— Ace Well, obviously. But when the obvious is denied or overlooked, it's useful and necessary to say it.
For backstory, the other day Thomas Roberts gave a scripted Progressive Hero Speech on MSNBC, and if you can imagine such a thing, called for MSNBC to be even more hippy-dippy and hyper-ideological than it already is.
Don’t we need to do more about our social contract with each other in this country when it comes to being others? Because, as we look at this, we can use this as a great pivot point to talk about race relations in this country. But, being an “other,” whether it’s LGBT, because you’re suspected of being a pedophile and a rabid disease carrier.
And if you are a woman, well you donÂ’t have a right to your own body and your own reproductive health, because if you do youÂ’re a slut that wants to sleep around and use abortion as birth control.
And then, if youÂ’re Hispanic, you want to lay off the land and have anchor babies and you just want to lay off the land.
Isn’t that the — and I want to challenge this network: we had to have an “I am other” agenda and have a forum for it, because others need to unite to talk about this and figure out where we are going as a country.
The social contract that we have currently negotiated that is so wrong and how this is happening in a country where we have this huge group of people that– it’s supposed to be a melting pot, but we treat each other with such disdain it’s not even funny.
Well, Carolla's not having any part of this Clapper Moment from Roberts. If I know Carolla's basic take -- and I think I've do, I've heard it a few times -- it's this: There is racism. Racism is responsible for 15% of the Bad Outcomes black people experience in America.
On the other hand, a bad culture among underclass blacks is responsible for 85% of Bad Outcomes they experience.
So yeah, we can sit here jerking each other off in our Progressive Hero Speeches and relentlessly focus on the 15% it's Fun and Rewarding to talk about, and sure, you'll get your Standing Ovations from your fellow progressives for Daring to Say What Every Single One of Them "Dares" to Say.
Or we can talk about the things that cause 85% of the problems, which have nothing to do with whitey. But you won't get applause for that. In fact, some people might even take issue with you.
So that's why Carolla calls him a p*ssy -- because like any other coward, he wants to talk about the stuff that it's Easy and Rewarding to talk about, not the stuff that would actually have the most beneficial effect.
Sending the message that we’re broke — we have a broken moral compass and we have to have a dialogue about it to fix it is an insane and dangerous message to send, and you can listen to this pussy ass-wipe on MSNBC explaining to his co-host — it’s a weekend show. He’s filling in for the host. Hear him explain what kind of society we’ve crafted in 2013.”

Even in the victim pantheon so dear to leftists, I don't quite know where a homosexual would fit. Unless you are jumping up and down saying "I'm queer", you pretty much look like anyone else. Unless you lisp around or have a phony affect for your voice, no one knows your sexual preference or really cares. Of course, some folks here think gays are victims of society as well and sound moronic when they pontificate about it too-kind of like Roberts.

Since MSNBC is going subterranean with the ratings announcing that they need to find an even smaller niche to serve can only be a good thing. Sort of intentionally making their appeal even more selective.

OK, not to break this shit apart:
DonÂ’t we need to do more about our social contract with each other in this country when it comes to being others? Because, as we look at this, we can use this as a great pivot point to talk about race relations in this country.
WTF does this even mean? That first sentence has to be a typo right? I'm not even sure it makes sense. *puts on postmodern hat* Nope, still udder bullshit, even by the criteria of bullshit postmodernism.
But, being an “other,” whether it’s LGBT, because you’re suspected of being a pedophile and a rabid disease carrier.
Also, not actually a sentence. Lots of dependent clauses, and weirdness, with no actual conclusion also I think it's missing a necessary verb not part of the "because" clause.
And if you are a woman, well you donÂ’t have a right to your own body and your own reproductive health, because if you do youÂ’re a slut that wants to sleep around and use abortion as birth control.
Balderdash. Outlawing birth control isn't on any remotely mainstream agenda. And I would never phrase the argument like that (although it's fairly accurate I suppose.) Instead, I'd point out, you simply don't have the right to take the life of a child (even unborn!) merely because you want to. Some people care about children more than that.*
And then, if youÂ’re Hispanic, you want to lay off the land and have anchor babies and you just want to lay off the land.
More utter bullshit. I like immigration, especially when the economy is moving strongly. Also, big fan of the free labor market, in which legal immigration creates competition and prevents us Americans from getting lazy or demanding of absurd wages (I'm looking at you fast food workers who want $15/hour). I don't like people who sneak across the boarder, or overstay visas then claim to be victims
Isn’t that the — and I want to challenge this network: we had to have an “I am other” agenda and have a forum for it, because others need to unite to talk about this and figure out where we are going as a country.
Cool, you want MSNBC to tank it's ratings even more, I'm all for that.
The social contract that we have currently negotiated that is so wrong and how this is happening in a country where we have this huge group of people that– it’s supposed to be a melting pot, but we treat each other with such disdain it’s not even funny.
What utter bullshit. I'm not even sure Rawls believed a social contract was "negotiated" in anything more than a hypothetical situation. No one negotiated this social contract, were it actually done that way I assure you, I'd have gotten more of what I wanted out of it.
*Speaking of this Horde, although O/T I need some prayers for a good friend of mine. His wife's baby is breach and there's low amniotic fluid, so they may have to do a rush C-section 4 weeks early (i.e. this weekend.) Needless to say he's freaking out. In part because of the medical and in part because he thought he had another month to get ready. We feed him some booze last night to calm him down.

No, I think that's a reasonable guess.
Racism does still exist, it would be silly to suggest otherwise.
There are still employers who prefer not to hire black people, for instance. He might justify it to himself after having a bad experience with other black employees, but it's still racism regardless.
But the point that black culture is the most important factor in explaining problems affecting blacks still holds true.

In a good fondue many ingredients still have their own flavor, but become indistinguishable from the whole in terms of separating it out. (Which I think is the important part.)

What would be the best way to take down a giant alien monster? I agree that artillery is probably not the best choice, though I do, indeed, want an M1-A1 of my very own. I wonder if you'd have any greater success with strafing runs by Warthogs at the eye or eyes or waving around stalk thingys (technical alien monster term). Blind it and then bring in air strikes to finish it off. I'm presuming in this scenario that nuking it just to be sure isn't a practical option, though I would love to see the discussions in Cloverfield that ended with "And then we nuke Central Park" and everyone agreeing.

I'd go a lot higher than 85%... frankly, if you are failing in America you can whine about it, or you can open your eyes and see that opportunities are littered about you like gold nuggets.
Want your kids to have food to eat? There are school breakfast and school lunch programs... for free!
Want your kids to be educated? We give every child public school education from kindergarten through 12th grade.... for free!
Want more than the public schools can provide? My state (Wisconsin) gives vouchers to attend private schools and, even if you can't get a voucher, almost every parochial school (including the one my kids go to) has generous financial aid paid for by good-hearted Catholics, so you can... for free!
Even if that doesn't work, my city (Milwaukee) has beautiful public libraries where you can read and learn and sit quietly (and safely)... for free!
Want to play Little League? My kid's Little League has a program where, if you have financial need, the league (meaning parents who have given donations over the years) will pick up the tab for your fees, so your kid can play... for free!
The mass transit system has lower-income rider plans.
The zoo and the public museum and the art museum all have lower-income membership waivers.
We have a beautiful park system... for free!
And that's before you start on food stamps, housing assistance, welfare, Medicaid, etc., etc.
And that's before you talk about affirmative action opportunities in getting into college or graduate school or getting a job or getting a promotion.
We are an incredibly generous and giving country. And all you have to do as a black person are things that no white person can make you do...
Don't get pregnant.
Don't skip school.
Don't do drugs.
Don't commit crimes.
I mean, seriously, is that so hard? Really?

Did the alien monster survive atmospheric entry by itself? Or did it rely on a meteorite/cocoon for protection?
If it survives the former, that implies some type of armored skin and high durability. The latter type, needing protection against heat, is probably vulnerable to the application of many explosives.
For an armored monster - it seems you'd just want to blow a lot of big holes in it, so anything that is useful against heavily armored tanks/ships may be re-purposed. Target legs to reduce mobility, and then pound it into dust.
For a dispersed monster (slime/nano-goo), FAEs would be the ticket, methinks. (but with care to not disperse the monster as opposed to incinerating it)

You may look scary, that doesn't mean you have to dress, act, or do scary things. Skinny white guys do a lot better in life without prison tats and a mohawk.
Wyane Brady: “I get offended from a bigger level, in the fact of black people, we are one of the only races that I feel, if someone is judged as not being black enough, no matter how well they’re doing, the thought isn’t, “Hey, look how good that brother’s doing, and he represents us, and if he can get in that door, we can get in that door.” People take it to be, “Ugh, look at him. He only got there because white people put him on. Listen to how he talks. He’s not hard, he doesn’t do this, he’s a square.”
The badass bravado for black males is deeply ingrained within their culture. Until that changes, white people will cross the street to avoid them. Which, to some extent, is entirely the point of their behavior. They want to intimidate people, white and black. It's a cool to be Shaft.
What they are pissing and moaning about for the most part is the consequences of that culture - higher crime rates and profiling as thugs. So, black America. Decide. Wayne Brady or Black Dynamite? You can't be both.
