— Ace This article is confusing on the cause of death: it suggests he died due to jumping out of his apartment window and falling to his death, and also that he was shot in the head.
Perhaps both? Well, he's dead. That the article agrees on.
The Al Qaeda fanatic who murdered seven people in south west France died after being shot in the head in a vicious gunfire battle after police stormed his apartment following a 32-hour siege. The Toulouse terrorist burst out of his flat's bathroom 'shooting insanely' at officers, before leaping to his death from a window.
In scenes reminiscent of a Hollywood film, Mohammad Merah, 23, unleashed round after round from automatic weapons after gas cannisters were thrown into his apartment and police stormed in.
Two officers were injured, including one who is still in a serious condition.
Did he have accomplices? Police are interested in a woman he was overheard speaking to.
The mystery woman is said to have been spotted talking to Merah from a train at the Gare de l’Est on Monday – just before he carried out an attack on a Jewish school.Intrigued by the conversation – which was about the killing of three soldiers - another passenger is said to have asked the mystery woman ‘Were you talking to the Toulouse killer?’
Investigators are taking the lead ‘very seriously’, according to police sources, because it fits in Merah’s telephone records, which have since been compiled by the police.
I like the Daily Mail's choice to call him a "serial killer." It's good to stress that these are not "revolutionaries" or Holy Warriors or whatever delusional gay-panic romantic claptrap they've convinced themselves of, but simply murderers.
Oh, and Drudge: I didn't notice this. It went right over my head.
Drudge's headline, in all caps, is:
MOHAMMAD IS DEAD
Tami points out that's a baiting double-meaning. Pretty ballsy.
Sarkozy: Islam Had Nothing To Do With This. Are you sure of that, buddy? I think it has something to do with it.
France has shown its indignation and grit but has not allowed anger to take over. The Muslim faith has nothing to do with the insane acts of this man. Before targeting Jewish children, he targeted other Muslims.
On the other hand, he's talking tough about cracking down on Jihadist websites and recruitment:
We must be implacable in defending our values. We will not allow this ideology to affect us.From now on, any person who habitually consults websites that advocate terrorism or that call for hatred and violence will be punished by the law.
France will not tolerate forced recruitment or ideological indoctrination on its soil.

“The police knew this individual was dangerous and radicalized. I complained to the police twice about Mohammed Merah and tried to follow up several times.”
The woman said that Merah made her 15-year-old son listen to songs, which he said were from the Koran, but these were actually calls to go to war.
Merah took her son to his home, where several sabers hung on the wall, to further indoctrinate him. He made him watch al-Qaeda videos of women being shot in the head and men being strangled to death, the mother recalled.

This is the same attitude that allowed Clinton and the unspeakable POS in the White House currently to avoid calling Islam what it really is: A revolutionary political movement hiding behind a bloodthirsty death cult.
We need to prove to the world that these people are being driven by religious and political ideology: that they are NOT simply murderers who misunderstood the basic tenets of their religion.
The problem is that these people understand their religion very, very well.

There have been plenty of such long standoffs in the US as well. As far as the cops knew he could've had the place wired with bombs or something.
Rushing in only to risk getting shot or blown up without trying to get him to surrender first wouldn't have been smart- he wasn't going anywhere and here were no hostages involved.

ItÂ’s times like this that I miss Breitbart the most.
He instinctively knew that what happened doesnÂ’t matter and what the facts are matters even less. The only thing that does matter is how this was reported.
A right wing extremist shot children because he was mad about immigration.
Those are the facts. They were reported so they have to be true. Out of the universe of people who absorbed the headline, only about 5% to 10% will note that additional information my lead one to believe this was a Islamic extremist, but most will retain the original story.
Breitbart would probably look into who was doing the speculation about the shooter being right wing and then embark on research to show what other lies were told by the same individuals. He would go after their credibility and livelihood.
I miss Breitbart.

Obviously law enforcement can (even in the US) order you to remove a face covering in order to determine your identity. And any private business that requires identification in order to perform a transaction can request you remove it, and deny you the transaction if you refuse.
But simply out in public? No I don't think the government has the right to tell you, you must keep your face uncovered at all times.

Once again, for the purpose of establishing identity, I believe the government may order you remove a face covering temporarily. That includes being pictured without a face covering on your state issued identification.

Have you noticed that while we in the US like to make fun of our Euro LEO brethren, they seemed to be much better shots than our police officers.
Example: a few years ago in the UK, the metro cops were tailing a terror suspect and they were made when he spotted them while in a subway station. The lead detective had authority to use lethal force to prevent escape so he fired only one shot that hit the suspect square in the head. Turned out, the suspect was not a terrorist at all, and not even Arab.
Now, this case where the French cops shoot him in the head as he's jumping out of a window. That's fucking aimbot territory right there!
Compare this to how the NYPD or LAPD operate. 1000 rounds fired, only 3 hit the target.

I like the fact that the ostensible reason I have heard for why French police had to lay seige to a whole street block and stand off against 1 wackjob muzzie for 2 days, 'suspending' and retreating multiple times from him, was because they wanted him alive for intel.
A few days and a few wounded police later it ends with him dead anyway.
These French people are so full of win. Have a frog leg, sparky. You deserve it.

Why are we upset about not hurrying? Taken alive he might have given up some useful intel and I'm pretty sure the French could still find some pre-trial terminal loophole in their prison system. Plus everybody gets a day and a half to move their car and fill up the fire trucks.

The soldiers he shot were Algerian - as in they were born in Algeria. Algeria is a predominately muslim country. Ergo.............. It would have very easy for this guy to have followed these soldiers and determined their faith quite easily. He shot these soldiers specifically because they were muslim and had joined the French army. Therefore, they were apostates - a mortal sin in Islam.
Now, unless you can prove he did not know they were muslim and he shot them for that specific reason - then STFU.
