Possibly some good news on the Chinese Kung Flu pandemic. New polypeptide could provide universal protection against coronaviruses
Researchers in the United States have developed an inhibitor of the spike protein found on the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that limits its formation in host human cells that would otherwise be the source of newly generated virions.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is the agent responsible for the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the spike protein is the main structure the virus relies on for host cell entry.

Importantly, the inhibitor was effective against the spike proteins of other coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-1 and Middle East respiratory syndrome CoV (MERS-CoV).

Furthermore, the researchers say the polypeptide inhibitor – called F1 – is expected to be effective against the spike proteins of almost any SARS-CoV-2 variants that may emerge in the future.

How does a company go about providing energy to the State of New York and New York City? Pretty, soon it will come down to unicorn farts. gas.
Indian Point nuclear reactor is located on the Hudson River 36 miles from New York City. The site, which is made up of two reactors, began producing power in the mid-1970s and had a 40 year operating license. It generated about 5% of the state’s total electricity needs or 25% of what New York City uses. So as its license was nearing expiration, the company sought a 20-year extension. That extension likely would have been approved but environmentalists, led Gov. Cuomo, stepped in and pushed back. In 2017, Cuomo announced he’d reached a deal to shut it down permanently:

The President of Entergy Wholesale Commodities, the company that owns and operates the site, said it spent $200 million fighting the state to get the renewals approved but in the end they gave in, partly because electricity produced from natural gas generators had become so cheap that nuclear was less competitive. But even four years ago there were concerns about how the state would replace the energy it was losing at Indian Point. Gov. Cuomo promised at the time that it would be replaced by renewable sources.

Jump forward four years and the last reactor at Indian Point will be shut down later this month. So where will the energy to power New York City come from? Not from renewable sources it turns out:

Tonight's long read is by Victor Davis Hanson. There isn't much to disagree with: 'Wealthy And Woke'
Ed Bastian made $17 million in 2019 as chief executive officer of Delta Airlines, Georgia’s largest employer. Bastian just blasted Georgia’s new voting law. He thinks it is racist to require the same sort of ID to vote that Delta requires for its passengers to check in.

Yet most Americans believe voting is a more sacred act than flying Delta and, moreover, may have noticed that Delta has partnerships with systemically racist China. Also, a recent Associated Press poll showed that 72 percent of Americans favor requiring photo ID to vote.

The most privileged CEOs of corporate America — those who sell us everything from soft drinks and sneakers to professional sports and social media — now jabber to America about its racism, sexism and other assorted sins.

The rules of cynical CEO censure are transparent.

First, the corporation never harangues unless it feels it has more to lose — whether by boycotts, protests or bad publicity — than it stands to gain in staying neutral and silent.

‘Orwellian’: Denver bar demands proof of COVID vaccination for indoor dining

A Denver bar clearly buys into the idea of vaccine passports as the establishment is requiring customers to show proof that they are vaccinated against the coronavirus before they can be seated.

Needless to say, the policy isn’t going over all that well with some customers.

Bar Max, which says on its website that it provides "craft cocktails and conversation,” recently reopened for indoor dining after offering a small to-go menu during much of the pandemic.

Sure it's filler material, but it's The ONT. You get nothing but the best filler here. Amirite?
Bodybuilder who is in a throuple with 2 sex dolls says that his partners have fallen in love with each other.

Yuri Tolochko is back at it again. After announcing that he had taken a second sex doll wife Lola, while his old sex doll wife Margo was in repair and that he is now in a throuple with Lola and another sex doll Luna, Tolochko has now revealed that his two sex doll partners have fallen in love.

The bodybuilder from Kazakhstan revealed the latter in an Instagram post where he explained that his dolls, Luna and Lola, were getting on pretty well and claimed that he spends time with them both together as well as separately.

And you thought you had issues.

More ONT filler. What's Poland Syndrome? It's not what you think.
A woman who was told she was a "late developer" during puberty was actually born with a rare condition which meant that she only grew one breast.

Becca Butcher, 23, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, suffers from Poland Syndrome, which means one breast is significantly smaller than the other as her right one is a D cup, while the left is an A cup.

Despite suffering horrible teasing at school, Butcher turned down breast surgery on the NHS, and has instead learnt to love her body as it is.
Now she hopes to inspire other women to speak up about the rare condition, which is believed to affect between one in 20,000 to one in 100,000.

Butcher says she first starting noticing the difference in her breasts when she hit puberty.

"I noticed that one of my breasts was bigger and might have needed a bra, but I thought there was no point getting one until the other one has grown," she explains.

I'm not sure if kbdabear has featured this syndrome previously.

First, Nissan doubles down on subprime lending. Now it’s willing to pay dealers more money when customers take out longer terms. This is the new plan Nissan has laid out for dealers, according to a report from Cars Direct.

Nissan is calling this the future of NMAC dealer compensation, referring to its finance arm, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation. In the plan, when customers finance their loans through NMAC Nissan will pay dealers 1 percent of the total amount financed.

But it gets better.

Cars Direct says that in the fine print you’ll learn dealers will get as much as $450 when customers go with 84-month financing. Nissan seems to be willing to steer people into financially precarious loans for the benefit of dealers’ profits. It’s not putting the customer first.

Easy come, easy go. Never count your chickens before they are hatched. A penny saved is a penny earned. Oh baby the cliches are just flowing. Better not repeat any of them to Bill Hwang.
Bill Hwang Had $20 Billion, Then Lost It All in Two Days
The fast rise and even faster fall of a trader who bet big with borrowed money.

Before he lost it all—all $20 billion—Bill Hwang was the greatest trader you’d never heard of.

Starting in 2013, he parlayed more than $200 million left over from his shuttered hedge fund into a mind-boggling fortune by betting on stocks. Had he folded his hand in early March and cashed in, Hwang, 57, would have stood out among the world’s billionaires. There are richer men and women, of course, but their money is mostly tied up in businesses, real estate, complex investments, sports teams, and artwork. Hwang’s $20 billion net worth was almost as liquid as a government stimulus check. And then, in two short days, it was gone.

Guess I shouldn't bitch about the hamsters.

Pentagon scientists working inside a secretive unit set up at the height of the Cold War have created a microchip to be inserted under the skin, which will detect COVID-19 infection, and a revolutionary filter that can remove the virus from the blood when attached to a dialysis machine.

The team at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) have been working for years on preventing and ending pandemics.

They assess the issues and come up with ingenious solutions, which at times appear more from a science fiction novel than a working laboratory.

Just what could go wrong?

Tech workers at The New York Times have formed a union under the NewsGuild of New York, and they are demanding voluntary recognition from the paper’s management. The new union, called the Tech Times Guild, represents more than 650 workers from the digital side of the company, including software engineers, designers, and data analysts.

Those employees are not included in the editorial union of The New York Times, which represents more than 3,000 reporters and media professionals at the newspaper and is also organized under NewsGuild. The editorial union has historically excluded employees on the digital side of the paper, even as the company has expanded into more ambitious data and digital work. As a result, the Tech Times Guild is seeking a separate bargaining unit, which would negotiate separately with the Times management.

"As of now, we face a number of challenges,” the Tech Times Guild said in a statement on Twitter, "including sudden or unexplained termination, opaque promotion processes, unpaid overtime, and underinvestment in diverse representation. Without a union, we lack the data or bargaining rights to address these issues.”

Bird cage liners just became more expensive.

Five of Tom Petty's guitars were stolen from a soundstage in Culver City, California, where Petty and his band, the Heartbreakers, were rehearsing for their upcoming worldwide tour. The stolen gear included a 1967 Blonde Rickenbacker, a 1967 Epiphone Sheridan, a 1965 Gibson SG TV Jr., a Fender Broadcaster and a Dusenberg Mike Campbell Model, which belonged to Campbell himself. Petty was offering a "no questions asked" reward bounty of $7,500 to anyone with information leading to the guitars' recovery. via thisdayinmusic.com

A representative of Dollar General, 3416 Montvale Road, Maryville, reported at 10:24 a.m. April 5 that two women tried to buy several gift cards with a counterfeit $1 million bill. One of the women said she received the $1 million bill in the mail from a church and that she was going to buy items for care packages for homeless people, an incident report states. The other woman said she was unaware of the bill, the report states. Both women were given a verbal no-trespass warning for the store.

While the prospect of an empty nest is bittersweet, most parents look forward to some uninterrupted couple time when their kids finally fly the coop. But for one California husband and wife, rather than a cozy retirement, they found themselves feathering their nest all over again—with seven adopted kids.

The odyssey began back in January 2019, as Pam Willis was scanning Facebook. She says a post titled ‘Seven Siblings in Need of Forever Home’ "hit her like a ton of bricks.”

The story revealed that after the children’s mother and father perished in a car accident a year earlier, the siblings had been placed in foster care. "In that instant, their sweet smiling faces jumped off of the screen and into my heart,” she posted to Instagram.

49 But too often it seems to make things harder, leaving us with fifty-button remote controls, digital cameras with hundreds of mysterious features and book-length manuals, and cars with dashboard systems worthy of the space shuttle. - James Surowiecki
This is a real modern problem. Once a company has all the "normal" features/buttons/etc it gets requests from smaller and smaller market segments to add more. And these smaller segments usually have an outsized voice in the media covering whatever industry it is.

So the company adds the feature that few of its users will ever want, in a prominent way, at the expense of the great majority's easy of use to make the vocal minority happy and get better press.

At some point the company should probably just STOP and either produce boutique versions of its products/software or just let other companies move into that space since it will not be profitable for them.

77 All of the crazy going on in the country is dependent on one thing--a dumbed-down education. From covid to climate change, we are being manipulated by fear and ignorance. Many highly intelligent people believe things that are clearly untrue. Climate change, if real, is a minor inconvenience. Estimates are that it will negatively affect the economy 50 years hence by about 2%. We will only be 98% as rich as we would be without the dire consequences they are predicting. So let's spend trillions. Similarly, with covid; there is little evidence that lockdowns or masks work, but they are accepted cant by millions of 'well-educated' liberals. None of this would be possible if the population was well educated in math, logic, and syllogistic reasoning.

102 Might be because Rural America is the last place on earth to have even a vestige of a high trust societal basis.

I think that's part of it - but for a shitty reason.  Rural America doesn't have a high population density, of course.  That's why we are rural.  But we also don't have a high wealth density.

Texas is seeing now, in real time, what happens when you generate a lot of wealth.  The Yankees and Westees come.  Where I live ?  We don't have great restaurants or fabulous job opportunities.  And now - I'm kinda' glad we don't.  It keeps a certain type of riff raff out.  I think, out here, we have a "high trust" ratio because we all have about the same stuff, more or less.  And nobody is so enthusiastic as to steal, for the most part.  We're all just kinda' satisfied.

On the edge of the tranny crap right now is the need to "address" the "discrimination" trannies face from heterosexual men/lesbians.

There is whining about it in the usual crazy leftwing corners of the internet, and I'd laugh, but that stuff becomes "common sense normal stuff" in 5 years or so on the average.

So ERCOT, the highly dysfunctional energy management and "Reliability" commission in Texas issued out Conservation Warnings today because while most of  Texas had their A/C on,  ERCOT was whining about a cold front coming in to Texas and the demand was outstripping supply.
No one learned a damned thing in February.
If ERCOT and the F'd up state of Texas can't even handle an open-window-weather day without critical power outages, there is no way in Hell they are going to make it this summer.

Willowed from the Quarantine thread:

Please forgive me, but I'm gonna throw in my $0.02 request for a bit of Pixy Misa formatting upgrading:

Prior to The Fire, when I hit "refresh" in a comment thread, everything I'd already read remained above the current comment, and everything new loaded under what showed on the screen.  Made it damn easy to just continue reading, from that point onward.

The "jump to bottom", means I have to scroll up and either "find" where I left off before the refresh, or make a point of having remembered which comment number I was on before executing said refresh.

Restoring the "remain at present comment number" function, would greatly smooth out reading a multi-hundred comment thread, especially one that keeps adding comments at a furious pace, such as this.

And that is the end of my $0.02 Pixy Misa formatting request.

(addendum), and THANK YOU, Pixy!  Grace under stress and fire, I'm impressed, appreciative and very much grateful for the work you do here.  Whadda we gotta do to get you to the TxMoMeet?

Only one mouth, for sure.

Balance is important, though. It's easier to carry 20 pounds in each hand than 15 pounds in one. I suppose if you grow up that way you get used to it, but I would think that would cause all kinds of other minor health issues. Or major ones, like scoliosis.

267    You can look up the details of Lucy and Star Trek. Remember Lucy and Desi started Desilu Productions, which became a big production company. Rodenberry and Lucy were friends. The story is that when Lucy first heard the name "Star Trek" she thought it was going to be a series about a travelling USO show or something. You know, stars going on a trek.
Anyway, NBC famously turned down the pilot, "The Cage", and it was Lucy who pushed for the second pilot and convinced NBC to give it a second chance.
Lucy sold Desilu some time around '67 or so, and with some merger became the Paramount Television.

All of the traditional controls are in the traditional places, and work in the traditional ways.  Most all of the Digital Magic occurs on the back of the camera, with myriad buttons n' such.  I've got one, and it's truly a great camera.

1: We need to stress that a lot of this hysteria is driven by this new media model and it's need for crisis to sell clicks and views. CNN at the top of the list would be happy to see cities burn every night.
2: I fear that the end goal of this defund police drive is to monitor all people and use social credit scores so that no one can commit crimes since they will be monitored 24/7 and unable to travel.

One of his points.  (about why hydroxy-chloroquine and now ivermectin are hardly heard of as cures/prophylactics)   You can't get a vaccine approved for diseases if there is an effective cure/treatment.   Who has an interest in the Moderna vaccine?   Why the CDC itself, especially Fauci.   "its having the fox guard the henhouse"
His 2nd point was vitamin D, vitamin D, vitamin D.  "the RDA rec is the bare minimum to stay alive,  for immune health in winter months when natural D production from your body won't happen if you live north of 35 degrees you should take 8-9 thousand IUs.    Fauci has mentioned he takes that much but no official recommendation.  (of course, have to have the market for his vaccine)

And COMountainMarie and others, Lucy was scary smart; in fact often far smarter than the network execs she had to deal with. It's especially humorous IMHO to look at publicity photos of her when various studios tried to make her a 'name' in the 1930s and 40s, as they tried to cast her as a femme fatale, but the sultry smokiness just isn't there in the pics.

As opposed to most of Ohio, anyway.   Fourth, and most important, about every other decade a hurricane rolls over the islands, leaving rubble, driftwood, bilgewater, and misery in its wake. No thanks, I'll take a chance on shoveling snow.

I don't mind a multiplicity of buttons, but each should be clearly marked as to its function. And they should be orhanized under some sort of hierarchy. Too few buttons means layer upon layer of menus, and that sucks, too.

342 Psycho.   He didn't say vitamin D would make you immune from covid.  But this doc says that not having enough vitamin D just generally increases the odds of getting more sick from almost any cold/flu bug and he gave some stats on people with severe deficiencies being high % of those that ended up in ICUs etc.
He is convinced that ivermectin is a great preventative and if you get  covid, an effective treatment.  And he stated that he was taking the hydroxy C.  as a preventative before he read the studies on ivermectin.  But Fauci/Moderna wouldn't make a fortune on the vaccine if the CDC had just had everyone take ivermectin to stop covid in its tracks.

I think D has a role in immune system robustness that's been suspected or understood for some time, it's not new, and as palerider said it's a question of a strong immune system, not immunity.  I think D can contribute to other unrelated good health outcomes too, especially in combination with a few other minerals and micro-nutrients.

I know people who supplemented D in winter time long before C19 came around, and they did it specifically for immune system strength.

355 I still used win 3.1
It worked and I used DOS anyway most of the time which worked fine it just took some memorization and learning. I was (yes was, I've lost most of my skills) a programmer making little programs to solve problems in our billing/quality control/shipping dept. We were a small DoD supplier and those contracts are very specific about paper work and how a part is packaged and labeled.
I didn't get win xp until after it had been out about years. so when they came out with an upgrade I was interested but I felt that XP was there first windows that was stable as a rock. I only got XP thru buying a new computer which I only did because I wanted to play the new games and get a faster experience and XP came with the computer.
When MS completely tossed out their user interface (I even had the book that was written for programmers by MS for when they wrote programs and told them what the best practices were and they violated their own rules) I said I'm not paying that kind of money just to get a screwed up interface.
I still have XP but I have Linux dual boot on that machine cause I had to have a newer browser.
I did eventually buy a win 10 laptop but that's my backup. I hardly use it.
I thought all web pages automatically when refreshed loaded up the current page where you last left off without any programming or script.

356 My computer upgrades have neatly corresponded with Microsoft's most universally-hated products, so my last two OS's have been 8.1 and Vista.

I never noticed any particular problems with either, but I don't exactly push the envelope. Well, the Weather app on 8.1 says it's out of date if you look at it for longer than 10 seconds, and then also cannot be upgraded. That's a little bizarre. But I don't use any of the Win8-specific interface if I can at all help it.

418 Robert, I think we all assume you know we are not financial advisers here.  Medical, romantic relationships, nuclear strategy - sure, we do that here. But financial planning is something else.

Thing is, the answer to your question depends more on you and your situation (amounts, timelines) and goals than on anything else.  Without those, it's literally impossible to even provide general advice.

As publius said, what's called "capital preservation" (not losing value) may be a good approach right now.   The catastrophic end of the Trump era almost certainly means the end of what was one of the best economies since the war.  Which will affect everyone (well, most) in the longer run.  Shorter run, with the Fed seemingly unhindered by any of the old guidelines, it seems the stock market can be kept warm to hot almost no matter the real-world situation.

Define your resources, timeline, risk tolerance, and goals (for yourself, not for us here), then probably look to some low-cost/conservative mutual funds to start, while you study the question more.  No crime in staying in cash until you feel confident putting it in something else.

434 Me if I had extra money to invest I'd buy stuff that has physical presence.
No digital investments cause if things go way south those can disappear in a heart beat as we've just experienced.
I would buy stuff like canned food, gold, silver, copper, water, water containers, water filtration, solar stills, solar panels, water pumps for use in lo tech areas.
But then you were asking for an investment to make money. I foresee that prices will be going up on a lot of stuff. This is even if nothing else drastic happens because Biden and his handlers will blow up the economy.
Food prices were already rising before Trump left. Gasoline immediately rose after Biden was selected.
One thing regardless try to invest in something that returns an actual physical item and not a certificate of ownership. Gold and silver are two.
Forget digital coinage that's a fools game. Easy to get into. Hard to get out of. And expensive either way.
Don't leave your money in a bank account. Digital bits again.
But then I'm an optimistic pessimist. I'm happily sure that things are going to get worse.

435   Here's the 202 page from oldphoneworks.com, one of the (many) restored phone outfits:
https://www.oldphoneworks.com/202-classics/

Back in the 202 days, all the guts wouldn't fit in that small unit. It was just the dial, hookswitch and the receiver. The ringer and network was in a separate larger box, called a "subset" (for subscriber set) that usually mounted on the baseboard.
They can and do fit newer parts all in the shell of the the 202 and can get everything but a ringer. If you get one like that, of course, you have a sort of Franken-phone that never really existed.
It's possible to get a real, restored old style 202 and subset, but we're talking over a $1K.

Colored phones were in demand, and they had they idea of reissuing the 202 in some newer, jazzier colors and styles.

1.  I'm sorry to hear that, seriously.
2.  You and Ronald Reagan and I are in 100% agreement.
3.  In addition to ammo, I have a Berkey water filter, adding more canned and freeze dried food, hand tools, and other things that will keep me ahead of the masses (mostly Lefties) who can't comprehend that collapse can happen here, too, just like anywhere else in history where the leaders started to act completely ignorant and greedy.
4. Buy extra cases of good hard liquor now to store for both barter, and if you desire, to be passed out drunk when the bad people finally make it to your block.
I remember a story, vaguely, from at least 20 years ago.  A Bosnian man walked by a small home, it's owner, an older man, drunk and drinking the finest red wine he had in his cellar.  The word was the Serbians were marching and destroying everything and everyone in their path.  They were expected to reach the small house the next day.  The man asked the homeowner why he was drinking his finest wine.    "Because tomorrow never comes, and I won't let those bastards drink my finest."
Yeah, Miklos, as a grayhair who always enjoyed reading about history, I relate to that small home owner.  But when talking about current times,  I will take down a lot more of them, than they can of me.     Progda, the FBI, urban police, Democrat politicians, GOPe UniParty politicians.   All traitors to the US Constitution and what it stands for.    I've made my peace, and I'm ready to rock and roll, and not in the Jimi Hendrix kind of way.

453 "First, the corporation never harangues unless it feels it has more to lose — whether by boycotts, protests or bad publicity — than it stands to gain in staying neutral and silent."
VDH is massively, stupendously wrong here.  This is not true, and has not been true even as a general statement in a long time - and this error is a large part of how we find ourselves where we are today.  Corporations are led by people, and those people are perfectly capable of outliving the corporation and continuing to bang gaggles of 20 year olds on their yachts courtesy of the influence this bullshit is gaining them.
This is the flip side of the Soviets insisting that western capitalists will sell them the rope they hang us with: it is western capitalists insisting that western socialists will choose not to hang us so as not to hurt their bottom line.  This is madness, as is dismissing the progs' behavior as madness when they're clearly benefiting greatly, and personally, from where this is all going.
Not going to beat around the bush; modern western leftism, in the form of "progressivism", is simply better adapted to affecting the changes it wants to see over the long term than anything opposing it.  And its eastern cousins were much better at taking a long perspective and making the necessary investments to support those efforts, not because they were comrades in arms, but because the prog methods inoxerably work by destroying things our foreign adversaries wanted to see destroyed.

The Left takeover of American culture has been going on for 2 full generations now.  First, they took over the Universities and public urban schools, to own the message to the children.  As the children grew into adults, they were too stupid to understand the truth from a lie.  And they were trained like seals to bark whenever Progda told them to bark.   Now, much of corporate America has succumbed to modern Marxist process.   Agree, or you are fired, comrade!

And now, we have most people under 40 not having a clue what is happening in government and the press, namely, one long clusterf**k of lies, censorship, and false truths.    They have been lied to all their lives, so don't be too hard on them.  Even when they come to your door because you dare say something against the official narrative.   Or didn't you notice what the FBI is doing to those citizens who dared assemble together to peacefully protest their election being brazenly stolen?

479 CoMM,
I never said it was going to be easy, or even successful.   And no Andrew, no Rush, no Trump in office.
I can only be true to my own beliefs.  The ones that I learned in school, taught by real Americans who lived through WWII to see the carnage.
We have to work with the hand we are dealt.   So be it.

481    Hmmph, that got me interested in the history of WordPefect. WP rules the word processor market in the DOS days. It was king. And it's still going. The core of diehard WP fans are law offices and govt. offices. The DoJ is apparently a big WP superfan.
Anyway, what happened to WP? Windows. They were very late in getting a Windows version out, the first attempt being some buggy, unstable failure. By the time they got a stable version out, Word for Windows had already taken hold.
And then, as alleged (and probably true) in a lawsuit (Novell v. MS), Microsoft sabotaged Word Perfect's 32-bit version attempt. You can look up the details of how they claimed MS did that.

488 I did purchase Word a couple of years ago because converting over was a pain and I threw in the towel.  I spent days doing deep editing and learning how to adjust everything.  It's definitely a challenge, and still comes up a bit short compared to WP, but now all my pleading paper text lines match up with the line numbers, my margins are correct, and I don't have dangling lines or unusual spacings except in one instance that's just too hard for me to figure out for very little return.

489 485 LCD Understood. It just seems to me that if the right and strong leader came along,  that person could galvanize a movement.
-------------
And that happened.  Most of the infrastructure management was hopelessly corrupted by their graft goodies.  They so wanted to protect their graft machine that they destroyed a mostly free election, and the grifters in power covered up for the massive vote theft.
And here we are.  What is ironic is that their  graft stands a bigger chance than ever of going away.  Trump tried to increase the size of the pie, so everyone got a bigger piece.  Trump helped the middle class and also helped the grifters gain more graft.   Not any more, the graft is now crumbling and the grifters stand a greater chance than ever of losing their payola.
America is quickly becoming a horrible game of musical chairs.  Except, a chair isn't a game, it is one's life.    Watch the music stop, in places like Minneapolis, for example.

494 Back in the late 60s early 70s the experts all said we (the US) were going to switch to the metric system.
Well 50 years later we kinda did and kinda didn't.
There's stuff we buy and can fix that's metric and stuff we buy and fix that's SAE (or as we call it STANDARD or NORMAL).
The people in the US just said; "ain't no ways we're gonna use that frenchy way of measurin' stuff."
France only came up with the metric system (which is just as arbitrary as the English) to fvck with the English. As they always do.
France is like the Democrats. They live to screw things up for the rest of the world and then get snide and smirky  about it.
