Ugh: Dutch Group Creates Virtual 10-Year-Old Pedophile Lure Named "Sweetie;"
Gets Requests from 1000 Men All Over The World For Sex Acts Over Ten Weeks

— Ace

I'm actually a little surprised anyone fell for this. "Sweetie" looks fake.

Eh. Maybe the low-res nature of the webcam masks the falseness of the virtual lure.

I'm putting up this post as a change-of-pace. Then we'll finish off with more Obamacare.

— An international children's rights group said on Monday it had passed details of 1,000 alleged Internet sex offenders to Interpolafter trawling video chatrooms with the aid of a computer-generated 10-year-old Filipina 'girl' named Sweetie.

...

The largest contingents of named suspects on the dossier came from the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, Germany, Turkey, Italy and the Netherlands. In all, the charity identified suspects in 71 countries.

Here's a very tricky legal question: What do you do when these sorts of virtual child porn programs are ready for consumer sale?

Bear in mind, no actual children would be harmed in their making. It's something that grosses people out, but unlike actual child porn, which begins with an actual child victim, a computer-model child porn program would not have any actual victims.

I know people's reaction will be "criminalize it anyway," but I'm not sure that's quite right. Odious as this sexual derangement might be, a computer program for pedophiles would have no actual victim and no actual crime in it.

People will say "It encourages pedophiles to seek out real victims," but I'm not sure that's true. There are a lot of men not seeking prostitutes or raping women just because they have a safe alternative (the ubiquity of porn).

Actually... I just remembered there was already a legal controversy about the criminalization of computer-generated child porn. The Supreme Court upheld the ban, 7-2, despite this not making a great deal of sense.

Video about the Sweetie sting below -- as this is about child pornography, there is a NSFW advisory.

Again, I don't get it. It looks like a fake computer model. Although Harry Reid just emailed me to say, "This is the most exciting technology I've ever seen."

44 There has been a significant decline in rape just as porn became ubiquitous. Rapists skew heavily as poor losers with violence and mental health problems. The type of man that women avoid and refuse to be alone with, cause they seem like potential rapists, cause they are. Rapists commit rape when they get horny. Ubiquitous porn tends to relieve the horniness.

55 Ace, I'd note this though. We don't consider wanting sex a disease or mental illness. The exact opposite is true for pedophilia, so I think that's some of the animus behind making it illegal.

Posted by: tsrblke, PhD(c) (tablet) at November 04, 2013 01:23 PM (a8eFL)

56

Criminalize it anyway. Anything that can hurt a pedophile or put one behind bars is an entirely good thing. I honestly believe such people are beyond the pale of humanity and are outlaws in the old English common law sense of the word. Recividist pedophiles should be executed: three strikes and you're dead.

Of course, none of my beliefs matter however extreme some might view them, but as a point of argument: what happens when artificial CGI child porn is indistinguishable from the real thing? We're only a few years away from that point. What then? Is it still okay, given that not even experts will be able to tell real from fake?

Never view these child-raping monsters as victims of anything, ever. Ever.

59 Not to worry.

We're not so far off from the day when ageist becomes the new racist, and "intergenerational intimacy" undergoes the same "cultural norming" that other perversions have been remade into "socially acceptable" by.

We're already seeing "progressive" judges giving their opinion by giving as minimal a sentence as possible to offenders whenever possible.

The American Psycho Association tried to lay the ground work in their diagnostic bible some years ago by defining both pedophilia and pederasty as sexual orientations. Such definition was in a blatant attempt to lay the groundwork to have sex with children benefit from the same legislation that protects other abnormal sex practices.

There is a hew and cry already ongoing that says "the Greeks did it! How bad can it be, since they invented civilization!!!"
And various of the usual suspects that claim that it's actually good for children since it also involves special "mentorship" of the children by their users.

Worry not! We're not much far away from the day when confronting the molester of your own children or grandchildren will be a bone fide hate crime.

75 I don't think your analogy is exactly right, ace. I think a more exact analogy would be "does rapey pr0n increase the desire to be rapey?" I don't know the answer, but I suspect I do. There are a lot of really jaded pr0n viewers out there that are technically still virgins. From what I understand they're pretty broken psychologically because a normal relationship is slower, less tailored to whatever their kink has become. I imagine some guy that's only into crush pr0n may have a hard time being in a normal, loving, giving relationship. I think there are enough marginal people out there who are susceptible to needing harder and harder stuff to titillate themselves into climax. Giving the world (or the USA) the legal permission to include digital children into the selection mix is not something I think that should be done.

139 It seems to me that the question to answer here is "does it, on average, reduce the incidence of REAL child abuse?".  As you suggest, Ace, it is probably the case that the universal availability of porn is in large measure responsible for the decrease in rape.  As odious as it is, such material may have a good effect.  Based on the recidivism rates, it is certainly the case that jail does not solve the problem (unless, of course, offenders are jailed for life or simply disposed of)

I say this as the father of 4 daughters, who would like to see child molesters strung up by the testicles.  (me, not the daughters)

Also, increasingly the various definitions of "date rape" are slipping closer and closer to "sex" instead of "violence".  iirc, Julian Assange was charged with rape because he said he was using a condom, and didn't - which is defined as rape in whichever Scandanavian country the incident took place in.

147 Another aspect might be "vulgar Leftism's" (as opposed to "sophisticated, academic Leftism's") interest in demonizing the mentally ill as a group, and the idea that mentally ill people are interested in sex with children would be an efficient way to do so. One supposes that in the future, history will be revised so that Hitler/Mussolini will have been the most promiscuous pedosexual of all. Posted by: Mirror-Universe Mitt Romney at November 04, 2013 01:48 PM (wAloV)

148 If you look at the stats, its increasingly difficult to make the "rape isn't about sex" argument. The victims are primarily in the young and breedable age. If its just about violence and power then they would go after either children or old ladies. Its about sex. It is also about power, but that old cop show canard of not being about sex is just psychobabble, and I suspect the origin is a need to stop anything bad from being associated with sex at any level. For modern social left, sex is the holy, it is the ultimate, it is all we are born for and live for. You can't have anything get in the way of the holy quest of getting laid or make people feel bad about it.

That would not apply to someone offering up fake child porn if they labeled it as fake. Although, I suppose that for some, knowing it was fake would make them lose interest.

This could be the trigger that pushes the one who is excited by child porn into acting upon it. Reprehensible.

I would point out that the decline of the family and society in general was accelerated dramatically by the availability of porn in all forms, and the subsequent objectification and devaluation of the human person. Now most women's magazines show soft core porn between the covers, airbrushed and objectified to the extreme. This is not good for women, and it is not good for men.

Before Jerry Sandusky and the Penn State thing, I could not tell you of ONE occurrence in the state of Pennsylvania during my lifetime. But it hits some peoples HOT button. 170 Also, increasingly the various definitions of "date rape" are slipping closer and closer to "sex" instead of "violence". iirc, Julian Assange was charged with rape because he said he was using a condom, and didn't - which is defined as rape in whichever Scandinavian country the incident took place in. I saw a case out of California where a couple were having consensual sex, and the girl says, "I've got to go." The guy finishes up about 30 seconds later. He got convicted of rape. You see she withdrew consent when she said, "I have to go."

I think this "rape is not sex" meme is utterly absurd. Sex can be good, bad, pleasant, unpleasant, exciting, boring, loving, violent, etc., etc., depending on the circumstances. It's still sex. If rape really is not about sex, let's just call it aggravated assault and not call the perp a "sex offender." If getting off on diddling a child is not a sex crime, what do you call it?

Apparently its pretty common and worse often goes unreported. Here in Texas there is a website that shows who is a sex offender and where and you can read an overview of the charge.

Some are the bullshit variety like the innocent pics, and some are the "he was 19, she was 17" type, but a lot are pretty bad.

177 Actually... I just remembered there was already a legal controversy about the criminalization of computer-generated child porn. The Supreme Court upheld the ban,7-2, despite this not making a great deal of sense.
---

I think it makes sense.  The law prohibits mere possession of child porn so therefore they are addressing an evil other than victimizing children by producing child porn.  The thought is the father of the deed.

As someone mentioned above, there was a guy who wrote down his sexual fantasies involving children and his probation was revoked for possessing that.  No indication that he was attempting to sell it or anything.  It's just that using such stimulus is just plain wrong and dangerous.

I had a case a couple of years ago which involved a website where you can send them pictures of some child you are interested in and they will photoshop that child's head onto child pornography for you so you can get off on watching you neighbor's seven year old.

Funny, isn't it, how the Church may have been right all along. Any time you take away the actual purpose of sex, you are saying that pleasure overrides all other concerns, and who determines what is pleasurable? Any pervert will do that, and it will only get worse.

We end up with women who think they have to put out to find a man, and then can't figure out why no man respects her because she has become a cum-dumpster. Same for your average gay man, and it all leads to self-loathing and worse self-instructive behavior. Viola: the liberal and libertine paradise.

188 149 If you look at the stats, its increasingly difficult to make the "rape isn't about sex" argument. 189 If it's just about violence and power they'd go after children and old ladies ---- Erm. This whole thread started with the arrest of men who would go after children. Besides, children and old ladies and old men are also raped in tribal violence and war. Rape is sometimes about sex (and poor impulse control, unwillingness to recognize another person's desires and rights as equal to your own) but an awful lot is about violence. It depends on the rapist, I suppose. As for virtual child porn...I hate the idea, but punishing it in some cases does seem to verge into thought crime. Chris Hansen stings are one thing, but virtual child porn, harming no child, and not involving a plan to harm a real child seems different.

It isn't an almost nonexistent problem. Because you haven't heard much about it does not make it almost nonexistent. It does, however, make you uniformed. Look up, for example, Nigel Oldfield, convicted sex offender from Manchester, England. Nigel goes by (or went by) the moniker of 'WMCritest' on a number of websites such as YouTube. Prior to his conviction, Nigel got his kicks by watching videos of little girls being violently raped, and--based on the number of his online contacts--Nigel evidently has a lot of like-minded friends, who in turn comprise an international network numbering in the thousands. Highly educated and articulate, Oldfield likes publicity and has appeared under his own name on a few TV talk shows and radio programs to push for lowering of the age of consent laws in the UK.

Several years ago, I searched out Nigel's home address (he was careless once and that's all it took) and then emailed it to every adult sex abuse survivor's group in the UK that I could find.  No regrets.

213 According to ace, then wouldn't the cartoons be enough to convict? Posted by: Jollyroger at November 04, 2013 05:20 PM (t06LC) According to Wikipedia (a true godsend to those of us who never earned their GED in law), the PROTECT act of 2003 criminalized "a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon, sculpture or painting" of children engaged in sexual acts. There is an exception for anything that isn't "obscene," that is, if it has some sort of redeeming value, but I suspect that's a "no true Scotsman" sort of qualifier. "If it has redeeming value" keeps SCOTUS from squashing it the way CPPA was, but no court or law enforcement jurisdiction will ever recognize something like that to have "redeeming value." FYI, apparently there are already cases where men have gone to jail for possession of hentai depicting minors (and one case bizarrely involving Simpsons characters), although apparently it varies state by state. I'm not sure how much longer I want to think about this.

A quick glance at the sex offender registry of Pennsylvania (and every other state) would prove to any reasonable person that (a) there are thousands of men and women across the country (and by implication across the planet) who are sexually attracted to minors and act on that attraction; and (b) those who are caught are just a segment of that total population, which means the problem is not non-existent.

Of course, the (c) in that argument is that you're a contrarian asshole who hates being proven wrong more than anything.

Straw man: no one is advocating the arrest of anyone for thoughtcrime. However, certain acts, such as the production and sale of drawn or rendered child pornography, have been traditionally banned because the intent of the act constituted depravity. For example, cockfighting has been banned in--to my knowledge--all states, yet chicken farms are still very much in business even though the result in both instances, chicken farms and cockfighting arenas, is dead chickens.

But hey, no worries: I'm sure drawn and rendered child pornography indistinguishable from the genuine article will soon be legal and available, and a few years after, once the door opens a little wider, so will children. Pedophiles are exceedingly well organized, well funded, and very committed. The more degraded a society becomes, the fewer people there will be to stand against them.
