— Gabriel Malor I mentioned the other day that the American Legion and other veterans organizations are concerned about IRS targeting. Kansas Sen. Moran got the ball rolling on this issue and now the American Legion convention has approved resolutions to respond.
It's like this. As a tax-exempt veterans patriotic organization, the American Legion has to demonstrate to IRS upon request that its membership complies with statutory limits. For example, at least 75% of members have to be past or present members of the Armed Forces with the rest being "cadets or. . . spouses, widows, widowers, ancestors, or lineal descendants." That last part is from statute.
According to the IRS manual that Lois Lerner's Office of Tax Exempt Organizations uses, this "other members" group that includes lineal descendants is limited to two degrees of consanguinity. IOW, IRS says only sons and grandsons count and that Legion posts can be fined if, for example, their membership includes great-grandsons, stepsons, and adopted sons. The Legion wants IRS to abide by statute, and one of the resolutions that passed yesterday was to seek congressional action on that point.
To give you another example, IRS is using a different set of dates to determine whether an individual is a wartime veteran than have been approved by Congress for the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Because of this manipulation, Legion posts that have been audited have faced the threat of fines from IRS officials who say the posts aren't complying with the IRS manual.
It should go without saying that to the extent the IRS manual deviates from statute no Legion post (or any other veterans patriotic organization) should have to comply. The Legion is working to get IRS to correct its manual or, failing that, asking Congress to step in.
Disclaimer: the American Legion arranged airfare and my hotel, as well as a per diem, so that I could attend their national convention. The American Legion had no editorial oversight of this post or any of my other coverage here or on Twitter.

People using the IRS in contravention of the law need to go to jail. Period.
Why are we still discussing this as the future felon, Lois Lerner, tans on a beach somewhere at taxpayer expense?
Congress needs to grow some balls and if this administration wants to continue being an accessory (or direct participant) in a criminal conspiracy or outright felonious behavior they should all get a ticket to Club Fed.

Member of AL Auxiliary--this crap angers me sooooo much. Since when does an org. like the AL need targeting by ANY gov't agency? I don't think my dad, uncles, g-father, etc., signed up so this petty, invasive, vicious "oversight" by IRS could be used as a weapon against averagely patriotic Americans.
Goddammit. I am so discouraged I usually never even comment, because hopeless.

The American Legion is a large organization and its members vote. And they know how to contact their members of congress.
So yes, I do advise the IRS to go ahead and attack the American Legion because I believe the IRS cannot have too many enemies at once.

But you see, the IRS can issue regulations (like the EPA), and regulations have the force of law, and can even be tried in special regulatory court, and so on. This means that even when a regulation or internal document contradicts a real law or statute passed by Congress and signed by a President, you have to convince a federal court that this isn't a matter for the regulatory court, that you have standing, and the matter is ripe for consideration.
By the time this all happens, you've either spent tons of money to defend yourself or give in and negotiate some sort of settlement to limit your damages.
One hell of a racket.

Sure, of course. People aren't what they do. In the same sense that Richard Simmons may spend a significant amount of his time sucking c*cks, but it's not nice to call him a c*cksucker.
So let's stop calling illegal aliens, illegal aliens. Let's start calling them people who are here illegally, doing things that are not legal.
Just rolls off the tongue, it does. Not unlike c*cks and Richard Simmons, I suppose.

>Booker says rival's remarks 'callous' and 'bigoted'<
The dust-up began when Booker told the Washington Post he isn't bothered about speculation he's gay. That assertion, Lonegan declared in an interview with a conservative online publication, was "weird."
"I personally like being a guy," Lonegan told Newsmax.
Booker – the Democratic mayor of Newark, New Jersey – said that sentiment amounted to a prejudiced view of gay men.
I'm a little confused when being a gay man was considered "masculine".
Notwithstanding of course, Bookers "late night manicures and pedicures".

SEIU is behind this. If they get their way, McD's won't be allowed to hire part-time workers any more- only full time.
Which is curiously in direct conflict with the goals of TFGCare to make us all part-timers.
This will be fun to watch.

Can't help but wonder if there's a causal link between the two.

And meanwhile, as the nice white pieces of chicken float in a comforting, tasty, hot broth, the black spoon is continually dipped and pulled from the steamy depths, inevitably recalling the days when Southern plantation owners would drop their slaves, screaming, into boiling, satly water before pulling them out again to whip them and rape their women!
NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE!

It never made sense to me that Optimus Prime turns into something that helps him deliver milk to the supermarket and the Decepticons turn into instruments of war. Maybe it's supposed to be symbolic of Autobots' "Purity of Heart."

Y'know, Alex Borstein was magnificent on Mad TV. "Miss Swan" is pure comic genius. Dunno why I brought that up, but, there you go.

It's anti-military propaganda. Derp.

Yeah, but then they wouldn't be Autobots, now would they? They'd be Planebots.

The Autobots could fly in the first season of the cartoon, because cartoons. They just sort of sucked at it.

Also, the most enthusiastic union supporters tend to be those who rely on the union for their continued employment- i.e. those who would otherwise be fired for laziness and/or incompetence.

You try to tell these girls to practice with their hands behind their back, but they don't listen until it's too late.

Didn't the Autobots want disguises that fit into human society, whereas the Decepticons prolly just chose the most powerful vehicles to work with?
