American Legion Convention and Moron Meatup - Houston
— Gabriel Malor

Greetings from gray, rainy Houston. The American Legion convention is in full swing here. Keep an eye on my Twitter account for pictures and news from that. One story that I'm tracking while I'm here is concern that the IRS plans to target the American Legion for unusual scrutiny if it wants to keep its tax-exempt status.

Also, Houston-area readers, if you're interested in joining me and some other morons for some drinks downtown on Tuesday evening, email me at gabriel (dot) malor (at) gmail.

Whoo-hoo! Let's targer the American Legion, that well-known font of anti-American sentiment...

Also, Gabe, your heading has a rather unfortunate typo. FYI

CC is OK for a left-coaster. DF  has a much wider range and  usually has a great roster of guest artists.

High Country Snows is a fantastic semi-country album.  Twin Sons of Different Mothers with Tim Weisberg is also good.

Plus, I'm not a big Michael McDonald fan. He shoulda  stayed in the studio with   Steely Dan,  IMO. He ruined the Doobie Bros.

Nah. Just a goof on 80s metal.

Side note: some heavy hitting guitarists guested on that song. Slash, Steve Lukather, Joe Satriani, all wailing away in a flurry. And with only three notes in his solo, Jeff Beck blows them all away, the only one who is instantly recognizable.

Nah, it was actually a fairly dynamic period for music if you avoid a lot of the Top 40 crap. When Sark is told some program is fighting for the users, he says "Great.  Another heretic."  And when he finds out that Flynn is not some random program but a user himself, he freaks out.  Also, the part when Alan makes contact with TRON in the I/O tower, it's like he's getting a message from god himself.

Then there's the final scene of the movie.  It's a sped-up scene of the cityscape from high altitude.  It looks exactly like the previous scenes of the digital world where you cold see all the little circuits and the pulse of electricity moving through them.  You get the impression that our world is just a domain and someone else higher up is looking down on us and seeing the same thing we just saw Flynn enter.

So what about songs that y'all like to sing when you don't have any musical accompaniment? When there's nothing decent on the radio I'll sing to myself as I'm driving home.Usually old traditionals; "Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier" and the like. Anybody else do this? Or am I the only weirdo singing along to words in my head on the highway?

Somewhat related: we babysat the    7/yo    GD'ette  last  Friday. She likes to hum very softly while she's playing,  which she did right before she fell asleep in my lap.

Meh.  It's nice to have a throwaway thread sometimes, especially when the rest of the day/week will be predominated by murder, mayhem, bloodshed, and cultural and economic ruin.
