Wikipedia Entry for 'Critical Race Theory' Changed Today
— rdbrewer

In the version dated January 31, 2012, the words "white supremacy" and "racial power" appear.

Although no set of canonical doctrines or methodologies defines CRT, the movement is loosely unified by two common areas of inquiry. First, CRT has analyzed the way in which white supremacy and racial power are reproduced over time, and in particular, the role that law plays in this process.

(Emphasis added.) However, the current version states the following:

Although no set of canonical doctrines or methodologies defines CRT, the movement is loosely unified by two common areas of inquiry. First, CRT has analyzed the way in which racial hierarchies are reproduced over time, and in particular, the role that law plays in this process.

(Emphasis added.) You can see both versions on this page. If you go to the revision page, it looks like a little war broke out today, with edits and re-edits. One participant commented that it had obviously been changed to match "Soledad Obrien's empty-headed explanation on television last night."

52 "U.S. military struggles to teach troops to respect Koran," by Ian Duncan for the Los Angeles Times, March 8: Troops serving in Afghanistan were advised never to touch the Koran, never to place anything on top of one, and to keep it off the floor and out of bathrooms. They were even told never to "talk badly" about it. But the do's and don'ts said nothing about burning the Muslim holy book, which is what happened last month as a cache of Korans was incinerated at Bagram air base, setting off riots across the country that killed more than 30 people and provoked attacks on U.S. forces. An investigation by NATO officials into the burnings found five U.S. troops responsible, but it concluded that the actions were not deliberate and were the result of a miscommunication. The troops could face disciplinary action, but commanders in Afghanistan have not yet announced the form it will take. North Atlantic Treaty Organization troops last week started mandatory refresher training on how to handle the Koran. Troops are now told flatly not to dispose of Korans and will be urged to err on the side of caution when dealing with Arabic texts, assuming "material is sacred if there is any doubt over its religious significance."

60 Wikipedia could very easily implement something that highlighted recent changes or showed recently deleted parts of the article.  They could make it easy to vote on these additions and deletions.

They don't.  I think partly they stick to the old way because these ideas would highlight just how much BS is carried on many of their pages in weird edit wars, and how often something that bugs the left (mostly... though certainly not only them) is removed over and over again.  It would undermine the idea wikipedia can be relied on for anything controversial.

I think wikipedia is great for many things, though.  I just think they need to accept that it is used to spin news and it needs to prevent this by highlighting recent changes for a few weeks.  That would have a Streisand effect and greatly diminish edit wars.

69 That harvard page is pretty funny.  We have:

Because critical race theorists argue that the imperial, objective voice of law so often veils the perpetuation of racial hierarchy, many of these scholars celebrate personal, passionate voices in their voices and teaching. Narratives infuse their works: autobiographical, fictional, and allegorical. Critiques of popular culture and contributions to it also characterize critical race writings.

LOL.  "Race writings".  No shit.

This is all so retarded it's actually funny.  And Barky has already done a job on that idea of an "objective voice of law" by getting empathy now accepted as a main criterion in judicial proceedings.  Thanks to the shithead GOP in the Senate for waiving on that offense to the intellect and attack on millenia of Western civilization.

A postulate is "shit I just made up," it's a statement that's not backed up or proven. Wikipedia is more postulate than not, for example. That's because it's their bread and butter.

Bell believed Whitey Was Everywhere because his livelihood depended on it.  The last thing he wanted was their to be no racism, or for people not to think it wasn't as big a problem as he could paint it.

Posted by: nickless at March 08, 2012 02:46 PM (MMC8r)

91 I was just tweeting about this with Lee Stranahan who writes for Big Journalism. CRT teaches that racism is deeply rooted in society itself, so changing individuals accomplishes nothing. That was Derrick Bell's message in the 1990's which Obama embraced: the civil rights movement didn't really change anything. Radical racial hucksters and activists who scream racism at everybody, Bell is the guy who GAVE them the philosophical cover to do that. 'White' society is inherently racist, so until that foundational society is 'transformed' racism is everywhere and only the 'experts' can see it and work to overthrow the old system and erect a new one in it's place. This can only be done from the top down. Winning individual hearts and minds means nothing, this can only be achieved by political power through utopian schemes through total State control. THIS is what the country needed to know about Obama while he was running for President and THIS is what they deliberately hid from the public. CRT drives everything Obama does. And remember: HOW DID THEY SELL AND PACKAGE THIS GUY IN 2008? As a 'post-racial' moderate who would 'unite' the country. This is why the MSM has to desperately spin this as video after video will be released showing that Obama was - and still is - a radical racial activist.

Some one forwarded a Theory, which then had to be proven to be, um, proven, and then taken as serious, and thus become the basis for other Theories. Like the vetting process, only with science.

Sorta like the old Observation Followed by More Experimentation process.

Although I could be wrong. I'll be back, as I like precision...

102 The premise was that slavery was very much a negative for white people.

Imagine running a business today where you had to provide housing for your employees. Not to mention food, water, even the barest of medical care. Maybe some sort of rudimentary education program for the offspring. You had to outright 'purchase' your employees without the ability to 'fire' them if they failed to perform. Or send them home if you ran out of work.

It was indeed horrible for whites, but not for the reasons cited.  The use of slaves depressed demand for free mens' labor, and benefitted only the rich land holders. It also resulted in Balkanization of the US, and a racial divide that may never be bridged.

Paying a person nothing more than subsistence, with that person having zero recourse, is still cheaper than free labor when doing unskilled work.  An underperforming slave need not be fired - he can be motivated through beatings, or killed and replaced.  His children can be sold off if found inconvenient.  No education is needed, or desired.  His retirement plan is: work until death or sale.  His health plan is:  if it's cheap, we'll fix you.  If not, we let you die.

What doomed slavery was the rise of mechanization.

OK, I'm back.

There are different definitions of the word "theory" depending on which discipline you're talking about. The further you get away from hard science and mathmatics, which already contains observable and predictable laws of behavior, the more fuzzy it becomes.

Since I've dealt with physics in manufacturing for most of my life, I tend more towards a concrete explanation of the terms. To me, any bullshit can be forwarded as a theory (see Warming, Global, Man-Made) and it has to be proven to be true before I'll believe it.

Naturally, any sociological theory would need to be proven, but due to the nature of the study and the subjectiveness of it, I don't see how that's possible. Hence my suspicion of CRT. It just sounds like PoMo BS, which we all know is the basis for much of the left's insanity.

110 Atheory is supported by evidence, but not proved. A theory, once proved, is a law. Posted by: Reactionary at March 08, 2012 06:49 PM (jfeoD) OMFG. In science (which is WTF we were talking about): A hypothesis is an explanation of why a thing happens. A theory is an explanation of why a thing happens which has been tested, and very time so far the explanation has proved correct. A law is an observation or group of observations of what happens that is tested and exceptions are not found. A theory doesn't become a law because they're not even the same category. Big hint - if it explains *why* something happens, it's not a law, it's a theory. A law is just observations of what happens, not why. All that being said, the terms are horribly abused in social and political sciences. That's not an excuse to try to change the meanings of the words, its a reason to reform the social and political sciences.

AFROLANTICA LEGACIES

By Derrick Bell.

186 pp. Chicago:

Third World Press. $24.95.

There has been, in recent years, a small but flourishing academic movement to forsake conventional scholarship in favor of telling stories. Tales or fables, the movement's proponents argue, can express cutting truths and demonstrate everyday reality far better than brittle-as-a-dried-leaf scholarly prose.

Storytelling spans a wide body of post-modernist scholarship, but it is thriving especially among the black legal scholars who loosely form what is called the critical-race theory movement. Derrick Bell, renowned and admired for having left a tenured position at the Harvard Law School in 1990 because it had never given tenure to a black woman (it just did so with Lani Guinier), is one of its elder statesmen.

Bell, a visiting professor at New York Law School, has now produced the fourth book in which he deploys storytelling to discuss race in America, reintroducing his all-knowing fictional character, Geneva Crenshaw, to pronounce on the subject. Alas, the technique may have outlived its usefulness. Once provocative and novel, the approach -- stilted dialogues and all -- seems stale. In ''Afrolantica Legacies'' its weaknesses are on painful display.

The fable of Afrolantica was first told in an earlier book. A new and idyllic continent arises in the Atlantic Ocean, on which, it turns out, only black people can survive. American blacks organize a mass migration by armada to Afrolantica, only to have it sink before their eyes. As they return to the United States, they re-evaluate their position in society and produce a set of principles, the Afrolantica Legacies, in essence a set of homilies on self-reliance.

Bell's long-expressed pessimistic view of racial relations, and the principal pillar of most black critical-race theorists, is that the civil rights movement, with its emphasis on integration, has been largely a failure and that racism has not abated. But to press these arguable positions, Bell sees no need to prove or demonstrate anything; he merely asserts conclusions. In these and previous tales, his truths are simple: black people always behave nobly while white people behave atrociously. In those few instances in which they don't, it is solely because of a cynical if submerged self-interest.

In one section, for instance, Bell recounts how Government leaders are secretly paying for something known as ''the black sedition papers,'' collecting writings to use as evidence that blacks are unfit citizens. The papers will eventually be used to justify the curtailment of rights in order to suppress the black population. Now how exactly is this fable of a Government-underwritten conspiracy to abrogate the Constitution different from, say, ''The Turner Diaries,'' a piece of fiction much favored by the loonies of the militia set?

In another section, Bell explores the issue of the black-Jewish divide by offering a dialogue between himself and a fictionalized Jewish law school colleague, Ben Hirsch. Poor Hirsch, the straw man here, doesn't stand a chance, and Bell, handling both sides of the argument, is quickly victorious.

One of Bell's arguments is that Jews fail to understand why it is so hurtful to blacks when demands are made that they, one and all, denounce Louis Farrakhan for anti-Semitic remarks. After all, Bell tells Hirsch, Jews are not pressed to denounce racist statements by their own prominent members. Which racist statements does he have in mind? Well, he cites attacks on affirmative action in journals like Commentary and The New Republic. Are arguments against affirmative action, however tendentious, equivalent to Farrakhan's remarks?

It is a tenet of Bell's that blacks and whites increasingly see things from vastly different perspectives. In ''Afrolantica Legacies'' he succeeds in pressing that point.

In this week's program we speak with legal scholar and critical race theorist Patricia Williams and education scholar and activist Bill Ayers. We caught up with both of them in Chicago in November 2011, at the National Association for Multicultural Educations annual conference, for which they were both keynote speakers.

Patricia Williams is a legal scholar and was a pioneer in critical race theory.
Critical Race Theory developed in the 1980's as a result of the desire of many black legal scholars in the U.S. to develop a critique of liberal civil rights discourse, which embodied ideals of assimilation and integration.

Critical Race Theory analyzes the way that white supremacy and racial power is reproduced over time and the role that law plays in this process.
Patricia Williams is a professor of law at Columbia University and writes a column for The Nation magazine called Diary of a Mad Law Professor. In the following clip, she shares her perspective on race and inequity in the U.S. education system.

126 Speaking from a rhetoric standpoint, white supremacy and racial power are far more descriptive for what CRT studies than "racial hierarchies," which gives the impression that CRT focuses on how whites stack races and ignore the implications of power. 133 The History of Cults in North America (c) 2371; p 187.

"Critical Race Theory represents one the many aberrant Scientisms to afflict the occidental university of the late 20th Century. This late-Hegelian academic period saw unprecedented, serial failure of scholarship and trusteeship within the university system of that era.

Ironically, the initial battles involving Harvard's refusal to grant tenure to racialist professors was rooted in one of the last meaningful attempts to defend the academy from remnant Phrenology-based constructs of race, and the dialectics and racketeering of postmodern racialists exploiting politics to mask the absence of scholarship and research fidelity.

CRT represented one of the most vulgar and anti-scientific cults of the era. The CRT-designated 'race' literally dictated a formally designated identity of the person; humans were but an artifact of their official race designation.

Thus we see the merit of claims CRT was anti-individual, segregationist and anti-mutual; cult-think. Race was determined by skin color, but only two colors: "black and non-black". The particular spelling "blaque" was used for a short time from the 1960s through the 1980s, as CRT practitioners claimed possession of special knowledge that allowed them to empirically determine how some black people are blacker than others.

In the year 2008, CRT and remnant Hegelian scientism are believed largely responsible for the result of a British National being elected as President of the United States "because he was black." The candidate had a "white mother" so the nationality of the father, standing law and treaty controlling the jurisdictional birth of his son were ignored by sycophants and the for-profit media. True to the fabulisms CRT doctrine, race trumped nationality; in the constructed narrative, only the race flowed from the father to the son, and the candidate was declared to be "black" though he was just as white by the same flawed measure.

This restatement of anti-science arose from the notorious "one drop rule"  made famous by another Hegelian cult, the NAZI. The "psychotic racialism" sustained and promoted by decades of academic, religious and government sponsored phrenology had led to a collective mass psychosis unique to "blaque" racial identity issues. The identity politics stripped American of their individual identity, and reduced them to black and not-black, further segregating the population for manipulation by the carpetbagger subculture, a near-cult of criminality that began as a predatory criminal exploitation of slaves freed after the civil war.

Though the lens of modern history, scholars attribute the identity politics to neo-Stalinism and the remarkable success of polemicist-propagandist Lavrenti Berea in funding the cause and distribution of disordered thought during the cold war between the Soviet and American nations. Many scholars see CRT, like 'revolutionary theology' as masterpieces of implanted thought disorders shining a bright light on the genius of Beria, his authorship and effective use of the Soviet doctrine of "mental healing."

In the mid-26th Century, cognitive scientists categorized CRT as a manifestation of race psychoses, formally documenting the condition as a mental illness. Geneticists confirmed in the 20th Century there was no "gene" for race, and that all the Hegelian phrenological constructs represented ordinary variations and adaptive traits in Homo Sapiens Sapiens physiology.

Historians have noted the remarkable effectiveness of Berian conditioning. Some have found it's penetration and effectiveness to be unprecedented in recorded history. Others say this, coupled with the unprecedented 'narcissus effect' of early television, inherently created cognitive and identity disorders driving related self-immolation and chemical abuse phenomenon that took 7 generations to stabilize. Scholars have determined there is extensive correlation between CRT practitioners, adherents, addiction and self-immolating chemical and emotional abuse.

Some have documented the interplay between human evolutionary biology and the unprecedented technology impacts of early radio, film and television. Some believe a pathological fusion occurred with the emerging Hegelian Supremacism to synergistically embolden and animate the identity movements infiltrating the politics of the era.

Particularly, criminal science historians have pointed to the pervasive expansion of a predator carpetbagger underculture within and arising from the shadow government phenomenon of 20th Century foundations and related academe that led to many science-related scandals and frauds perpetrated with well-intended public funding. Perhaps the worst example is found in the early 21st Century destruction of Libyan society, or the earlier utopian experiment in scientifically-perfected socialism by Hegelian Supremacist and member of the Socialist International, Pol Pot, Ph.D., London School of Economics. Dr. Pot declared himself supreme leader and created the notorious reeducation camps and killing fields of Cambodia in his efforts to be the the first to successfully apply scientific dialectical materialism and transformative academic theory to create the first properly functioning utopian society in the modern world.

Returning to bizarre prevalence 21th Century race psychoses and self-immolation by racialism, the thought disorders arising from continued teaching of europeanized identity, phrenology, dialectics and feudal conceit in the United States manifested as both individual and collective, and virulent depending upon the use of media in a particular issue. Many experts have noted, were it not for the retarding subculture of Hegelian Supremacism in American academe, the national dialog would have sooner returned to the dominant mutualism, trusteeship and disciplined scholarship that later replaced the academy Hegelians during the great economic collapse of 2016-2024, that also saw the fatal implosion of the global utopian mother-cult of the 150 year Hegelian Supremacist movement, the Socialist International.

136 Seems the original entry has been restored. Although no set of canonical doctrines or methodologies defines CRT, the movement is loosely unified by two common areas of inquiry. First, CRT has analyzed the way in which white supremacy and racial power are reproduced over time, and in particular, the role that law plays in this process. Second, CRT work has investigated the possibility of transforming the relationship between law and racial power, and more broadly, the possibility of achieving racial emancipation and anti-subordination.[1]
