Another Hoax "Racist" Incident: After High School Cancels Football Season Over Alleged Racist Messages, Police
— Ace

The outrage. The candlelight vigil. The accusation.

Isaac Phillips delivers a statement at a candlelight vigil in his honor, calling out his football coaches for what he says was a lack of support after racist graffiti was spraying on his home earlier in the week, at Lunenburg's gazebo park on Nov. 18, 2013. The graffiti was directed at Isaac and his status on the Lunenburg High School football team, prompting the vigil and the suspension of the football season indefinitely.

The facts:

The investigation into who spray painted a home with racist graffiti last month has turned toward the woman who lives there.

Police said on Wednesday that Andrea Brazier [mother of the alleged target of the racist graffiti] is now considered a “strong suspect” in the case.

Officers say they executed a search warrant on Tuesday and seized two cans of spray paint and ammunition from the home.

Brazier, who is white, and her husband Anthony Phillips, who is African American live at the home with their 13-year-old son, Isaac. Brazier initially cast suspicion on her sonÂ’s Lunenburg High School football teammates, saying he had been bullied in the past.

The schoolÂ’s superintendent cancelled the football teamÂ’s final game on Thanksgiving after no one came forward to take responsibility.

On Monday, Lunenburg police announced that there was no conclusive evidence that anyone on the high school football team is linked to the graffiti.

A police affidavit obtained on Wednesday indicated that Brazier had stopped cooperating with investigators and had changed her story several times.

Initially she told officers that her 6-year-old daughter heard someone outside of her window and saw someone wearing a feather head dress on either November 14 or 15. She later said that alleged incident occurred on November 4.

Police discovered two cans of spray paint in the family's firepit, burned up. They suspect those cans were used to spray the "hate messages." The father claims the spray paint was used in some kind of home-improvement project in the living room, but apparently the police don't believe them. Not only did the mother begin changing her story, implausibly claiming the racist messages were left November 4, or alternately, November 14 of 15 (10-11 days later-- hardly a plausible mistake), but the father offered three "distinct" versions of his story as to how the spray cans wound up in the firepit.

As the police began asking these questions, the mother began saying she just wanted the investigation to end, and when they put it to her that someone in the family had defaced her own car, she began saying "Okay" and then "You don't understand."

The school superintendent who collectively punished the football team for something they didn't do, Loxi Jo Colmes, is now saying she didn't punish anyone at all.

Colmes also addressed the cancellation of the Thanksgiving football game. “I never looked at the cancellation as a punishment although it is certainly viewed that way by many,” Colmes said. “In the end the safety of students and attendees at the game was deemed to be of paramount importance. At no time did I or any employee of the schools indict or implicate any of our players. In fact, my statements were that the graffiti investigation could NOT be limited to the team.”

Uh-huh.

For a really interesting analysis of the phenomenon of racial hate hoaxing (for fun and for profit), read David Thompson. Here he speaks generally of people in the Militancy Industrial Complex:

In order to maintain a self-image of heroic radicalism - and in order to justify funding, influence and status - great leaps of imagination or paranoia may be required. Hence the goal posts of persecution tend to move and new and rarer forms of exploitation and injustice have to be discovered, many of which are curiously invisible to the untutored eye. Thus, the rebel academic tends towards extremism, intolerance and absurdity, not because the mainstream of society is becoming more racist, prejudiced, patriarchal or oppressive – but precisely because it isn’t. As mainstream society becomes less fixated by race, gender, sexuality, etc., so peddlers of grievance and victimhood must search out - or invent - something to oppose. Overstatement and escalation are all but inevitable.

It didn't pass the smell test to start with, but the school admin. went full postal on the allegations (unsupported) Where do they get their reputations back?

Brief O/T:  yesterday Hewitt really jumped the shark with his pathetic effort to rationalize CJ Roberts' absurd decisions and behavior.  Had Yuval Levin on, asked him about his (Hewitt's) ridiculous idea that somehow the baseless/lawless decision re O-care would work out somehow due to the backlash against the disaster that is O-care in practice.

Like Hewitt himself when interviewing one of the "journalist" idiots he likes to have on, Levin tiptoed very carefully (you could tell he wanted to say "What the fuck, Hugh?  That's idiotic").  But he made the key point indirectly - (paraphrasing) "well the court has a role in the system, and that isn't as a political balancer or game-player".

My sense of doom derives not just from the overwhelming evidence of national retardation documented here by the hour, but from the astonishing mediocrity of the "conservative" punditocracy, Hewitt being an important example due to his actual sense and erudition that nonetheless fail him when the chips are down.

The warrant could've been broad enough to cover "explosives" or other dangerous objects.

Or it could be that LE is allowed to confiscate any objects they consider to be hazardous or that could be considered for potential retaliation for the search.

Or their may be laws that don't allow them to possess the ammo. (in some states you are not allowed to possess ammo for a weapon type you don't own.)

Anyone who worries only about the background check and other sideways gun registration gimmicks doesn't understand the amount of constitution violating laws that are already on the books.

166 -

It is an awfully big stretch to equate the two.  For one thing, Penn State was  guilty of crimes.  For another, any football player on that team would be able to transfer without loss of their eligability status, if  they had closed the program.

It  is a punishment for any football player today to be associated with that program.

Close the whole school?  I don't care.  It's a university, which means it's a den of rogues and  lowlifes, I can't see how the world would be any worse off  without it.

Kids comes out pretty white-looking, mom convinces suspicious black dad that she just has dominant genes or something (it happens). Suspicions in his mind fester for 13 years. As kids reaches puberty, old jealousies emerge as the kid does not mature to look like dad. Dad accuses Mom afresh of cheating of him 14 years earlier. Mom comes up with a plan: Have the community identify the son as perceived as black with the fake racist graffiti. Goal? To convince Dad, who will have no choice but to think, "Gee, I guess my son must really be half black -- everyone else sees him that way." Infidelity accusations successfully deflected.

I thought that having a stenchy dog pad in the garbage would keep the bears out of the trash. No. They don't care. I'm sure genuine hate crimes exist, but almost none of the big publicity hate crimes are genuine. Basically, if there's a hate crime and you don't immediately know the perpetrator, it is almost surely a hoax.

292 I wish these people would learn that 99.9% of people could give a shit about their interracial marriages, transgenderism, homosexuality or any other part of their lives.

It's their own self-loathing, insecurities or perhaps self-doubt about their situation.

What liberals have taught these people is to play the victim. Because we are all victimized by the bogeyman, the Republican, the "hater"- simply since they might have a view that is contrary or perhaps steeped in facts or the wisdom of others actions.

This is nothing but thought despotism. The alleged philosophy of tolerance and diversity is nothing of the sort. They want to force their belief on others and subjugate people to their way of thinking. It's the epitome of  oppression and intolerance.

295 #268... Generally no, but people w more money tend to live there because its near the highway, near enough shopping outlets to be satisfactory, the land is cheaper, and its marginally better than Fitchburg/Leominster w/o having to pay a premium of being slightly closer to Boston. 303 All jokes aside, this story was BS from day one. A vandal doesn't care if something will be easy to fix (if it can be fixed at all). Spray paint, low to the ground (where it'd be harder to see too), which can be easily pressure-washed? Doesn't sound like a vandal to me. Sounds like someone trying to make just enough of a mess that it can be considered a big deal, without the work of cleaning the mess up.

Posted by: FGCUJames at December 05, 2013 11:22 AM (i2t1q)

304 Spray cans in the fire pit.

Because only a woman (not all woman, but it must have ben a woman) would be so technologically unaware to throw a pressurized paint can into the fire, where it could explode. Men, along with testicles and a predisposition for beer, are born with the knowledge not to throw spraypaint cans into the fire.

Posted by: zombie at December 05, 2013 12:26 PM (+cx5n)

Well, being a guy born with testicles (reaches down to make sure), and a predisposition for beer, I often do throw my used spray cans into the burning barrel. Because another thing us guys are into is stuff that goes Bang!!!  Big dirty fun. But I'm not stupid enough to hang my face over the top of the burn barrel to watch for the explosion. And, truth be told, very few spray cans these days ever explode in a fire. The manufacturers seem to have managed to make them with valves that burn out and dissipate the pressure harmlessly. Pity, that. My harmless fun, all spoiled.

But I wouldn't throw aerosol cans into an open fire, unless, I planned to immediately un-ass the surrounding area, because getting hit by hot, flying debris can ruin your whole day.

305 The schools in that part of Massachusetts don't have what is known as school choice among public schools and the Lunenburg football team hasn't been very good for a while. But the town next door, Leominster, has been a regional powerhouse for many years, this year included. After this incident the boy was able to transfer to, surprise Leominster. From my understanding the boy is a very good football player and his stock would only rise by being on a great team. The only other way to go there would have been for his parents to sell their home and move, but why do that if you can perpetrate a racial hoax. With the gov't and school officials in this loony sate any idiot could see them over reacting immediately. It worked for a while but I don't think his mother thought it would be deeply investigated as much as it was. It's unfortunate that those in power rushed to judgement and ruined the school's and players reputation.

308 Liberal-left goalpost-moving. Some people just can't handle winning. You see the same thing in the environmental movement. They were (somewhat rightly) concerned with the quality of the air and water in the 1960s, so here comes the Clean Air Act and Clear Water Act. Fast-forward 30 years and the SOx and NOx are mostly gone, gas is no longer leaded and the PCBs and other nasties are out of the water. So...declare victory? Hell NO! Change the goal to something else, like a trace gas present in parts-per-million and necessary for life on Earth. Complain about metabolized prescription drugs in drinking water and hormone-like compounds in parts-per-billion concentration. Nobody wins, because then they wouldn't be a victim with a grievance and they would be unable to Care More Than You (TM).
