Happy Thursday.

We're not even in silly season anymore. Now it's just stupid season. Tell me the one again about how nation-class politicians aren't good communicators. It's such a hah-hah.

Economists fret (or gloat, alternately) that China's slowdown may be permanent. Economists can be such bitches.

I absolutely adore when pundits describe a candidate who is flying all over the country, making three stump speeches a day, attending fundraisers, filming ads, doing TV interviews, and simultaneously prepping for the debates as needing "new energy." Wait, no I don't.

This is the inverse complaint from the Fred Thompson primary campaign of five years ago. Then, the candidate said plenty of right things, but just didn't seem that interested in the day-to-day slog of campaigning. This time, the candidate is going all-out campaigning, but GOP pundits don't like the message. NEWSFLASH: Mitt Romney is the candidate. Glad you noticed. Now, try and keep up.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Thursday, September 27, 2012.  On this day in 1964 the Warren Commission issued its report concluding that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing JFK.  The conspiracy gurus immediately set upon it with fiendish glee.

5 Post Office to default on retiree payments for second time.  If this was a true public business it would be bankrupt.  Their problem is that they have too many benefits for the competition they has and Congress tampers with its sacred right to keep open useless offices in small communities that do not even qualify as towns.  Since Congress can not keep its hands out it needs to just let it die and a private company take over. Noot.  On the one hand he'd hate having to explain somebody's actions other than his own; but he'd also get to pontificate on television constantly and tell the MFM to go fuck themselves.  It will never happen but it would potentially be hilarious.  In some ways it would be the perfect gig for him because he'd be a fucking train wreck as President.

48 I personally choose to gloat over China's decline. Re: Hillary and others going off the reservation, it will be interesting to see how Obama handles this issue at the debates. So far, he has been pretty committed to "the vid did it" theory, which is frankly cringe-worthy. But per Ace yesterday, what else is he going to do, shift gears and say that he skipped a pre-9/11 intel briefing and a totally predictable terror threat went unaddressed? Either way (out of touch re the vid or missed totally obvious 9/11 signals), it would seem Romney should be able to capitalize.

They had a 'concern troll' Republican lamenting the fact that the (R) candidate MUST win Ohio, then citing some (D)+10 oversampled poll that had Romney behind by a couple. Like you, I'm no low information voter, and like you can find the actual data very quickly. But the average voter subjected to this line of unending BS?

51 Ah, the Fred Thompson candidacy. Very popular on the Internet and in talk radio circles. But then they actually started voting. But that's the whole point, isn't it? The pundit class, perhaps especially on the GOP side, is so detached from Main Street reality it boggles the mind. Echo chambers are not merely for caves and cocoons are not merely for caterpillars. That aside, this election already was the most important in history but now in a not-so-surprising twist it's become a direct and perhaps a final referendum on the conservative chattering classes. The Rubicon has been crossed. The country is facing literal ruination at the prospect of another four years of Obama. The liberal media has decided to go all in and as we speak is engaging in a coordinated strategy (bogus polling) specifically designed to depress Romney's fundraising and to suppress conservative turnout. Simply put the left is attempting to dupe the right into not voting and it's so obvious Helen Keller could see it. So there you have it. The right side of the chattering classes have an opportunity to prove that they can be sentient and rational, en masse, and that they're not marks for the left nor political simpletons. On November 6th we'll find out.

Because, well, they can, Vic.

The Canadians are uber-tolerant of the French-speakers, with laws demanding bilingual text on everything from candy wrappers to official documents. Speaking French also gets you bonus point if you want to emigrate there.

Back when I was spending more time up there, the Quebecois were demanding that ATCs in Quebec be allowed to communicate with aircraft in French. That, thank goodness, didn't get off the ground (so to speak).

Many (most?) of the "people" who voted for Obama in 2008 will never admit to themselves that they made a mistake, and many will verbally state they still support him...if asked directly (especially to a faceless voice on the phone). However, this MSM drumbeat gives them ready-made rationale for not making it to the station to vote ("Of course I wan't Obama to win, I didn't make a mistake, but he doesn't need my vote to win anyway....CNN says it's in the bag". On the other hand, Conservatives are ready to crawl through broken glass and piles of used Haitian drug needles to vote against Obama....regardless of the MSM fantasies.

So, I was reading an article about the 1980 election and how the press faked the polls to depress GOP turnout, but in the end Reagan won big.  Made me think that maybe when the press fakes polls, instead of depressing the GOP vote, it actually causes panic and therefore  motivates  turnout.  Win-win: press looks foolish and we get a Republican POTUS. Or it's part of the strategy.  For example, pretend to lose interest in the state.  Obama switches his money to other risky states.  Romney , who now has a pile of money, comes back in after O has already blown his.  It's almost as if there might be a clever strategy in play here.

Or how 'bout that IA event at a farm but the son of the farmer said he wouldn't vote for O. O's campaign is a sad little shadow of '08. '10 proves the wave is on our side.

The first debate is about domestic policy and unless the entire debate focuses on gay marriage, abortion and contraception, which is a very likely possibility, what is Obama going to offer? It's all Bush's fault? Republicans?

All Romney has to say is the for the first 2 years of his administration Obama had Congress and the Senate and got everything he wanted and everything he did made everything worse.

There is not a single thing that has trended in a positive direction since Obama has been in office.

Even if they don't the MFM will cover the highlights.  When Reagan hit Carter with "There you go again" that's all that was on tv for days even though they hated Reagan.  They're much more in the tank for Stumblefuck McEarflaps than they were for Adultery of the Heart, but if he does as poorly as I think he'll do, even they won't be able to cover for him.  But they'll try.

Concern trolls out early, I see.  Yeah, we've heard it before.  Romney can't win.  He's another McStain.  The election's been rigged.  The polls are underreporting Democrats.

Whatever.

Except for those of you in deep blue states (like me) whose vote won't matter, all of those "concerns" are even more reason to get out there and vote.  And if you are in deep blue, then - to quote that great political strategerist RuPaul - you better work!  Man a phone bank.  Make contributions.  Support the goddamn team instead of pulling a Hudson!

Rant off.

Thanks for the news roundup, Gabe and Vic.  Hey, Vic, speaking of the Warren Commission, did you ever read Vincent Bugliosi's Reclaiming History?  Built like a damn doorstop, but fascinating reading.

Here's a story about Errol Flynn and Bette Davis:

In the 1939 film The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, there is a scene where Flynn, as Essex, gets a cold reception from Davis (as Elizabeth) because he didn't appear at her side as soon as he came back from Ireland.  "Well, m'lord Essex," says Davis, "what have you to say for yourself?"  "I have much to say for myself -" Flynn replies, "but little for you!"  At which point, Elizabeth slaps Essex in the face in front of the entire court.

Davis didn't like Flynn (she had wanted Laurence Olivier), and during rehearsal she slapped him so hard he nearly passed out.  When Flynn managed to recover, he went to her dressing room.  "Bette," he began, "I want to talk to you about something - "

Davis waved her hand superciliously.  "I know perfectly well what you're going to say," she sneered, "but if you can't take a little slap, that's just too bad.  I can't do it any other way.  That's the kind of actress I am," she finished, giving Flynn a haughty glare, "and I stress actress!"

A humiliated Flynn slunk out, vowing that if Davis hit him again, he'd slug her back.  But to his surprise, when they shot the scene, she only faked the slap.  Her hand came within a fraction of his cheek, and the rest would be up to the Foley artist.

Flynn was glad Davis restrained herself, but her superior attitude still irked him.  A few days later, when they were rehearsing a scene which called for Essex to give Elizabeth a playful slap on the back, he saw his chance.  “I held my hand way out there,” he later said, “and it went sailing right through her Elizabethan dresses, slappo!  Smack on her Academy Award behind!”

Davis whirled around in fury.  Flynn just smiled and said, “IÂ’m awful sorry.  I donÂ’t know how to do it any other way.”

She never spoke to him again off the set.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

ps - OSP, I'm sorry I didn't write you yesterday; I'll be in touch today.

181 I've been saying 40 states for Romney for about six months.

I have to revise that:

38 states, bitchez.

****

I haven't predicted a number of states as you have but have said for a while now that this race is nowhere near as close as the MSM and pollsters would have us believe.

Despite the best efforts of Hollyweird, NYC dahlinks, the MSM, the polling organizations, the trolls, the Flukes, and the rest, the best they can conjure up is a neck-and-neck scenario.

It's like looking at a resume and knowing that abut 10% of what is listed is utter bullshit.

They are lying UP to neck-and-neck.

ARRRRGH!

You SHOULD care, Greenie.     Because depending on what the refs "got," you can look    forward to ticket prices going up, concession prices going up, team store prices going up,   etc.   So when you're back on the air again in a year's time bitching   about how pre-season tickets are even MORE expensive than they were   this year, and isn't that ridiculous, I want you to remember this:  YOU DIDN'T CARE.

I reject the notion that there is no plan here.  We can argue about whether or not the plan is correct, but Mitt without a plan is as likely as Russians and bathrooms without one.  Based on his track record, I'm willing to assume his plan is a good one.

Hot, sexy, quirky looking actress from Sea of Love and The Big Easy. Very Angie Dickinson-like. She married into serious money and, apparently, lost her ever-loving mind.

At almost 60 still has an outrageous figure.

255 Because depending on what the refs "got," you can look forward to ticket prices going up, concession prices going up, team store prices going up, etc. So when you're back on the air again in a year's time bitching about how pre-season tickets are even MORE expensive than they were this year, and isn't that ridiculous, I want you to remember this: YOU DIDN'T CARE. 269 My question is though when are we going to see the big turn around? Or are we looking at the msm going all the way with this? Or is this the ultimate cover for stealing the election? I mean they could commit massive fraud and then just point to the polls as their denial "We didn't cheat, we were ahead all along!" Kind of thing. If the polls are all crap then what can we use and point to as evidence that Romney is winning? Also have we been working on a plan B in case this f*ck head wins? Are we ready to start acting like the left did against Bush? I mean obviously if we lose this time it proves that what we have been doing so far hasn't been working and maybe it is time to change tactics.

KENT, Ohio (Reuters) - President Barack Obama flubbed a line during a campaign speech on Wednesday, mistakenly saying he wanted to export U.S. jobs, before correcting himself and jokingly blaming Republican rival Mitt Romney.

So now Romney is responsible for his flubs?

In the middle of remarks to an enthusiastic crowd in the battleground state of Ohio, Obama was describing a five-point plan to boost employment and lay a "stronger foundation" for the U.S. economy when he stumbled at a crucial word.

Thank you Reuters for letting us know it was an enthusiastic crowd. Or was that just Reuters getting the leg tingles?

288 It's harder to see the ground game results reflected on a daily or weekly basis. You can see it if you look. For example. >>Early voting on pace to surpass 2008 levels in Ohio >>Much of the early action is in Cuyahoga (Cleveland) and Hamilton (Cincinnati) counties. In Hamilton, absentee ballot requests are running ahead of the 2008 pace by 3 to 1, according to Board of Elections director Amy Searcy. As of this morning, her office had received 58,727 requests. Of those, 9,453 were from voters who requested Democratic ballots in primaries this year, and 17,824 from voters seeking Republican ballots. The rest were nonpartisan. >>Cognizant of the high stakes surrounding the early vote, both campaigns are all over the state this week. The Post’s Philip Rucker reports that at a Romney rally this morning in the central Ohio town of Westerville, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) urged the crowd to cast early ballots. “I’ve got a question: How many of you still have an application for an absentee ballot? Let’s see those hands, you’ve gotta do it, we have those applications here today,” Portman said. “Do it for yourself, do it for your friends, do it for your neighbors, do it for the folks you go to work with. Help people vote. We need to bag those votes, don’t we? We’ve got to win this one.” http://tinyurl.com/9dmscgy This is the kind of stuff McCain did not do last election. Romney is spending tons on this. This, not ads, is what wins elections and what has Obama so worried. You could also go read that RNC blurb from last week where they outlined the enormous amount of contacts they have been making this cycle. Its orders of magnitude greater than what McCain did. Just because Noonan and Scarborough are busy whining doesn't mean Romney isn't doing anything.

The NFL is run by a bunch of fucking retards.  Very rich retards but definitely retards.  The rulebook is a giant clusterfuck that defies intelligent refereeing; until that is cleared up and garbage like the tuck rule and completing the catch in the end zone is removed, there will continue to be controveries where none should exist.  I'm convinced that the league will ultimately fail.  Fat fuck Goodell continues the practice of playing "over the pond" (if there was one annoying POS phrase I could permanently eradicate from usage, that would be it) in front of empty stadiums because NOBODY FUCKING CARES there.  The concussions will continue because you can't have large masses moving at increasingly faster speeds and colliding without the brain getting badly bruised.  Helmet tecnology can only do so much.  And with all of his "concern" about player safety, fuckface Goodell has the Ravens playing their fourth game in seventeen days.  Anybody want to square that circle for me?

No the MSM is going to the mattresses this time.

I feel the turn around happens during the debates, because even though they
are in the tank for Obama, they have to at some point ask a real question of him for which his only response is going to be to point his finger at every one but himself. And then Romney will have him.

In fact I don't think we are going to get a full round of debates from Obama.

I think he will decline at least one and probably the last two.

337 Looks like the capital strike is working on durables. This could all fall into place, as we'll be going on a spending blitz in November. Also inferred that my company has implemented an informal hiring freeze ...until November. Boy BFF is, once again, looking for work. He's being told point blank by the recruiting firms he works with that nearly every company has a hiring freeze in place for the fourth quarter. By the end of next week, we will have lost half of our staff (they got other jobs so yay them boo us). Right now we aren't looking to replace anyone either. Anecdote, plural, etc. but this seems to be in line with what others are saying.

I think most people accept them as pretty accurate.  Obviously, with a secret ballot, you can't know that for sure, but I think they've proven to be pretty accurate, historically speaking.

You may be remembering the early exit polls from the 2004 election which were being gamed (at least in order of release) to make it look like Kerry was winning in a walk to depress R turn out in other states.

Yes they are from exits, but they are not the questionable ones from 2004.  You can only work from the data you have, and those are the numbers generally accepted by everyone.  If I have some time at some point I'll look into the accuracy of them.

360 Priebus on the radio here in Milwaukee right now:

- polls aren't worth whining about - no way they can predict the turnout.

- higher percentage of Dems in 2012 that 2008? Can't even stomach

- Ryan up 25% in his House race

- Ground game is how you win elections- showed it in WI. RNC has $77 million in the bank for GOTV ground game, DNC is broke and there's only so much can borrow.

- Authorized another multi million dollar ad buy via the RNC and another likely next week. Focusing on WI, VA, OH.

- Country right track/wrong track in our favor - Reagan was down before the debates and hammered this fact. Debates matter.

- Change Romney message/strategy? No, keep pounding away. Message is simple - they have a plan and as closer to election more and more specific with 5 point plan.

- Any concerns about not taking Senate? None. Expect Thompson, Rehberg, Fisher, Berg and Brown holds and we're good. Not even without mentioning McMahon, Mack, Allen, etc.

- GOTV will win this for our side.

361 For real entertainment, check out the comments section of any Yahoo pro-Obama article---there are lots to choose from because they post about 17 per day.  The people that puke at the sound of Obama's name are completely in the majority and that includes conservatives, NWO freaks, Paulians, and so on.  The minority that still are true believers absolutely believe he has nothing to worry about, that Romney is only going to win a handful of southern (racist) states.  They also spout that crap about 4 million jobs and all claim to have made a killing in the stock market.   The party line about Romney's taxes really tripped them up, though.  When you don't pay taxes you have a hard time understanding how complicated concepts like the charitable deductions, filing extensions, blind trusts, and so on work.

My greatest wish is that these idiots will feel so secure that they will play Halo until their hands fall off, confident that Uncle Sugar will be in town the next four years.

If they showed him ahead, he would have been championing them, as Harry Reid did to Ralston from the LVRJ when some polls showed him losing. 370 "Yeah...Reince wouldn't talk about internals when in charge of WIGOP during our last set of elections. We should still be licking our wounds from the great losses of 2010 and 2012 by your theory." Nearly all the polls showed Walker and Johnson winning in 2010, and all the polls showed WAlker winning his recall. That's much different from 2012, when Romney is behind in everything and actual news stories are based around Romney's horrible poll numbers. If the internals were strong for Romney, it's Preibus' job to point that out, which he never does. And, why not? Because their internals aren't good, either. This is common sense, people.

378 I have to take issue with that Fred Thompson crack.  (Since I spent WAY too much time debunking the claim at the time.)

At the time, he was doing at least as many events the other candidates.  His schedule was absolutely packed, running from early in the morning, to late in the evening.  He had a helpful on-line calendar which made this obvious to anyone bothering to check.

<shrug>  His scalp is the first one I'm aware of that can be attributed directly to one Ben Smith.  Nearly every claim he threw about the Thompson campaign was debunked within a half hour.  But those claims are what's largely remembered about the campaign.
