9/11 Open Thread

I suppose I should write something profound but I don't have anything to say, honestly.

At Mediaite, a writer complains that the public talking about Jimmy Kimmel's Twerk Prank instead of important stuff like Syria, in an article which itself entirely about Jimmy Kimmel's Twerk Prank and not about Syria.

But last night, Avalon, enjoying her well-earned success (keeping up the gag as friends and ex-boyfriends called her about her embarrassing twerk fail couldnÂ’t have been fun), appeared on Entertainment Tonight. Number of twerking references: 7. Number of Miley Cyrus references: 2. Number of Syria references: 0.

Number of Syria references in an article making the point that we're not talking about Syria: 1, right there, you just saw it.

By the way, why would Entertainment Tonight be discussing Syria? Have they changed format secretly? Is the show's format now "The latest from Hollywood... and Foggy Bottom"?

Eh. Writers gotta write, I guess.

And sneerers gotta sneer. Via Hot Air, Kaus notes that Paul Krugman presents himself as a hardworking, deepthinking wonk... in a shamefully lazy and erroneous column in which the greatest effort went into a simple partisan sneer.

Cornell West isn't sure if 9/11 was an Inside Job, but he sure likes "Raising Questions." He likes to keep an Open Mind, you see.

Meanwhile, Ron Paul, who's Raising Some questions of his own tonight at an organization which Questions the Math on the Holocaust (or... Holoclaim), says 9/11 was nothing but blowback for our imperial adventurism.

Um, no, that's the pretext. Islamofascist psychopathy is fundamentally psychological in nature. It is an ideology of the deranged which uses a Hero Fantasy to give succor and meaning to a Soul in Shame. It's not quite true that they hate our freedoms primarily-- they hate those, but not primarily. They hate, in ascending order, our Wealth, our Success, and our Might.

The weak man always secretly hates the strong man, and the deranged weak man sets about doing something about it. And I don't mean "useful steps towards self-improvement."

Crediting Al Qaeda's stated reasons for attacking us is like crediting the stated reasons of a Stalker who shows up at your door with a knife and says "You shouldn't have gone to my supermarket." Yes, that's the stated reason, the pretext, but the real reason is an unreasoning hate and an obsessive thirst for vengeance for slights both real and mostly imagined.

Imagine if the police told you at this point: "He's quite right, you know. You shouldn't have gone to his supermarket. What were you thinking, provoking him like that?"

You'd call that cop an idiot, wouldn't you?

When a murderous organization is citing The Mighty Snubbings of the 11th Century as part of its case in chief against you, you may safely assume that they simply hate you for irrational reasons quite apart from the ones they're offering. Those reasons are only offered to make their lunacy seem a bit more lucid. And perhaps to hide their real reasons from hatred even from themselves. Their egos could not accept the truth.

Anyone still citing the Shame of Vienna as a justification for murder isn't an example of blowback. It's an example of lunacy. And yes, we need to diagnose lunatics... but we don't permit them to self-diagnose and then take their diagnosis as accurate.

Meanwhile, our State and Federal governments are continuing to perform their duties with all the professionalism and intelligence that you've come to expect.

And now, Mishka, who is apparently the most famous dog on the internet. Her owner makes a lot of videos of her, and then they get 500,000 or 6 million or 12 million views each.

Apparently the owner thinks the dog talks. Which I sort of get, as sometimes dogs do seem to talk.

Why do those dog videos get so many hits? I have a friend who owns a husky. His dog does exactly the same thing. It never struck me as anything more than quirky and amusing in a cute I-really-like-dogs sorta way.

But I assume that's just what the breed does.

I can't speak for those who have forgotten, but I am reminded almost every day. I can see the WTC site from my town, and also whenever I drive into NYC.

A dozen people from my little town died in the Towers, and people around here do remember.

The maudlin wallowing in self-pity is irritating, but a cold and calculated reminder that we should never let it happen again is perfectly reasonable.

Her son, my son's best friend, is named after him and the school where our kids go named the street leading to campus after Dan as well. I'm reminded every day. Five were on AA Flt 77 which hit the Pentagon and three were on UA Flt 175 which hit the South Tower. Their ages ranged from 2 to 11 years. There were also about a dozen women known to be pregnant who were killed that day.

  Met a biker dude and his girlfriend at the Chapaquidik(sp?) rest area on the way to NJ today.... he said the PoPo estimagated the bikers riding through DC to be around 860,000 in toto.... not bad considering they didn't really have much time to organize the ride in response to the million muslim march or whatevs they were calling that march..

 

  ...the organizers of the bike ride were hoping for two million bikers riding through the capital in support of the troops and in memory of those that lost their lives on 9/11...I'm not sure how many Muslims showed up for their march against Muslim hate speech or march against the burning of Mosques or whatever they were protesting on 9/11...

 

  I wait for the MSM to tell me what to think about these two events...

Sometimes the flight that didn't get to its destination gets back-burnered, while it a real sense it was the great victory of the day, and one of the earliest miracles of modern warfare communications at the same time. Extraordinary everyday people knew what was going on, and, like it says, fought back. And we really have no reason to say otherwise than that they won.

I was working outside and it really was a beautiful day. My co-worker went back to the car and for some reason turned on the radio. It was all over the radio. The towers were already down and he started yelling to me about it. I ran back to the car and listened until they started repeating themselves.

I was struggling with setting a side pin and let it go about two tenths of a foot off, which is real sloppy. Then we set the back corner in a hurry.

Somebody has a slightly crooked side line on his property today.

I wanted to take the rest of the day off (I was dying for news) but the boss wanted to finish the day. We got about half of what we normally would have done.

After I got home I watched more buildings fall. The enormity of it all stunned me.

That's all I got.

Gotta add that I really despise Truethers.

I look at it this way.  Rand has lived with his dad his entire life.  He's not only heard it all, he's lived it all. Yet, somehow he's not a clone of his dad, he's his own critical thinking successful person who maintains a wonderful.  loving, respectful and understanding relationship with his dad and it shows.  Anyone with that much patience and understanding and humanness has got to make a great president.  Rand seems to be able to hear and process all sides of an issue and decide what he thinks independently.   Ron Paul and his wife have done a great job raising their kids, rand is an example of a successful parenting job.

303 Tonight I commemorated September 11th by seeing Yakov Smirnoff at Capitol City Comedy in Austin.  He reminisced about how awesome Reagan was, and how amazing America is to anyone who has lived experiences such as his.  I gained a refreshing satisfaction in the discomfort that his patriotic and conservative sentiment imposed on a crowd that was most likely 80% liberal, which is the general composition of all Austin nightlife.  It's satisfying because they all know his words are true, but leftist illusions forbid them from acknowledging that truth ever since the last time the illusion was shattered on this day twelve years ago.
