— Ace Not to saddle up my hobbyhorse again, but wasn't it formerly the law that only aristocrats and noblemen could carry personal weapons?
Yes, that was the law. The right to be armed differentiated the noblemen from the commoners.
Jim Carrey wants to keep his guns. His life is valuable.

8 Was Carrey ever actually funny in anything?
I've never thought he was all that. funny.
He started out as a 'dramatic actor' in the 80's...did a vampire movie, and a small part in a Dirty Harry movie [The Dead Pool] as a drugged-out rocker.
But then, he started making fun of conservatives on a few talk shows...and voila!, he's a comedian.

In the German / Saxon / Celtic tradition, yes. Also in the Islamic tradition - if you were a Muslim, you could carry weapons around the countryside. And there were places like Italy and the Balkans which barely had government, so people went around armed because who's going to stop them?

Yes, from what I understand it was a capital offense in Medieval Europe for a serf to be caught with a sword of spear. It remained so through the ages. Even now in Great Britain the common man can own only shotguns.
If a slave was caught with a spear, he had it broken over his back. Anglo-Saxon law, I believe.
Certain weapons, like the longsword, may have been associated with the nobility, but the commoners had their own weapons - German peasants had big knives (grossmesser), and High to Late Medieval English peasants owned swords as well as bows, both Swiss and the Flemish were well known for their polearm-armed infantry, etc., etc.

Okinawan Kempo developed as a result of Japanese occupation. Masters of the form would toughen (and eventually deform) their fists until they could break bricks and pottery. The purpose, of course, was to break through Japanese bamboo armor and wooden shields and leather-clad skulls.
If you follow combatives training, you'll notice that all sorts of non-traditional unarmed fighting schools are springing up in Europe--particularly Britain--as well as in Australia and even in American blue states such as New Jersey. Basic point is: If we want to win, we need to show how their ideas HURT people, especially lead with minorities. Make them fear and make them afraid of Democrats.
Then, we can get to the "inspire, help and how we are better phase."
That's why we are losing: Fear. Day and night, there isn't a Dem speech that doesn't gin up fear first, last and always. Then, when they're sure their target won't listen to the other side anymore, they promise them free shit to keep them on board. You made me think, who's the last actual redneck who killed more than, say, two people? Like, not just his wife and the dog catcher she was banging. Redneck shooting sprees seem rare. Can you think of any?
I had to look it up. The last (and only in recent history) was the "Geneva County massacre," by Michael McLendon.
That name ring a bell? It doesn't for me. He killed ten people, barely scraped the edge of the news, and inspired no National Conversation.
Because the people he killed were in Alabama. So they don't count. Loser-on-Loser crime. Not news.
Notably, he was a cop washout. There's something that correlates with being a murderer: wanting to kill people and get away with it! Maybe that--rather than "mental illness"--is a sign that here's a guy you might want to forbid from owning guns. Next time we're pragmatically compromising sensibly with the well-intentioned gun-control rationalists who only want to protect public safety with common sense, how 'bout we offer this deal, instead of "expanded background checks" or whatever: You so much as apply for a cop job, you're stripped of your "civilian" 2A protection for life.
