Walter, The Family Crow
— Ace

Super-cute story.

I got this from Adam Carolla, who talks up the advisability of adopting crows as pets at 15:40 or so into the podcast.

Later in the podcast, he discusses the debate with Jay Mohr. Carolla's take is extremely frustrating. Although he's a Romney supporter, his take is he already knew Romney had substance and was an impressive guy, so he's barely complimentary about him at all. (He also never thought much of Obama.) His take is sort of "Well I knew this about him already, so... not really all that impressed."

Very frustrating.

On the other hand, guest Jay Mohr called it a "curbstomp" and previously thought Romney was a "joke," but then watching the debate, realized, "Oh, this guy could be president." He also offers this: "For the first time in my life, the sitting president looked unpresidential."

The debate talk begins around 1:21, but I suggest listening in at 1:19:30 to hear Jay Mohr do his hilarious Norm MacDonald impression.

Oh, actually all of Mohr's impressions are great. Like his impressions of Colin Quinn and Tracy Morgan. For those, you know, click back until Mohr is introduced.

120 I love this piece: The Shield Cracks excerpt: Think about it: the New Yorker is mocking Barack Obama using an image from a gag from the Republican National Convention. It's a singularity of irony, they just don't know it. The cracks in the Acela Corridor's Barack Protection Protocol are showing because Obama's most compelling attribute was the belief that his intellectual prowess is unmatched by any President, perhaps any mortal. A cornerstone of their faith in him was always that Barack Obama's intellectual firepower could be deployed at will, and destroy Mitt Romney at a time and place of the President's choosing. What they saw Wednesday night wasn't the demigod they've protected like so many cultural Myrmidons, but a stammering, detached, utterly outclassed man hoisted on the petard of his own laziness and incuriousity. The damage to their perception of him isn't enough to draw them to Romney, but in their post-modern, super-ironic world, the moment Obama showed weakness, he became a legitimate target. http://ricochet.com/main-feed/The-Shield-Cracks

True.  The best outcome is for the regime to fall, obviously.  But if an attack comes, Israel really needs backup.  The Hezbos and Hamas will let loose with everything they've got the moment Iran is attacked.  Syria, if chinless is still in power may see attacking Israel as an out to his problems, and he would almost certainly us gas which would mean a nuclear response from Israel.  Even the King of Jordan may see supporting an attack on Israel as a way to maintain power a while longer.  A lot of ifs, but that whole place is on a slow boil right now.

165 Now that the Islamist genie has been let out of the bottle, there’s no going back. (AFP) - Gunmen opened fire on the home of a Coptic Christian in the Sinai peninsula on Saturday, hours after a visit by President Mohamed Morsi to reassure Christian residents they would not be targeted again. Gunmen “used automatic weapons when they opened fire on the house of a Coptic resident of Rafah hours after the president left,” a security official told AFP. There were no reports of casualties, he said. Witnesses told AFP three gunmen in a car fired on the house of Magdi Niruz before fleeing the scene. Morsi had visited the Sinai peninsula on Friday to meet with and reassure families who fled Rafah to El-Arish after receiving death threats. This “will not happen again,” Morsi told a group of local Bedouin tribal chiefs and other residents of El-Arish.

190 All I know is that the local hospital perv in the radiology department felt it was necessary to nuke my wife's breasts every three months, then call her back a couple days later to nuke them again. Then call her into his office for a private 'consult' that skeeved her out. Upon my very strong recommendation and her Drs. less stringent recommendation, we found a hospital that isn't trying to improve their bottom line with ionizing radiation. My next door neighbor continued to go to the 'bad' hospital and things aren't working out so well for her. Maybe you should compare the annual fatality numbers and look at the number of men who get their prostate subjected to ionizing radiation all the time.

195 I get the annoyance with the pink stuff. It doesn't seem to be particularly helpful to curing cancer or even to inducing women to get exams (IF their insurance will pay for it, even), etc. I suppose it might remind some women to get mammograms. Hard to say. I'd just point out that the mortality rate for breast cancers ~15%. Mortality rate for prostate cancers ~11.6%. And breast cancers affect a broader age group, hitting younger women than prostate cancers hit men. So I guess I just have a hard time grasping the anger directed at efforts intended (even if stupidly) to combat something that might kill (or disfigure) your mom or sister or wife.

"According to The Hill, the Obama campaign is now claiming that R/R cannot criticize them RE Benghazi because the FY 2013 House budget contains across-the-board non-defense discretionary cuts that might have affected embassy security."

The Obama campaign is full of   it.  Of course Romney can criticize them all he wants to.  He wasn't involved with the budget process even if he has an "R" next to his name.  The clue   phrase is  'might have'.   The administration DID cut security there.  The Republicans did not.  They play a lot of  ifs,  don't they?

The people who sent $90 billion into the Solyndra toilet want us to believe pulling the Benghazi security team out in August, after repeated requests for additional security, right before 9/11, amidst credible intelligence of AQ attacks,  was because they were suddenly worried about budgets?  Nice try.

205 So I guess I just have a hard time grasping the anger directed at efforts intended (even if stupidly) to combat something that might kill (or disfigure) your mom or sister or wife. Hardly anger. Bemusement mainly. Professional athletes who can end another players career or put them in a wheelchair for life -- with one tackle -- wearing pink? Seems a tad off. But the point I want to make is that everyone 'knows' to limit their exposure to the suns radiation. All sorts of products on the market. All sorts of advice. Constant repetition. Some follow the advice, some ignore it. No matter how often it is repeated. Melanoma death rate vs. breast or prostate cancer? But there seems to be such a thing as too much exposure to ionizing radiation, too. If 'awareness' becomes overexposure that could possibly be just as much of a danger.

Posted by: Schrödinger's cat at October 07, 2012 02:17 PM (feFL6)

206 Mortality rate for prostate cancers ~11.6%. Mainly because it tends to occur later in life for men, and it's usually a stroke, or massive coronary that 'gets em' before the cancer finishes its deed. Men who are more celibate and preserve their precious bodily fluids -- or even deny women their essence, like the infamous 30 day program of an infamous blogger I know, tend to have more trouble later in life.

What bothers me is the sanctimony.  It's liberalism, pure and simple.  Wearing a pink ribbon, or pink shoes provided free of charge by Nike, is intended to say "I care more than you".  It's the same reason liberals drive a Prius.  If it didn't have that little green hybrid symbol, sales would be much less.

I lost my wife to breast cancer, so this is personal to me.   If you really care about breast cancer, talk to the women in your life. Browbeat them into getting mammograms and seeing their doctors regularly.  That's much more impactful than wearing some stupid ribbon.

I didn't think the Broncos would get it done on the road, but the play of Manning and the O has been disappointing. Can't get a sense if it's coaching or execution or both.

Broncos  defense  is tired, pressing and making mistakes now.

That's much more impactful than wearing some stupid ribbon. Good advice. Also, ask them to look at the diets of women in countries that have the lowest rates of the disease and make a comparison against their own dietary likes and dislikes. Its hardly a coincidence.

211 Carolla's right, we knew romney's ok and obama sucked.  I think it's a better post debate strategy for us too.  Not spiking the football but relishing the lamentations and tears of our foes as they realize their god bleeds.  But it's nice that mods, allegedly like Mohr, are all whoa, it informed them of what we alrady knoew

212 I soured on Komen a few years ago when I noticed beginning in early January, I heard multiple radio ads every morning about the 3 day walk - the next November.  Every day, multiple times, 11 months in advance, and it continued throughout the year.  I figured these ads were playing on a lot of other radio stations and media, and if they were spending that much on advertising then their priorities were messed up.  All I ever see/hear is pink, ribbons, walks...never anything about research or results as a result of Komen.

My mom died last year from breast cancer and my dad died many years ago from prostate cancer, so I hate cancer with a passion but Komen seems to me to be more about Komen than cancer.

215 Y'know what really needs the research dollars? A room temperature non-squishing mammogram machine. WHY does it need to be refrigerated? WHY do my splendid bosoms need to be ironed out to a half-inch thickness? (and being told "now just relax!" is insult added to injury.) The pain was so bad I had tears running down my face. I would wear pink to honor whoever came up with a better machine, and I hate pink. Hell, if one of the Morons invent one *I will post pics*.  (No, your hands don't count, nice try. Must be used by the LICENSED medical specialists.)

I've lost more men I loved (3) to prostate cancer than women I loved to breast cancer (0 so far, one survivor) so I don't have a problem with more prostate cancer awareness. Anything to make the pink go away.

216 Mohr's comment hit the nail on the head in two ways. One, on stage next to Romney, Obama just doesn't look like the President...Romney does. Two, Mohr had an "Emperor has no clothes moment" and he isn't the only one by a long shot.
