Analyst: "It's not a recovery. It's just bad."
— Ace

Oh, by the way, Obama's trying out the spin that we have to stop distracting him with these made up scandals so he can focus on the economy.

He didn't focus on it before. He wanted to focus on everything but the economy during the campaign.

And yet now... now. Now he's gotta focus.

I guess his theme will be, "Let me have a pass on the scandals so I can keep this good thing goin'."

Real GDP growth — the value of goods and services produced after adjusting for inflation — is 15.4% below the 3% growth trend of past recoveries, wrote Edward Leamer, director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast. More robust growth will be necessary to bring this recovery in line with previous ones.

“It’s not a recovery,” he wrote. “It’s not even normal growth. It’s bad.”

10 This is being repeated across the market in other sectors. Just look at the big lie they were trying to promote on mortgages.

We also have a stock market inflated by the currency Hindenburg. But that's about to crash and burn too.

The bottom line is there is some small, very selective job growth. But it is not sustainable, nor is it leading to better times any time soon with these market fundamentals.

But Dodd-Frank or Volker or  Bernanke is going to make it all right.

Sure.

The EPA was used to intimidate conservatives,  2. the IRS was used to     harass     conservative action committees and to defund them,  3.  The head of the TE division of the IRS  that was illegally targeting   potential GOP fundraising     met weekly in the white house     during 2010-2012, 4.    At least two democrats have been shown to commit vote fraud in 2012 so far, and yet somehow a margin of victory of 400K votes across 4-5 states  in the 2012 general election     is seen as legitimate.

So i owe 130K on the mortgage on a home worth 450K. I figure i could take out a 80% home equity loan (360K @ 3.5% interest) and pay off the existing mortgage leaving me 230K in cash.

If i invest that money in the market and it makes 7-8% return, i think i could pay the entire mortgage off over time with the P/I from that investment. If inflation were to kick in like it well could, i could come out way ahead on the deal.

What could possibly go wrong?

Exactly.  The economy (if you believe the govt stats) is kind of plodding along.  Usually it has a "bounce back" period of high growth after a recession, but this one never really had that, and whatever "recovery" we did have, if you even want to call it that, was jobless.  Thank you, ObamaCare.

As to whatever Obama is trying to say about it, everybody in here should be aware that he's a lying socialist SOB, anyway, so why get excited about anything he says?  He's always been about the socialism, regardless of the economic cost, and his only faux-economic initiative, "the Spendulus", was classic Cloward-Piven.

102 WASHINGTON DC: Scientists today announced the completion of a perpetual motion machine. Thought to be a fantasy, Hugh Fibber, Director of the NSF, said that PMM worked on an endless supply of energy. "The key was finding a method of converting lies into energy. We did it." The Energy Department noted that, using current measures, the nation is self-sufficient even when excluding the massive reserves in California, New York and Massachusetts. Asked how the PMM does not violate any of Newton's Laws, Mr. Fibber said that the law doesn't apply to him. In related new, the EPA announced the shutdown of all nuclear and coal power plants, the demolition of the nation's hydroelectric dams, and an environmental review of fracking permits.

What a fascinating mix of insanity, inanity, and imperturbability.

Oh, they may use that phrase, "Let's get out of the way..." but then you look at their plans and they all involve new rules and new regulations. That's not "getting out of the way." That's throwing up new obstacles. Getting out of the way would actually be very easy, from the standpoint of writing the legislation: * "The Minimum Wage Act of (whatever year it was passed) is hereby repealed." * "The Environmental Protection Agency is hereby abolished." * "The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is hereby abolished." Shall I continue?

200 Here we go again. We are just waiting for Obama to finish his patented, tried and true, "100,000 teachers and getting the rich to finally pay some taxes, their fair share really" jobs bill which was the center piece of his debates with Mitt "the resume" Romney. If only the GOP would stop driving the moderates from the party by focusing on the democrat's extinction level war on the party's base, then Obama could finally pivot to jobs instead of ensuring that journalists aren't conspiring with leakers to engage in espionage. Ah, actually, I don't even understand that part, but I do know that harping on the most unpopular and illegal aspects of Obama's failures as president is turning off the independents, as I'm sure Chris Christie and Huntsman will be all too willing to tell CNN or MSNBC.

If i invest that money in the market and it makes 7-8% return, i think i could pay the entire mortgage off over time with the P/I from that investment. If inflation were to kick in like it well could, i could come out way ahead on the deal.
What could possibly go wrong?

You recall that the first thing England did when sending over the Pilgrims 100 years ago when we wrote the constitution was to pave all the roads, and set us up with schools, firemen, and police. Now, with crumbling infrastructure (I almost fell off a cliff on my way to work, again!) and dangerous cuts in the budgets of federal agencies (which surely will cause more illegal actions on the part of our most glorious civil servants), how can we expect any sort of jobs growth?

Served his country, good guy, hope he wins but doubt he will. He embarrassed himself begging Deval Patrick for work but he'd be better then any Dem in that seat.
Posted by: @AuthorLMendez at June 05, 2013 12:36 PM

Gomez is an opportunistic fuckweasel who makes Scott Brown look like the New Reagan. He is a "Republican" because no one else in MA wanted to be.

Yes, he "served his country." My only response, born of having too many ex-military who have turned into worthless, self-serving goons (did someone say John McCain?) is "thank you for your service. Now fuck off."

He is apparently pro-abortion, pro-amnesty and bills himself as "a new kind of Republican." He crawled to Gov. Devil Patrick and begged for Kerry's Senate seat. His big claim to fame for that was supposedly that he gets along reeeeeal good with the Democrats. Also, being a Hispanic, his appointment woulda looked good to all of the south-of-the-border types in MA.

In other words, voters here have a choice: they can pick the Irish corrupt sack-of-shit political hack who has been livin' large on our dime for more than 30 years, or a Spanish-speaking POS who will side with the Christie/Rubio/Boner/Bitch McConnell wing of the Republican party.

P.S.: The Irish dude will win. I think it's a law here.

So, I get the growth in healthcare. But with a net population reduction as people who don't want to live their lives on welfare flee Cali, how can housing be expanding? I would bet that the rich people in California, the boutique white person voters, are the ones driving hospitality and housing markets, as they consume top shelf liquors and continue to build bigger houses and shopping malls the size of the Pentagon in what used to be the great outdoors.

Hospitality is a pretty wide swath.  It's    hotels and restaurants and spas,  bars and cafes and travel agents,    etc.   They're not manufacturing, but      the hospitality industry   DOES add to the economy,   especially by bringing in tourists who otherwise wouldn't spend their   money   in that particular location.

And the healthcare industry is more than just doctors and nurses.

Commerce is commerce.

217 But with a net population reduction as people who don't want to live their lives on welfare flee Cali, how can housing be expanding? --- Easy answer? Housing is continually renewed in areas like LA. People will buy a property, bulldoze the existing house, and build a new one because it is cheaper than improving the existing house or finding an empty lot.

243 remember the Hunstman/Christie rule: Any GOP action in furtherance of its core values is mere political posturing and only driving the moderates from the GOP. And plus, our base is yucky and thinks ghey marriage causes hurricanes because we listen to jayzuz and not to science. Yup, somehow the only lesson to be learned from our 2012 losses is that our radical right wing candidate who was endorsed by more newspapers than any other GOP candidate in decades, a former governor of a solid blue state, who ran on his "smarter, better" resume was too extreme. Or it could be that his GotV failed much like that asshole's did in 2008. And that our grassroots organizations were harassed into insignificance. Or that voter fraud, which doesn't exist except where it does, cost us a few toss up states. Nope, the only thing we should learn is that our popular values are driving the independents from the GOP, or something. And that fighting back or running on wedge issues is yucky when the GOP does it.
