— Open Blogger Aaron Swartz was an internet activist and developer who hung himself on Friday. This talk below that he gave will be a more enduring legacy than any software he ever made, or any of the crimes he's been accused of.
Ignore the hipster douchebag affectations and pay attention to what he's saying. He lays out a process by which irresistible force can be resisted even when the media is NOT on your side. Its not theoretical, it worked.
When the video started, I was groaning for the first 20 seconds or so, which of course was due to my biases and preconceptions about this young man, but then he drew me in...and 20 minutes had elapsed before I knew it.

8 Is there a transcript of Aaron Swartz's talk?
Better yet, can some give us a short summary?
He talks about how 'Copyright Infringement' could be the way of censoring the Internet...that some have been looking for.
And how 'copyrights' are...everywhere.
He talks about how he set out to stop the copyright infringement legislation that was in congress, in 2010...SOPA.
And how what he did, was effective.
Mocking the Tyranny of it...is what was effective.

Swartz makes some really good points about 'copyright infringement'...
While it can be "theft" as some point out...the freedom to share information on the Internet, should not be infringed.
It is sooo easy to be guilty of 'copyright infringement'...often without realizing that you are doing it.
He points out, that even Orin Hatch was found to have infringed on some copyrighted material...in what he filed in Congress, in support of SOPA!
The problem with enforcing a new law about 'copyright infringement' on the Internet...is that the potential is there to effectively shut down a lot of information-sharing and blogging that is going on.
In pointing out the Tyranny of SOPA...Swartz says that the whole subject is now so toxic, that no one in Congress even wants to bring it up now.

It's been a while, since they tried to ram through some gun-control legislation.
Part of the reason why the R's were able to take both houses of Congress, back in 1994...was the ban on AR's that Clinton signed.
And now...with so many people becoming 'preppers', and arming themselves like never before...it is really stoopid for the Dems to be talking about any sort of gun-grabbing.

Suicide is for heathens. They don't believe in God. They don't believe in prayer.
I will pray for the guy who commits suicide. Perhaps he was mentally ill and didn't know what he was doing. But for all the egotists out there that break the hearts of their families and friends and run away there is no repentance once it is too late.

Suicide is a tragedy on many folds.
Two things are certain:
1) the worst may yet be to come
2) you wake up until you don't
I can't believe a person casually leaves those people behind.

I had a lifetime girlfriend commit suicide last year. Left 2 kids, a loving husband. She had serious depression and would not seek help even with all of us urging her. She was raised "Pick Yourself up by your own bootstraps" and we could not convince her otherwise.
Her children are devasted and will of course never be the same. I loved her and feel compassion but I'm really still angry at her too.

The line about "congress never works like this", referencing normal gridlock, doesn't seem to recognize its totalitarian nature if left to its own devices unnoticed.
Normal sausage making has little to do with naked power grabs.
I supposed if he wasn't a 2nd Amendment advocate recent slambang efforts wouldn't have bothered him so much, but internet freedom certainly has been critical in that regard.

Suicide...is one of those things that has 'degrees', imho.
While it can be a selfish act in some cases...
It can also be an unselfish one, in other cases.
For example, when a soldier dives onto a live grenade to shield his fellow warriors from harm.
Or when a mother jumps in front of an oncoming bus...to save her child, knowing that she will likely be hit.
There are also cases where someone is already dying a horrible slow death, has no hope of ever being useful again...and chooses to bring their misery to an end.
So, I find it hard to condemn suicide in all cases.
Each case has some different circumstances.

The first is sacrifice, that is noble not suicide.
Greater love hath no man than...
the second is gambling your life while attempting to guarantee your child's again noble.....
like firefighting.
The last is the one I have the most qualms about begrudging in suicide.
I think perhaps it is just acknowledging defeat.

In other words, do mosques raise money to help the poor or to contibute to the community? "
from what I understand, they are more "conversion" type things. If you need food, you will get food, but also a sermon (or coercion) to get converted into their religion. And there really are not that many muslim "charities" in the same sense of how christian charities are, there is one, the Red Cresent, but that was created because they didn't what the Red Cross in their countries. The religion itself is not one of empathy or sympathy, just look at all the trouble in the Middle East, one type of muslim wants to annihilate another type of muslim, and if they're not muslim, well, that's even worse in their view.

He made no mention of Obamacare. At one point he seems to grasp the politicians (even Democrats!) want CONTROL. But its hard to tell if he grasps their desire does not end with the internet.
However, I do believe that there are times we put the idealism of the "true believer" liberals like him to use (I differentiate them, the useful idiots, from the control seeking statists). They do fancy themselves as freedom lovers, who speak truth to power, yadda yadda yadda. We on the right need to figure out better how to exploit this part of their self image better.

I guess if you're an actual nerd you don't think about exercising your other (shrinking list) of traditional rights and freedoms like most conservatives do.
They are going for everything all the time non stop.
Too bad his (their) sense of urgency was so myopic.

I wonder if that evil Hollywood suck-up Chris Dodd was behind this kids persecution?
I bet he was.
Shame on Hollywood - gun violent hypocrites free speech stomping a-holes.

yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he was a fan of choom care, and the death of the 2d amendment....

The right has an internal split that keeps it from getting too froggy.
I don't see it in the left anymore.
It used to be you could split FDR democrats from free shit army in a jam and protect property rights or keep the peceniks in check.
Now they are more concerned about 'winning"....
yeah both sides stink...one needs a bath the other a burial

However, they quickly realize libertarian paradise is actually a far worse nightmare than communism. Lotso explains that immigrants have to work their way up, starting by doing the painful, backbreaking jobs that the current population (all former immigrants themselves) wonÂ’t do. There are a couple exceptions: Barbie is taken as a (Russian) mail-order bride and the entrepreneurial Buzz is chosen for promotion to the managerial class and resocialized so he wonÂ’t sympathize with his old comrades.
Da comrade....da

yeah that's why I graduated to "Christian" or rather as i once thought of it "Protestant."
The Church wants me to come home it can fix a few things about bad padres, and decide if they will hold Democrats who go directly against the faith accountable at all.
The Church also may want to put the socialism down and return to simple charity.

Sven that does not surprise me. I watched the clip and don't know much else about him, but I thought he seemed a bit tunnel-visioned about the internet rather than recognizing the overall tyrannical turn the gov't has taken. He was only 26 but obviously bright and it's possible (had he lived), his own persecution by the gov't would have opened his eyes. At the time of the clip he seemed like a lot of lefties who have a huge blind spot about governments, power, history and tyranny.

The Dems knew it was a censorship bill. They wrote it and were the last to abandon it.
The Repubs thought it was a copyright protection bill, to protect intellectual property.
So who's the stupid party and who's the evil party?

Maybe....I used to think they were naive...Iinstead i suspect they either are knwoing commies or fellow travelers.
In essence I am to believe that large corporations are heartless assholes but large governments are angels...
except when they block drug use or hurt the net man....
um no how's about I follow the federalist and anti-federalist view and be wary of all power....?
I guess the nicest way I can put it is "salute" and like a ww1 pilot over the other side's aerodrome drop a wreath saying "in mourning of friend and enemy""

I am not vain enough to think i am smarter than the Pope or a better catholic than a bishop, I am smart enough to know I cannot condone a church that allows Nancy pelosi to flip the faith off directly and pretend she can lecture the Pope on faith.
I am content praising Him with Baptists, and i can sing praise alone.
God bless and keep you and keep faith.
