And it looks like Krispy Kreme is gonna be a walkover in NJ. 60/70-something'ish. The Dem is getting blown out.

Must disagree.   The Dem is winning in NJ too.   You can dress up a pig in many ways; it is still a pig.

21 I don't know where to put this particular piece of info without violating the new stick to the topic rule, but I just heard Wolf Blitzer say that the website rollout for the ACA has only affected 5% of insurance holders.  He went on to say that this means 15 million individual policy holders.  I want someone to tear into this and point out that the dang law was supposed to fix insurance for 10% of the population, and they've already screwed half of the number of people they were supposed to help with 95% left of the market to go.  Heck of a job, Kathleen.

42 Thanks, Purp. I haven't done business with Adobe in years. But there are a couple security lessons people can take away. 1. If you are depending on the vendor, or even the US government, to keep your information secure, I have some oceanfront property in PA for sale. 2. Try not to use the same username and password everywhere. If hackers get the one, they have better odds of reeking havoc. If you have to write them down on a piece of paper (this is at home) and leave them laying around, I don't think robbers are going to break into your house and steal more then your laptop and/or pc, not a piece of paper with jibberish. 3. Debit cards are great but dangerous. Try to have a second account that you use them on. Keep as little money in DC account as possible. Push funds from primary to DC account as needed.

Police will limit crowds near the park. After the seventh inning, people won't be allowed into Fenway or the surrounding streets, and if people already there decide to leave, they can't come back.

Parking restrictions aim to thin out of the number of cars on streets around Fenway starting at 4 p.m., and officials warned people parking in local lots that they'll be stuck there for a while after the game.

The mayor said he'll be asking businesses in downtown Boston to relieve congestion by letting workers go home by 4 p.m. City staff has asked local bar owners to pull outside displays by the fifth inning and cover windows so crowds don't gather outside to watch their TVs.

Enjoy your Series, Beantown!

156 1. Libertarians are not purist conservatives. Cucinelli does not poll well with women for the same reason all Republicans don't poll well with women. Years and years of artillery strikes have prepared the way. Millions of dollars of Dem money have poured down on Virginia telling women that Cucinelli wants to rape them and then make them have babies. There does not seem to be an effective defense to that.

For the record, I don't believe asking for the libertarian vote is the same as acting entitled to it.  This is a common thread amongst libertarians (including myself).

This is one of the things about American politics that fascinates me from a strictly academic standpoint.  There are factions who are happy to suffer under a candidate they despise and who doesn't share their view on any issues rather than vote for a candidate who only shares their vews on 70% of issues.

He wants to take "no fault" divorce off the table in cases where there are minor children involved so that the divorce settlement will have to make provision for the children.

Somehow the Democrats have managed to spin that into a "War on Women".

So you're initial guess about binders and tampons was correct- or at least it makes as much actual sense as what is happening.

Yes yes, let's rip on libertarians for not "doing the grown-up thing", meaning voting for a party that takes them for granted when they aren't disdainfully looking down their noses at them.  It should be pointed out that most people who call themselves libertarians aren't party members of ANY party, they just can't call themselves republicans anymore.

180 "Hundreds of thousands of alumni, students and family are all to be tarred with the Sandusky brush. So much for judging men one at a time." Life is too short to judge people one at a time, unless they rise to your attention. This is why it is important to police your own community, school, workplace, political party, website, etc for trash. The failures to take this stuff seriously before it was overwhelming will leave a mark for a generation. This is not fair or just on an individual level, but as individuals have choices, the fortunes of the school should decline, and this is not wrong. This is how a free market operates. Nobody is calling a particular individual at the school a pedo, but the label is firmly attached to the *institution*, and won't be coming unfixed for a while. I do not see this as wrong. Consistent systemic failures of integrity and fidelity have consequences which are not fair in the individual, but which are indispensable in the aggregate. cf. the fate of the GOP. But fine, dismiss me as a troll.

Sebelius hearing:

Democrats are obviously coordinated, each attacking republicans and defending certain portions of Obamacare, with  Sebelius well  briefed on what her response should be.

Republicans are all over the place.  Totally uncoordinated, never hammering a point home, no response to outright lies about costs, pretty much the clusterfuck we've come to expect.

Apparently, it was far to complex for our side to have a 30 minute conference call to outline who should cover what topic.

Posted by: artisanal 'ette at October 30, 2013 09:41 AM (IXrOn

The point is, all of us have only known this two party coke/pepsi game, and we're mostly forced to choose sides, at least on election day.  Most of the conservatives I know have quit the republican party more than once.

The rest hold their noses and vote for the lessor of two evils, over and over, and here we are.  How's that working out for the country?

Hence the bump in percentage of people self-identifying as libertarians, but whom I suspect would gladly vote for a true small government constitutionally correct conservative/republican.

It wouldn't.  Still a cool idea.  If you give them something that looks and feels like what they know they just pick it up and run with it.

But the CROWS joystick they have now is still pretty cool.  Sitting in an M1-A2 Commander's station is as close as an Army guy ever gets to being an F-18 pilot.

252 Vote out of spite and anger versus rational thought. I don't care. I just chuckle to see the childishness of it all.

"I want to stick my neighbors noses in it" is a great reason for voting against rational thought and reasoning.

No, you've got it exactly wrong, and are putting words into your opponent's mouth as well.  Didn't you read that study that showed libertarians scored the most of all parties on rationality tests?

See, if democrats keep winning, then it's sweet meteor of death in only a few years, and we can start rebuilding.  If Republicans win, then it's going to stabilize for a long time at the current shit level (no, I don't believe that unless the R party gets taken over by Cruzes and Pauls that Obamacare will ever be repeased, even if R's get a majority).

Give me worthwhile R's and I will vote for them, but they have to be comparable to the libertarian candidate.  There's no urge in me to vote R and keep the system, a little more and more left every year, chugging along.

I've compromised enough.  You're welcome for all my votes over the years, but you do seem a bit ungrateful-- what have I done for you lately, right?

The most unseemly part of this whole fucking thing is how the Penn State football fans who have portrayed the program, with the complicity of ESPN idiots, as somehow above other major programs, are now presenting themselves as "victims". Do you realize how that looks to people outside of the cult? Spouting that on social media only compounds the problem. The school and its supporters need to STFU and let things play out.

Libertarians can not be Kingmakers unless they make a King.

Unless they throw their weight behind the candidate they prefer, they will elect the candidate they do not prefer.  This makes them Anti-Kingmakers, because their only effect is to hasten that which they despise.

The way to build a movement is to take that power and use it to achieve something.  What they can achieve this year is to elect Cucinnelli and defeat McAuliffe.  Until they actually use their votes for some useful purpose, they will remain stuck in the spoiler zone.

Elect Cucinnelli now, and use that power next time 'round to force a more Libertarian candidate out of the Republicans.  If you force the Republicans to try to win without your votes, they will have no choice but to run as almost-Democrats.

Yes.  It's time for collapse.  I'd rather ride out the balkanization/whatever that will happen to the USA than chain myself and my children, for the rest of their lives, to the system we have right now.  If democrats collapse things, that's better for me than if R's have me paying Obamacare rates for the rest of my life.

I notice nobody is trying to convince me that R's really, really, will, pinky swear, repeal Obamacare.  Because you know they won't.  Enough status quo.  You R's have made your point, now get with the program and stop voting for people who are "conservative" in the sense that they just want to roll things back to 2010 or 2002.

------------

Um, but it's Cuccinelli who is actually taking on the "GOP power wing."  There was a backroom deal whereby Bill Bolling was "supposed" to run for the Gov seat this term, but he got outmaneuvered by Cuccinelli.  This is why you don't see many VA GOPer in the "power wing" actually doing anything to help Cuccinelli win this race.

Hell, Bolling gave an interview a couple of months ago where he tried to torpedo Cuccinelli by questioning his qualifications.

If you are truly tired of warmed over Democrats like Bolling continually getting access to the levers of power, the best message you can send them is electing the guy who evicted him from his "turn in line."  Cuccinelli took a chance by bucking the VA GOP Establishment, hoping that conservatives would support him, after all.

It's always just an excuse to say vote for us this time and we'll get to the real issues next time, well, my first election was in '92 and after 20 + years i'm ready to move on to the next time now, so i'm not wasting any more time on trying to make the R's live up to their small govt ideals.
