Two Simple Questions
— CAC

The Senate Majority Leader appears rather irked over Republican block maneuvers of His Greatness, so once again he's threatening to change the rules and go nuclear, requiring a simple majority to get judicial nominees (excluding the Supreme Court) confirmed.

With just under a year to go until election day:

But now, Dems have already agreed not to change the rules once, and the filibustering continues, even though Republicans admitted when the last deal was reached that they were wrong to block Obama from staffing the government. And now, the GOP position is not grounded in an objection to ObamaÂ’s nominees or to the function of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals; itÂ’s grounded in the argument that Obama should not have the power to make these appointments to the court at all. As Jonathan Chait argues, Republicans may not have even thought through the full implications of the position theyÂ’ve adopted. But Dems have, and taking it to its logical conclusion, they believe Republicans have presented them with a simple choice: Either they change the rules, or they accept those limits on ObamaÂ’s power. And that really leaves only one option.

Funny, because the rest of us have an option too. Let me guide your hand, Harry. The Washington Post Poll (full data here) already shows that registered voters would oppose a Congressional candidate who favored Obamacare by a 39% to 23% margin nationally, and you've got a helluva lot of territory to defend next November:

whatswrongwiththispicture.png

Narrowing down to just the states that went to Romney, the situation gets a whole lot uglier:

I'm just a lowly college dropout, with a slightly burned out brain, and even I know that 55-7= 48.

But hey, if you want to give conservatives in red and purple states a reason to go for an even bigger win, by all means. I'm sure a newly-minted Republican Senate Majority would happily return the favor on those rule changes of yours.

When there are fewer Republicans, the filibuster is an outdated measure which prevents the Great and Beneficent Democrats from Working Their Will.

41 Someone in the linked piece commented this URL Republicans ShouldnÂ’t Let Obama Pack the Courts http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-11-11/republicans-shouldn-t-let-obama-pack-the-courts.html One of the vacancies Democrats are trying to fill used to be held by John Roberts. After he became chief justice, Bush nominated the impeccably qualified Peter Keisler for the spot. The Democrats blocked him, and the seat has gone empty ever since. A reasonable case can be made against a minority party blocking judicial nominations, or for it. What canÂ’t reasonably be argued is that Democrats should be able to use the tactic to keep a judgeship open until they have the power to fill it with a liberal, at which point Republicans have to stand down. /tiredoftheBS

88 We could potentially take out Harkin (Iowa), the retiring Levin (Michigan), or Jeff Merkley (Oregon), too, if it becomes a true wave election. Posted by: Brandon In Baton Rouge at November 19, 2013 05:08 PM (/Crba) Here's what I would propose: start investing heavily in ground-game operations in states like Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa. Keep those operations functioning AFTER the 2014 cycle to drive up voter registration and volunteers, and you're set up well for 2016. The open seats in Iowa and Michigan would be quite nice, and giving Franken at least a scare would be nice too.

The diversity of the group is hard to overlook. Ten of the sidelined judicial nominees are women, two are openly gay and nine are minorities (seven are African American, one is Asian American and one is Native American). The lone executive nominee being blocked right now, Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.), is African American.

Democrats have noted that Republicans keep filibustering female nominees to the D.C. Circuit. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) wondered aloud on the Senate floor "whether there is a double standard" when it comes to putting women on that court. Before Pillard, Republicans also blocked Patricia Millett and Caitlin Halligan.

118 *looks up from notes* Let me make sure I've got this right. Under the new system, the President writes the laws, then sends them to Congress. If Congress doesn't pass them, the President's job is to call Congress a bunch of racists, sexists, and/ or terrorists and refuse to negotiate until he get's his way. And, to prevent the President's laws from not going through, it is Congress's job to change the rules to suit the President's whims... and name post offices. It's the Judicial Branch's job to rewrite laws that are unconstitutional or provide alternative definitions to words so that all the President's laws remain intact. These rules only apply if there is a Democrat President. To prevent this confusion; the media, the Census Bureau, and all other departments now report to the Executive Branch exclusively and the IRS, DOL, FBI and related departments have the responsibility to enforce voting for Democrats exclusively. Also, to help people to vote correctly, the Executive Branch has full authority to fund private groups like ACORN, OFA, and others and empower groups like the Black Panthers to provide security at polling places (at least until the Executive Domestic Security Force is fully in place). Right? Let me know if I've got any of this wrong. *looks over new United Socialist States of America Constitution*

174 Simple question: if she hadn't been associated with the Bush WH, would she ever have been considered for the position? No? Then she's not a victim.

Posted by: pep at November 19, 2013 05:26 PM (6TB1Z)

First,  since she was  nominated   and then immediately bashed by the right,  it doesn't matter what her status would have been if she had not gone to the WH in order to  be considered a victim.    She probably would have been on the Texas Supreme Court.  You could say the same thing about Clarence Thomas.

Second,   the 'consevatives'  can bash Miers  all they want but its their boy that they gave kudos for Bush nominating him that has screwed us today.   I also gave Roberts  a thumbs up.    Who knew.

They're pretty clear that there are subcategories of "Bull Dykes" and "Lipstick Lesbians". I can see how the term may be offensive to some folks, but like any other politically correct stuff, it depends on who you talk to. What is offensive and what isn't is always a personal matter. I'm all for being polite and tasteful, but the PC thing has gone overboard IMO.

I cover and boil, then cool without taking the lid off. Then it's into the refrigerator.

But...come to think of it, I freeze or use within a few days.

The danger is the heat stable staph toxins, but they don't grow well in the refrigerator, so I'll bet (with Niedermeyer's GI tract) that one week is okay.

The French technique is to boil the stock every few days to keep it "fresh."

Well, even the lesbians use the term bull dyke.  You know that girl, the one that "lives alone" owns an Xterra and has a golden retriever or a lab.

I spent a good portion of my life pushing troops and all the females in that business are that (90% or so.... I mean shit... really?  think about it:  you have a job where 18 year old girls shower in front of you and you yell, no wonder they do it... but I digress)

But, here on AoS there's some solid folks who butter the other side of the banana if you get my meaning (I just made that shit up).  But still.  Good folks, so easy on the terminology.

You can spot a well placed comment or a not well placed one.  Just remember:  a lot (a shit ton, if my measurements are correct) of people read what you write here.

Go easy.

I agree on Harmon.  It's not that these women are ugly, it's that they aren't pretty.  Odd thing though, these women are generally considered "beautiful", not "pretty", and beautiful seems to verge onto masculine at some point.
