Every time I think I'm close to choosing between Gingrich and Santorum then I see something else that throws me back into my indecision. I won't vote for mittens as I take my vote seriously and I'm not voting for a cult member who is buying the presidency. Plus my gut feeling says not to vote for him. About that Alec Baldwin thing. Isn't it a crime to threaten to fuck somebody up? In my home state Indiana, for example, if I tell somebody I'm going to hurt them/hit them/make them cry like a little girl, that's assault (I think), and then if I go through with it and pound them into the ground like a tent peg, that's battery. If I use a weapon and/or cause major, life-threatening damage, then battery escalates to felony country with aggravated assault or attempted murder.

 

Not a lawyer and I've mellowed considerably since my more, er, colorful youth and no longer find myself in such situations, so I'm not really sure. Maybe one of the horde attorneys could put me to some knowledge. Shouldn't this self-entitled, batshit-crazy celebrity be behind bars?

They could have put someone up there who simply approved everything (declaring the panel itself incapable of making the recommendations necessary.)

 

On the flip side, the scuttlebutt is that no one in the field wants to touch it with a 10-foot pole (even the liberals.)  I get the same vibe at my annual conferences, no one's politicking to get on the IPAB (like they are to get on every other board.)

In Texas as the law is normally applied, if you pick a fight and start losing, you don't get to escalate the violence (that is: start shooting) UNLESS you attempt to extract yourself from the violence and either cannot do so (say, if someone is on top of you "ground pounding" you), or the person follows you and reinitiates the violence. Now, that may or may not be a strict "as written" interpretation, but it is how the law tends to be enforced. I wonder if if Florida is (normally) the same?

The biggest mistake we ever made (and Palin is in part responsible for this) was letting the dems subtly swap the IPAB for the counseling sessions during the "death Panel debate."

Hell, I read most of the bill, and the first time through I missed the significance of the IPAB buried under the rest of the crap. (Frankly on first pass it looked like another toothless panel to make recommendations on costs savings, which could come from many places without stopping treatment types.)

The conversation was stolen from us and we made no attempt to replace it.

It's been a while so I don't remember the source, sorry, but I understood that Zimmerman claimed the reason he ended up shooting Martin was because he was afraid that in the scuffle Martin had felt the gun and would use it on him. In other words, if accurate, Zimmerman was willing to be beaten severely but not to be shot with his own gun (which is fair). He certainly took a fair amount of damage before being willing to pull the trigger.

Laptops don't have a lot of room for fans and heat-sinks, so they're not as good at dissipating the heat as desktops. That's the why. No, you can't do anything about it. If the issue is that you're setting your laptop on your lap and it's uncomfortable, there are a variety of lapdesks available.

CPU and graphics processor are probably running at max and the power management won't be kicked in.

I got a couple of 1/4" thick wood shims I spaced mine off the desk with so there's some air flow underneath.

Home Depot sells some real cheap wood yard sticks for like $1 that would be perfect for the task.  There's more expensive fancy fan equipped laptop cradles of course too, but the wood shims seem to work just fine.

Yeah, try cleaning it (I prefer canned air to vacuuming, because vacuuming CAN (not "will" but "can") cause electrostatic discharge (it's rare, but it happens), and then you no longer have a laptop, you have a very large, very expensive paperweight. If you are going to vacuum, get one with fairly low suction. Depending on the age of the machine, you may just need a new one, though. Processing requirements keep going up, and it's hard for older processors to keep up. Also, just like any machine made of moving parts (the fact the parts move on a microscopic scale is irrelevant), eventually the bits just get old and worn out.

Might try reducing the display color depth to 16-bit.  That should ~halve the amount of data getting sloshed around at the expense of seeing some modest color banding in the video.

Human eyes can resolve a bit more than 16-bits of color, but nowhere near 32 or 24 used in "true color" modes.

I'd suggest getting a "Chill Mat."  One of those things you place under your laptop that has some fans that run off of USB.  That might help your pc run at a lower temperature so that when you do load up video and it ramps up the temperature won't spike as high.
