And I Thought Things Couldn't Get Any Stupider
— Ace

Beyonce's new record is awful and obnoxious.

Of course a lot of her previous work was awful and obnoxious, but apparently some dolts took her bubblegum pop song "Single Ladies" as some kind of Empowering Manifesto, rather than the silly O Network bumper theme it was, and now they're all butthurt she's saying "bow down bitches" or whatever.

But this will still come as a shock to long-term Beyoncé fans. It seems that overnight we’ve been transformed from Beyoncé’s beloved single ladies, independent women and survivors, into her bitches. From Beyoncé singing, “all the women, independent, throw your hands up at me” to “bow down bitches” a change is underway, and it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

Rush Limbaugh noticed how very stupid this all is and made a prediction.

RUSH: So I'm telling you, folks, we're dealing in a genuine low-information universe. It's perhaps worse than we even know. I was talking to a friend about this event this morning, and I came to a conclusion. I've mentioned on this program a number of times that we've exhausted all of our persuasive attempts, other than a concerted TV ad campaign.

We've exhausted every bit of persuasive talent that we have. We own talk radio, and Fox News for the most part. We've done everything we can, and yet no impact. So we've all been waiting for an event. And when I've said this, people have assumed I meant a hurricane or a tornado, some sort of natural disaster, a God event. No, no, no. I don't mean that. I'm talking about "event" in politics. Let me tell you what I think it's gonna be. It'll be something that will wake people up about Obama.

It isn't gonna be anything serious. It isn't gonna be anything substantive. Something like this is gonna happen: Obama is gonna be talking to somebody on open mike, and he's gonna diss Justin Timberlake's latest CD, and the country is gonna get outraged, and they'll turn on Obama. See, it's gonna be something like that, or he'll diss Beyonce.

Well apparently it's already the Hot New Thing to diss Justin Timberlake's latest CD (he's like soooo over now, Serious You Guys), but I take his point.

The world is collectively embracing Dumb. Stupid, shallow, and puerile. Dumb is easy and easy is Holy.

It will work out exactly the way you think it will.

More Empowerment: I always thought this was a good bubblegum pop song, but empowering? Beyonce just seems to do "gangster"-style baiting and self-promotion from a girly-girl point of view.

I can't see how any adult could take any of this seriously.

110 I read the lyrics to the Beyonce song. That song's not about anything. But some bitch thinks it's talking to her and all her imaginary bitch-sisters, because it says "bitches" in it. And her dishwasher says KILL KILL KILL and the bees are humming her ex-boyfriends' name...and she's an Important Voice in the world's second most prestigious paper.

So boned.

And Rush's prediction is way wrong, even though I like it. The thing is, what's OK to "diss" is entirely up to Obama. If he says Timberlake blows, then Timberlake Officially Blows, and anyone who doesn't think so is Another Boring Old White Guy.

(And he wouldn't say Timberlake's record is no good. That's a thing white people say. Black people love it, and I'm sure Obama's handlers have informed him how to talk like a black person about it, should it come up.)

146 Personally, I think you're underestimating the FSA. Oh yeah, some of them couldn't think their way out of wet paper bag but a lot of them have weighed up the opportunities and rewards of hard work and the opportunities and rewards of not and decided to go with not. For NOW. It's not that they don't mind working or don't have any skills it's that the industrial base in this country has changed radically in less than 15 years and many people are now redundant and there aren't jobs available at equal pay/benefits. (less jobs now than 5 years ago.) This industrial base change was wrought by a) the public's relentless search for cheaper goods b) the growth of big box stores that can supply them more readily c) the internet which spreads the distribution and allows one guy in an office order 200k units from china to sell here. d) the companies were given incentives to leave (some weren't meant to be incentives but they were just the same) e) we also began allowing foreign sourced parts in our supply chain for defense. (bad move) f) the welfare system was ready and primed to be taken advantage of by the clever and the motivated. So welcome to the world that we've ALL OF US created for ourselves and our fellow citizens. We all bear some blame. And don't go thinking that all we have to do is cut folks welfare and everything will go back to being okay because ALL THOSE JOBS LEFT. They're being done in other countries now and then. There is *nothing* that Obama could "Dis" that would cost him more than a momentary slip in his numbers - at least from his base.

The left eat their young, figuratively and literally.  What just happened to Woodward?  How many times have we seen reports about Bill Clinton bashing Obama?  Liberals forgive everything; liberals burn heretics.

The only unforgiveable sin would be for Obama - or any other liberal - to say something conservative.

Bitchiness is embraced.  It's who they are.  As long as you are blindly loyal to The Cause - even though most liberals can't DEFINE it - you can slap at each other all day.

167 In typography there is something called a 'reverse'. Instead of seeing black text on white paper you see a solid of either color or black. You 'infer' what the words are by what is missing out of the solid. Most people of average intelligence and above can infer the missing information and read what is contained. (One thing I have noticed is that legal disclaimers are almost NEVER printed in reverse.) What I am going to propose to the people here, in order to cheer them up and educate others about how shit-awful is this economy, is to start noticing the reverse. I can drive down my street and infer by the missing shingles, the moss growing on the roof, the absence of roofers in the driveway, that something is happening. I can stand in line and notice strangers sullenly standing in line, avoiding eye contact with anyone, that this is the reverse of what I would have seen a decade ago. I notice the bottom shelf at the liquor store is decimated of inexpensive product, while the top shelf is fully stocked. I notice the reverse easily because my mind is trained to see it. Try noticing, then point out to others what you see.

176 If it makes you feel any better, my students see this nonsense for exactly what it is.  I've noticed a palpable shift in their thinking over the last few years (18-25 age group).

I made a joke, inappropriately, the other night in class about using a particular equation early and often and added "like democrats vote."  I shouldn't have said it but it just kinda rolled out there.  73 freshman physics students laughed.  Not like the laugh because the instructor said something not really funny but because it's the instructor you laugh... a genuine laugh.

We'll be ok.  We throw the younger generations under the bus quite a bit, but if you look, you'll see there's a lot of good kids out there.

177 Was just at the March Gladness basketball tournament.  One girls coach would remind her players to play defense by shouting out, "all the single ladies!"  Then they'd put their hands up.  It was kinda funny......ish.

They sure as hell weren't there 5-6 years ago, when I was last in school and all those kids fresh out of high school were ignorant of things I knew sophomore year and had no interest in learning, but begged for courses to be 'dumbed down' so they could get an abstract score that meant nothing, though 30 years ago it would have meant 'I'm smart, hire me', now rendered meaningless. And they stood in awe of me, managing to recall what I learned in high school 20 years before, while working full time, and pulling down all A's. And never feeling like I'd actually earned them. Damn it all.

182 I've been cogent since I was about say 10.
For 56 years now, I have NEVER seen them repeal regulations.
I have NEVER seen them reduce taxes.

Congratulations on waking up from your 15 year coma.

I understand you have a lot of catching up to do.  May I suggest doing a search on the "Bush tax cuts"?

You're welcome.

I can't see how any adult could take any of this seriously.

184 I saw a video on facebook making the case that Beyonce and Jay Z are both satanists, or devil worshipers or something.  They made the case that because Beyonce makes ugly ass faces when she performs she's actually possessed, and that Jay Z wears a lot of quotes from Alasdair Crowley.   Not really on topic but I thought I would just put it out there.  I thought I was wierd and amusing at the same time...

I think Rush's point can be surmised by something I think one of the Brietbard folks made  on twitter;  We have Symposiums, they have LoL Cats and LoL cats aways win.   Until people like Kloe Kardashian stats tweeting about reading Bastiat or Adam Smith I don't see being a dumbass going out of fashion any time soon.  ...Or start making Tomas Sowell memes.

Maybe it's where I teach.  Maybe it's the subject matter.  But... well, this as a tiny bit:  I carry in class (it's legal here).  There was one night a few weeks ago that it was uncomfortable and I disarmed while explaining electric fields.  Put it in my bag and pressed on.  Damn thing was diggin' into my ribs. They didn't even blink.

Spending time with these folks has renewed my hope.  They're wide-eyed and bushy-tailed.  They want to learn first principles, become problem solvers and critical thinkers, and their proud enough to want to excel but not too proud to listen.  And every semester it seems to be that number is growing.  I'm genuinely encouraged.

189 Tangonine, I sure hope you're correct, but for now I'll take the useless ones that graduated high school 5-10 years ago and are dumb as a stump and think somebody owes them a living.  It will keep me employed for the next 15 years or so until I retire or die.  After that all  bets are off.

191 The rap / hip-hop culture is misogynistic and bestial toxic waste (particularly the males therein). Perhaps the recording industry should be obligated to create their own Superfund program to clean it up. Just sayin'...

Brother, if I thought it was hopeless I'd spend my whole day sipping margaritas and surfing.  But I've got kids like JP (just his initials).  he's a sophomore and he's smarter than I am.  And for what reason or another, he's going to make a good man.

196 Re 188 - There is a video out there, saw it once, did not save link, but I think if you search "if it doesnt mean anything then why is it there?" you might find the video, was eye opening in an Alex Jones sort of way...in fact, the link was probably to AJ's site

197 Seeing as how I am a horny 20 year old, I will say something to defend Beyonce's credentials yo. I once read a letter to the editor written by a conservative woman defending the importance of marriage for society, as opposed to just living together; in particular contrasting the US with Europe. She wrote: " there's a reason why Beyonce said you shoulda put a ring on it."

198 "Here's the hilarious thing, saying I've clawed and slept my way to the top and you will bow down to me now is actually powerful. Saying hey I only have worth to the extent that I forced a guy to marry me? Not so much. " -------- That's actually what it says. I know it doesn't matter, but I actually went and listened to this at youtube. She's basically saying what you're saying the first sentence. She specifically says "dont just think of me as his little wife."

"*snigger*" Can we even use that word anymore? Surely, its been banned. Using it in any kind of sentence while riding on urban public transportation may get oneself gang banged. You know they even have secret drones now in this country.

201 Can't argue with the laziness, sloth and victimhood of today's yoots. Most of them, anyway. My Mom who is recovering from hip-replacement surgery at the age of 72 is being mostly cared for right now by my just-turned 15 year old niece. Same niece who volunteers as a teacher's aide at a charter school after finishing her own school day (she wants to be a teacher someday, at a charter school-my heart swells!) She dropped her best friend when that friend once offered her marijuana, she is considerate and polite to adults and peers alike, doesn't drink or swear and babysits her three younger sibs whenever her parents need her to (she took special classes-at age 12! in babysitting.) I am so proud of her. I think of her whenever today's youth get me down

Seriously now - when has it ever been otherwise?  You think that all who came before us were all wise and not a bunch of selfish, stupid, easily-panicked rubes, hicks, and marks?  PT Barnum has been dead for quite some time now.
