14 Bringing this over from the Headlines thread, because it's Friday and I'm lazy.

Is anyone else more than a little sick of the fawning coverage of the Kennedy Assassination anniversary today? I understand that it was a turning point in the country's history -- and it's moving to read the comments here at the HQ from those who were alive at the time and remember what they were doing when it happened -- but my God. The MFM is treating it like the most important moment in history.

Why don't we get coverage like this for the D-Day anniversary? For the anniversary of Pearl Harbor? Hell, we barely get this much coverage about 9/11 anymore, and that was less than fifteen years ago.

So what I would like to do today is commemorate another moment in history: the Butt Fumble.

Yes, on this day in 2012, Mark Sanchez, quarterback of the NY Jets, ran headlong into one of his own teammate's blubbery hindquarters, fumbling the football and leading to a scoring spree by my New England Patriots.

Thank you, Mark Sanchez.

It went well, I think. There was one other candidate they interviewed yesterday.  Last night was probably the "sleep on   it"  night for the Head Dude     of  the company.

I'm waiting for a call. And I know exactly how to make it happen: I'll crawl  under my truck   to look for that frayed  wire that's  still causing  the  ECM  fuse to blow,  be in   difficult position with a   flashlight in one hand and a mirror in the other, squinting, and then...ring.

Something for the Good Karma files -

I was just out in San Francisco for work and returned to Virginia via Portland on Alaska Airlines.

I had a good flight back. No first class upgrade, but I was in an exit row. Plane 100% full; half wildland firefighters from Oregon heading to Virginia to fight a wildfire near Luray. One of the firefighters was a giant Yeti of a mountain man, about 6-10 or 6-11, stuck in middle seat in the last row, folded up like a pretzel.

One of the flight attendants started begging the whole exit row section to trade seats with this guy.

No one else seemed inclined to speak up, so I volunteered, but asked if she could get me an aisle seat if she could. She did. She was very grateful, and then I further made her day by giving her my usual flight attendant appreciation gift - a little bag of Lindor's dark chocolate truffles ;-)

I ended up with a free digEplayer, cheeseburger, and booze for the whole flight. Plus every flight attendant was kissing my rosy pink butt the entire flight for trading seats with the tall firefighter with the mountain man beard. It was better than first class, lol.

Stay turgid, Morons

Had Truman given him the aircraft (which we no longer needed anyway) Chiang may very well have wiped out Mao, and stopped Communism in China. More like repeal will never happen because Republicans don't play for keeps, and aren't totally, in principle, against it.

I mean, it all comes down to whether they believe that Obamacare is something that needs to be stopped at all costs, or something they can live with. So far, it seems like they can live with it.

The Dims are fighting tooth and nail to win. Then the Reps: Boehner can't wait to surrender on amnesty and give the Dims a victory. And kill voter turnout when he does surrender. 79 It was a major historical moment, especially for anyone who was alive that day and remembers. To bad his family has so tarnished his memory. Posted by: Nevergiveup at November 22, 2013 09:27 AM (t3UFN) Too bad history isn't taught accurately. Kennedy broke his word to the Cuban forces sent to invade Cuba resulting in their death and capture. As a result of the botched invasion, Castro demanded the Russians move missiles into Cuba, which the Russians did, thereby creating a dire threat to us. Kennedy CAUSED the crises which damn near got 30+ million Americans killed. He then traded our missile bases in Greece for the Russian missiles in Cuba, and he misled everyone as to what actually occurred. Kennedy made big blunders, which seems to be the usual outcome whenever we have a "Genius" President.

91 The odd thing, of course, is the connection LHO had with Noo Awlins.  He went to junior high here and then to what would later be my high school, for a semester -- before he dropped out.  Then we've all seen the footage of him handing out "Fair Play for Cuba" flyers in downtown NO in the summer of '63.  I was 10 and wouldn't remember, but he and I might have passed each other on the street.

On one of those nighttime "Haunted New Orleans" tours some years ago, the tour guide tried to tell us that the LHO also went to my elementary school in the French Quarter.  Not possible; he and his mother were living in New York when he was that age.

Ugh, yes. After years of living in MA I have had more than my fill of Kennedy adulation. My BIL worked for one of the lesser Kennedy's - Bobby's drunk son who got caught having a 5yr affair with the babysitter - the guy was a mess. Came to work drunk, not even bothering to tuck his shirt in properly. Heard stories about other Kennedys behaving badly. That family launched the War on Women.

So our shop payroll week runs Thurs to Wed. Men turn in their timecards on Thurs morning, checks are ready by end of day. All their paychecks came out correctly, THANK GOD. However, she then has to fill out a "time sheet". She records how many hours are spent on each job that week. That's, obv, how my grandfather keeps track of the work we're doing. It was fucked all to hell. One job on there twice. One not at all. Hours all over the place. So he calls her in this morning and basically says, "This is wrong. Completely. Start over." Of course he takes 15 minutes to do this, like only grandpa can. She's flustered and all out of sorts. You know, instead of just going "I'm sorry. I'll fix it." So now her day is fucked, she's nuts anyway and this has thrown her out of sync. I hand her a letter to type. It says: Dear X, At the request of your superintendent we completed work in Suite 101 that was not in our original scope of work. The cost of the extra work was $850.00 If you have any questions, please give me a call. Sincerely, BCochran1981 Project Manager. Oddly enough i've been making that very mistake for years. I simply can't wrap my head around the possibility that we ever had nuclear missiles in an Islamic country in the first place. The point remains, Kennedy damn near got a lot of people killed because he didn't do the right thing regarding the Cuban invasion. I have personally spoken to men who were on Navy ships off the coast of Cuba, and who had been told that they would be providing support to the Cuban freedom fighters, and then they were told to stand down. (Benghazi, but a thousand times worse.) They told me how they listened to the cries for help from the Cubans we sent there to die, and they told me how ashamed and frustrated they felt at having to Obey the orders not to help. Kennedy was scum. It cannot be pointed out too often that he was scum. He was just pretty and well spoken scum, but he was scum none the less. He was a perfect representation of that evil family from whence he came.

148 92 The odd thing, of course, is the connection LHO had with Noo Awlins. --- A family friend once told us a story related to Oswald. Apparently her father's jewelry store in New Orleans was once listed as an address for Oswald in some file. As a result, the FBI was tapping their phones for years, well after Oswald died.

172 It kind of sounds like you are really saying that Obama is not competent, and he needed the GOP to sign on to his project in order for it to be done well, because with the GOP comes competence. Since the GOP didn't help, but at the same time was unable to actively hinder development of the website since they weren't involved, the failure is all the Democrats. So if the competent GOP had participated, then you think it would have worked.

Your reasoning goes against your explicit point, but I get what you were really saying, even under the partisan B.S. The GOP is competent, and the Democrats can't accomplish anything on their own, they need a willing GOP to help them get things done. The GOP, on the other hand, can get things done with or without the Democrats. That is the point you have proven.

Posted by: polynikes at November 22, 2013 10:02 AM (m2CN7) I never said that. Calm down. All I was pointing out was accurate history. The Jupiter Missiles in Turkey were an after thought for the Soviets. The main reason they wanted to base Soviet ICBMs in Cuba was because their Missile technology was still subpar and their ICMBs were very limited in carry weight limits and distance. Their ICBMS really did not have the ability to reach the continental United States. That is why they tried to base ICBMS in Cuba. The missiles in Turkey are a side show.

194 Communist bogeymen, Mafia bogeymen, Islamic bogeymen, always a bogeyman. I use the KISS approach. Whoever gets put out there as the culprit, it ain't that guy. Kennedy was a Catholic and powerful Catholics don't have a long shelf life. Could it be the same people that took out Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots, took out the Kennedy's?The same people that took down Nixon. The same people that sent Clinton and Mel Gibson angels with oral skills. The same people that shoved the current President down our throats. The same people who protect the birthplace of Jesus. The same people that collate these comments. Same same same. The people that run the world. The people that created Israel. The knights templar the protestant Judeo Christian power elite. The creators of the Windsor knot. People with names like Edward, Elizabeth, Phillip, William, George, Margaret, Henry, Richard, Charles. The people who run things around here the way they want things run or else. Not that there's anything wrong with it. We are better off for having those people running things if you want my honest opinion. They have kept us from splintering into rival tribes. Too bad about John and Bob Kennedy but they could have done a better job of keeping their religious opinions to themselves, especially Bob who let it known of his dislike of ahem Judeo Protestants. A man has to know his limits.

Dan Rather came to national prominence at CBS with his coverge of JFK's murder.

A lie he told, which persists to this day, was about school children at a Dallas elementary school cheering when they heard about his death. The truth is the kids did cheer, but they were only told school was ending early that day. They were not told why.

Rather also claims to be an ex-Marine. He was actually kicked out of boot camp for medical reasons. He never graduated. On some military forums, former Marines have speculated the real reason he was kicked out was for bed wetting. Heh, I'd love to hear someone ask him that just so he could respond with; "I'm not a bed wetter!"

Dad was there for that one, too.  He says the same thing.  A few years later he was on the USS Turner and went into the Black Sea; two US destroyers alone in the Soviet Navy's private playground.

Dad seemed to have a knack in the 60s for ending up where shit almost spiraled out of control.  He almost got sent to Vietnam, but my uncle pulled some strings to keep that from happening...evidently someone, somewhere bought into my uncle's reasoning of, "Hey, I'm here for my third tour.  You don't need to send my brother over here, too; especially at the same time I'm here."  We actually didn't find out that happened until my uncle told us a few years ago.  All Dad ever knew was his orders got mysteriously rescinded.  I suspect it was all a part of the "The Sullivans" policy.

The way Republicans can win those in the middle is not by abandoning their principles. To the contrary, the courage to stand on principle is what these voters respect. The way to win the center is to lead.

That's why those arguing that conservatives have to "moderate" their views if they want to appeal to the country are so wrong. If our principles were the problem, then why are so many Republican governors winning elections by campaigning on them? Since Barack Obama took office in 2009, the GOP has gone from controlling both the legislature and governor's mansion in nine states to 23 states today. Not one sitting Republican governor has lost a general election since 2007.

Republicans did not win those races by running from principles. They won by applying principles in ways that are relevant to the lives of citizens.

237 ObamaCare was supposed to boost competition among insurers, increasing options and lowering rates for consumers.

"My guiding principle is, and always has been, that consumers do better when there is choice and competition," President Obama said in a September 2009 speech laying out his vision for the Affordable Care Act.

"Unfortunately, in 34 states, 75% of the insurance market is controlled by five or fewer companies," he added. "In Alabama, almost 90% is controlled by just one company."

But his solution — government-run health exchanges — has so far only worsened the problem.

"The president's health-care law has almost completely failed to increase insurance market competition," concluded a new Heritage Foundation study.

More than half of the U.S. now has two or fewer insurers on the exchange, the study found. In many states a single carrier enjoys a monopoly due to ObamaCare.

The enrollment period, previously scheduled to begin Oct. 15, 2014, will now start Nov. 15, said an official with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services who asked not to be identified because the decision isnÂ’t public. Suited band of brothers stands up for unstoppable 6-year old

WCVB, Boston:  http://tinyurl.com/kyay8l7

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. —When Danny Keefe was born, his parents were told he would be severely handicapped both physically and mentally due to a serious brain hemorrhage.

But the dapper little boy with the infectious smile and indomitable spirit defied those predictions, the Enterprise reported.

The Mitchell Elementary School kindergartner is just like any other 6-year-old in every way but two, his grandfather Richard Osterman said.

Danny speaks with difficulty due to childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) and he wears a suit and tie every day by his own choosing.

...

So, when the quarterback, Tommy Cooney, heard Danny was getting picked on because of the way he speaks, he took it upon himself to do something about it.

The 11-year-old Williams Intermediate School fifth-grader decided to wear a suit to school just like Danny in a show of support for his young friend...

268 I was in class in the third grade when the news reports of Kennedy being shot were broadcast over the loudspeaker. A couple of things stand out in my recollection as an almost 9 year old growing up in the Boston area in an Irish Catholic household: Non stop TV coverage all weekend (it happened on a Friday) in an extremely subdued tone that had everyone transfixed in stunned silence. I remember immediately tuning in to the reactions of adults around me, from the nuns, to the school bus driver, to my parents. And there were NO explanations, patient, terse or otherwise. Just stunned silence as everyone sat glued to reports. I also remember being astonished at the announcement that there would be no NFL games that Sunday. As a young boy and big football fan at the time, that seemed serious. The riderless horse with the backwards boot at the funeral march seemed surreal The sense the everything was suddenly different was palpable even to a young kid. Strange, unforgettable series of events and impressions.

283 RE: the Walker piece, again. Voters voting for a state office is much more personal, for lack of a better word. They may see their vote as making more of a difference, and what Walker did directly effected the economy and health of their state (i.e. them). It also shows the power of the state and its people. People see the federal government as a huge waste, a cumbersome leviathan that gets nothing done, with an endless supply of (tax) money. Filled with bribes and backdoor deals. Completely corrupt and insurmountable. The pure ideologues are fighting those battles. The dichotomy of the Walker vs JEF votes/wins also shows that fraud and bullying can be much more controlled at a state level. As well as the infusion of campaign contributions. The political dissonance was dissolved depending on the position voting for. At the state level, it is much more personal. At the federal level - it's hollywood actor reviews.

323 So with respect to Democrats despicable filibuster change here's my theory.

Democrats will ram through their nominees and load the judiciary with ultra-liberal judges. Once it is apparent they will lose the senate and continue to get crushed in the House they will reverse course.

The bet it that Republicans will not change the rules back or expand it to SCOTUS once they are in power.

And you know what? They are right.

Republicans don't have the balls or the lock-step cohesiveness it takes to wield power in a manner that will reverse course and teach Democrats that such moves cut both ways and should never be used again. They will block themselves in an attempt to restore balance. The John McCain types (with Lindsey Graham in tow) will come out of the woodwork with the mantra of "we are better than that" or some such nonsense.

Bottom line it was an extra constitutional, ballsy move and Republicans don't have the stones to address it in any substantive way.

This is why I hate the Republican Party. Nobody fights for us, Nobody.

The riderless horse with the backwards boot at the funeral march seemed surreal

I remember  watching that as well.  Mummy Dearest, a dyed-in-the-wool DixieCrat,  cried  a  lot.    All I knew  was that something bad happened.

The shots that rang out that day were the first ones fired in  the   Cultural War.  The psychological shock  was one we never really recovered  from  and left us vulnerable to   our  enemy,  who was   bold enough to tell us exactly   what they were going to do to us, and then did it.  Their  tactics were common knowledge, so much so that they were read into the Congressional Register in 1963.

No further shots were needed.  Our collective  consciousness was conquered, our  former  values  and   principles   were   mocked and attacked by the media operatives  until  we arrived at this point in our history where we are virtually a Socialist country ruled by tyrants.  The will of the People is no more.

We have lost so much of our freedom since that day  that I   could   weep for what  once  was   America.

One thing you gotta say about that movie, the supporting roles were well cast.  Not Costner as DA Garrison; Garrison looked like a dark-haired version of James Arness, nothing like Costner.  But Gary Oldman as Oswald,  Joe Pesci as Ferrie, Brian Doyle-Murray as Jack Ruby, and Tommy Lee Jones as Clay Shaw -- they looked very much like the original people.

I knew some great high school grads and college freshmen who volunteered to help the indigent with American technical expertise through their own manual labor constructing wells, schools, clinics while residing in the same standard of living as those being voluntarily helped. Obama's unconstitutional and illegal Policy Reenacts Slavery (Rules? We leaders don't need to comply. But you must submit. Now, and give it over and give up, suckers. My horde promotes the post-constitutional era. So there. We say it's over.)

347 I was too young to understand Kennedy's assassination, but other than Kennedy's lip service to reduced taxes and support of the space program, I can't understand the deification of the man either. He served as president for not quite two years. We now know that not only were there the public crisis, but behind the scenes the man was a major philanderer(no problems with being blackmailed?) and he had major health problems that were kept from the public. Not the least of which were his prescribed cocktails of pain meds and ampheatimines for chronic back pain, his Addison disease, etc. So why the continuous need to make the man seem like he was beyond reproach and his assassination was the worst thing that happened to this country ever. Worse than the civil war, worse than 9/11, etc.

348 284 Regularizing 10 to 20 million low-skilled foreigners while unemployment is north of 7%, and black male unemployment is at 25%, is insane. And racist to boot.

Then the tactic is to accuse the pro amnesty rinos for racism. "Why punish black americans?"

349 If Comcast/GE/NBC monopoly media monopoly isn't one of they first orders of business for the next Republican Atty General then you will know the real power, the power that will assassinate you in broad daylight or kidnap your kid is bigger than the American political system. George Washington is starting to look like Ronald Reagan. His revolution will have failed

Just saw on Drudge where McConnell thinks the Tea Party is a "Bunch of bullies" who need a "punch in the nose".

While I appreciate the fighting spirit, I really wish his angst and aggression was aimed in the proper direction.....

351 37 What you say is correct but old Lee hit what he was aiming at in real time with a not the best bolt action in the world Carcano with the sweat and pressure on. Kinda like old Carlos Hathcock after the NVA but with a magic bullet...

352 The amazing thing is republicans, for the 50th time, will allow JFK to be killed in Dallas and not lift a finger to stop it. Again.
