Michelle Obama introduced the films for best picture, then delivered the winner's name, from the price-waterhouse envelope.

The winner was Argo, a movie which the screenwriter made a point to say was about using peaceful options to solve problems. It smells an awful lot like the Obamas knew ahead of time that a useful movie might win.

(By the way it's a good movie. But that's irrelevant here.)

So, we will simply never be permitted to escape the Obama's. They aim to be omnipresent, sharing the spotlight with any positive news or positive message.

Dialogue hogged up by Ben Affleck. If there was an award for most "I"s and "me" uttered by a character that Ben Affleck would have won that award. President Carter comes on to brag about how all the hostages lived and we did it through diplomacy and without violence. I can't remember the exact quote but the brag about freeing them "without violence" is definitely in there. It is a total rewrite of history. It fails to mention - Operation Eagle Claw (or Operation Evening Light or Operation Rice Bowl)[2] was an American military operation ordered by U.S. President Jimmy Carter to attempt to end the Iran hostage crisis by rescuing 52 Americans held captive at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran on April 24, 1980. Eight American servicemen died --and it works out just great for Carter because-- 33 years later Carter can brag about how he didn't resort to violence. All Ben Affleck did is act as the Hollywood Pope and -- Canonized Carter.

Unbelievable (in the new sense of "everyday, unremarkable"). Haven't seen a movie in years, haven't watched anything else connected with Hollywood in even more years, and this stupid "awards" show in many many years.

I have been saying for a while that the degradation of America is complete. Apparently I keep jumping the gun. New lows arrive with regularity.

Tasker's helpful analysis of the winning movie helps explain why my idiot brother in law and sister apparently liked it. My sister actually thinks Carter was anything other than a disaster, and has been anything other than a vicious, totalitarian-loving snake POS since his presidency.

And this degrading spectacle is so perfectly awful - the racist ignoramus wife of a pathetic non-entity of a "president" who doesn't spend 10 minutes dealing with a US consulate/ambassador being taken out on the anniversary of the worst attack on US soil in history further disgraces her position by doing a cameo for a movie that whitewashes the last disgraceful mismanagement of a response to a violation of US diplomats and territory.

Have a few friends still at State, have not spoken with them for a while, may be time to see if they can believe what is going on around them. I feel like my whole life and direct experience never happened, beyond cosmetics I don't even recognize this country.

That said, the Oscars are a top-level cultural event, and I watched towards the end to see the "major" awards. Having Mooch appear, surrounded by servants who were dressed like Michael Jackson, should be seen as yet another ham-handed, shameless promotion by this celebrity-driven administration, but instead will probably be seen as "cool". My apolitical wife just rolled her eyes at me as I yelled at the tv. Perhaps with good reason. I just can't stand it anymore.
