— andy On today's episode, PhD's Drew M., John E., Rick Tempest and I are joined by Sonny Bunch, PhD, Editor of The Washington Free Beacon.
We discuss the media's rush to blame the AR-15 for the Navy Yard shooting, Starbucks' announcement on open carry, the Washington Redskins and the media's selectivity with regard to calling things by their rightful names and, last but not least, the Doctors reluctantly wade into a discussion of the GOP's internecine warfare over ObamaCare.
Pay close attention around the hour and ten minute mark to hear Dr. Tempest unveil his Barack Obama and Jay Carney impersonations.

No bidding at Walmart. Under $500 or something with pretty good specs. Under $400 for something that'll work OK.

Well, perhaps. It also gives them leverage over others allowing them to manipulate the inferior other. Especially the innocent, those who harbor self doubt, or have not bothered to think the problem through, or those not having time to educate themselves.
The PC Left feels superior, and uses that emotional state to browbeat and dominate others. Ego, and a projected authority will take you a long way.

CNN student news (yes, it is now my soapbox, what of it?) today featured a video segment on the Starbucks open carry letter. On their web page they suggested having students discuss "what might be the pros and cons of a company taking a public stance on a political issue"
On the one hand, it is an interesting question for the kids to talk about. On the other hand, their reporting was once again trying to skew how kids think about the issue. I am now fully revising my previous "CNN student news isn't so bad" to say, "dammit, now I have to read their crap every day just to de-program my son, probably have to give him a flea bath daily too to cleanse him of their foul emanations"

The fascist Limey fuckwad who sits behind me just went OFF on half a dozen cow-orkers who don't want a carbon tax and don't think the government should be manipulating the market to destroy industries (including the one we fucking work in). And that smug "I am superior to all you science-denier cousin-humpin' clowns" totally came out...if you don't believe in manmade global warming you're an ignorant conspiracy freak and if you don't embrace immediate totalitarian solutions to this problem that hasn't been completely defined (or even understood to be a problem) you're subhuman scum.
He was actually spitting mad. "The science! THE CONSENSUS!" and then I laughed--I couldn't help it, he sounded exactly like that guy who stands on the corner downtown by the monument on weekends and shrieks about how we're all damned unless we confess to Jesus RIGHT NOW.
I gotta share a workspace with this fuck (who, btw, thinking nothing about driving up to Chicago every weekend in his private vehicle, fucking hypocrite).

Just be careful inside the laptop, they pack those things pretty damned tight. And every so often I've come across and odd shaped screw that seems to be designed to ensure only people with a medium amount of talent can get in.

Changing out the CPU seems a bit of a waste, if that laptop is even designed to let you do it. I don't think you get the performance improvement to justify the money.
Hard drives, I understand, especially if it's to an SSD or hybrid drive. Max out the RAM too, but I don't believe anything else on a laptop is worth upgrading. (save the money for a new laptop in the future or something)

the boy turned 12 today. Sadly he is at his father's. But, we had a lovely breakfast before he headed off to middle school. Donuts and bacon.
My contract job ended today. I knew it was coming, but it was an abrupt end to the project, the last few weeks have been pretty crazy making so I am of mixed feelings. One or two more paychecks would have been nice, but on the other hand the risks of me collapsing under the stress of it are now gone.

( Why unarmed military personnel on post? )
The policy of being disarmed on-base was a general guideline for all US bases, but the base commander had the authority to order an exception for his/her base.
That was until an executive order by Clinton which removed all exceptions. Signed in February, 1993.
