Vacation!

Well, I started to just lose my mind this week and asked my beloved cobloggers if there was any way they could handle the site for a week. They kindly told me they could.

Jammie Wearing Fool, Ben Howe, and even Damned Dirty RINO will be pitching in too. Plus the Weekend Bloggers, and plus the Open Bloggers.

But mostly it's going to be the cobs.

When you have a "business" like this, you never really feel comfortable going on vacation. I'm sure business owners get that. But I find myself more and more taking "unofficial, undeclared vacations," phoning it in, working short hours, and so on.

Which is all the drawback of a real vacation (in as much as I'm not doing good work) with none of the benefit of one (in as much I'm still pretending to work).

So, I figure, I need a break, and it's been a long time since I had one, so. I'm on vacation.

38 I think this is a good week to take one. There won't be any actual news and most of it will be people acting very very stupidly. Lots of stress for little payoff.

I got an email from a German graduate student regarding some communication about some information for funding and he said, "I won't be able to answer email because I'll be on holiday for the next three weeks."

First, I haven't been on a vacation in 20 years, if you don't count Sunday afternoons or the few minutes I read AoSHQ.

Second, I wouldn't dare not be incommunicado. Even in Europe, I checked email every time I could because my phone was useless.

Thing is, he's not a fundamentally lazy graduate student, but that's the way they are. We really don't want to be like that.

Ace, I hope you planned the vacation well in advance. The anticipation is a significant part of the benefit. I bought tickets to Las Vegas in October, I'm already looking forward to it, and all the sh!t between now and then will be a bit easier to take. Everyday life it's what it is, so make it better be giving yourself something to anticipate, and get the stuff you dread out of the way quickly. Works for me.

Have a great time and come back full of p!ss and vinegar. That's actually a good thing where I come from.
