Romeny 50-46 in... New Hampshire, Per ARG
— Ace Well, that's before Biden's awesome debate performance moves the polls.
Sarcasm. No, it's not very funny. But I tried.
Slightly.
Maybe a little less than that.
But enough about me, let's talk about a poll.
Now before you bitchez complain, I just dropped a gen-u-ine serious news story. So get off my nuts.
Mitt Romney has taken a commanding 7-point lead over President Barack Obama in another Virginia poll.According to a McLaughlin & Associates poll that had an R+.02 sample, Romney leads Obama in Virginia 51%-44%.
Among independents, Romney beats Obama by 11 points, 50%-39%.
Rasmussen will be posting VA numbers later.
In Florida (not VA), Rasmussen has it 51-47 (Romney winning), so it seems like two of our must-haves are moving our way. That Rasmussen poll confirms the Mason-Dixon/Tampa Bay Times one yesterday, showing Romney ahead (but by an even larger lead, seven points).
So you will understand why Democrats are so insistent on claiming Senator Clownfart totally rilly won the debate!!11eleventy!
CAC passed a fun little poll on that to me, too, but I'm holding that for now, because I'm spacing my poll-posts out. 'Cuz I'm takin' a half-day, bitchez.
(BTW, the new season of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia debuted last night. I didn't warn you because I didn't know myself; I caught the last half of the 2am repeat. But I started watching old episodes recently, so everything with me is "bitchez.")
Monte Carlo Simulations: @seanmdav ran some simulations (trial runs) to determine the likelihood of victory based on current poll numbers in swing states.
Note this chart is the likelihood of winning or losing.
But also note that Ohio continues to be a real prick. So's Virginia, actually. Even after poll movement, Obama is still narrowly, narrowly favored.
More! ARG finds...
Florida: Romney 49, Obama 46
New Hampshire: Romney 50, Obama 46
New Hampshire? For real?
That's a neat little bonus.
Rasmussen Preview: CAC says Rasmussen will post Virginia Romney 49, Obama 47 when they publish later.
Plus ME2. Maine allocates two of its Electoral votes according to the winner of its two districts. Maine 2, the more Republican district, leans in Romney's favor, by five points.
That's another EV.

The polls I've seen of independents and/or voters (i.e. not online polls):
CBS - Biden win (15-20 points)
CNBC - Ryan win (15-20 points)
CNN - Ryan but within MOE, and Tied (RV and Indies for those results)
...
You call that a tie, or a wash, or "no movement"... not "WOOHOO Biden stomped him". This won't tie up the news cycle, I don't see it being "newsy" enough to get viewers.

I live in Fairfax. I haven't seen any signs at all for either candidate. Since I'm fairly confident Obama will win NoVa, I think that's a positive for Romney/Ryan. If Obama's NoVa turnout is depressed, the impact can be marginalized.

When one side is making a play for the middle and the other is making a spectacle for the base, which side do you suppose knows they are winning?
I didn't stick around long enough but, did CNN interview their undecideds later?
What did they say?
It couldn't have been good at all.
I do remember the one Fox undecided saying he was a buffoon.
If you'll recall, Gore's sighs and Kerry's "global test" didn't hurt right away, they festered a few days and then fatally wounded both campaigns.
Posted by: RoyalOil at October 12, 2012 07:05 AM (imtbm)
I think the best analogy for this debate I can come up with is it was a street fight. IÂ’m sure they tried to prepare Ryan for it, and he came in with a game plan. But, before he could even get off the first swing, Biden threw sand in his eyes and kicked him in the dick.
ThatÂ’s what Joe does. He is a dirty fighter, and he has been doing it for a long time. I actually think Ryan did a great job of staying clear of it for most of the time, because he wasnÂ’t going to win that fight. Biden has been doing this kind of thing for a long time.
But, Ryan wasnÂ’t hurt by any of it. Neither was Romney. Everyone knows Ryan is a smart, thoughtful guy. No one will think he is dumb because Joe was laughing at him. That wonÂ’t stick.
Only ObamaÂ’s base will be fired up by what happened. And even that will fade, soon.

I think I was wrong. The only people who will appreciate Biden's obnoxious performance are those who were already deeply and irrevocably committed to voting for Obama/Biden. It's more than an educated guess to say that Independents/Undecideds were completely put off by Biden - especially women.
Look for the wave of Independents/Undecided that was already moving to Romney/Ryan (see the Florida polls which went from O +11 to R +13) increase, and the female gender cap to close, if not reverse.

He who controls the I-4 Corridor controls the universe!
I've been seeing more and more R and R signs around the neighborhood here. And I've been talking to my leftie music buds, most of whom voted for TFG in '08 against my sage advice to them. Nearly every one of them has lost their jobs since, many have lost their homes, and the few that still have jobs are very nervous.
I predicted that FL would turn bright red, especially after the Great Blowout of '010. It's nice to be right once in a while. And I'm going to predict that we'll see something of a Chick-Fil-A Revolution in a few weeks the likes of which haven't been seen in a long time. It will be a smackdown, a repudiation, an ass-whuppin' of near-Biblical proportions, one that will set back the Dims for a few years at least.

The number of Romney/Ryan signs and bumperstickers far outnumber the McCain/Palin signs and bumperstickers. Not as many Obama signs as in 2008.

That's an excellent point. Biden employed this bombastic strategy for a reason. It was a choice (he's capable of controlling himself - as he did against Palin) not a forgone conclusion.
If you attribute logic and reason to this choice (maybe unwisely with this crew), then it could have only been made because Obama/Biden know, through their own polling, that they are in very real trouble with their base.
It's like Obama/Biden are still trying to secure their pit crew, while Romney/Ryan are out on the track, searching for Independents and Undecideds, having already secured their base.

This morning, they are waking up to one hell of a hangover.
Last night: They were buying rounds, challenging everyone to an arm wrestling match, kept trying to tell us about that time in high school and wanting to plan a trip to Mexico.
This morning, their credit card just got declined for cigs, they're out of coffee, everyone is ignoring their texts and a construction crew just started jackhammering out the sidewalk out front.
In a few days, the girl they were hitting on last night will see them coming and quickly turn the other way.
Maybe a friend will tell them how big an ass they were last night. But probably not, because Uncle Joe dropped off a whole case of his Sour Mash Whiskey.

Speaking for Oiho, we aren't pricks.
Ohio (like Missouri) is a good cross-section of the entire populace of the country. Not one huge urban area (like Chicago, New York City or LA) but a lot of 'urban' voters.
A lot of rural voters.
Country western types. Factory guys. Immigrants. Academics. Long time Americans (my mother's ancestors came to Ohio 200 years ago), descendents of recent immigrants (my wife's grandfather was born in Italy at the turn of the 20th century). Veterans, Leftists, bad drivers, dogs and cats living together.
It's no surprise that the polls have the vote as "close". But it is probably not quite as close as the pollsters divine it.
Romney - Ryan win Ohio by 125k - 175k votes (out of 5.5M - 6M cast) , come Election Day.

I do not care if it was a nervous tic, or a strategy, I do not understand how Biden laughed about Benghazi. At. All.

I don't know what was more offensive, the maniacle laughing or the crocodile tear act that interspersed the manaicle laughing.

So, um, Mr. Fur, when you leave us for your siesta, howzabout a music thread? You can blame me, since I start celebrating my birthday around midnight tonight at a gig (it's tomorrow).
And we should have a few reasons to be cautiously optimistic, given the events of the past couple of weeks. Not cocky, but I do have warm feelings in my swimsuit area. Oh wait, that's something else...
Pudding is at the ready, I've almost poked enough holes in the cap of the Valu-Rite bottle (it welded itself to the plastic bottle part, again) to get it to pour, and I feel the overwhelming urge to shave LauraW's hump.
Do you feel like I do?

Ohio is not "like" Missouri in a lot of ways, but the two states both have a good cross-section of the populace voting in those states.
They are 'bellweather' states.
And Iowa is full of feed lots, corn and ethanol grubbers.
Except the college towns like Ames that are full of academic leftists.

I honestly don't know. Seems Teh Won is up in the polls, but the enthusiasm for him is down. I'm in a blue college town, and TFG signs outnumber R-R signs 7-1.
But in 2008 they outnumbered McCain signs 10-1. Rural areas are as red as Texas, but not many people there. Western Iowa is GOP, Eastern is Dem, Eastern has more people. It can go so many ways here, it's truly split. Indiana or Ohio we are not.

But if you do the work, you will discover, as I did, that Obama has a slight but solid lead in both the state polls and the national polls.
What is vital to the process is a strict impartiality, and that's why I work for the New York Times!

One thing that is really annoying about northern Virginia is that all these hipsters who flocked into DC to work for Obama and all the ancillary liberal groups that support him moved in to NoVa. Why? Because its TAXES ARE LOWER than DC or Maryland. Its zoning laws are not as draconian, so lots of new apartments and cheap condos have been built there. Because there are hip neighborhoods like Clarendon that used to be decrepit but were saved by Vietnamese immigrants with pluck and hard work, and are now filled with hip boutiques and restaurants that are thriving because...TAXES ON SMALL BUSINESSES ARE LOW in Virginia!
And none of these jackholes will see a bit of irony in voting for Obama.

Ain't nuthin' wrong with that. But it should be noted that properly prepared Southern tea doesn't need sugar.

Funny thing. My lab has a high influx of new postdocs. Many of them decide they want to live in DC for that vibrant urban experience. Very few of them last a year there, and yes, they then move to Alexandria.

Missouri is as sure a bet for the R Presidential candidate as any other state these days, although the votes are always closer than some other places.
What you can also count on from Missouri is they'll split the ticket. So you've got a nitwit D Governor who is almost certainly going to be reelected. You have a nitwit Senator who is likely going to be reelected because they Rs nominated an even bigger nitwit.
And given the fact that the state has its two largest (read solid blue) cities on opposite sides, with everything in between being solidly red, you could accurately call the state bipolar, in more than one sense.

Our state senator introduced a proposal for electoral votes awarded according to who won the congressional district. This proposal died on the vine, despite total GOP control in my state. If it had succeeded, PA would be able to throw some EVs R. Money's way.

Finally! I was starting to freak out about Virginia, NC, and Florida.
I like what that Suffolk University polling guy said about not polling those states anymore. It's comforting to see the angry pushback against him from democrat pollsters (PPP, SurveyUSA), because it confirms he's right. I have wanted to see less time, money, and resources fixated on these 3 states, and moved to Penn, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisc.
If the battle is being waged there, and we're not sweating VA, NC, and FL, then Mitt wins (and takes the Senate with him)!

Kelley,
My anecdotal evidence that Barky ain't doin' well in No. Virginny is based on what happened in 2008. By this time in 2008 I had been "visited" at least twice by out-of-state Barkybots asking for my vote. I tried the casual brushoff, of telling who I vote for is my bidness. Of course I was "visited" again by the Barkybots 2 more times by the end of Oct. 2008, when I finally said I was for Juan McRino. I haven't been visited once this election cycle. Still waiting for my worthless congresscritter's reps (VA-11) to visit, but they seem to come out about a week to two weeks before the election. As far as the anecdotal signage in my general neighborhood, I'm seeing more Romney signs than I did McRino's. Since I live in a heavy libtard area of Fairfax Co., and they are libtards, the Obamabots will win my voting precinct in the 55-45 range. R/R need to come out of Fairfax Co., winning about 47-48% (at a min.), and R/R should win VA, no matter what happens in the Peoples Republics of Arlington and Alexandria. I like to think of myself living behind enemy lines in a libtard section of Fairfax Co. Personally, I believe it's all the libtard NY and NJ transplants who screwed up their old home states, and now live in NoVA bringing their stupidity with them, that are making this closer than it has to be. Also starting to see more MD plates in NoVA, with people escaping O'Malley's garden of taxes. Stay the F-out of VA you tards!
