2012 NFL Pick'em Results
— Pixy Misa

This year's champion is drstanly with 145 correct picks.

There was a tie for second place. Black Palm Syndicate and DaveinNC's Swag Picks both had 143.

It should be noted that DaveinNC was suspected of using PEDs. We'll never know for sure as his urine sample was left in the HQ fridge and someone "accidently" drank it.

The results for management?

Ben 134
JohnE 125
JWF 123
Andy 119
CDR-M 117
RD 112

Better luck next year RD, better luck next year.

Thanks for playing everyone.

Oh and Andy is running a NFL.com Playoff Challenge. You can sign up here. Assuming you have an NFL account. If not, register one and then click the link. The group is "AOS" and the password is "LOLRomo".

1 Flipping a coin for my picks got me to very near 50%. I'd say that the spread is pretty accurate.

Also, I heard brief mention on the radio yesterday that our man in Venezuela was already fertilizing the daisies...but they, (the cubans, the few Venezuelans that mourn his passing, and Sean Penn, are withholding announcing his timely demise until they can identify, and publicly name a suitable successor to the throne. 37 Holy shit. Every one of these mother fuckers needs to be castrated and then shot. *Warning* This will piss you the hell off. http://tinyurl.com/a5k4mwm A chilling video leaked by an Anonymous cell this week has added a new twist to a sordid tale of alleged rape that has shattered the peace of a close-knit Ohio football town. The disturbing 12-minute video, posted online Tuesday by the hacktivist group “Knight Sec,” shows teens making jokes about the events that reportedly transpired on Aug. 22. One teen appears to refer to the victim as "deader than" Trayvon Martin, and adds, "she is so raped her p**s is about as dry as the sun right now."

So since this is an NFL Pick'em thread, let's ask the question:   who's going to win this weekend's playoff games?

Ravens/Colts

Texans/Bengals

Packers/Vikings

Redskins/Seahawks

Death is too good for them.

Forcible    rape     in any form        deserves no better than the death penalty.    And it should be inflicted with the maximum amount of pain allowed by law.       What qualifies as "cruel and unusual" when the defendants themselves are cruel?

I don't have a rational answer that would actually serve.  It's a purely emotional argument that I'm making, which is all the more frustrating in that I try to avoid precisely that.

I think I'm just tired of hearing how some poor man who raped and slaughtered six children is having his rights violated because the IV needle is too big a gauge, and is causing him pain.

I agree.  That's kind of my point.  Isn't that an emotional argument?  Haven't we (specific to VA) as an electorate determined that we have a societal obligation to execute certain people for certain crimes?

Why the need to sugar-coat it?

Posted by: washington nearsider at January 03, 2013 08:30 AM (fwARV)

66 >>>That being the case: Why the FUCK don't we execute people for rape, child predation, et al.?

Well in the case of child predation you have a valid point. In the case of rape the whole crime hinges off not the act itself but whether or not consent was obtained. That's murky water for a capital crime. Some cases are obvious. Some cases, even of apparent forcible rape are less so. And while in principal I agree, in a perfect world where we could know everything about a crime, forcible rape should be punished by death, or at least have that option as a punishment, in the real world of really knowing precious little about what actually happens in the apparent commission of a crime I am not prepared to say the option of the death penalty should be available.

Posted by: MikeTheMoose is Shrugging at January 03, 2013 12:30 PM (0q2P7)

This is why I think the death penalty should be a possible option for ANY felony.   I want a person to know, when he or she commits a crime, that    if it is heinous enough   they may face    the death penalty.   You brutally butcher someone during a home invasion?   You could get the      death penalty.    You swindle   hundreds of    senior citizens and    desperate homeowners out of millions of dollars and leave them destitute?       You could get the death penalty.         It would be up to the prosecution's discretion, just as it is now, so it wouldn't be used 99.9% of the time.    But in that 0.1% of cases where it's suitable, and in the 0.1% of those cases that wouldn't otherwise have been eligible for the death penalty, I think it's the way to go.

Which says to me that we either need to reaffirm the actual definition of rape    to clear up the haziness, OR we make the punishment for    making a false rape accusation severe enough to deter such accusations.    I'm    particularly in favor of     the second option, myself.   False rape accusers not only irrevocably harm those they accuse, but they also make it that much harder for genuine victims to come forward and be    believed.

Felony charges used to be reserved for major crimes- murder, rape, egregious theft, etc.  Now, damned near everything is or can be charged as a felony.  Do you really trust an agent of the state with discretion regarding who deserves to die for their crimes?

You do see the danger in where that could lead, right?

105 Delaware taxpayers appear to be getting soaked twice under a deal in which the Democratic governor lent $21.5 million to a hybrid electric carmaker to set up shop in the state. The company has yet to produce a car in Delaware, and taxpayers are footing the electric bill for the idle plant. The deal was enthusiastically announced in 2009 by Gov. Jack Markell and Vice President Biden -- formerly Delaware's senior senator -- as a way to bring as many as 2,500 green jobs to the state. But California-based Fisker Automotive Inc. has since suffered a series of setbacks that have compounded its shaky financial situation. Pardon me while I laugh so hard I might pee myself

You imagine a justice system wherein the relevant parties actually are seeking justice. Prosecutors don't prosecute seeking justice they seek to win, and will use any leverage to do so. Defendants and their lawyers wish to get off for the crime whether or not they are guilty. The Judge has his own career and the reputation of the court he will invariably place in front of justice. Which leaves only the least informed, least qualified people in the room, the Jury, as justices sole representative in the proceedings, and their emotional state can sway them to use retribution the rational mind would recoil from. Hence Locke's theory of crime and punishment, punishment should not be dealt out with passion, but with a rational impartiality.

Sorry no. With a real system as full of flaws as our real system is. Legal application of the death penalty should be limited, so that misapplication might also be limited.

Yes, I do.   And I still support it.   if punishment for heinous crimes is    insufficiently     applied      because the definition of what constitutes a heinous crime has been muddied by   lesser crimes, then you have to look at the entire criminal code    and fix it.    It's not nice and it's hard and it might be impossible in this day and age; that doesn't mean it's not right.

<<Sax said the restaurantÂ’s general manager eventually came over and said it was fine for the detectives to be in the restaurant.

“At this point the detectives were very embarrassed and felt the situation was entirely too awkward for them to remain and all left the restaurant,” Sax said.

A spokesperson for DennyÂ’s told Fox News told Fox News the restaurant manager made a mistake. They do allow both uniformed and non-uniformed officers to carry weapons in the restaurant.

The spokesman said it was a case of miscommunication. They said the manager was trying to do the right thing after a diner had complained.>>
