— Ace I was one of the unhappy few to see the Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot occurring just a few years after the previous sequel. It was terrible.
The new one looks like it was made with the same spirit as the first, which is to say, it also looks terrible. That's the trailer. It looks like an epileptic cartoon. Enjoy.
The main villain is... Electro, a villain even mild geeks have heard of, but who just isn't that interesting. So they've juiced him up with a lot of new CGI superpowers, and he looks even dumber here than he does in the comic. And that's a neat trick, because in the comics, Electro's costume is that of an... angry daffodil.

But no one expects Electro, of all people, to carry a movie, so apparently Spider-Man is fighting the Sinister Six, an Avengers-style team-up of Spider-Man's rogues gallery. Apparently Doctor Octopus is somewhere in the trailer (though I missed him), and they show the Rhino a lot. Green Goblin shows up, Forbes says.
Six villains? Great, you know what that means: More origin stories! And I just can't get enough of origin stories in comic book movies.
At this point, would the audience mind at all if the movie just opened up with a fight between Rhino and Spider-Man, and then didn't bother explaining How the Rhino Came to Be? Would anyone care at all if the film didn't include that critical information? Or if the movie just covered it with a single line of dialogue ("his advanced nano-hydraulic armor gives him incredible strength!")?
Would anyone be upset if the movie just presented all six villains and didn't bother at all explaining their magical powers?
Eh. In this one, it looks like the plot is something about "making humans powerful or something," so they're going to attempt to explain the villains via the same magic serum, which doesn't really make sense, because at least two villains get their magic powers from magic armor, rather than getting their magic strength or magic electricity from from a magic potion.
This might also be the one where Gwen Stacy dies. If you care. I don't. And I actually used to care.
Apparently they're making so much money with bad Spider-Man movies they've already greenlit sequels for 2016 and 2018. I guess that's the ultimate in movie properties -- if you can make $750 million with a bad movie, then why the hell not just keep making them forever?
Anyone can make money with a good movie. It's a special kind of franchise where you make money with bad ones.
So we all have this continuing Cartoon Nightmare for Adult Children to look forward to for some number of years, until they start losing money and the license either reverts back to Marvel or Disney buys it back or something.
Okay, I'm officially done with comic book movies. It took a while to get here, but now I'm agreeing with the cranky guys who've been saying "What the hell is this stupid crap?" for eight years.

I could be bothered to go to a decent superhero flick from the 3d or 4th string heroes...
imagine if you will Nomad-Fucked Up Schizo highlighting Jack Monroe....
or the Thunderbolts which would actually be a good spin on the Genre.

Eh. In this one, it looks like the plot is something about "making humans powerful or something," so they're going to attempt to explain the villains via the same magic serum
So, another mindless bludgeoning of the "Government Tries To Create Super Soldiers" dead horse, which isn't just a comic superhero cliche, but a generalized trope from the cretins in Hollywood.

The lack of an origin story is what made Pacific Rim so refreshing. Instead of spending a whole movie on it, it took 5 minutes to set up the universe and 10 more minutes to set up the main characters' motivations, and then got right to the robot-on-monster fighting.
Also, I am pretty sure that the reason Sony keeps making these movies is that if they don't, the rights revert back to Marvel/Disney. Don't quote me on that though.

#97: That's one thing that has bugged me about the Superman movies for a long time... they don't use enough villains. He's actually got some pretty cool ones, too... Darkseid, Monghul, Brainiac, Maxima, The Eradicator...
Except they can't really use the Eradicator now, because his whole schtick was recently stolen by the new Zod. And Superman 3 sort of almost had Brainiac, but not really.
But, yeah, the only actual Superman villains who've appeared in Superman movies are Lex Luthor and General Zod. How many times can Superman keep fighting the same two guys, especially when he always kills one of them and the other is essentially a normal guy?

@I want the Blue Beetle. He's DC's hispanic version of Spider-man, since their diversity reboot at least.
-------------
So's Spider-man now, ironically. Or at least one of the Spider-men with their own titles. "Ultimate Spider-man" (different universe from the normal one) is a half hispanic (Puerta Rican, iirc), half-black teenager (he took up the name and suit after the local Peter Parker got killed). And while he doesn't have his own title currently, I've heard that the old future Spider-man character - Spider-man 2099 - has shown up in the current Spider-man issues. His secret identity - Miguel O'Hara - is, as hinted by his first name, half hispanic.
Even more ironically, there are currently no Spider-man books in which Spider-man is Peter Parker. The mainstream Peter Parker got his mind taken over by Doc Ock, who's decided that he'll show the world by being an even better Spider-man than Parker ever was.

And yes, they are making Spider-Man movies in part to retain the rights, or lose them. That's why X-Men movies keep being made. They make some money because they're pretty much the only original content coming out but less each craptastic sequel.

Honestly, Marvel needs to buy back Spidey from Sony. Especially if this movie fails spectacularly.
Looks like this reboot decided to skip having a strong solid sequel ( like Spiderman 2 was) and go straight for the "Lets cram a bunch of stupid villains into one movie and make it suck balls" like Spiderman 3.
At least the reboot will end after this movie.
I'm a big comic book movie nut ( not so much actual comics) but this reboot franchise sucks. It sucked in the first movie, and will suck even more in the 2nd. The only point in doing more Spidey movies should be to include Spidey in the Avengers.
Unfortunately Marvel sold Spidey down the river for a quick buck along with the X-Men, so I wont be able to enjoy watching Spiderman give lip to Nick Fury, or Wolverine wail on Thor. *sigh*

To me it seems much more likely Rhino will be an Act II plot point and Electro the big Act III fight with Goblin only set up for the next movie where Gwen dies and MJ, who originally was going to be in this one, is introduced.
Being tired of superhero movies is fine (personally I'm still having fun) but I would bet the common verdict on Spiderman v2 #2 will be that it is better and more fun than the last one where they did a rather poor job with the Lizard.
