Your Sunday Gaming Thread
— Gang of Gaming Morons!

Afternoon my friends, Zakn here leading up the Team.

I work Nights Sunday-Thursday, so today Is Memorial Day for me. Most people are celebratory. I'm not. I tend to lay in bed and be a morose mfer.

Take a moment of your day off and realize that it was because some Mothers Son died fighting in a random shithole so your dumb ass could BBQ. I'd rant, but 'm a Gaming Moron.

(edit...I think this published too early. Putting it back up... Zakn) Been playing a ton of Mario Tennis Open on my 3ds...I'm deliberately avoiding a finishing push on Mario Land 3d. It's been my experience that I'll be suddenly good at a level since my sub-conscience has solved the problem the game is posing to me. But you deal with the Mario you know. Here's a quick look from Giant Bomb

I finished the first 4 tourneys, but now it's stupid hard. I like that I can can jump into a match play a bit, and then i'm done. I don't like the way you have to hold the damn thing, so I hope they patch it. My buddy at work got a 3DS for his kid, and he's been bringing it to work. We've been having fun doing Mario Tennis and Mario Kart 7. I really like what the 3DS does with local multi-player.

Diablo Stuff....I have not played enough of it as the horde prolly has, but it's pretty good. I'm not happy with the Monk nerf, but nerfs are nerfs... Post about it.

Civilization 5 is onsale this weekend on Steam. Check it out. I don't know about the feasibility of doing a Moron game, but I think it could be fun.

Also, what about a game of Diplomacy? Let me know what ya'll think. If we get enough people interested, I'll set a game up. Or you can!

Have a Wonderful Memorial Day. *tips hat and thinks of the lost.

SilverGTP here, hoping you are having a great weekend. Be sure to do something to honor our fallen soldiers because our lousy president isn't doing squat.

First up is the news that Valve is collaborating with the makers of PAYDAY: The Heist on a new co-op game. There's no official word on what form such a game will take, but expect robbing banks while being chased by hordes of zombies.

Looking for a Memorial Day fix of war games? Look no further, check these out:

Battlestations Pacific

Empire: Total War

* bonus - with the new Warpath Campaign, you can play as Elizabeth Warren and her family as they defend their Pow Wow Chow from the evil paleface!

38 Studios Cuts Entire Staff after spending $50 million of taxpayer money from a Rhode Island state loan. It seems that government is no good at investmenting money. Who knew?

The all-knowing and oh-so-trustworthy folks at CNN say video games and porn are ruining men. They just don't want us to have any fun. Take away my video games and porn, and I will go full-on Hulk, smashing everything I see.

Don't forget to get your free Mass Effect DLC on May 29. This does not include the alternate endings but it should keep you busy until that DLC is released later this summer.

Finally, here's a trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, due later this year:

As always, find me on Twitter.

4 Eurovision's not good enough for ace, I guess. There were some really funny comments, too. Oh well.

10 "Most people are celebratory."

Au contrere, mon frere.  Here at AoSHQ,  Memorial Day Weekend is the three-day funeral dirge.  And if you bitch about it, someone will call you "classless."

14 As an older "gentleman" my reflexes aren't so good.   My gray cells were, apparently, never up to the task of Chess.  Are there any good games for someone like me?

15 So what old games do you all play still despite their old graphics? I still play Heroes of Might&Magic III, Theif 1-3, Deus Ex, and others. I'd play Mechwarrior and Wing Commander if I could get a good joystick and a way to get my system to run them. Age of Empires 2 is still good too.

16 At the mother-in-law's this weekend, so I'm stuck with just plain old WoW. The Pandaria beta and D3 won't run on my netbook and the latest version of Kerbal Space Program just crawls on it.

#FML

Posted by: Anachronda at May 27, 2012 10:45 AM (c16IJ)

17 I'm getting more and more at peace with the idea of dumping WoW entirely when Pandaria comes out. I hardly ever play it now anyway.

18 Recently, I've been playing Diablo 3 on my PC and Disgaea 3 on my Vita. That's two games at once, with the D3 abbreviation, featuring demons. I haven't had trouble keeping them straight (very different gameplay and art styles), but occasionally I come across a waypoint in Diablo 3 and I think it'd be nice to pull Desco out of it to unleash some Final Boss Power on those crappy Vortex/Jailer champions.

Lol, I've done the same thing but with DDO. In fact it's WoW that I moved to after not playing DDO for a month or so.  Oddly, I kind of *like* the fishing and cooking aspects of the game. Reminds me of Runescape and gives a bit of a breather between bouts of slaughter.

20 One of the reasons I finally broke down and joined WoW was that the HQ has a guild.  Unfortunately, I never seem to be on when/if any of them are playing.

21 Speaking of wargames... just about every Apple ][ game is available to play on your browser at http://www.virtualapple.org/ There's a ton of old apple wargames to peruse.

22 > 14 As an older "gentleman" my reflexes aren't so good. My gray cells were, apparently, never up to the task of Chess. Are there any good games for someone like me? Posted by: Jimbo Turn based RPGs OR action RPGs that are pauseable at any time. Divinity II - Dragon Knight Saga is on sale at amazon for 6 bucks now. (pauseable action rpg). You can try a demo from Steam. Many videos on youtube. Turn based.... huh. That's hard to find except on consoles. Septerra Core is one that's on PCs (you can get it from GOG.com) Or you can get a ps2 and have access to 25,171 turn based RPGs!

23 I have been playing Star Wars: The Old Republic.

I also got Portal 2 but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

What I would like is to get a multi-player game of Hearts of Iron 3 or Crusader Kings 2 going.

25 What server is the AoSHQ WoW guild on?

It's on Hellscream and is an Alliance guild.  DrawAndStrike was ablr to find out that much but, like I said, no one seems to be on. Ever.  Should we start a new one?

Posted by: Polliwog, Teahada hobbit at May 27, 2012 01:01 PM (CQ1cz)

27 I'd sort of like to see an HQ Horde guild too.  In fact, I was shocked to realize that *the Horde* guild wasn't a Horde guild.  Seemed a natural fit somehow.

28 Well, I actually quit WoW due to boredom.   Lots of the friends I enjoyed playing with have quit or switched games.

I had SWTOR for a bit, but all my friends quit playing.   Currently doing D3.

Does anyone know if starter edition WoWs can join guilds?   Would be interested in joining the AoSHQ guild just to listen in and chat.

I'm starter edition but haven't tried to join a guild since I knew I wanted the Moron guild.  I'll be going to a pay account though once I get my new credit card since this one's about to expire and I don't want *yet another* company I have to change info with.

30 I've been looking into the new zombie apocalypse mod for Arma II, called DayZ. So far it's in Alpha (for those that don't know that means it's not even officially in Beta Testing yet), but looks and plays really well. There are several play-through guides on You-Tube for those so inclined. Basically you spawn in a map that's 250 square kilometers (servers are apparently limited to 50 people each) and make your way into town while avoiding or killing both zombies and other players who want to kill you. Now, of course, not everyone wants to kill you. Some people will naturally help you, if you help them, but there are players out there (Bandits) that live for the fun of killing other players and looting their stuff. The mod is quite promising. I have high hopes for it getting a full release. And yes, it's available on Steam. Hope to kill ... errrr ... see you later in DayZ, ~V5

BF3 double XP for PC (only) players. Yesterday and today, until mid-night Pacific, I think. BF3 now reduced to < 30 bucks. Should be thousands of new players soon with that pricing. Meat!!!

I have not read any really good reviews about D3. Mostly the tone has been, ho-hum, but I could be filtering based upon taste. WSAD to you all!

32 Diplomacy..hell ya. Sign me up. Played the board game years ago and tried the online version, but the tools that played against me left the game and didn't finish it.

33 31 I have not read any really good reviews about D3. ... WSAD to you all!

----------

One of my personal annoyances with D3 is that it doesn't use the WSAD keys to move, only the mouse. Of course, you also use the mouse to attack things. So I keep winding up in situations where I think I'm telling the game to attack something and the game thinks I'm telling it to go stand right next to the thing I want to attack.

34 On the up side, my netbook can deal with KSP if the rocket is really simple. Not well, mind you, but well enough to fly. Don't think I can fly to the Mun on the netbook, but I can get into orbit and mess around a bit.

Posted by: Anachronda at May 27, 2012 07:14 PM (c16IJ)

35 Diablo 3 is a blast, it has a great mood, terrific music and sound, interesting missions, and its every bit as fun as the first two. Don't believe the whiners, its a terrific game well worth a purchase.
But Anachondra is right about the movement. Its a pain sometimes, that's always been a weakness of Diablo. If you hold the Shift key down when you attack you'll stay put though.
