Why the Public Employee Union Gravy Train is Doomed
— CAC

Here is a map of party control state by state:

PARTY STRENGTH STATE GOVERNMENT

Wisconsin barely flipped it's senate last night, but that won't hold per November elections thanks to redistricting, and Walker got his reforms anyway.

This map gets uglier for the Democrat-PEU complex when you consider:
Minnesota is more controlled by its overwhelmingly Republican statehouse than it's ineffective man-child Governor.

New York's Governor Cuomo has no qualms about curbing pensions and even some public employee "rights", and has a Republican-controlled Senate to help.

New Jersey is the effectively the kingdom of Sir Fat Man of Rinodom, whose reforms have worked well enough and convinced enough folks normally apprehensive to such changes that he is likely to coast to re-election, a feat unheard of for a Republican in the Garden State in decades.

Several states are expected to shift even more Republican in the fall, including Montana, North Carolina, and New Hampshire.

Three of the largest cities in the country: San Jose, San Diego, and Chicago(!), are currently or will shortly be mayored by men ready and willing to put a boot on the neck of unions to stop the pension bombs (Rahm's fight will be the most interesting).

Listening to the usually contradictory Bill Handel yesterday morning on KFI, he called Tuesday's results a "sea change", and stated bluntly that the era of public union power is effectively over. I have heard and read this assessment numerous times since the recall (and in the days leading up to it), and think it's fairly accurate when you look at the numbers now against them. They still own and control enough state legislatures to stagger about, but the survival of Walker has yanked their teeth out, neutered them, took an arm, a foot, and half a face along with it.

The progressive mayor of San Jose described the pension bomb as a cancer. Walker's reforms are chemo. They will cause lots of nasty reactions, but they are necessary, they work, and they are popular. While there was pushback last year in Ohio and a bit in Michigan, recent developments show the trend is back in favor of the taxpayer, for the first time in years (and in some states, decades).

I've never felt better about the fiscal health on a state-by-state level of this country in years. It's almost anti-doomy, and for a few fleeting moments I forget how screwed we are on the federal level.

6 It's great news that something, anything, is getting done to reform the out of control pension and healthcare spending that the muni unions won thru their bargaining with the politicians they paid for. But, most of the changes to date have been to PROSPECTIVE NEW EMPLOYEES and haven't adequately addressed the underfunded liabilities of current employee obligations, or place caps on the benefits accruing to the highest comped current retirees. There's LOTS of work still to be done. And the courts will be generally useless as they'll generally favor the unions in any rulings that reach the bench. To quote Churchill: "It's not the end. It's not even the beginning of the end, but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

11 Here in Southern California , where voting by Republicans is considered akin to spitting in the Pacific Ocean to raise the water level, some mutts are waking up from the Democratic induced lethargy to find a ray of hope from Caucasian land (see Wisconsin) . The Wisconsin legislature is out of session until after the Nov elections anyway so this temporary senate flip will have no effect.  Meanwhile that race still has not been conceded by the Republican Van WAangard and we are currently contemplating a recount based on several reports of voting irregularities.  As you know if you followed Tues results, Racine, the district in question, did not report its results till early the next morning and there are a lot of questions about what happened in that district.  People were last minut registering with no more ID than supermarket flyers and water bills addressed to OCCUPANT

Thus, while we've won some victories, the fact remains that the PEUs are well-funded and politically astute, and will never voluntarily surrender all the power they've gotten. 70 The self professed "liberal" mouthpiece big titty babies were squealing like stuck piggies not because the Republicans spent from out-of-state campaign donations just as the Democrats did, but because the proof in funding was so obvious that it could NOT be denied. Republicans didn't have more funding because of fewer richer donors. MORE AMERICANS WANT FISCAL SANITY than those insane enough to insist on kicking the can. That can of debt worm ain't going downhill. Any kick making contact attaches the debt to the foot. It isn't a road any more, but a mire of quick sand. The harder the kicks the quicker the suicide.

Jerry Doyle's "Return to Fiscal Sanity" poll results say it all. Though Americans are fed up with all kinds of shit, regardless of party, 90% of literate Americans agree that politicians lie and the government is rotten, so there's no reason to willingly swallow any more raised/new tax shit sandwich on command. The vote results demand LESS TAX ON CITIZENS & STFU WITH MEANINGLESS PROMISES. Politicians say they want the people mandate for their campaign platform, eh.

Who is a Customs specialist to affirm/deny the word that NAFTA has cut 2/3 of US Customs income -- removing taxation from big business. And that's just the tip of the NAFTA iceberg sheering against profitable US (small business) enterprise which is said to provide most of our nation's employment.
