1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Wednesday, September 26, 2012.  On this day in 1789 Thomas Jefferson was appointed the nationÂ’s first Secretary of State.  Oh how far we have dropped since then.

55 Via Instapundit http://tinyurl.com/9gd6gx9 Until now, there really has been no context within which to understand the Sutton story or to buttress it as a reliable account other than the reputation of Sutton himself as one of the top leaders of the black community in Manhattan — himself a noted attorney, businessman and politician. But the new discovery of the 1979 column that established Khalid al-Mansour’s interest in creating a fund to give “financial help to disadvantaged students” does provide a clue that he might indeed — along with his patron, Arab Prince Alwaleed bin Talal — have taken an interest in the “genius” Barack Obama. Glenn Reynolds refers to the article as a bombshell, and concludes: So let’s get this straight: Our President may have deep ties (personal and financial) not only to black nationalist extremists, but also wealthy Arabs who publicly floated the idea of financing, among other projects, the top-flight education of young black Americans who might (hopefully) one day share their hatred of America?

75 Polls, schmolls. Here's my own shock poll (worth about as much or more than that crap Q poll): Romney carries IL. Yep, it's an under-the-radar deal. None of the mainstream polls are paying attention there, as the state is assumed to be in the bag for the Dems. But the enthusiasm gap, even in Chicago, is palpable. Cook County will still pull for the SCOAMF, but not in numbers sufficient to counter the will of the rest of the state. Count on it! Their only hope is mass cheating. But I'm hopeful there will be ample GOP judges to keep it contained (and I'll be one of 'em). You heard it here first!

Good morning, morons.  Since we've started the day with those crap Q polls and are feeling a little down, here's a story tailored to the AoS lifestyle:

One day Sam Goldwyn and Chico Marx were playing a game of backgammon.  Chico was a brilliant player, but Goldwyn's little boy, Sam Junior, kept running into the room and knocking the board over.  A frustrated Chico told Goldwyn to get rid of the boy, but little Sammy kept coming back.

Finally, a fed up Chico grabbed the kid by the arm and marched him out of the room.  Five minutes passed, then Chico came back by himself.  "Let's play," he said.  Goldwyn was leery, but agreed.  To his surprise, the two of them were able to play an entire game without any interruptions.

Goldwyn was impressed with Chico's ability to control children.  "How'd you do it?" he asked.

Chico grinned.  "I taught him to masturbate."

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

80 Re: 15 cent flour.  I think it is a neat experiment to see what that cost in silver.  If you go to coinflation.com and use their calculator you learn that the Shorpy photo shows 5 lbs for 15 cents, or to get it to a silver exchange, go 10 lbs for 30 cents, which would be 3 silver mercury dimes.
Coinflation.com says that the melt value of 3 mercury dimes is $7.35.  The cheapest 10 lb flour I can find on Google is $7.07.  I really don't know what it costs in the store.  I find time and again that whether its guns, Bean boots, tennis shoes, or now flour, prices then and now aren't much different if you buy with silver.
This illustrates why you might want to keep silver as a hedge against inflation, or with QE3, hyperinflation.

Most of them seem to be losing money hand over fist, and not just because of bias (buggy whip makers didn't go out of business because of their stance on horsewhipping, you know?).  Kids are enrolling in J-school without ever reading a newspaper (which is a whole other topic to rant on) and 95% of CNN's viewers are trapped in waiting rooms.

re: Mike Rowe

It probably didn't help too much that Obama gave the Boy Scouts the brush-off at the National Jamboree a couple of years ago. It was the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America, but rather than speaking in person (which is what presidents normally do) he sent a video message that was roundly jeered by the boys in attendance. Fortunately for him they had a much better stand-in, none other than Mike Rowe who incidentally was an Eagle Scout. Rowe's speech was apparently a massive hit with the boys.

91 The cheapest 10 lb flour I can find on Google is $7.07. I really don't know what it costs in the store.

You should have looked for 5-lb flour, since that was what was in the photo, right?   5-lbs of name-brand flour was $3.29 at my local Target last week; store brand was somewhat less.

I don't remember how many cups are in a pound.  Hrm.

I can save $5000 to use for a catastrophe but can't come up with $100,000

93 53 -

The only reason to not call it "treason" is that there weren't any rules at the time that expressly forbade a Sec of State from engaging in foreign policy that was DIRECTLY contrary to the stated policy of the President.

Inviting foreigners to come to America a preach the gospel of the french revolution, even after it had turned into a savage, bloodbath, blindly ignoring the fact that france was no longer our ally, in addition to being arguably treasonous, was incredibly stupid and short-sighted.  Washington knew better, but Jefferson and a number of others decided to  engage the revolutionaries anyway, most likely because they were jealous of the influence Hamilton had on Washington.

It would be like today, if you had a President who was no longer willing to back the Libyan revolution, and the Sec of State was still sending them money and  weapons.  Today we would call it treason, but Jefferson got a pass, primarily because he was Jefferson.

96 Well, what's sort of funny about those CBS/NYT/Q polls for OH and FL -- in the vein of a tragic farce -- is that you don't even need to pick apart the internals to know they're complete bunk. The headline numbers themselves patently indicate they're bunk. No further analysis is necessary. Obama winning OH by 10 points?? Hmm, that would be more than 2x the margin by which he won that state last time around. Hell, for more than two decades no candidate has won OH by close to 10 points. The last person to pull that off was H.W. Bush in '88, during the midst of what turned out to be a 40-state wipeout. Florida +9 for Obama? Really? Wow. That truly would be amazing. That's more than 3x the margin by which he won that state last time around. Plus no candidate since H.W. Bush in '88 has won FL by anything close to 9 points. Go figure. But here's the thing: To a material extent the conservative chattering classes are so naive, so cocooned, so out to lunch, they'll actually fall for this nonsense. Seriously, they will. They'll allow the liberal media to dupe them into not voting. For some of them, in fact, it'll be the third time in under 15 years. In '00 they were duped into not voting by the bogus early call of Florida on election night by CBS News. In '04 they were duped into not voting by the bogus early "exit polling" out of PA. This year they'll be duped into not voting by these patently-absurd pre-election media polls. I'm not sure they'd be able even to grasp the irony, however.

118 (I should be off praying somewhere, but I just had to look at this poll ...)

If you go to the Quinnipiac site and look at their state demographics, you'll find they weighted these polls:

OHIO - 26% R, 35% D, 35% I
FLORIDA - 27% R, 36% D, 33% I
PENNSYLVANIA - 28% R, 39% D, 27% I

IIRC, in 2010 all three of these states voted in Republican governors, senators and probably state legislatures, too, (but I'm not going to look it up.) Hmmm ... wonder how THAT could have happened with such large Democrat majorities? It's a mystery!

Obviously this is not the door of the Optimist club. I must have gotten the numbers mixed up. I was here for a bit of optimism.

Everyone is correct in the assessment that we're screwed by the media and by stupid people. The electorate is at the tipping point, and too many of those who actually do produce are dumb enough to vote democrat, while the 49% are smart enough to know that that's THE ONLY way to vote, in order to be kept in the manner they are accustomed.

That leaves just us conservatives, and we cannot give up. We have to have faith that we CAN convince our moronic counterparts to vote sane. I know that for the first time in our adult lives, my husband has volunteered to go door to door. (I've done it mind you, but him- never) It's that important. So everyone, go out. Do something. Make phone calls. Convince you old aunt, your next door neighbor and the mailman to vote for Romney, or if they plan to vote Obama, to stay at home!

Armageddon is only 41 days off.

Funny with the supposedly huge lead preazy enjoys in PA, I have seen a handful of lawn signs and bumper stickers supporting him, in an area that went for him by a 20 point margin in 2008. The foreclosure crisis in the Philly burbs is real. Zip codes that were formerly bulletproof are compromised. I can't see how people whose lives have changed dramatically for the worse would be inclined to re-elect the engineer of this debacle. Bush is long gone, no one can blame him anymore. Plus, Pat Toomey won in 2010, and the GOP retook the legislature and the governorship. These victories could not have occurred without support from suburban Philadelphia.

The Susquehanna poll is the only published poll that shows a tight race here. Chris Steagall of 1210-AM had the president of that outfit on to defend his findings. It's probably on podcast, I haven't heard it yet.

That's what I don't get. They have to know that if Obama loses they're basically dead as an industry because they're telling everyone right now that the race is over and Obama's going to win easily. If this election turns out in any way similar to the Wisconsin recall then their credibility will be gone as the vast majority of Americans will never again believe them. I guess that's part of the reason they've gone from subtle bias to open advocacy.

94-95% of the respondents are considered to be "likely voters". Keep in mind that in 2008 only 75% of registered voters actually voted, so this number, on the surface, is simply preposterous.

So if they are oversampling democrats, they are also oversampling a sample group that simply will not vote at the rate they are projecting. So these D+8 samples are really turning into D+11 or D+12 when factoring in the polling inflation.

I simply have to do something about that CBS station that wakes me up in the morning.  I am in a foul temper all day long.

The bad part about these polls is that realistically only 3% of the population understands about D/R/I ratios and M/F mixes.   They just listen and believe.

166 The poll obsession has gotten out of hand.  Some of these pundits remind me of kids in a car alternately whining "Are we there yet,  are we there yet?"  or begging to stop at every attraction and burger joint along Route 66.

For goodness sake,  the candidate has his own polls,  the media polls are trash,  and at least two of the other polls are run by universities.  They are NOT going to portray Romney with favorable numbers.

In addition,  here's a flash bit of news for the pundits:  there are many different ways to campaign,  and many possible routes to winning.   I am sick of hearing "unless Mitt does THIS all is lost."

When this election is over,  I am going to make sure I reduce my listening to talk radio and viewing of Fox.   These people don't know one bit more about things than we do,  they get paid big bucks for their stupid reports and comments,  and they are nothing but a hindrance and depressing background noise.

And a fair amount of them are totally stupid.  I am still remembering the Fox News commenter who insisted to me that I had nothing to worry about with the Arab Spring.  Even I,  Midwest grandma and antique seller,  knew the Muslim Brotherhood was ready to pounce.

The MFM lost all credibility with the public after 2008. even Democrats agreed that the MFM was in the tank for Obama.

IMO they certainly damaged their credibility with a decent amount of the public in 2008, but if Romney wins this their credibility will be on par with Baghdad Bob. In other words, no matter what they say the public will reflexively believe the opposite to be true.

180 I can't believe these polling firms are throwing their reputations in the toilet to show the worst President in my lifetime "ahead" in an election he should lose. From "The Campaign Spot" Pennsylvania 2008 exits: 44% Democrat, 37% Republican, 18% Independent. Pennsylvania New York Times/Quinnipiac 2012 sample: 39% Democrat, 28% Republican, 27% Independent. Somehow a D+7 split has turned into D+11 split, and RepublicansÂ’ share of the electorate is nine percentage points less than they were four years ago. Florida 2008 exits: 37% Democrat, 34% Republican, 29% Independent. Florida New York Times/Quinnipiac 2012 sample: 36% Democrat, 27% Republican, 33% Independent. Each partyÂ’s share only shifts a few percentage points, but the overall split goes from D+3 to D+9.

I am pretty confident that the push-back against these polls is starting to take hold in the mainstream of the public.  Conservative websites and writers have been pretty much on a mission for the last 3 weeks or so to openly challenge these polling companies over methodology and bias.  This is all good.

212 @ 197 So, what we have is a slight Romney lead in Ohio.  As evidenced by where in the state the respective campaigns are campaigning.  Romney was in suburban Columbus, and Toledo yesterday.  Obama did a downtown Cincinnati thing and has been camped in metro Cleveland/Akron.

Obama needs some push in inner-city Cincinnati to make SW Oh less of a wasteland for him, and he desperately needs NE Oh to man the barricades.  Romney looks to be trying to peel off affluent suburban women in the northern half of the state as well as blue-collar whites in the old, inner-ring suburbs around Cleveland and Toledo.

In the end, I believe Romney wins Ohio by 3.5%.

Updated at 7:59 a.m. ET: An anti-Islam film that sparked violent protests in many countries had "nothing to do with" a deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi earlier this month, Libya's president told NBC News.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News' Ann Curry, President Mohamed Magarief discounted claims that the attack was in response to a movie produced in California and available on YouTube. He noted that the assault happened on Sept. 11 and that the video had been available for months before that.

"Reaction should have been, if it was genuine, should have been six months earlier. So it was postponed until the 11th of September," he said. "They chose this date, 11th of September to carry a certain message."

Oh Barry, even the president of Libya says you should drop your little BS about the video

"I see two ways the polls are tilted in favor of the president.... First, many of the polls are guessing that Democrats are set to turn out at levels that match or sometimes exceed 2008.... "

His second point is that the polls are predicting an uncharacteristic level of control over party unity: too high for Dems, too low for Republicans. (In other words, the pct. of Democrats supporting Obama is higher now than it will be in the general election; likewise, the pct. of Republicans supporting Romney is lower now than it will be.) This will give Romney another 2 points.

Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame is supporting Romney. http://is.gd/CZwu2r Posted by: Vic at September 26, 2012 06:56 AM (YdQQY) Ben Shapiro of Breitbart talked about this last night on a Canadian show called Byline, with Brian Lilley. http://tinyurl.com/cvx5frb Around the 6:45 minute mark talks about California and Hollywood. One point of interest in this interview: There's a broad base of money out here that's looking to support Romney... (as we know, but he goes further) This states a lost cause (Cali)... We're basically just taking our cash and pouring it into other states trying to get Mitt Romney elected, so maybe we can turn this state around...because, God knows, California is Greece of the United States. Good to hear California conservative money is shifting out where it might help. Another comment that was interesting from Ben, was that Hollywood is also suffering under Obama. First I heard someone admit this. As people have less cash in their pocket, they spend less on entertainment. I think it goes a bit beyond that, people are just disgusted with Hollywood, its output and its blind support for Obama, but whatever works.

265 And yet, no one seems to have given thought to how to get around (or through) this challenge. It's called alternative media, and it's been growing. It was what Breitbart was all about - and spent the remaining years of his life advocating. Journalism schools are inherently liberal. This is one area where we might need to make progress - like Hillsdale College, but one with specific degrees in journalism. Conservatives own the radio waves - that is why the libs are constantly trying to destroy it. Fox News has a big target on it from libs - because it is often the most watched in the nation. Most "liberal" newspapers (like the NYTIMES) are constantly on the verge of bankruptcy. And, if you paid attention to the recent polls - a majority distrust the news. TV News channels have all lost viewership. It's working, it's just going to take perseverance and diligence. We can never let up. Hollywood is even being damaged as of late. People are turning off shows like never before - exactly because we have other choices.

Okay, here's a question for folks.      I'm probably going to annoy some people, but hear   me out.

If this most recent kerfluffle in the NFL hadn't happened on a Monday night game between two potential playoff teams, would it be getting anywhere NEAR the media attention it's gotten?   If it had been a one o'clock game between, say, Buffalo and Cleveland, would it have received even HALF the attention it's gotten?   In either case the argument would be the same -- a blatantly wrong call that cost a team the game.     But would it really be dominating    the national    media attention    in the same way?

I suggest that no, it wouldn't.

The fact is this isn't about the officiating.     It's not about player safety.     It's not about the    sanctity of the game.     It's about the playoffs.  It's about fantasy leagues and betting   pools in Vegas.   It's about a hugely popular, big market team being gypped out of a win to a conference rival on national television.

This is why I'm so annoyed by this story.   Folks don't want to talk about these things -- the REAL reasons why     so many     fans and players and coaches alike are angry.     It's come up in a few stories, but if you    listen to sports radio    it's barely mentioned.

Look,    if you want to debate that the    old refs need to get back on the field to ensure that games move faster, that   player   safety is better maintained, and that    the   rules are enforced equally and fairly across the    board, then you bet; I am on board with that 100%.  But if that's the case then the uproar should have started in week one with    the Arizona/Seattle game that very nearly    went to Seattle despite Arizona clearly having won;   only a dropped pass    saved that game from being an embarrassment.    By a week later it was forgotten.

If you want to talk about player safety, you should be pointing to all the illegal hits that go uncalled    --   the chop blocks and horse collars, the unnecessary roughness,   the on-field skirmishes and fights    --  that have been happening every week in just about every game since the start of the season.

It is absolutely legitimate to    be upset and even angry about what happened Monday night.   But I'm sorry; it is not a watershed moment because of some pie in the sky realization about player safety or fairness.      It's because a lot of people saw it happen, and a lot of people -- a LOT -- lost a ton of money.   You're damn right I'd be pissed if I was one of them.   But can we at least be HONEST about it?   I'm looking at you, ESPN.     If this had been a 'Who Cares' game between two teams that no one thinks are going to make the playoffs, let alone the    Super Bowl,    with    close to zero    talent on their    rosters     that would make a difference in the audience's fantasy leagues, then no.  This wouldn't be a story.   It would be a cautionary tale:    "See what could happen to YOUR team?    Imagine if this had had playoff implications!"      But the baying for     Roger Goodell's blood, for the heads of the replacement refs,   would be     a quiet     rumble in   the background    that   would be largely dismissed by the sports media and not even touched upon by the mainstream media.

Anyway, like I said, I'm probably going to annoy some people with this.  But it's been    making me itch with aggravation and I had to get it off my chest.    Your mileage may vary.

283 Last thing, then I have a bunch of work to do.

Someone linked to the new Ulstermann above.  Keep in mind that *if* this is real (and I think WHI is real), then you are seeing what the Romney campaign wants you to think is their view of the race.  WHI isn't going to release internals without approval.  They aren't worried about Obama, because they know Obama has the same internals.  So this release is geared toward sending a message to voters.

Since they aren't showing themselves as winning, they are either giving an honest state of the race, or are skewing slightly toward Obama to get people energized.  What they aren't doing is trying to sell a sense of certainty.

Now having said that, lets look at the reported battleground:

CO - Even
FL - +1
IA - +2
NV - -2
NH - +2
NC - +4
OH - -1
OR - -3
PA - -4
VA - Even
WI - -3

This gives Romney a base of 191 and Obama a base of 208.

If we give Obama every state he leads except Ohio, and Romney every state he leads, Romney has 245 and Obama 251.

That leaves Ohio, Colorado, and Virginia

Romney needs to win Ohio and one of the other states.  If he doesn't win Ohio, then he needs to win CO and VA, then take WI and OR or WI and NV (or a handful of other combos).

Ohio is the key for both campaigns, the path to victory is easier with it.

Turnout in Ohio will be critical.  In 2004 Ohio turned out R+5, in 2010 R+1, and in 2008 D+8.

Sports guy said that unlike all of the rest of the NFL teams,  Green Bay doesn't have one guy who can get on the horn and cry "BS!"  They are owned by a large number of people who have shares,  and although they have a business manager,  there is no one person who could lean on the refs or Roger Goodell to get the decision reverse.  And to that I will also say that Green Bay is a small TV market compared to most of the other cities.

I love it when some liberal whack job declares this or that a right.

There are only two questions that need to be asked to show they don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

1) From where is this right derived.
2) What are the limits of this right.

As you stated in your article it's not a natural right so it's a man-made right, ok, fair enough.

But what are the limits to this right to healthcare. Are they unlimited, should you be provided any and all health care that is available? Who pays? How do we pay for this limitless right to health care?

It's really hard to engage these people, I commend you!

You're probably still thinking this is an election like Bush/Gore or Bush/Kerry, where there was a body of persuadable undecideds.  This is not the case today.

Although there is a substantial group of ultra-low information voters, there are few undecideds left.  Turnout is the only variable now that matters, which is why the MSM is trying everything possible to depress republican voting.

Mitt's money is better spent on ground operations than filling the airwaves with commercials no one is going to pay attention to.

There are natural rights and then there are 'rights' that man infers as springing from these natural rights.

Civil Rights, Gay Rights, Women's Rights, The Right to an Education, Right to Health Care, Wage Rights, the Right to limitless inexpensive cable, etc..

I never said these were Natural but they are inferred and must be argued over, it's scope an limitations.

You are never going have a productive conversation with the American people about the differences between Natural Rights vs. Man-Made rights.

It's just not going to happen. The best you could do is have an argument about it's limits.

We have to get at the root of the issue, not just combat the symptoms.

Part of that is the appliance...energy saving, water saving, and they don't work very well. The other side of that coin is the removal of phosphates from consumer cleaning products, like laundry detergent, and dishwasher detergent.

You can get around the later by either purchasing the commercial equivalent of your favorite detergents, many of which still contain phosphates, or head down to the local hardware store, and pick up a couple pounds of TSP. Add a quarter cup to each load you run through your washing machine, and about a third of that in your dishwasher, (adjusting quantities for the best results). This is in addition to your regular detergents.

You'll notice the biggest difference in your dishwasher.

I've got a relative who works for a PR firm that does logistics for focus groups in Michigan. They concentrated on Macomb County, which will decide the way the state goes.

She had no problem filling all the seats for independents and previous Obama voters who were "undecided" (but ultimately were either going to vote Romney or not vote), but they couldn't put one panel together with people who voted McCain and were going to switch.

Only two panels were mixed - men and women - all the rest were strictly women. From what I heard, married, divorced, separated and widowed all leaned to Mitt. Single and young went Obama.

The most underreported scam the MSM is pulling in the polls next to party identification is weighting the women wrong.

362 So, Dave, what's wrong with the Bloomberg poll? Dem +2 sample looks very fair. And, yet, Obama still with a big lead. Maybe Romney just does stink that bad?

Same here in WI. Obama doing a rally in Milwaukee when if he was really in good shape here he'd be up in the Fox River Valley like 2008.

I would expect a visit to Madison at UW campus in a last ditch trip into WI later in Oct.

365 1. The Bullshit Polls, which even when not handled by commies with an agenda are the definition of a stretch.

I'm hoping that when the JEF gets rolled and the Children of the Cornhole engage in their typical temper tantrums of blame shifting, that they turn on the quisling pollsters who "misled" them into complacency.  Much hilarity should then ensue.

But if we do end up doing that, I'll be letting folks here know we're headed that way. Maybe we can figure out a way to do a moron meet. Jesus, you are really behind aren't you?  I've already reweighted and included it in the average.  I even mentioned it is D+2.

Using 2008: O+7

370 I liked that the joint, "on the tarmac" interviews with R+R were in Vandalia.  Not Centerville and Miamisburg, but Vandalia.  Hits the Dayton metro market but in a north-side swing suburb, not in the main Repub suburbs on the SE side.  Then they went on to Cbus and the Cleveland and Toledo events.

They are following the Rob Portman machine playbook.  Obama is trolling for votes he should already have in NE Ohio and on college campuses.  Romney is taking territory, not defending territory.

Make of that what you will.

Incidentally, I believe the power of media-agenda polling is in the diminishing return part of the influence cycle, nearly where TV ads are.  White noise that people blip by and ignore.

Be not afraid.

372 Hispanic voters are considered pivotal to the presidential election this November, and are being heavily courted by both Democratic incumbent Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney. If they turn out in large numbers, Hispanics could sway the outcome in several swing states. Obama has been bribing them for the past 3 years. He's in the driver's seat, and has the power to use taxpayer money to do this. Romney has to make a strong case, on the other hand. O just paid them off again - the big "hispanic women farmers" payoff. This is why incumbents are hard to beat. They use our money to bribe the constituency.

I think the WHI is real, and that the internals he just gave out are based on reality.  But I don't think they are exact.  The "East Coast State" is most likely PA, so read the section written about PA again.  The O+4 has a lot of caveats.

But it is easiest to just assume Obama is going to win PA and work with that.

==========

This is anecdotal but there is a Hispanic guy that helps us around the house (yes, he's legal).  He was telling us the other day that he has a friend from Miami, FL visiting.  Friend is also legal.  Friend told him that the Hispanics in FL are NOT voting for Obama.  As our friend put it "They follow Rubio and brother of Bush."    (Every time he said, "Brother of Bush", I said, "Jeb".  He'd respond, "Yeah, brother of Bush.")

Now I'm sure the Friend from Florida doesn't know how ALL Hispanics in Florida will vote....but it was interesting.

You Pathetic Load of Communal Horse Cum have every excuse under the sun as to why Obama's beating Romney, except the most obvious ones.  For starters, all of his competitors in the run-up to the nomination called him a vacillating weather vane, completely dependent upon consultants.  When you look at the series of gaffes in that light, even a liberturdian has to say, "hey, ya know what, I'm not sure I believe this android.  i mean, I hate Obama's black ass, sure, he's a commie -- but this mannequin ... shit, at least I believe that Barry believes most of what he says."  The other reason, which YPLOCHC will NEVER EVER admit, is that the Republicunt party, since it's been hijacked by goat-fucking libertardians whose brain activity is that of a Mississippi boll weavil, has NO MESSAGE to give to the American people that could possibly resonate.  Unless, of course,  you think that o abortions ever (even due to rape), tax cuts for the "small businesses" (the rich), belt tightening and "tough decisions" (gutting the social safety net IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECESSION, mind you) for the middle class, and, of course, the annihilation of unions (the last guarantee of a living wage for the working class) is an effective message.  which YPLOCHC all seem to believe.  thank you, libertardian, racist, greedy, self-deceptive fringe dwellers.  You can all be proud that YOU, more than anyone else, handed this election over to Obama.  (smooches!)

Uh, guys? Saying "half - or almost half - of the electorate sucks" may well be true, but I don't see it as a winning message in a democracy.

Put another way, the Makers vs. Takers distinction may also well be true, but. Goody goody gumdrops that it resonates with a fired-up base who already believes it.  But those people were never going to be 0bam voters anyway. Romney should have been able to win that demographic just by breathing (the ABO, crawl-over-broken-glass vote).

If that line of messaging turns off enough people in the middle and in swing states, it's not a winning message. I know y'all think the REAL majority is with you, and ALL the polls are LIES. Good luck with that.

Complaining about media bias is a broken record and just makes us look whiny. Was the media biased in 1980? 1984? 1988? 2000? 2004? 2010? Yes! And for a long time there was NONE of the counterweight. Heard of Fox News? Rush, and talk radio generally? or AoSHQ and the dextroblogosphere generally?

Look: either the old media is a dying shell (Fox ratings kick ass vs. NBC etc.; NYT and WaPo are circling the drain, so who gives a shit about what they say) or the dread MSM bias actually matters. I don't see how it can be both.

404 With appliances, it is no longer brand, but model. When we had our current house built, we bought all of our appliances via Sears - getting a household package deal. Big mistake, as we have been replacing every single appliance, other than the GE Profile gas range. Historically, we used to rely on brands (like Maytag) but now, we have to look at each model and try to compare to like models of other brands. Like flat screen TV's. Or, mattresses for that matter. I bought a new Maytag (Bravos XL) washing machine recently - due to the user reviews (I was going to avoid Maytag once they were bought out). I refused to buy the front loader - all the rage - because of what Vic was talking about, the mildew issue, which many people complained about. I went with a newer tub model, where it tilts and rocks around - and also can only use the HE laundry detergent - which I hate, but w/e. It is a great machine and cleans really well. Bought a GE Profile gas range for the kitchen, and so far, it's been perfect, both with even oven temps and the stove top performance. And, as far as dishwashers, ours died while under warranty, and I had to fight to get it fixed for free. When the contractor came to fix it, he also argued with me - trying to tell me it wasn't covered after I had already hammered all of that out with the company to begin with. Why is a contractor arguing with you? I was fuming. I think he purposely did not fix it properly, because months later, it completely died again. It was a Kenmore. I bought a KitchenAid the 2nd round, and, again, so far the reviews were right for this particular model.
