Various Election Links/Open Thread
— Slublog

The other thread is getting a bit long. Also, some reading material:

Commentary: editors change poll results
Jim Geraghty has updates for you.
This is a damn outrage.
Yup, Brad Pitt ruined "World War Z"
EMERGENCY PUPPY
The Corner is updating.
A great NY Post front page.

Also, again, soon we will see the media going nuts over "exit polling." Ignore them.

[Update - Andy]: Gabe pulled up the election night liveblog thread from 2008 and sent it around to the cobs if you're in the mood for a walk down bad memory lane. On the upside, it looks like everyone was pretty well inebriated before it even started.

Will there be a liveblog tonight? Why, yes. Yes, there will.

Some major blatant voter fraud out there today. My guess is it's the tip of a dangerously large iceberg.

Where are the "conservative" pundits on this? Are they all continuing along the path of "fairness," and "not making waves" and all the other Tepid Air bullshit? I'm sure they will all politely golf clap and proclaim their "support" when/if Mitt winds in spite of them....

I woke up t a very heavy rain today which lasted until almost lunch.

If anyone believes they rounded up 5k Jax residents, to volunteer for Obama, in less than 24 hours, and in the rain, they are kidding themselves.

32 Middle Cheese: GOP Counties Turned Out for Early Voting By Jim Geraghty November 6, 2012 10:57 A.M. Comments0 Middle Cheese checks in: Just a brief report from the Big Cheeses at Team Romney about Ohio early/absentee voting: Obama is under-performing in Kerry-Obama counties, and Republicans are outperforming in McCain 08 counties. As of yesterday, in swing Hamilton County, there are 1,000 fewer Democrat and 800 more GOP early/absentee votes than at this point in 08. Ohio Republicans will turn out. But the key to a Romney victory in OH will be independent voters, who favor Romney by double-digits over Obama in 21 of the last 24 public opinion polls.

OMG: I googled pudding shortage on a hunch and found this:
"Of the nursing homes we studied, less than a quarter had plans in place specifically to deal with pudding shortages," lead researcher Everett Cosby, chief of the section of pudding epidemiology at Kraft Foods' Chicago research and development laboratory, explained. "That leaves nearly 2.5 million elderly citizens at risk of receiving less than the recommended daily allowance of pudding, and that is unacceptable in a high risk population that is prone to pudding deficiency related health concerns."According to Cosby, the effect of a pudding shortage on this population should not be taken lightly.
"If nursing homes are to be called upon to serve as a source of care, and pudding, for vulnerable citizens with nowhere else to turn, the impact of a widespread pudding supply breakdown could be catastrophic." Kraft Foods Inc. is calling for congress to enact legislation that will ensure that nursing home residents receive a steady supply of pudding in the event of any necessary pudding rationing.

110 Just got back from voting here in sunny south MS. The line took about 45 minutes; it was about the same in 2008. The surprising thing to me was the almost utter lack of signs this year -- in 2010, there were 100s. On my 10 minute drive to the polls, I saw 7 total none of which were for TFG.

I'm sad to report that the 2 voters directly in front of me had their ballots marked for Balrog Odor. Don't worry though, our county in 2008 went about 70% for McCain. Though secrecy folders were available no one seemed to be using them.

Some anecdotal evidence for you.

I live in Michigan 11 and it is solidly republican ( think McCotter ) and my polling station is smack dab in the middle of the highest R concentration.

The Turnout is amazing! The line was the longest I have seen ever, in the last 20+ years of elections here. Very motivated voters in line, patient and cheerful. As I chatted with the recording clerk, ( a neighbor ) she confirmed it, the count was way up over 2008. And this was at 11:30AM, after I waited about 1/2 hour.

Similar story from my daughter, a Romneyette, at her polling spot in an adjoining precinct.

I sure HOPE this is a sign of CHANGE.

So why the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November: --

In 1845, the United States was largely an agrarian society. Farmers often needed a full day to travel by horse-drawn vehicles to the county seat to vote. Tuesday was established as election day because it did not interfere with the Biblical Sabbath or with market day, which was on Wednesday in many towns.  November was the time of the year after the harvest and before the dismal winter weather set in.

278 Just checked to local turnout numbers for my area of Virginia. Roanoke City is down 33% from 2008. Roanoke County down 20%. Roanoke City is a huge Dem voting area. Roanoke County is a GOP county, but had a huge uptick in Obama voters in 08, so that is where the county drop off is.

My precinct was the heaviest GOP precinct in Roanoke City in 08, and its vote was down only 3% from 08.

Looking good, and the local rag is also saying these numbers are troubling for the Dems.

281 Taking a lunch break from poll watching in MI.  Turnout is moderate I think, which is good since this is an urban/college district (75+% for Obama in 0 .  Here's hoping...

The rapid response in Philly is excellent news.I think it was at the Campaign Spot where I read that Philly county turnout increases every single year despite its population being steady.  If Team Romney can keep the fraud to a minimum there, the rest of the state will carry us to victory.  And from a couple questions I had early on in the poll watching, it looks like the Romney Rapid Response team is very on the ball.

One of the key counties Geraghty mentioned was my county, Henrico in VA. It used to be an enormously Republican area but it went pretty easy to Obama in '08 as more rich liberal assholes moved in from the Northeast over the years.  Judging from what I've been seeing locally, I don't think it'll ever be an automatic GOP county again but I think Romney's in good shape here.  Had several AFP and Romney canvassers hit our house, and none at all from the enemy camp.  RR definitely has the lawn sign edge around the West End, too.  Plus I don't think the mostly black vote of eastern Henrico will turn out in anything like the massive droves of 2008.  Cross your fingers.

Two things I want for my US brethren: 1) A clear Romney victory. 2) If that comes to pass, a blanket one-night liquour licence for Chik-Fil-A stores everywhere. Because nothing would rub it in Obama's face than people not only drinking to his defeat but doing it on those premises. And remember, if you don't get it, that's four years you can spend crucifying Obama on the Internet and elsewhere while you bring Benghazi and everything else to light. Sure, he's almost run the clock down on this poll, but it won't go away. And if he wins, he's got another four years of knowing that it will all come to light. Oh sinner man, where you gonna run to?
