— Ace One chant I don't hear here, but which I read was chanted, was "Five more months! Five more months!"
The primary catcalls seem to be "Where are the jobs?" and "So-Lyyyyn-dra, So-Lyyyn-dra!"
I've asked @buzzfeedben and @buzzfeedandrew to craft a consistent style guide on when it's "heckling" or "protesting" (good words) and when it's "disrupting" or "shouting down." Don't be hard on them, though, because @buzzfeedandrew actually noted the point.
I think we're going to see a lot of this, from both sides. Hold the media's feet to the fire on its terminology -- "disrupt" suggests a crime (or a near-crime; sounds like disorderly person, sounds like assailing someone's right to speak) whereas "heckling" is something everyone can enjoy at a hapless buffoon's expense.
And "protesting" is of course positive.
As the campaign season goes on, we'll see the left's disruptions consistently described as "protests" and the right's counter-disruptions described as they were in the Town Hall protests -- thuggish, possibly racist attacks on America itself.
Don't let them do it. Insist they craft a style guidance on the terminology and stick to it, consistently, and I don't mean "consistently positive when the left is disruptive, and consistently negative when the right acts up."

FWIW, it's fine to me if they start restricting campaign events. They were stupid not to in the first place. Firstly, they'll have tons of empty rooms (whoops! Already there!).
Secondly, I've always assumed most campaign events were really hand picked crowds. I guess when Palin was in town after the VP debate anyone could come, but it wasn't well advertised and Biden was across town at his own event (so we only had one Code Pink disruption and the crowd took care of it.)
But as far as "Huge High profile rallies!" I just assumed you'd want to ensure this didn't happen.
Posted by: tsrblke at May 31, 2012 11:44 AM (22rSN)
Additionally, the right must utilize guerrilla media tactics to bring any attention possible to issues that the MFM would rather ignore (Which is why Romney was smart in craftily dragging the media out to Solyndra today without first tipping them off).
Sure the media is going to attempt to punish us for taking advantage of them, but they've already passed the limits of covert bias so what more can they do without losing the last credibility they have left?

To have an effective campaign, you can't just have one pretty face, you have to have lots of them. SCOAMT got off easy last time because a) McCain wouldn't actually run against him and b) the Media was so far in the tank he could fake it with fewer spokespersons.
Now, though, they're not running against McCain. They're not even really running against Romney- though he seems to be picking up on the tactics quickly. They're running against Breitbart. Because of that, they have to have more people out in front of the cameras- but he's burned so many bridges, and thrown so many people under the bus that they've got to be running out of people willing to go and do that for him.

You'd actually need to be a bit more elaborate. Since each time those signs go up they would get pulled down and the person removed. So you need to designate each person as "Sign holder #" So once one is removed the next one goes up. You also need the signs to either match the standard Obama signs to begin with or at least be too varied to identify before the real message gets removed.

Yeah, but this was a presser/photo op. You don't let those backfire frankly. Hell you hire pretty actors if you have to. I thought they ran a better campaign than this in 2008 (or was McCain's just so bad by comparision...)

That's the thing. I don't think they actually did. I think a combination of McCain's incompetence and the Media fully pulling for Obama made it look like he was better than he was.
We remember him as a good campaigner because that was the myth- not because it was the truth. Good campaigners don't say things like "punished with a baby." They don't say things like "I think, at some point, you've made enough money." Those two alone should have doomed him.
Instead, most people never heard the first, and by the time they heard the second, McCain had pretty well already killed his chances.

One of my favorite goofs was whoever it was who went around and asked people if they believed Obama was a Keynesian. Oh the outrage and the huffing and the how dare you doubt where he was born. Then they showed the one guy who actually gave a pretty good answer discussing the difference between Keynesian and supply side economics. The woman he was with was all "Oh! It's the same lie that the Dems already tried to push. They get away with that number because they claim that the 2009 budget was signed by Bush (it wasn't, the 2009 budget wasn't passed until Obama was president), and they leave out the fact that Porkulus was added straight to the baseline.

Well "Photo-op" may have been the wrong turn of phrase. "Propaganda Photo opportunity" for later advertising and hyping the base was what I was going for.
Had it gone well, you'd have seen the photo of Axelrod presiding over the crowd on every left leaning talking point website everywhere (and the official campaign ones.) Romney managed to steal his thunder.

Today's Romney protest reminds me of the "Brooks Brothers protest" at the Broward County registrar's office during the 2000 recount. All the journos snickered about it, but it caught the Democrats flatfooted because they had never seen Republicans actually prostesting and thought they would have that tactic all to themselves. It seriously unnerved them. Later, the Freeper's daily protests outside of Al Gore's house in DC further unnerved the Dems. I really believe that one reason there wasn;t a general uprising after the SCOTUS gave the election to Bush was that all those protests and campaign-style tactics by the Bush forces left people thinking that the Democrats may truly have been trying to steal that election.
How many people thought that Romney would never get a group of people enthusiastic enough about him to stage a protest? Even if they were all paid staffers, the low-information voter sees it and says, "yeah, this guy is popular with a lot of people and it seems that plenty of folks in his home state like him and think he did a good job as Governor. And that guy talking for Obama looks like Hitler and talks like a moron."
This shit works. We have to do it. The other side never expects it, it unnerves them, and it amuses the journos covering the campaign which builds goodwill with them.

"The sad part. As big a scumbag as Edwards is, he probably would have been a better President than the commie in the White House right now. "
John Edwards wouldn't have been president for long. Hurricane Rielle would have still made landfall, just after the win. Possibly around the time of Liz's death, and all the Country in Mourning stuff. Major scandal, leading to a resignation. Nothing would have actually gotten done in the meantime, except MAYBE Porkulus. Maybe.
Whoever Edwards would've picked as his VP (assuming it would not have been Obama) would have been a better President than the commie now, though. I agree entirely.
