Massachusetts Senate Special Election Special Thread that is Special
— CAC

Especially for those living in Massachusetts.
Anyways, I'll call the race once it's obvious, which will probably be 15 minutes in.
Note: extremely low turnout reported in Massachusetts today. As of 6pm in Boston it was under 70k, just over half of 2010's through the same time. So who knows, we may get a slight surprise.

But I doubt it.
start-
stop- at 8:26est: Markey wins.

51 I never understood why people got so pissed at Brown,  anyway.  He never said he was a conservative.  He was elected with the help of the Tea party and others in order to stop Obamacare.  That was the sole reason.

His vote was rendered meaningless because Harry Reid decided to ignore Senate rules.

I sometimes think a lot of people get angry because they don't pay attention.

Anyway,  I would be happy to see Gomez win just to see Markey lose and Obama embarrassed.

68 To my surprise, my girlfriend -- who is a poll worker -- tells me our little town, a dot on the map so tiny the Boston TV weathermen never notice it, had a fairly decent turnout. Something like 600-plus voters in our precinct.

The majority will go for Markey, I'm certain. Hey, it's Massachusetts and being a) Irish, b) entrenched among the public teat-suckers -- for 37 years -- and touting yourself as "kinda like" Saint Teddy Kennedy trumps being a Navy SEAL and having a Hispanic surname any damn day.

No great loss. Liberal wackos will support liberal wackos every time in this Free Shit state. And Gomez is really a Democrat anyway, and a self-serving pimp politically. Ol' Gabe woulda done better in CA, where Mexicans are and probably always will be Flavor of the Month.

As usual, I voted and left the polling place wondering why ZI bothered. I hate this friggin' state.

83 #59  No,  that is not what I meant.  Brown is who he is,  a liberal RINO.

HOWEVER,  the stuff about him stabbing people in the back and being a traitor is just silly.  He never pretended to be anything but what he was.  He's from Massachusetts,  remember?

So you can be mad he didn't vote with the GOP on issues you thought were important,  but people should be surprised or act like they have been betrayed.

When you elect a RINO,  the best you can hope for is that they keep to their most important campaign promises.  Brown did that.  The rest,  well,  he was just what one would expect.

Gomez would be the same.  However,  since I know a conservative wouldn'thave a chance,  I will take a RINO just to stick it to Markey,  Reid and Obama.

I hope I made myself clear.

91 Hey, while waiting to prove that if the population of today's Mass. was transported back in time to 1773, King George III would have just been able to buy them off with goodies: You know, now that the VRA has had sanity restored to it, it might be true that--as Madisonian Number 10 predicts--that people in more isolated or cocooned areas (and this includes cities, even big ones) might try something they shouldn't. Power corrupts, after all. And that would be bad. Those in power should not try to rig the system to stay in power, regardless if race is a motivator or not. Kinda unJeffersonian. It seems to me that the states of the former Confederacy have a very vested interest in making sure nothing untoward happens, because they sort of are on probation. WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT if they had, at the state level, some kind of roving "super-IG" to take care of government corruption before it truly festered? I mean, wouldn't that be great?

125 so lack of GOP GOTV kills again? Posted by: joeindc44 at June 25, 2013 08:11 PM

No, that ain't it at all.

In MA, a Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown or Bernie Sanders could run as a Republican and still be out-liberaled by whoever runs on the D ticket. Voters here are too used to making their "X" for the Liberal Lions (EMK, Kerry, Lieawatha Warren, Bawney Fwank), and will not be deterred by stupid shit like facts.

We have an out-of-state governor who is in essence a junior-grade Obama: lazy, deceitful and mocha-skinned. He has filled government with his corrupt cronies and they have done massive damage to the state, but if he was up for reelection today he'd be in in a walk.

You'd have to transplant some sense into MA voters -- and their Republican candidates -- before ever seeing a change. And then, all the Democrats would have to do is dredge up another Kennedy and the whole effort wouldn't be worth shit.

Posted by: MrScribbler at June 25, 2013 04:22 PM (/RIVS)

126 RWC, that aint nothing.  The Bernie Sanders [S-VT] Section V bribe is $1.5 billion for youth job employment along with transportation assistance and day care.  Many are saying transportation means bus and subway, the actual law just says transportation so I sense a loophole as large as an Escalade there.

130 h/t Drudge, from Rolling Stone's interview w. Stevie Wonder: We're going to do some traditional gospel stuff, but I'm thinking about doing a gospel song in Arabic. I'm going to twist it all up in different ways, because I think everyone needs to hear the word of the gospel. The word of gospel really is love and it really is about people following the word, whether they read the Quran, the Torah or the Bible, whatever they read. At the end of the day, whatever you read, you know the god you believe in talking about people loving one another. It's talking about we don't need millions of handguns to make an understanding clear. It's not about the religion – it's about the relationship that you have with the one you serve and you worship.

Actually WINNING THE GODDAMNED ELECTION. A minor and perfectly forgivable oversight, I'm sure we can all agree.

267 So, takeaway from today's VRA decision: UnConstitutional act denying American's of today rights based upon blood crimes of ancestors. Senate was 98-0 in favor in 2006. 98-0. Obviously done by GOP because of power to demonize the media possesses, and the willingness of the media to use it. Double standards and all. Upshot--institutional lack of diversity in newsrooms disenfranchises Americans and allows there government to mistreat them. This time the harm done was relatively mild. What will the future bring? I think some Duke Lacrosse players could tell us.

300 #282  I suggest short clips of his speeches interspersed with fragments of their real lives.  For example,  he would talk about the economy improving and then shots of children moving back home with their parents,  husbands getting pink slips,  and assorted things showing  him to be a liar.  And some cussing.

Then show the global warming speech with shots of frost in Michigan at the end of May,  ruined crops due to cold,  etc.

Lots of possibilities!

But sure, I suppose continuing to vote for "Republicans" who would probably lose Democrat primaries in the south because they're too statist and liberal is a good strategy for bringing Constitutional government to the US of A.

320 Dakar's small people 'bunkered' for Obama's visit http://is.gd/gv0LCQ Ordinary Senegalese are drawing lessons from the past and leaving nothing to chance so that they avoid “foreseeable” embarrassing circumstances during President Barack Obama’s visit, which commences on June 26. Mbaye Ndiaye, an economist formerly employed by the Trade ministry, says the visit will cause losses of several million dollars, especially to the informal sector “who will take months to recover”. “While the Americans are capable of making our country a better place, Obama is also capable of making our small businesses in Dakar poorer,” argues Ndeye Diop, a doughnut and coffee seller in a conversation with her colleague. “No matter...some of us can still harvest from Obama’s field”, says Aisha Konaté, a sex worker with nearly two decades of experience and who boasts of having contacts capable of roping in “high profile” clients to her private abode.

There is a good chance that Rubio and Ayotte voting for the amnesty shit sandwich yesterday broke any spirits that were mending.  You have to give people a little time to convince themselves it will be better this time when you ask them to vote for a RINO.  You can't betray them and then ask them to vote RINO the very next day.  There are limits to how delusional people can convince themselves to be.
