A few of these polls showed margins for the Democrat which obviously could not be correct (sorry, champs, but Tommy Thompson is not losing by 9 points and George Allen is not losing by 8 points). Flood the zone with waves of polls showing Democrats winning, depress conservatives into not bothering to show up to vote, eke out a few close contests, maybe snag a contest in a recount, then barely hold onto the chamber, by the margin of conservatives whom you duped into staying home. The irony is that it might actually work out that way. None of the polls get accurate until just before the election.  The ones run by news organizations never get accurate.

I never watched the first 3...I read (repeatedly) and loved those books when I was growing up, and the first 10-15 minutes of the first movie was enough for me. I have not even a smidgeon of curiosity about how he'll mess up this one.

One of her early movies was 1957's Baby Face Nelson*, where she starred opposite Mickey Rooney.  The two of them became very good friends and spent a lot of time simply hanging out together.  During one shot, the director and lighting designer were having trouble with the setup, so Rooney and Jones sat off to the side, talking.  Eventually, Mickey began telling Carolyn about his string of ex-wives.  He didn't get down and dirty about it, though, just pondered over the fact that he'd always married women taller than he was, showering them with attention and gifts.

 

After a while, he stared off into the distance.  "Yeah," he finally sighed.  "I put shoes on them and then they walk away from me."

have to read the Rasmussen poll before getting concerned.  If he lost Republican support, but maintained his lead with Independents, it probably just is an anomoly, that will correct in a few days.

Also, on the swing state polling, I do not believe the individual state polls that Rasmussen puts out (such as New Hampshire and Colorado in the last few days) are included in his overall swing state poll.  So don't look at the results from the individual state polls to figure out what is going on in other states (e.g., he must be losing big in FL, VA and/or Ohio if he is up in CO and NH).

382 Bill Kristol needs to be called out on his destructive behavior.  Here is what I know about him from my anger at his actions during the Bush 2000 campaign and the early years of the Bush administration.

1. He got hired as a domestic policy advisor for Dan Quayle.   Quayles Chief of Staff got fired under mysterious circumstances and Kristol took over.   He was the one who told Quayle to mak the Murphy Brown speech (which he admitted to Brit Hume on special report with laughter.)  He also encouraged Quayle (in the run-up to the 1992 re-election campaign for Bush 41 to strike out on his own,  which cause more disarray in the campaign.

Kristol had a reputation of leaking to the press,  so  James Baker wouldn't allow him to attend any campaign strategy meetings.   In his book "Standing Firm," Quayle says this was because Baker was intimidated by Kristol's intellect. (This shows you that Quayle is a moron and that Kristol helped him write his stupid book,  which I still have for reference.)

2. After Clinton got elected,  Kristol got funding to start the Weekly Standard from Rupert Murdoch.  He spent the next few years skulking around Washington and building up readership.

3.  He then decided that when Clinton was out,  the best person to run against Gore would be Colin Powell.  He spent quite some time writing about how Powell would be the perfect candidate and trying to convince him to run.  When Powell wouldn't do it (due to his wife's objections) he migrated to McCain.

4. When Bush 43 got the nomination,  Kristol spent almost all of the campaign sniping at Bush,  calling him lazy,  poorly informed,  etc.  He continued this right through the Florida recount.   When Bush finally was declared the winner,  Kristol shut up for about 3 months,  I suppose thinking he would be able to weasel his way into an administration position.

5.  Bush didn't hire him,  no doubt taking advice from Jim Baker.  So Kristol THEN wrote a scathing critique of the Bush administration's negotiation of the pilot and plane release (China plane incident) called "Our Profound National Humiliation."

4. Kristol then resurfaced as the ONLY person who knew about the Jeffords jump prior to Jeffords announcing.  Months later,  I discovered that Jeffords had been told by "a Republican insider" that the dairy subsidy (which he was so proud of) was going to be ended.  This was a lie and the Bush people didn't understand how Jeffords thought that.   I believe Bill Kristol told Jeffords that and put him in touch with Tom Daschle.   Kristol,  remember,  had ADANCE KNOWLEDGE of this party switching and did not notify anyone in the Bush administration.

So,  I never believe anything Kristol says.  He's a troublemaker and a weasel.

I post (a lot) that I have new posts up at my place.  BackwardsBoy, EoJ, and others have active blogs.  I don't know about them, but a lot of time it seems that I'm shouting into the wind.

We're posting to help our side, and we can neither get constructive criticism (I actually do, sometimes, now, but even then its rare) nor can we get a boost from the "big" bloggers.  It's not like ace and the cob-loggers are unaware of us, but we can only help if we're heard.  We're not "professional bloggers" but we do blog a lot.  Well, BB and I do, anyway.

It seems to me (and others may disagree- just giving my impression) that the tendency of the "good ole' boys' club" to form is starting to cause problems in the Conservative Blogosphere.  The big leagues (of which, despite our jokes, Ace is a member) tend to stick with each other, and it's hard to get noticed in that.  Really, how hard is it to say, "Hey, I recognize that guy, let me RT that?"

Now, I'm not really complaining about ace, but about a natural human tendency.  We're comfortable with the people we're comfortable with, whether that's in RL or online.  Ace has limited time, so he' much more likely to spend it on First (or second) rate blogs than looking through all of his commenters to see who has a blog, and making sure to drop by there every day.

That said, I believe a concerted effort needs to be made to get the word out about smaller blogs.  One of the reasons for the 2010 wave was the blogosphere.  More specifically, it was a unity of message and purpose.

Now, that's starting to fracture.  Not because we're not still allies, but because people are falling back into the niches.  If we want to combat that, the way is to make sure even the small blogs are known.  Then we can get the same volume we got in 2010 against ObamaCare, but on just about every topic- the economy, foreign policy, TFG's general SCOAMFiness, and so forth.

Okay, rant off.  I'll step off my soap-box now.

The point isn't my blog specifically.  The point isn't even that the Morons have blogs.  The point is that any organization (which, for better or worse, the 'top-tier' blogs have become) is intrinsically protective of its membership- which also makes it hard (without a concerted effort) for new members to join, to greater or lesser extent.

If there's a problem with "enthusiasm" sitting and complaining that the blogs don't seem as excited as 2010 isn't the way to fix it.  The way to fix it is to make a concentrated effort to get additional conservative voices heard.

I'm not expecting a link every day (though I'd like it, I'm not going to lie).  I'm not even expecting a link most days.  But some concentrated and considered effort to get lesser bloggers heard seems an appropriate course, if we want to continue beating the media.

The Hobbit movie is being released as a 3-part film trilogy for these reasons.

1. Peter Jackson shot a 7-hour Hobbit movie, and is releasing it in 3 parts, much as he did with the epic-length LOTR film.  
2. The segmenting allows for giants, Beorn, and more of the little details that were casually dropped out of the Rankin-bass film for purposes of length. Not to mention some more of PJ's excellent action scenes.
3. As he repeatedly stated during the pre-production and production phase, Jackson intended to also tell the parallel tale of the White Council moving against Dol Guldur. (That is the reason why Gandalf leaves the Dwarves after meeting with Beorn; he has a battle to join.) The movie acknowledges that Bilbo's tale takes place in the same Middle-Earth continuity as LOTR, and is part of the chess game the Wise played against Sauron before he decided to return to Mordor.
4. LIkewise, he seems to tell the tale of the Lonely Mountain in full, which takes some time, and gives better motivation of why Thorin and company are so keen to take down Smaug, beyond the obvious event recovering all their wealth. The tale of the misfortunes of father and grandfather also allows the audience to sympathize with Thorin some more. Very often in the novel he comes across as a greedy, stubborn jerk instead of a prince on a desperate venture to save his people from decline.
