— Gabriel Malor Happy Friday.
Communications intercepted just after the Benghazi attack show that members of the radical militia Ansar al-Sharia bragged about it to Al Qaeda in North Africa. They were not gloating about any dumb YouTube video.
Bo Xilai, the former Communist Party leader in China will face criminal charges for corruption, abuse of power, bribetaking, and improper relations with women.
I'm not sure I linked this yesterday: incomes in red states are rising nine times faster than incomes in blue states. Coincidence, I'm sure.
79 percent of Americans believe that everyone should pay at least some income tax. Oh, but Romney saying so was just a career-ender, hmmm?

As Jack Napier says, decent people shouldnÂ’t live here, they would be happier someplace else. But since the uncivilized savages were also stupid, they video taped the whole thing and posted it on facebook.

Black April
The defeat of South Vietnam was arguably AmericaÂ’s worst foreign policy disaster of the 20th Century. George J Veith's expertly researched and enlightening account gives a complete understanding of the endgame--from the January 27, 1973, signing of the Paris Peace Accords to South VietnamÂ’s surrender on April 30, 1975.
Note: Reviewing the comments it appears this book is primarily about the military side of this and doesnÂ’t devolve into the political aspects. The primary reason South Vietnam went down was because congress cut off all military funding despite the fact that North Vietnam was still getting it.
We didn’t “lose South Vietnam”, we gave it away after the North has been largely defeated. And BTW, I was there during this time frame on the Enterprise, including evacuating the last of the Americans including the last person from the embassy, a Marine.
BTW, we are doing the same shit in Afghanistan which is all the more reason why we need to GTFO now.
Vic
And thatÂ’s it for this morning.

All the more reason to raise electricity rates in MI. If they make energy more expensive business will increase and more people will get jobs.
At least that is what the JEF said.

What most of us instinctively know is that early voting is another attempt by the D party to trawl through nursing homes and urban, third-world sinkholes, to make sure they get the votes of all those people who can't be bothered to go to the polls themselves.
Honestly though, other than inventing non-existent people (or digging up corpses), they can't get these deadbeats to vote any more than they always have. It's a desperate attempt by a desperate party to hold onto their jobs, by getting the weak, the disinterested, and the rotting dregs of society to be counted as if they care, when THEY know as well as we do that they don't.
It's pathetic. And it only sometimes works. This year it won't.

Re interaction with the police, it seems that if you involved in anything that might be construed as a "political act" against the interests of the entrenched progressive (Republican party) ruling classes, it is best if you state only your full name if asked, and otherwise say nothing without a lawyer present. Even then, you can still be accused of false statements, but at least you will have made them work for it.
The "legal/judicial" system is not the friend of the citizen.

But it also gave rise to a pretty decent movie in 1988 - Eight Men Out - by John Sayles, the guy who did Lone Star (the movie, not the steak house). He was smart enough to not cast Costner anywhere in the movie. He actually used people who can act (mostly).

My wife and I used to like Kevin Costner movies, but every time we've tried to go back and watch an old one again - we just tried it with Untouchables a week or two ago - we've both ended up looking at each other and saying something like "geez, this isn't very good is it?" or "gosh, he really can't act, can he?"
I still liked Bull Durham the last time I watched it but it's been 2-3 years now, and I'm almost afraid to try it again since it used to be one of my favorite movies. Oh, one we did just watch again recently that held up fairly well to us was No Way Out. But that's about the only one that has that we've noticed.

Good decision. :-) Yes, Connery was good, which surely didn't help Costner having to try and act on the same stage with him. We only made it thru the first 20-30 minutes this time around. We were between DVDs and there's no rental place within 15-20 miles of here so I DVR'd it off the dish, so it at least didn't cost anything to find out we couldn't stand it now.

Erin Moran - woof! Of course, I'm not surprised. Scuttlebutt had it that during the run of HD, she screwed everyone on the show except for Marion Ross, and that only because Ross didn't swing that way. Hell, even Gary Coleman looks better than she does.
With regard to Costner, I love The Untouchables, but I also thought he turned in a halfway decent performance in Thirteen Days, his movie about the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Anyway, thanks for the news, Gabe and Vic. Is it just me, or does it seem like it's taking longer and longer to get to Fridays these days? Here's a Shirley MacLaine story to kick off the weekend:
In 1962, Makeup artist Frank Westmore (of the famous Westmore makeup dynasty) had a problem when he found himself in Japan for the filming of My Geisha. He had to make MacLaine look Oriental, but he had forgotten the eye tabs used to achieve the effect. When he finally figured out a substitute, MacLaine demanded to know what it was before she'd let him put it on her.
Westmore hemmed and hawed a bit, then finally showed her an enormous condom. As he began cutting small pieces for eye tabs, MacLaine burst into laughter. "You bastard, that can't be yours!" Westmore acted insulted, insisting that the giant rubber was part of his custom-made stash, intended to holster his impressive anatomy.
The improvised tabs worked, so after a few hours of filming, Westmore left the set to take a piss. As he was walking down the hall, he heard footsteps behind him.
He stopped. So did the footsteps.
He started walking again. The footsteps followed right after him, into the men's room and right up to the urinal. As he unzipped, Westmore looked over his shoulder to see MacLaine standing at his side.
She peered downward for a moment, then looked at Westmore in disappointment. "I knew that rubber wasn't yours," she said, turning on her heel and stalking out.
And that's it for me. If any of the Horde happen to live in or near Iola, Kansas, today and tomorrow is the annual Buster Keaton Celebration, in advance of his October 4 birthday. If you go, grab me an XXL T-shirt, would you?
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

From nearly day one, I have had a strong feeling that this was possibly a botched kidnapping. Huma's association with the MB is dubious, at best. This could've been a cooked up plan to make TFG ride in on his magic cape to save the ambassador just in time for the election...and they could've gotten the blind sheik in trade. Win win for both sides. But it's hard to control savages and well, here we are. I suspect we'll never know if that's true or not, but given this administration, it is more than plausible.

The (Dems) have pretty much perfected their "winning" technique for an actual election tally difference of 3-5% as far as I can see. Once the differnce exceeds 5%, it gets hard real fast to fake the numbers. After all, there are only so many dead people and polls you can visit in one day, and final vote counts that exceed the actual number of registered voters by more that 5% tend to raise eyebrows (and questions).
I think another reason the dems like early voting is that it disperses the opportunities to tamper with the ballots over weeks rather than forcing them to do high intensity cheating on one or two days.

It's way, WAAAAY past time for Republicans to start arguing strongly against the idea that tax rate cuts must be "paid for."
You want to see deficits come down? Cut taxes. You don't even really have to do anything else, and the deficits will decrease.
We're beyond merely cutting taxes here, of course, because we also have to, as RMoney might say, "slim down government," but raising tax rates will not help the deficit problem.
We have to be ready to argue that every. single. time.
And then, Liberals will move to the "fairness" argument- and that one's actually much easier to win, because even the people making it don't believe it.

Here is a sad case in Charleston which should result in the lawyer being disbarred. A woman was shot by her estranged husband, who was on the run at the time. She was supposed to be under the protection of police. She is suing the police. The courts have long ago ruled that police cannot be sued for failure to provide protection.
Posted by: Vic at September 28, 2012 06:56 AM
That is generally true, but there are a few exceptions. The linked article notes:
“Evidence will show the Sheriff’s Office took complete control of the situation and negligently performed their duties and as a result Melissity Hayes has a bullet in her spine,” said her attorney, David Marvel.
He didn't choose those words by accident. Police may be liable when they have undertaken to specifically to protect YOU as opposed to the general job of protecting everybody. As an example, say police put you in a safe house. The cop protecting you goes out to have a smoke, leaving the door unlocked. Somebody walks in and shoots you. I think here the police would be liable as they have taken "complete control" of your safety. This might even extend to a police officer stationed in front of your house who runs off to buy cigarettes, for example. I don't think this case comes close, but it may not be utterly frivolous.
"A special relationship exists when the state assumes control over an individual sufficient to trigger an affirmative duty to provide protection to that individual (e.g., when the individual is a prisoner or involuntarily committed mental patient)." Uhlrig v. Harder, 64 F.3d 567 (10th. Cir. 1995),

I agree. I'm just saying I don't think the lawsuit is out-of-bound frivolous. For example, if the police had said, "We'll keep a squad car in front of your house 24/7," (which I have no reason to believe they would or did) but didn't do it, they MAY have assumed an "affirmative duty." But I do think it's a long shot, though I certainly don't know all the facts.

Should he? I don't know. I don't think he should do anything serious until after the first debate (I guess my prediction was wrong, it looks like it will happen). Romney won't want any theme he uses to be undermined by the debate.

Guess what dipshit? The socons you so despise are are half your party. You can't do shit without them and they really aren't gonna make you stop touching yourself anyway.

Many FisCons are Socially Conservative, but they are not SoCons per say. Their main concern is economics. The hard core Akin type SoCons are about 20%. If we purge them, we will get many Libertarian leaning Independents into the Republican Party. I will take that trade any day.
Besides most of the Hardcore SoCons are old and dying. Their time is up.

Stereotyping cuts both ways, and you need not look any further than the Ace(Holes) in Spades for ample evidence of that.

Well I'm raising as many as I can. Don't be so certain that trends always run one way.

By the way; the banana thing is disgusting.

Most Americans may oppose Abortion, but they are against makiung iut illegal. Many Pro Life people are OK with abortion in the case of rape or incest. Not everyone against abortion want to throw women in jail for doing that procedure.
Many people opposed to Gay Marriage don't hate gays. They don't want to throw Gays in jail or nin camps like the hardcore SoCons do.

"They don't want to throw Gays in jail or nin camps like the hardcore SoCons do"
Can you name a single non-Muslim who is in favor of something like that? When you start generalizing you should first be sure you can think of a single example.

Even that would have been ok I guess, if the banana was female.
And of age.

Even more evidence that the Syrian rebels are Al Qeada terrorists. As I have been saying all along, we have no dog in this fight. If we arm anyone arm both sides with chemical weapons.

Still a great opportunity for some payback on the Iranians, a nagging itch I've had since puberty. And the last bit means giving chemical weapons to the rebels. One side is loaded already.

How SoCons make Gays dispersal? What is the end game with Social Conservatism. How this wonderful religious Utopia be created?
I want answers. SoCons are never honest about their end game.

@ 210 The recovery has flagged and yet the country’s mood appears to be improving. Despite months of disappointing-to-dismal economic reports — capped by a Commerce Department release Thursday showing the economy had expanded at an annual pace of just 1.3 percent in the second quarter, barely above stall speed — a closely watched measure of consumer confidence surged to its highest level since February.
Because November's coming. Oh yes it is.
