Words to make your blood run cold. [krakatoa]

"We really want to understand the limits of what is possible for fast-moving robots." - Dr. Alfred Rizzi

If that's not making you piss your pants, check out the video.

We can only hope and pray some hobo hacker doesn't get his hands on one of these prototypes. It could turn the balance of power.

This is the kind of research prioritization that keeps our cars earthbound. To Hell with flying cars -- Prof Egghead McRobo-racer wants him a record-breaking bot, with an eventual target of 50 (plus?) mph. So the rest of us keep driving to work like cavemorons while he plots to one day unleash this clattering metal menace on the world untethered.

SCIENTISTS: They aren't developing the means of enslaving us to the machines because they are bad. They just don't watch movies.

Though to be honest, would it really be any better if these robots were slow and ponderous?   That never helps the victims in Halloween movies, or anything with mummies and/or traditional     lumbering zombies    (as opposed to the speedy Gonzalez zombies of 28 Days Later).     The monster can be slow as molasses on a cold day, but the victim STILL can't outrun him/her/it.        And it MUST be true, because the movies tell me      it is.

51 Anyone watch that old sci-fi B movie "Screamers"?  Based on the book "Second Variety" by sci-fi grandmaster Phillip K Dick, it's the story of scientists creating autonomous miniature robots armed not with guns, but with knives and buzzsaws, designed to be self-sufficient and completely independent to be used as weapons against their enemies.  It was revealed in the movie that the first batch of robots were created in an underground base that no one has seen or checked on in years.  They flipped the 'on' switch and ran off, knowing that the robots did not differentiate between friendly humans or their enemies.  They were designed to kill anything with a heartbeat by ripping them to shreds.  Well the robots eventually  become self-aware, upgrading themselves with human replica models indistinguishable from real people.  It's a pretty decent flick to catch on cable if you haven't seen it.

I say we upgrade this cheetah-bot with knives and buzzsaws and air-drop them all over Afghanistan.

AB = Andrew Breitbart

Which translates to "Andrew Breitbart Obama."

Now,       if we interpret "Andrew Breitbart"      as a verb   (e.g., "Man, I really Andrew Breitbarted that dickweed Keefums on Twitter!"), then when we say "ABO" we're not only saying "Anyone But Obama," we're also saying, "Stick it to Obama!  Shove his hypocrisy right back in his face!   Andrew Breitbart Obama!"

102 Scientists will develop a flying car when they get a grant from DoD or DARPA for it. Then they'll gnash their teeth and rend their lab coats at the sight of flying MRAPs with twin automated 50 cal. on the under-carriage being used to snake through canyons where Taliban are hiding.

103 First Carlo Rizzi betrays Santino (Sonny) to Barzini's hitmen, and now his progeny Alfred Rizzi betrays the human race to robots?  When will we ever learn?

104 I used to be terrified of scientists and technocrats taking over the world and destroying everything that is gracious, fine, beautiful, true. Now I just don't give a shit.

105 I saw a thing about a flying hmmvw competition. Think it was DARPA. Let me see if I can find it.

110 105 Yeah, but the point of the flying "car" is ease of use, last I heard the Osprey is anything but easy to use.   --------   No problem; got it covered. Haven't you seen my pretty mockups?

112 Okay. They can run fast. They can add claws and fangs.

Where will they put the batteries?

These days it'll have to pull a 1 ton cart.

It's the problem with GM's Volt.

They should be spending money on energy storage technology.

That's where the big bucks and huge advances in technology are.
