AoS Podcast Returns Preview
— DrewM

Slow Friday in July.

Good news...the Ace of Spades Podcast should be back today. We went a little....long so Andy's got some editing to do.

One thing we talked about turns out to be today's JurnoList story (example 1, 2 and 3)...the McCain led surrender on Obama nominations is bad for the GOP.

We also have a discussion about the Marissa Alexander case and why it's not even remotely comparable to the George Zimmerman trial or something conservatives should get behind.

Other topics covered that may or may not make the cut....Liz Cheney runs for the Senate from her home-state of Virginia Wyoming and Detroit's bankruptcy/the folly of liberalism.

Oh and someone claiming to be "Ace" showed up. In reality though, who knows who it was.

8 That wasn't a warning shot.

Warning shots don't go through the wall behind the person you're trying to "warn."

And you don't fire a "warning shot" at your "alleged abusive husband"* with his kids standing there next to him.

And you call 911 after your warning shot if he runs away--not sit down and watch TV.

12 Is there anything conservative McCain?

Posted by: dogfish at July 19, 2013 06:33 AM (nsOJa)

13 Yeah... It seems weird to me that anyone would conflate the two situations (Zimmerman/Alexander). The only reason I can think of (beyond gross stupidity) is deliberate malfeasance. That kind of "well you supported this instance of gun use, so you must support all instances of gun use!" crap the Prog/Commies pull all the time. Like the fact they can't seem to differentiate between an abortion at 20 weeks or less and an abortion after 20 weeks. Or between an elective abortion, and one based on medical necessity.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) - Passing through Rage & Out the Other Side at July 19, 2013 06:34 AM (/PCJa)

14 I propose recording it on an advanced technology platform. Perhaps convert the sound into mechanical vibrations, which are microscopically engraved on a substrate. Put the cut path into a spiral for compactness, in cylindrical or circular form. This would be less susceptible to corruption in case of EMP.

20 13 AllenG,

It's really easy to get caught up in trying to reverse engineer who is running who the Media or Barry but in reality it is enough to understand that the press sees themselves as policy actors and they are NEVER just "making honest mistakes."

Any Republican that does not attack the notion that there is a lack of bias or policy preference and shading in the media is too dumb to be reeelected.

Plus, self-defense experts will tell you that warning shots are bullshit and will get you in trouble. You're either in fear for your life or grievous bodily injury or you're not. If the situation calls for self defense, you shoot your attacker, period.

54 (from Headline post) 43 @29

Texas is definately going blue and the GOP is going to help it along.
======
Not really.

Their entire strategy is to run a Hispanic.* That was their only chance.

But, they fucked up. The let the national leftists run the show.

Who wet themselves over killing more babies. And they pumped over a million bucks into the coffers of baby-killer Wendy--who will not run for reelection since the new "F you VRA" boundaries are in place and make her district more Republican.

Now, what's a super warrior for Moloch to do with a cool mil?

Castro the Commie out of San Antonio doesn't have a million in his war chest. That's who they wanted/needed to run.

Now, we got the one-trick pony baby killer with an inflated head against Castro trying to appeal to the Catholic Hispanics--while Abbott on the other side has been at the forefront of protecting life.

Heh.

*They bought into the manipulated and phony polling as deeply as the Republicans. Hint: Texas ain't the US.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is considering canceling a fall summit between President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, a move that would further aggravate the already tense relationship between the two leaders.

The White House is dangling that option over the Russians as Moscow considers a temporary asylum petition from Edward Snowden, the American accused of leaking information about classified U.S. intelligence programs.

Listening now to the cable TV experts talking about how the country needs an honest dialog about Detroit going bankrupt.

Just like they're honest about Rachael Jenteal being "smart" in some streetwise, ghetto way, now they're trying to say Detroit's bankruptcy has nothing to do with how the city was run by democrats for the past 50 years.

Does anyone believe Jenteal could make change for a $3.17 sale out of a $10 bill?  As long as everyone in the media continues to ignore the fact that she and the vast majority of inner-city utes are illiterate morons (not in the good "moron" sense), nothing will change.

The same with Detroit.  Unless and until there is some honesty in what went wrong, more cities will meet the same fate.

182 Just curious: When people on a pure podcast talk about "We're going long today," to what are they referring?  It is not as if it is a TV slot limited to 22 minutes, or x number of hours on the radio.

Why are podcasters worried about going "over time" when it's just a matter of digital space?  Is server space that expensive anymore?  Are listeners going to be that upset if the get *more* stuff in the podcast?

I'm only being partially snarky: I know if something is, say, one hour longer than usual downloading can be a pain, but why concern about adhering to a strict length?

Around the time of the Detroit riots, the local Black Panthers announced that they would be hunting white children, so we got rides to school or escorts for a few months.

195 I've got to pop back to the previous thread for a moment:

"Rich parents hire play-date consultants to help kids play better... "

Hey, I could do this. I'm about ready for a second childhood, and, have decades of experience to bring to bear. Plus..., I had a hell of a great childhood. I figure I know stuff about having fun that these 'parents' are clueless about. Treehouses built from scrap, Soapbox Derby racers, built from scrap, slingshots (lots of sling shots), playing in lawn sprinklers, wading in creeks looking for crawdads, playing King on the Mountain, Tag, Simon Says, Crazy 8's, Old Maid, mud clod fights, tree climbing, water-gun fights, model trains, BB guns (Gasp!), you name it.....

Give a kid a free hand, a coffee can full of rusty nails, some scrap lumber, an old hammer, and pretty soon, voila!, a clubhouse. Adults are taking the childhood out of childhood and filling the void with junk. I see elaborate play-sets and understand that the parents are trying to do the right thing, but the experience for the child is not the same as climbing a tree, securing a rope to a limb, and then tying a stick on the end of the rope to make a swing. In the first case, the parent is hoping to entertain the child, in the second the child has *achieved* something, understands it, and has fun to boot.

I know..., I'm preaching to the choir...

199 DETROIT SAGA Industry and Politics: get it while the gettin's good. Who all keeps sayin' "It's none of your business how much global corporatist board members earn," or award themselves, 1) regardless of whether their personal income is from salary, bonuses, or TAX FUNDED bail-outs; 2) regardless of whether their corporation/business made any profit; 3) regardless of the 'trickle down' job performance quality? When corruption applies liberally all ways, across the board, it took everyone's complicity to make things as bad as they are in Detroit. That includes politicians "representing" the citizenry who are employed by the industry that owns the politicians and the citizenry... Corruption. You'll find it individually, and in the large party of people. Where there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY, you'll see corruption absolutely consume everything. It isn't that liberal socialists aren't at fault for our nation's economic woes. But pretending that only Democrats fall in that shit pile is only the neoconservative CYA pretext for "Moi?" since it takes two to tango. To the degree that Americans are unwilling as people to see (let alone to admit) our own faults, the majority elects to stay stuck on stupid. For instance, the earth shattering NEED "requiring" TARP as if a solution was propagandized and fabricated by neoconservative Republicans in Bush's administration and that Congress of "bipartisan shared values" socialists (including McCain with Obama). What's worse, and what too many Republican voters refuse to acknowledge, is that the Republican Leadership set the stage for too big to fail global financial corporations to become propagandized as too big to jail, as well. And the ones in charge of the USS Titanic were Republican neoconservative globalists, walking away with TARP as their own private BONUS income, provided not only by taxpayers, but by every future generation of Americans until the debt is repaid. That is obscene. Yada yada. I heard him, and was not impressed by his lame effort. "Bush warned against the corruption of Fanny 'n Freddy MacMae" without noticing each warning was mere lip service, no bite, no utilization of his "political capital" to install fiscal conservancy measures. It's hard to think of something economical that GWB actually cut back on, aside from his TEMPORARY tax cuts (while he legislated MORE government than evah, and spent more than prior administrations, increasing our national debt to China), and his tax "REBATE" that required taxpayers to repay by year's end. Btw, that so-called 'rebate' cost a lot of money for the bureaucracy to accomplish. /Words, just words. Bush farted on tax "rebate". Obama farts on "tax". The SCOTUS farts. / 'modernity/abbreviation'...let that apply to government -- to shrink in time.

204 This is all about parents not wanting to spend time with their children. Let someone else teach them how to give or recieve a bloody nose. I agree to a point. One part though could be a lack of knowledge. My childhood mostly sucked balls, so I don't have that many cool things to impart to my kids. I think another big part of it is the fear that's been hyped in recent years about kidnapping and such so that parents don't let their kids go outside to play, let alone do the exploring that used to be de rigeur.

So the piece of software I'm writing formats our ecom sales data and sends it to a 3rd party program that balances everything and then adds that to the general ledger. Sometimes we'll have to handle discounts, sometimes by percentage (if you've already figured out my problem, don't spoil it for the rest of the class). So, I just asked my business owner: "How do we handle discounts on the Order level when combined with discounts on the Line level?" And then spent 5 minutes explaining the problems inherent here. The answer? "I don't know, I'll have to ask X and get back to you." Until she gets back to me, I'm stuck. Again.

So which comes first? $5.00 off of item X (before it gets tallied into the order total) and then 20% off the resulting order total, or 20% off the order total and then an extra $5 off item X?

282

The biggest thing about parenting is realizing that they eventually have to leave the nest, and our whole job is to equip them.  That means that "our kids are not us - they're separate individuals".   I see so many kinds in college that never learned how to separate (helicopter moms from hell).

So the sooner they learn that it's THEIR job to amuse themselves and take care of themselves, the better off they are.  Of course, you watch them, but from a difference, and intervene only when absolutely necessary.

So which comes first? $5.00 off of item X (before it gets tallied into the order total) and then 20% off the resulting order total, or 20% off the order total and then an extra $5 off item X?

Go bottom up.  Line discounts applied first, then order discounts if the subtotal (incl line discounts) matches or exceeds the order discount threshold.

That's how Kroger does it with their  "$X Dollar Off on  Next  $50 Order" coupons.

If you add the disclaimer that "Order Discounts Applied to all Regularly Priced Items" then the Order Discount would not take an additional percentage off nor include the already discounted line items.

327 My personal favorite dive from my misspent youth Club Dante(formerly Dante's Inferno) Berlin DE
----------------------

Your generation apparently doesn't understand what a 'dive' is.

One of the first qualities of a dive, is that it smells.... bad. A mixture of stale beer, booze, and vomit.

Most of people there will NOT be cheerful, let alone dancing.

The men will likely be grizzled and middle-late aged, and have bad breath.

The women (there are always one or two) will be frowzy, middle aged or later, bad hair-dye jobs, and, if they are wearing them, hose with runs or holes in them.

The bartender will not give a fuck about anything except what you want to order, and forget about a Long Island Iced Tea.

The 'Restroom' will be a place that you go only because you don't want to use the alley. Not the the alley would not be more sanitary, but marginally less safe. While there, and holding your breath, you try not to touch anything, including the door. If there is one.

If you want people to move into a city, they need to have to want to move there.

Have the state and city agree to an exclusive arrangement where all public schools are eliminated inside the city and each child receives a full voucher.

Total, unadulterated free market capitalism in education.

Eliminate property taxes based on finished value of the homes and place a single per-year tax on each lot (different rate for different locations).

For the foreseeable future, offer private funded services in lieu of city services (police, fire, garbage, public lighting).

Stand back and let the land rush begin.

Even if their toy does compute the function, there's no guarantee that "math" gets through to their brain. Bankrupt city didn't happen before the industry and the citizenry went bust. Of those still employed in Detroit (the radio host for example), gotta wonder how many of them pay more in bank overdraft charges than they earn a year. It's one thing to live via credit that balance gets paid off regularly. Quite another to try living off DEBT. That only works when you're the 1% elitist insiders making billions of dollars on selling worthless derivatives to middle class investors in mutual funds. No doubt, Detroit invested heavily in that sort of 'smart' shit. That might explain why it looks like an apocalyptic movie set. Maybe they can rent entire neighborhoods out to movie makers for demolition scenes. Catch-22: you blow it, you own it.

So the piece of software I'm writing formats our ecom sales data and sends it to a 3rd party program that balances everything and then adds that to the general ledger.

Giving this  more thought.  It's your sales data so your sales system should have the original item price for each order.  Just spitballin' here but why not extract that data from  the sales system and   avoid a  backwards recalculation  that's likely to get it wrong on  occasion?

That sounds like a lot of detail to get into the General Ledger for each order.

On the local Denver news they did a story on a 13 yr old girl (with a common Spanish surname) whose SS# had been used on at least 4 occasions. Her mom discovered this when she applied for some benefit and was informed it had already been maxed out. Of course, no one in the story - not the family, the reporter, or the state bureaucrat interviewed whose job it is to verify SS#'s used for employment (witha staff of *4*)  - mentioned that the girl's SS# was likely used by someone lookin' to get documented.

Holder and the professional race baiters are never, ever going to let this go. I can easily see him being locked up on hate crime charges and the trial delayed over and over again, to be used as fodder for the midterm elections. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Progs to deflect from black-on-black crime, black unemployment, Detroit bankruptcy etc. etc. Bread and circuses. Zimmerman needs to get out of this country pronto. I'd already be gone if I were him. He will never, EVER be allowed another fair trial.

464 Slow Friday, eh? The Evil Left never slows down. [redacted], join Daily Kos in demanding that state legislatures across the country repeal “stand your ground” laws. Click here to sign the petition. It’s not just Florida, and it’s not just Trayvon Martin. Twenty-four states have a “stand your ground” law on the books, where armed vigilantes can take the law into their own hands. In Texas, a man left his house to shoot and kill two people he suspected were burglarizing his neighbor—ignoring the 911 dispatcher. In Louisiana, a man fired his gun at a van that was driving away from him—killing a 15-year-old passenger. In Miami, a homeowner chased a suspected burglar for over a block—eventually stabbing him to death. In South Carolina, an armed burglar who killed the person whose house he was robbing is now using “stand your ground” to appeal his murder conviction. Click here to find out which states have “stand your ground” laws—and sign our petition, urging state legislators to repeal them. What's more, “stand your ground” has made the problem of racial bias in our criminal justice system even worse. Whites who kill blacks are 354% more likely to be acquitted under “stand your ground” than the reverse. 465 Re: Forged passports.
Nope, doesn't fit the narrative.

I adopted my daughters after the involuntary termination of parental rights because of drug use and general dirtbag behavior.  When the youngest was less than a year old, her bio-mother used the infant's SSN to get cable TV, phones service etc. because her own credit was so bad.  We got her a new SSN.

Friday Feel Good Story

Okay, so last night IÂ’m going out to grab a quick bite. The restaurant is several blocks over in an area that has more than a few section 8 residences. One in particular is occupied by your typical white trash Obama-leech. You know the kind, fat, dumb, four kids by three different men. The apartment is a slum, with the requisite broken kiddie car among the weeds and an old gas grill held together by duct tape on the porch.  You get the picture.

So last night I noticed the welfare witch was having a “porch sale.” The usual shit, broken toys, dishes, old plus sized clothes from the 80sÂ… apparently she was trying to scrape up a few bucks for something.  But hereÂ’s the best part, she still has an  Obama/Biden 2012 sign in front of her houseÂ…  crumpled and weather beaten, but still there... hanging on to the dream.  I had to do it. I slowed down and yelled out the window “howÂ’s that hope and change workinÂ’ out for ya?” and sped off laughing as she cursed me.

473 Well, the flush valve and flapper are new'ish, I replaced that with a FluidMaster 4000 a few years ago.  I'll get a floor seal and new tank/bowl gasket for sure.

Hold down bolts?  There's probably a fucking cheap ass PVC flange there...undoubtedly broken in need of a repair kit..

In Texas, a man left his house to shoot and kill two people he suspected were burglarizing his neighbor—ignoring the 911 dispatcher.

this is the case in TX Hogarth is referring to, from QX's wiki:

Quanell X led a rally in front of the Pasadena, Texas, home of Joe Horn on December 2, 2007. Horn had shot and killed two men - Hernando Riascos Torres (aka Miguel Antonio DeJesus) and Diego Ortiz, illegal aliens and members of a burglary and fake ID ring from Colombia. The pair had broken into a neighbor's house. Horn, against repeated requests of the 911 operator not to confront the burglars, exited his home to confront them. On the 911 tapes Horn exclaims, "Move, and you're dead", followed by three shotgun blasts.

Quanell X, who thought the shootings may have been racially motivated, approached Horn's house to speak to the media. He was overwhelmed by several hundred counter-protesters protecting Horn from Quanell X's accusations. The crowd of counter-protesters included bikers revving their motorcycles, many of them chanting, "USA," "Go home," and "We love our country; what do you love?" while waving placards, Texas flags, and US flags. Quanell X could not be heard over the noise, even when using a bullhorn, and left the area about eight minutes later. He returned soon after with more supporters and attempted to speak again, but the counter-protests continued. Riot police were readied in case of violence between the two groups. Quanell X believed that because Horn was white and not black, he was not prosecuted. On June 25, 2008 the case was sent to a grand jury to decide whether or not Horn should go to trial. On June 30, 2008 Horn was cleared by a Harris County Grand Jury in the deaths of Ortiz and Diego after two weeks of testimony.    Quanell eventually made a speech on another street away from Horn's house. The speech included chants of "black power" and the exhortation for blacks to ignore "white law."

Sven, apparently that guy is an Uber-Rino, writes for the Weekly Standard. He was scolding us about mocking Obama for not allowing Detroit to go bankrupt on his watch. You see, Obama meant Detroit, not Detroit. Oh, and how come nobody mentions white flight?
