— Open Blogger It's late in the day. Time for a change of pace from the rage-inducing threads pertaining to the enscrewening.
How about some pop culture news?
15 carats. Kanye "Gay Fish" West popped the question to his baby-mama with a 15-carat diamond ring. Now, this isn't exactly Liz and Dick we're talking about here, but Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. I'll admit it: I'm ashamed to know who they are.
News from the Big Apple:
Rock candy can be hazardous to your freedom.
Happenings on the left coast:
Los Angeles green-lights streetcar project based upon back of the envelope estimates. Actual cost has now doubled. Yes. I'm glad you asked: Federal funds were used for this project.
And in the world of science:
Is it time to stop the fight against saturated fat? One doctor thinks so.
News of the creepy kind:
Aaron rents settles with the FTC after charges of, well... Let's just say the NSA has nothing on them.
Why not a National Enquirer headline while we're at it?
Corey Feldman is talking. After alleging that Corey Haim had been haunted by sexual abuse, leading ultimately to his death, he refused to name names. Now he's written a book. I predict it will be a best-seller.
And...
What would a news round-up be without mentioning Florida?
Some people take their beer very seriously.
One last thing:
Now, off with you. You have serious commenting to do.

However, on a serious note, today is the 30th anniversary of the Beirut bombing. Visiting the memorial a few weeks ago before bringing our son home from Lejeune, was heartwrenching. It happened to be on a Sunday, Gold Star Mothers' Day.
Three young Marines were at the memorial, and one of them reached up and touched his fingers to a name. He turned to my husband and said, "Sir, this was my father's best friend. I had to come and find his name."
Ironically, it was the same day that TFG was reaching out to the president of Iran.
Okay, I'll knock off the serious stuff now. However, I haven't seen any mention of this anniversary anywhere. If I've missed it, let me know.

Her album dropped at #1, so I have a feeling she thinks selling her dignity and reputation was 100% justified. We'll see in a few years just how that gamble plays out (spoiler alert, poorly most likely.) I do not understand this society we're living in, where ppl like she and the Kardashians are fawned over. The stories are out there, and if you want salacious, they're about as bad as you can imagine.
The reason names don't get named is because you can't have proof of something somebody did 30 years ago, and if you go accusing them you will get sued out of what little you have left. Or worse.
Here's a good rule of thumb: take any group of kids. Put them in situations where they will spend substantial amounts of time around adults who are not their parents. A good percentage of those adults will sexually abuse those kids.
Not just Hollywood, not just Catholic priests, not just athletic coaches. Everywhere.

I am sure the morons already covered this but it bears repeating. The Estimator that Barryco. put on the 404 website uses only two ages to "estimate" the rates!!!! Holy crap. Talk about misleading..........
Industry analysts, such as Jonathan Wu, point to how the website lumps people only into two broad categories: “49 or under” and “50 or older.”
Wu said it’s “incredibly misleading for people that are trying to get a sense of what they’re paying.”
Prices for everyone in the 49-or-under group are based on what a 27-year-old would pay. In the 50-or-older group, prices are based on what a 50-year-old would pay.
CBS News ran the numbers for a 48-year-old in Charlotte, N.C., ineligible for subsidies. According to HealthCare.gov, she would pay $231 a month, but the actual plan on BlueCross BlueShield of North CarolinaÂ’s website costs $360, more than a 50 percent increase. The difference: BlueCross BlueShield requests your birthday before providing more accurate estimates.
The numbers for older Americans are even more striking. A 62-year-old in Charlotte looking for the same basic plan would get a price estimate on the government website of $394. The actual price is $634.

The problem is, I really don't think he DOES know about anyone other than himself, and what Haim told him. There are stories out there, but they're just stories.
The abused would have to come forward themselves. Compare this to the Sandusky case, or even Filthy Filner. Somebody was the first to come forward. Others either come forward afterwards or they don't.
I'm not going to fault the guy if he's not willing to put his neck out there more. It would take a level of courage he doesn't yet have. Maybe someday he will.

A Texas high school football game got somewhat out of hand last week, and now a parent of a player on the wrong side of the blowout is claiming that the beating constitutes bullying.
Aledo High School's football team has been significantly better than its opponents this season, winning by an average of 77 points per game over district opponents. Last week, Aledo beat Fort Worth Western Hills 91-0 and a complaint was filed by a Western Hills parent.

Lived in the western 'burbs of Chi-town for six years. Husband said the third happiest day of his life, after our marriage and the birth of our son, was selling the damned snowblower.

If course, now I have a mental picture of a possum trying to dumb down a conversation so Kimmy can understand.
Disturbing.

Supposedly the US position vis a vis Iranian enrichment is going to become "containment" rather than cessation.

We've been having a pretty warm indian summer effect for a couple of weeks, but that party is over tonight.

I'm with ya, hon, I'm with ya. My rage meter burned out about 4 1/2 years ago. I keep replacing it, and it keeps flying across the room breaking things.

Hey, Purp. Could you possibly post something about this being the 30th anniversary of the Beirut bombing? Having visited the memorial near Camp Lejeune a few weeks ago, I'm haunted by the young Marines we saw visiting, and the flowers and memorials left.
NYC firefighters donated a piece of one of the beams of one of the Towers to the Marines.
There's a plaque to Gold Star Moms there, and also a poem to the fallen in Beirut (off to find the poem).

Snowed here today and a few days ago. Nothing big, just enough to remind me that shortly we won't see the ground for 6 months. Ugh. Spray that hairspray I'll take the warming!

Eating low-carb will drop your triglyceride levels very significantly. Or at least, it did that for me. I don't remember the numbers, but it was not a small change.

Everyone Tsk Tsked Amanda Bynes when she went off the deep and , but I think it's an open secret she was abused as a kid by Hollywood bigwigs. That plus untreated bipolar disorder will seriously mess you up. Hayden Pennietierre or whatevs also supposedly abused.
I have no doubt at all Miley was abused; ppl say daddy did it but I don't think so. He seemed to be one of the few to me that actually did care, but when you let your kid be an unsupervised princess for years, you shouldn't be surprised when she grows up to look nothing like the sweet little girl you started out with.

We stuck with the "gruel" as my husband called it, and he lost nearly 20 lbs. in a month (!!!). I lost the 15 I wanted to lose. Neither of us was exercising.
Now, husband has learned how to eat, and has lost nearly 30 lbs., still without exercising. I plan on hitting the fitness center, or just getting out and power walking the three miles/day I used to do before my right knee became too painful.
Husband now agrees with me that he can eat anything in moderation, and portion size.

ALWAYS eat carbs with protein, always, and you don;t get the crash.
I wouldn't mention it if it hadn't actually worked, but my mom started drinking Rooibos Tea (an african bush tea) every morning, on recommendation it would lower her cholesterol. It worked! She steeps it night before and drinks it cold in the morning. We have the bloodwork to prove it actually worked. No clue why tho. Numi, Tazo, and Celestial Seasonings all sell their own variations of it.
