109 A relative of mine co-authored a book, The Big 'R' (I'm sure it's on Amazon) designed for auditing classes that used baseball metaphors to teach auditing principles, while at the same time having a murder mystery going on --all the murder scenes were the sites where perfect games had been pitched. I always joke with him each time a perfect game happens about him needing to revise it, but I think after Johnson's perfect game was the last one I know of (they also needed to put in some post-9/11 stuff).

113 White Sox fan here, super excited. Humber's a great kid, former first round draft pick. It's funny, he's our fifth starter. He had his first start skipped because of a rain delay. And yet, perfect game.

Then again, the Sox rotation is solid. And the defense. Our hitting is kind of mediocre, though.

And seriously, being a Chicago fan during the Obama era sucks. Why must be mentioned on my sports stations constantly? Freaking hell.

It's kind of unknown at this point. He was a late bloomer because of Tommy John surgery, and only got a chance last year because Jake Peavy's health is as reliable as Barry's "intelligence".

He posted a sub-3.00 ERA for most of the year, finished at 3.50 or so. He's likely good, but not All Star quality. Mid-rotation guy, essentially.

Anyways, I'm onto watching my Bulls and then 'Hawks.

Agreed. It's a flawed roster, but a team with stars should get more out of it. Toews, Kane, Sharp etc haven't accomplished much. Toews gets a pass(concussion), but I'd like to see stars play better. Our role players have been great.

Interesting Dock Ellis/Vida Blue story from some blog:

But what he will always be known for was his 1970 LSD induced no hitter against the lowly San Diego Padres of 1972.
Right before the game, at the airport, Dock loaded up and wowed crowd who had no idea the circumstances of his performance.
It wasn't until years later did he reveal the dark truth behind his feat... (like in modern days when David Wells claims he was wild drunk when he threw his perfecto)

His interview describing his feat in detail is up on YouTube.

He spoke openly about racial issues especially in baseball and once told reporters that he wound's start the All Star Game against Vida Blue (in the AL) because MLB would never allow "two soul brothers) to go against each other.

The other great story, fans would murmur remember-whens about was that time in 1974, when Dock Ellis starting a game against the legendary Big Red Machine (a lineup of Cincinnati Reds greats: Pete Rose et al.) and he beaned the first three hitters loading the bases.
He tried to bean cleanup hitter Hall of Famer Tony Perez who ducked every pitch and drew a walk...
He then threw two fastballs at Pete Rose...

We only had one break-in during that time and no violent assaults, just a couple of threats. But we were really careful. The hard part was living without a car. The El from that area was not good, so we always took the train line that ran along the lake front.
