats desperate to hold onto the Senate.  It includes fantasies like WI and NV being tossups.

Every lean GOP gets 75%
Every tossup gets 50%
Every lean Dem gets 25%

Under this model, the probability that we will win outright control of the Senate is 54.4%

The probability that we will win a 50/50 split, or 51 with a MA win is 74.2%

Consider this the extreme pessimist/Allahpundit scenario.

129 Eleven years ago I was living just south of Boston on a cliff by the ocean with a clear view of air traffic to a busy Logan Airport and both entrances to Boston Harbor, a busy port.

At any given time day or night, the naked eye could view 6 to 10 planes taking off and landing, and ships entering port or anchored and awaiting escort in.

For several days after the attack all traffic was stopped save for the occasional high altitude screaming of  interceptors and many sonic booms.

It served as a solemn and sobering reminder of where we then understood some of our previously taken for granted assets and freedoms could come under cowardly and deadly attack.

And our government's response to this atrocity was the TSA.

142 I also worked up a modified WaPo model, where I change the odds on races we have a lot of information on to reflect better polling and demographics of the state.  Basically throwing out known Dem over sample polls, but retaining the WaPo assumptions for races that we have no better information on.

Under this model the probability we will take the Senate is 88.3%.

149 And of course, the Times needs to rant today ...

The direct warnings to Mr. Bush about the possibility of a Qaeda attack began in the spring of 2001. By May 1, the Central Intelligence Agency told the White House of a report that “a group presently in the United States” was planning a terrorist operation. Weeks later, on June 22, the daily brief reported that Qaeda strikes could be “imminent,” although intelligence suggested the time frame was flexible.

... if Bush had done anything that these bozos imply, they would have claimed he was merely seeking a war.

156 WARSAW, Poland — The American POWs sent secret coded messages to Washington with news of a Soviet atrocity: In 1943 they saw rows of corpses in an advanced state of decay in the Katyn forest, on the western edge of Russia, proof that the killers could not have been the Nazis who had only recently occupied the area.

The testimony about the infamous massacre of Polish officers might have lessened the tragic fate that befell Poland under the Soviets, some scholars believe. Instead, it mysteriously vanished into the heart of American power. The long-held suspicion is that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt didn't want to anger Josef Stalin, an ally whom the Americans were counting on to defeat Germany and Japan during World War II.

Documents released Monday and seen in advance by The Associated Press lend weight to the belief that suppression within the highest levels of the U.S. government helped cover up Soviet guilt in the killing of some 22,000 Polish officers and other prisoners in the Katyn forest and other locations in 1940.

The suit — one of the last linked to the attacks 11 years ago today — could give the country its first courtroom airing of airport security blunders, and might end in a staggering jury award.

Eleven years ago today I was in     class at the University of New Hampshire    when we started hearing about a plane flying into the WTC.   We all thought it was some idiot who got tanked and flew his cesna into one of the towers.    But then we got out of class and went to the    Memorial Union Building    and saw the crowds gathered around the big screen TV in one of the common areas, and we knew it was much, much worse than that.

I don't think I slept at all that night.

We had a vigil a few days later where people could get up and say a few words.   One young man in the ROTC program got up on the podium    and said, in tears, that he was willing and proud to go fight and defend this country to keep another 9/11 from happening.

I managed to get up on the stage before they brought the vigil to a close.   "I don't have much to say that hasn't already been said, but I want to say this."  Then I put my hand over my heart and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.   It made me want to cry when the rest of the crowd -- a pretty big crowd -- did the same.

That was eleven years ago, when    showing your love of country wasn't anathema on campuses across the country.   If I tried to do that today, I'd probably be shot.

204 "...keep in mind not just the people who died on 9/11 but also our service members and allied service members who have died since then to ensure that 9/11 never happens again." Dude, I just can't believe that anyone believes this. We've lost over 6600 soldiers in battle so far in the War On Terror with tens of thousands more severely injured and disabled. We have invaded two countries to little lasting effect. The ancient communities of Christians and Jews there face truly bitter persecution there now. Iraq is a constitutional Islamic state (worse than before). And Afghanistan is still a nightmare from the 7th century with a severely inbred population of hill people and mullahs who think marrying their first cousins is a really fine idea; they are genetically incapable of any real civilization. But somehow we're safer when we continue to import these Islamic jihadi types from all over the world? We import them, we kowtow to them, we still let them overstay visas just like the 9/11 terrorists did. In the meantime, we build an insanely expensive and intrusive police state to "protect" ourselves from them. I simply do not understand how anyone can actually believe that any of this represents a rational policy. Taking a tragedy of 3,000 killed by terrorism and expanding it to 6600 dead soldiers and a few trillion in deficit spending simply makes no sense at all when you consider that the prospects of ever fundamentally altering the course of Iraq or Afghanistan for the better was so dismal. Oh, well, I suppose this isn't the perfect day for such observations. God bless the victims, our soldiers and their families. They aren't at fault in this. Our so-called leaders and national security establishment are to blame.

My old firm did pro bono work for the 9-11 victim's fund so when I think about today I think about holding in my hands the memory card that had the video of what turned out to be a couple's last dance that someone just happened to take when they went back to visit the husband's family in France right before 9-11.  I think about the wife trying desperately not to weep when she told me about how anxious he was that they not miss a connecting flight in Heathrow because he had to be back because his company was rolling out on new product on 9-11 and he didn't want to let down his project team so he had to get back in time to help with the final roll out and about how happy he was when they made the flight and about how he kissed her goodbye that morning and said he'd try to meet her for dinner but he'd probably be too busy.  It was the last thing he ever said to her.

I think about the four different first responders who, upon hearing what happened, loaded up the fire truck with every bit of equipment they could and who went to search for survivors and then for bodies.  I think about how all four of them developed horrible, horrible respiratory diseases as a result of chemical exposure at the site.  I think about how it took another two years for the terrorists to kill them and about the slow agony of those deaths.

I think about how there is not a hot enough part of Hell for those who caused this slaughter.

Someone came into our offices here last week and, more or less out of nowhere, began talking about 9-11 and it because very readily apparent he was a Truther.  I had to basically lock myself in another room to keep from going out and screaming at him.  Intellectually, I understand the need to claim some kind of conspiracy because that is easier than facing that there is pure evil in the world.  Emotionally?  I wanted to beat him until my hands shattered.

That is what makes us exceptional.

We fight, but we never forget our humanity.

Our neighbor up the street got a call from her husband (from the top of the first tower),  and drove up to her kids' school so that they could say goodbye to their father.

Local businesses kept her and her kids fed, her lawn trimmed, house taken care of, etc. for months.

216 On 9-11, I had just started a new job the week before. It was a couple of blocks from the Sears Tower. Just as I entered the office, I was called over to the TV and saw the plane hit the second tower. It was a bit surreal at first. Then the rumors about planes in the sky that no one could track started to surface. We were sent home. I remember it was a mad rush to get out of the loop. Once I got home I put on the TV and saw the towers fall. It was the most shockingly horrific thing I have ever seen. My prayers and sympathy for everyone who went through that.

*RAGE*

Yeah,    every time I hear that BS I get SO SO SO SO ANGRY.    First off, for someone who claims to be a Catholic      he clearly doesn't understand that     "fallen angel" isn't some kind of heroic,     poignant term.          There's a reason the "fallen angel" motif is so popular among goth    and death metal fans.      He's     equating    those men and women    with frigging LUCIFER.

And secondly, you know the reason he's doing it is because he thinks calling someone an angel is appropriate; and it can be in certain situations.   But when    he uses the term in such a cloying, infantalizing way -- as if       he were talking about his grandkids, "Those little angels!"     and just replacing   "little"    with   "fallen"   ---    it's    insulting.   I want to punch him    right in the mouth every time.

Dear Joe Biden,

Please pick up the white courtesy phone and GET A FUCKING CLUE.

Sincerely,

MWR

225 See "Gateway Pundit" blog re: pizza guy's visit to DC. He is a good guy, a philanthropist. He won the Jefferson Award (in 2008, I think) for volunteerism.

Gateway Pundit (9/9/12) has a story of pizza guy (Scott Van Duzer) riding a bike through DC last summer, to help raise blood donations. The Surgeon General met him (July 11, 2012). The deputy Surgeon General was to ride bikes with him for 50 miles. Whether he actually met the President is unknown, but he was undoubtedly vetted by the Secret Service, he was known to this White House, and this was no random pizza stop.

Again, note the large space around the two for the video. No Secret Service men in sight for the bear-hug.

If you tried that today, you'd be brought up in front of the university's Tolerance Tribunal under charges of saying offensive, and hateful words. Your accusers, of course will be allowed to remain anonymous, so as to avoid being further traumatized by your hatred.

245 My daughter was in the Pentagon on 9/11/2001 and walked through the impact sector 10 minutes before the plane hit.  I left work and went holme to the wife.  We could not get in touch with my daughter until hours afterwards as the cell and land lines were jammed here.  She did get a message to my son in Florida who was able to get back to us on the land line, so after a lot of waiting and praying, we knew she was safe.  She knew several people that did not make it out of the Pentagon, and several that had miraculous escapes.

I can only imagine the horror faced by those in the Towers and the scars left on their families by the scum that could even imagine, much less act upon, such a barbaric scheme to kill and maim the innocent.

In my better moments, I still pray for all those in the Towers, their families, and the first responders.

I never stop hoping that Hell has a special section reserved for the perpetrators.

257 Eleven years ago I kissed my husband goodbye as he went to work on Wall Street. He had to take his series 7 test at the World Trade Center complex and then was supposed to catch a flight to Boston. I dropped my kids at Jewish day school, and heard the news about the first plane as I was driving back home. I knew immediately it was no accident and turned around and got my kids. I knew it was Islamic terrorists and reasoned a Jewish institution was no safe place for my kids that day. I went home and tried to call my husband, but the cell towers for the NYC area were on top of the World Trade Center Towers, so there was no cell service. It took me over four hours to find out if he was alive. During that time I tried to keep the kids occupied and reassure family and friends. All plane traffic stopped, except for fighter jets overhead and the sound of helicopters now and then. They thought they were going to take the injured from Liberty State Park and helicopter them to hospitals. But there were so few recovered. Everything stopped. No planes. Little traffic. Trains, bridges and tunnels stopped. Huge column of smoke from Manhattan. It smoked for weeks. Local police and fire and construction crews streaming into Manhattan. Columns of trucks on the West Side Highway taking debris to Fresh Kills Landfill, where they looked for human remains. Armed National Guardsmen on the street corners in lower Manhattan. It broke my heart. It breaks my heart. I will never forget the brave men and women of that day, and in all the succeeding day and years. God bless them all. I have taught my children about it, and they too will never forget.

I assume they're equating teacher layoffs and "pay cuts" (also known as, "not getting as big of a raise as we want")    with private sector layoffs and "pay cuts" (also known as "pay cuts").      Which just proves teh kids are better off NOT in the classroom with these world class buffoons.

>>“We stand with the children and we stand with the families and the parents of Chicago because education reform, that’s a bipartisan issue. This does not have to divide the two parties. And so, we were going to ask, where does President Obama stand? The Pentagon is buying Chevrolet Volts to help “green up” the military—while propping up sales of the bailed-out automaker’s most politicized car.

The Department of Defense began purchasing the struggling luxury electric car, which retails at $40,000, this summer as part of its goal to purchase 1,500 such green vehicles. The Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif. purchased its first two Volts in July, and 18 more vehicles will come shortly to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where Air Force One is based, according to military magazine Stars and Stripes.

Up next Volt tanks and airplanes.

I may have gotten over this initial emotion and gone to the next but for the fact that these motherfuckers are still out there and running their mouths and that our own country apparently dismissed this event by electing an incompentent enemy of America with the middle name, Hussein whose father and step father's were Muslim and was initially raised in a muslim country who subsequently made his circle of friends and mentors to be muslim.

And yes, I remember how the liberals pretty much immediately said, "Well, this is America's fault."  They were frustrated that they had to wait a day or so before really denouncing the US with their true feelings.

I am thankful for the heroes of Flight 93. Thanks to them we will never see a highjacked plane in this country again. I know this because I have flown since planes were allowed back up into airspace. I had to fly often, and I had no choice. I flew on nearly empty jets for a couple of flights. I had no fear, honestly. Anytime there has been even a hint of weirdness by a passenger since 9/11, and there have been a couple of flights, you can meet the eyes of the businessman across the aisle and see resolve and the unspoken gaze of "are you paying attention?." Keeping that in mind, I am a woman who has a secret weapon: a very heavy travel purse. And I am ready and willing to get into the fight to take someone down who puts us in danger. I will never forget.

311 Mama AJ, my son is a high school teacher. He said, last year, that many high school kids were sheltered from 9/11/01 as they were young. Public schools, being politically correct, did not speak of the atrocities committed by Radical Islam.

Like all things, it is up to parents to educate their children on important issues. The kids my son taught were amazed at how much they did not know.

It should be required for American children to watch the documentary made by the two French cameramen who were with the NYC firefighters (the Battalion Chief on the video, and his fire fighters brother who died, are distant cousins of my husband's).

So I doubt many, not just the Chicago children, know little about the events of eleven years ago. This, sadly, is public school today.

321 The mournful tones of "Taps" fluttered over the South Lawn of the White House as President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama led America in a silent tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks. The crisp, clear day recalled the pleasant fall weather the morning of that national tragedy.

The Obamas walked somberly out of the residence of the White House and, flanked by hundreds of staff, bowed their heads at 8:46 a.m. — 11 years after American Airlines Flight 11 slammed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. The first couple placed their hands over their hearts as "Taps" played and a military color guard dipped its flags. Afterwards, they turned, clasped hands, and walked back into the presidential mansion.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A strong rotten egg smell had Southern Californians plugging their noses and crying foul Monday as air quality investigators scrambled to determine if the sulfurous scent was coming from the Salton Sea.

Investigators from the South Coast Air Quality Management District spread investigators all over the region in an attempt to track the stench after being flooded with 200 complaints since midnight from across much of the district's 10,000 square miles, said Barry Wallerstein, executive for the agency...

Good to know. My kids were in high school during 9/11, so there was always a tribute and they knew what was going on.

While I understand it was important, and I would have done the same, to shelter small children during the time it happened, when they were old enough to understand they should have had this as part of their history.

American children are receiving a horrible education, depending on individual teachers and where you live. I was lucky that the public schools here actually taught American and world history and the subject of war was not skipped over. However, quiz many high school kids on what is the significance of Pearl Harbor and they will have no idea.

On 9/11 I always think of a story our group CO told us when he visited us on deployment in Uzbekistan in 2003.  He said he was running in a park once on a trail, and as he ran by a playground he could see a rattlesnake slithering through the grass nearby.  He ran over to pick up a large rock to crush the snake with, and was trying to find the snake when someone asked him what the hell he was doing.  He told the guy "There's a snake that needs killin'.", and said that the same thing was true for what we were doing on out deployment - helping kill the snakes that threaten us all.

All these years later, there are still a shitload of snakes that need killin'.

Posted by: belial at September 11, 2012 10:19 AM (7Jipo) To me that's a soft number, it's "Somewhat approve" total. Lots of room for someone who doesn't want to go negative on Obama can answer "Somewhat approve" From Rasmussen: When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 49% and Romney 47%. Leaners are those who initially indicate no preference for either candidate but express a preference for one of them in a follow-up question. I'm still saying 52-48 R/R for the win

As big a myth as those people who are able to fill out reams of paperwork to receive medicare, medicaid, SS, SSDI, food stamps and unemployment...can make it down to the appropriate offices for interviews, exams, and checkups...but suddenly become complete invalids when it comes to getting a basic ID.

More bad news for the "Party of Death" ...

TodayÂ’s Democrats are malleable on those moral issues where the Church is firm and they are rigid where the Church is open to debate.

It’s not news that Democrats began to lose their advantage in the Catholic vote about the same time they began embracing abortion. Despite high-profile Catholic defenders of the abortion license (Kathleen Sebelius, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden), millions of Catholics, especially observant Catholics, have left the Democratic party because of its willingness to compromise with what Pope John Paul II called the “culture of death.” One result of this is that the Catholic vote — once overwhelmingly Democratic — is now split fairly evenly between the two parties.

Our future VP Paul Ryan, last night, stepped up for the children and families impacted by the strike vs the union thugs and teachers already making $70k and refusing a 16% raise in salary.

Ryan said he stands with the children and families and Rahm Emmanuel on this issue, whereas Barry won't comment. I am sure Barry is in a snit over this unprecedented comment by our VP Ryan. It puts him between a rock and a hard place, and he does not do well with pressure or interruptions of his tee time. He may be a little wee-wee'd up (or weeded up) over this issue. Bravo, Paul Ryan!

It will be interesting to hear what Rush has to say today, as he thought Barry would be sweeping in like a super-hero to the union to negotiate peace.

362 11 years later, and whenever I am in the city I still instinctively look for the World Trade Center to orient myself. And every time I see the hole in the sky I remember. I went into Manhattan for the first time after the attacks about four months later. The route we usually took has a big curve in the road and when you go around the curve you can see lower Manhattan and seeing the Towers was always the signal that we were nearly there. We went around the curve and there was this hole. This huge, gaping hole. I started sobbing so hard I thought I was going to be sick. Thank God I wasn't driving.

She never found out who it was.  The 2 other cousins had worked in the towers and both lost friends.

Yes, because we should have just surrendered to the terrorists, sat in a fetal position and continued to take it up the squeakhole. That would have corrected it.

This is the type of idiotic magical unicorn thinking which led to September 11th in the first place. That we can simply leave people capable of perpetrating these acts alone and they will go away. They don't. They become more defiant until they show up on you porch and piss on your azaleas.

The message is clear. If you attack us, we will kill you. We will kill your friends, their friends and your neighbors. We will take over your country. And we will sacrifice all we have and all we are to ensure it doesn't happen again. Because if it does, we will be back to repeat the cycle.

=============
Along with the photos of the tower jumpers. Like boards, they fell. Stiff and resigned, not flailing about.

And I also remember the phony "outpouring of sympathy" from the world. Which I later learned wasn't at our loss but was more a cover so they could gloat that the mighty America was brought low in private (at least among their ruling class). For example, look at France when we said, "it's time to remedy this" they said "no." None of them, no one in the world wanted us to fight back. That fact became very clear to me.

Remember the left's favorite refrain during the Bush years, "squandered the sympathy of the world after 9/11?" Oh, that makes me burn with rage.

385 I do remember clearly that the anger that I felt immediately after the planes attacked and the towers fell, was very similar to a night when I had just gotten home from the Army in Germany.  I came out of a bar late at night, 30 miles from home and found that my car had been stolen.

The furious feeling that welled up with no real enemy to focus it on was unsettling.  I was unsure that my homeland, the serene place that had always felt comfortable in, in the then suddenly distant past still existed, or had been my own invention.

Furious anger and confusion can be at once instructive and destructive.
I have not forgotten that lesson or feeling.

402 From PJ Tattler:

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta made a striking admission today. In an interview with CBSÂ’ Norah OÂ’Donnell, Panetta threatened legal action against the Navy SEAL who wrote, under a pen name, about the raid that killed terrorist Osama bin Laden. Panetta said that any sanctions against the SEAL, who wrote No Easy Day under the name Mark Wood, would be intended to send a message that others entrusted with national security secrets that they should not divulge what they know.

O’Donnell then asked Panetta a direct question: What’s the difference between what the SEAL did and the leaks that have come from the administration to journalists and filmmakers? Panetta spun: “There’s a fundamental difference. The people that presented some of the details of the operations were authorized to do that by the president of the United States, who has that authority to do that, and inform the American people as to what happened,” Panetta said. “In this case, that was not the case. And that’s the difference.”

Among the information that Panetta now says the president authorized to be release, were the identities of the leaders of the SEAL team that killed bin Laden. Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence Michael Vickers released that classified information to Hollywood producers who were working on the film Zero Dark Thirty, which was at that time intended for release just weeks before the 2012 presidential election. Vickers remains in his job. No one in the administration has come under any penalty for the numerous and damaging leaks of other operations, including President Obama’s “kill list,” US assistance to the rebellion in Syria, and the ongoing cyber war against Iran.

Now we know why: Despite the administrationÂ’s denials, President Obama himself authorized those leaks.

So Issa's had to delay the F&F hearing    that was scheduled today until   next     Wednesday    because the DOJ hasn't finished its    report    yet.

Link to The Hill: http://tiny.cc/kk7gkw

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has been forced to postpone a hearing on an inspector generalÂ’s investigation of "Operation Fast and Furious" until next week.

The Justice DepartmentÂ’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, told Issa in a recent letter that after 17 months of investigating the botched gun-tracking operation, the lengthy report would not be ready for public release until later this week, at the earliest.

434 President Obama may be enjoying a slight, if likely temporary, bounce in the polls this week. But one of the surveys showing him with a lead in a tight race over Mitt Romney also provides a breakdown of the data that confirms predictions that he is losing up to a quarter of the Jewish votes he got in 2008. The Investors Business Daily/Christian Science Monitor/TIPP Poll gives a breakdown of religion along with other demographic groups and shows Obama leading among Jews by a margin of 59 to 35 percent with six percent undecided. While that is still a majority it is a dramatic decline from the 78 percent of the Jewish vote he got four years ago.

lot of people hate obama, surely he knows that and he hugged obama all the same.

Here's the thing:   when a business owner hosts a politician with   whom I disagree, I don't care.  I really don't.  When that business proudly promotes its support of said candidate I get a little itchy but hey, it's a free country.   I'll still stop there when I    need to,   though I'd probably stop going there    unless I'm in a hurry     if there's somewhere else nearby that sells what I'm looking for.

But when someone who claims to be a small business owner actually gives the traitorous     Preezy a bear hug -- literally embraces him, and figuratively his policies -- then I say fuck him.   Philanthropist or not;    charitable or not.     If he's too stupid to realize that Obama would love to see him and all other businesses ground to dust under the bootheel of government taxation,     regulation      and unionization, then he doesn't deserve my business.       I     won't   subsidize stupid.

Everytime a liberal tries to make Obama into a athletic, tough guy it just confirms that they are either in denial or delusional. Probably both.  They never acknowledge that he was a bench warmer and an uncoordianted goof who can't break 90 on a bowling lane and throws like a girl.  The juxtaposed picture of Obama in his mom jeans and girl helmet riding a bike and Bush in his flightsuit must make their heads explode.

450 To all who think Romney and Ryan aren't campaigning:  national media is now in the "maybe if we disappear them we can turn the tide" stage.  They did the same thing to Bush in 2000 after the conventions,  starting a "Bush is a lazy campaigner" amongst some conservatives.

This is what they are doing now.  However,  they cannot stop local coverage,  as a visit by a national ticket candidate is a big deal to locals.  So the only point of this invisible Romney/Ryan thing is to depress GOP turnout,  as we can see by the trollish appearance upthread.

508 @433 415 people are just stated they won't eat at his pizza place on Yelp...there's no organized boycott that i know of. lot of people hate obama, surely he knows that and he hugged obama all the same. -- He's a Liberal turd--thinks everyone is obligated to be his customer regardless of his actions and then whines about the 'unfairness' of people making their own decisions. Posted by: JeremiadBullfrog at September 11, 2012 10:56 AM (Y5I9o) This. I know several small business owners who make it a point never to discuss politics. Why? Because you just piss-off half of your customer base. You're business is selling yummy(?) pizza, jackass! Not flakking for King Toothpick. It's not an organized boycott- it's people individually using their dollars as political speech. You chose politics over your business. And worse, used your business- i.e.. direct aligned your business with someone at least half of your customer base opposes. Good luck with that.

This proves:
1. Biden doesn't understand the term,  or if he does,  he simply reads what he is handed.
2. White Hous speechwriters are ignoramuses who don't know the meaning,  either,  OR are deliberately twisting the knife in wounds.  Take your choice.

Posted by: Coward Robert Ford at September 11, 2012 07:58 AM (/w5Wy)

613 the way i see it is Romney will win OH, VA, FL, NC. So he only has to win either NH, IA, CO, or NV to win it all. what do you guys think about my forecast.

615 i think more states are going to have a wild swing from pro-Obama in 2008 to anti-Obama in 2012, like we already know Indiana has experienced. It's not reflecting in the polls for whatever reason but Indiana can't be only one.

Posted by: Coward Robert Ford at September 11, 2012 08:02 AM (/w5Wy)

616 i think Indiana went bigger for Obama than OH, FL, VA, and NC. now it's forecasted as solid red, yet the others are swing? That doesn't make sense.

Posted by: Coward Robert Ford at September 11, 2012 08:03 AM (/w5Wy)

617 well i looked at 270towin.com and appears indiana was only 50-49 in obama's favor in 2008. so i guess i was misinformed. i was thinking it was a 10 point plus win there for obama.

Posted by: Coward Robert Ford at September 11, 2012 08:08 AM (/w5Wy)

618 it's hard to see romney winning if it's truly close in Virginia. bush never struggled to win there.

620 134 I can remember 11 years ago when my 13 year old son said we needed to do something about this, that he needed to do something about this. He ended up enlisting after high school.I don't think hedecided to enlist that day, but I could tell that he started changing his path back then. He eventually joined the Navy, became a Hospital Corpsman and ended up going to Afghanistan with the Marines. Posted by: digitalbrownshirt at September 11, 2012 08:30 AM (eHwT1) On behalf of everyone in the Horde, please pass our gratitude along to your son. The same goes for everyone here at the HQ who has served, is serving, or who has a friend or loved one who has served in the military. Truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Posted by: Coward Robert Ford at September 11, 2012 08:25 AM (/w5Wy)

627 i read somewhere that Obama is running more ads in a MN market adjacent to part of Iowa than he is ANYWHERE in North Carolina, so I'm confident he's given up on NC.

628 Just listened to a mother's (final) cell phone call to her family from the North Tower on 9/11 on Legal Insurrection.......I shouldn't have played it.

I've been in combat  (Vietnam), but NOTHING in my experiences on the battle field come close to the all-consuming, WHITE HOT RAGE this wife's/mother's/daughter's/sister's/ friend's last message to her loved ones re-generated.......

When my family emigrated from England we lived in NYC for close to 10 years.. I've since moved to Chicago, but every time I returned to NYC, I was still startled by the 'gap' in Lower Manhattan's skyline......and the WHITE HOT RAGE would be re-ignited

About that young woman's video posted at Legal Insurrection?  Where I previously said "I shouldn't have played it?"  Truth to tell, I couldn't live with myself if I hadn't.............It's called verifying one's priorities in life.

631 344 339 Something else I'll NEVER forget on 9/11 are the TV images of Palestinians dancing in the streets, handing out candy, and making that God-awful celebratory ululating sound. To this day that sound represents evil to me. I hate it. Posted by: Mrs. Dang at September 11, 2012 10:15 AM (R18D0) Yep, I remembered that - it was flushed down the memory drain by the MSM. 632 The cool kids' move at my high school was to duck out after first period for coffee from the cart on the corner, so of course I was a regular by day five of my freshman year even though I didn't like the taste of coffee. Tommy, the man who owned the cart, apparently felt a little guilty about hooking 14 year olds on caffeine, and always made a feeble effort to sell us orange juice instead, but he had kids to feed. He'd never pour a cup without bemoaning the fact that You kids grow up too fast, so those were the last words I ever heard from him.

I saw his abandoned cart covered in ashes when the TV cameras passed my school later that week. I never saw a Tom or Thomas or a coffee vendor in the lists of the dead, so I assume he evacuated safely. Our school spent the rest of the year in exile, and when we finally returned there was no cart and no Tommy, but Mr Vang or Mr Tran (I can't remember which) was right across the street with more or less the same crappy coffee. He never seemed bothered by how fast us kids grew up, or at least he never blamed himself.

For me, Tommy and the towers both stood for exactly seven days.

I often wonder how he's doing.

634 My wife and I were at ground zero a few days after the attack. We left AZ as soon as the air traffic was resumed. We were with a major relief organization. Nothing, no professional video, still shot or news anchor description could adequately explain the horror and destruction we witnesses standing outside NYFD Firehouse 10. We pray for the victims and families. Then we came back to normality to our home state of AZ. It didn't last long the 9-11 memorial built in AZ when Big Sis was governor is an abomination. The academics and intellectuals that formed the committee came up with typical progressive BS anti US phrases. Goggle.AZ 9-11 it will discuss you.
