AP highlights another teabagging whiner's complaints of cancelation
— Purple Avenger

Anecdotal I'm sure. An isolated case. Nothing to be concerned about.

Dean Griffin liked the health insurance he purchased for himself and his wife three years ago and thought he'd be able to keep the plan even after the federal Affordable Care Act took effect.
Flounder, you effed up...
But the 64-year-old recently received a letter notifying him the plan was being canceled because it didn't cover certain benefits required under the law...
Oh, wait...what was the plural of anecdotal again? It just slipped my mind. Ah yes, now I remember -- DATA. The plural of anecdotal is called DATA.
...The Griffins are among millions of people nationwide who buy individual insurance policies and are receiving notices...

Shit DATA happens

4 I've been cast down with the sodomites too. Individual BC/BS plan. I have changed the renewal date to November, which buys me another year. Insurance agent said that as of now, there are no options for me in the federal exchange for Virginia except HMO's. But if business continues to be bad under Obama's reign, I might qualify for a subsidy. Just want I wanted, to be a welfare case.

7 Dean is probably a racist homophobe. Hell, he probably doesn't even deserve his freedom of choosing his own policy because, if he did, he would know he ought to let the beneficent ruling clique make his decisions for him. The fact that he's whining is proof he doesn't know what's best for him,

Jinx, I'm with you.  Right now my plan is to go without insurance for the first time in my life, and put the wife on the now-tripled-in-price-for-less private plan that replaces our previous plan.  I will not even go on the state "exchange" to check on eligibility for welfare.  Die on your feet vs. cower on your knees sort of thing.

But again - I seriously doubt even THIS gigantic, concrete, indefensible assault on millions of peoples' pocketbooks and freedom will result in any meaningful political fallout.  Meaningful.  As in, not just a bloodbath of historic proportions as 2010 was for the Dems - but a bloodbath that leads to any change (as 2010 did not).  If people don't have the tools and framework to understand their predicament, then their ideas for fixes will have only a random chance of being effective or sensible.

A giant GOP wave in 2014 would not surprise - but any meaningful reversal of the broad degredation of the country, or the rule of lawlessness, or the devolution of  representative "government" into raw rent-seeking and self-dealing and corruption in a way not seen since government got large enough to matter that much?  Nah.

17 My how times change. My wife and I discussed me getting a job because I am bored. Now we discussed me getting a job to pay for our insurance. It hasn't went up yet, but it doesn't take nostrafkndamus to see it coming. We could see a landslide in 2014 if the GOP don't FK it up. If, If my uncle were my aunt she wouldn't have a dick.

25 My cancelled plan was the most expensive, premium once offered by my insurer. I paid extra to have a low deductible PPO with low cost specialty care. The new Obamacare plans are all HMOs with double the premium, double the deductible, and sharply higher costs for specialty care. For all the things I care about, the new Obamacare plan is markedly inferior to what I have now. And, I estimate, based on my avg annual medical usage, will cost me 3-5x more out of pocket. Worse, I have no idea yet if the doctors I see are included in the Obamacare HMOs. I've called my doctors -- they don't even know. There is massive confusion at this stage.

36 I'm not leaving the insurance cos. blameless. I specifically called mine months before I was cancelled to ask about changes that would occur due to Obamacare. At the time I thought I was just going to have pay more cause I thought I was grandfathered (a fair reading of the law says I would be) so I didn't ask specific enough questions I guess. Reality is the clerk I talked with probably didn't even know what was going to happen. He told me I shouldn't expect any major changes due to Obamacare. A few months later I was cancelled.

My statement stands.

Look, my point is that things are looking up for us now.  OCare is an unmitigated disaster, and is unfixable.  This will not play out to the Dems advantage.  If you've been on this site for awhile, and I know you have, then you also know that I take a back seat to nobody in opposing amnesty, but your gloom and pessimism at a time when we're winning doesn't help the cause of defeating amnesty.  That is what you want, right?

46 Too bad so many individual plan holders are getting canceled because it creates a smokescreen that ObamaCare(tm) is suppossed to help those who cannot get a group plan - it is not, it is a tax aimed at getting grannies life savings (she saved up decades for that new hip she knew she was going to need someday) and redistributing it in the form of EBTs for malt liquor.

pep, you may be right about the tic thing.  But for one I cannot get over the very idea that, amidst the ongoing depression, fiscal insanity, and federal lawlessness/scandals now too numerous to list (and they are not trivial - some, like the IRS scandal, are arguably the biggest domestic scandals in US history), the GOP would do anything but explode with derision and outrage at the idea of amnesty.  Instead?  The truly jaw-droppingly unbelievably stupid and offensive Rubio shit, and Paul Ryan beclowning himself and re-branding as a minor fund-raising functionary for the Chamber.

Now I assume that the GOP has been, or soon will be, scared off of the unbelievably stupid, inexcusable, and offensive idea of amnesty.  But they were scared off.  That they even gave it a moment's thought, to me, is very revealing.  And not in a good way.

Then again, soon enough various commenters will be along to correct me, since the immigration system is "broken" because typical bureaucratic snafus affect some legal immigrants, and it takes more than 6 weeks to get your CR-1 after marrying a 19-yr old Ukrainian 40 years your junior, or something.

But eman may be wrong in one regard.  I doubt the "ice would break" even if the astonishing outrage of amnesty were advanced.  I don't think we get a Democratic Party, or a GOP, or a state of the country like we've got, with an electorate that really has any effective limits to the degradation and punishment it will accept or inflict on itself.  The smart and responsible people are vastly outnumbered (an no, not by the "FSA"), and there is no escape from the pernicious cycles that situation sets up.

51 There are a lot of things wrong with Obamacare, such as, you know, its very existence. Yet, even as bad as we knew it was going to be, it still continues to defy expectations. Simple common sense never entered into the arena. Classifying pregnancy as an illness (essentially), thus permitting the under-30 crowd not to purchase maternity coverage, but requiring it for folks like me, is beyond asinine. It's one-size-fits-all coverage, except for those who might need to use it.

66 “Obamacare will take the gun ban that has disarmed more than 150,000 military veterans and expand it to potentially cover millions and millions of additional Americans,” GOA charges.

“Are you ready to have a government bureaucrat decide if you may own a gun or not, with no day in court?” GOA asks. “Once doctors start entering your personal information into the medical database, there will be nothing to stop the FBI from using your medical information to deny you the right to purchase a firearm.

“President ‘Above-the-Law’ Obama has now waived Obamacare for everyone except for us -- the ‘little guys,’” GOA charges, citing waivers for unions, Congress and their staffers, and businesses. “Obamacare is ‘the law of the land’ only when it suits Barack Obama’s purposes.

“The bottom line? Obama can’t force you to comply with Obamacare, if he’s not going to comply with it himself,” GOA maintains.

Make it pretty and pound it everywhere, all the time. Don't talk about shit else. A blitz unlike any subject has ever seen. Posted by: Oldsailors Poet Palin/Bolton 2016 at November 03, 2013 03:33 PM (XIxXP) Yup, their silence now is unnerving. Offer a clear, concrete alternative. Right in the nose.

77 That would be all of them, even the ones who don't believe in smaller government. This is a slam dunk political win. Politicians are capable of realizing it. Posted by: pep at November 03, 2013 03:32 PM (6TB1Z) I think many of them don't want to win. They don't want to be in charge because it's hard and their lives will not change much for the better. If anything it will be worse. When a GOP prezzy who isn't a McCromney gets in office they will turn the DOJ loose on the evildoers that have been stealing from us for the past eight years. There will be an assfull of GOP Congressman and senators in that group.

78 The GOA is off base and hyperventilating.

There's nothing in medical info that could disqualify someone unless they were ALREADY ineligible under current law.

To change that would require changing existing firearms law to incorporate more disqualifiers.

84 76 The GOP needs salespeople - people who can speak with and relate to the general public, are likeable, and have a variety of experiences. Much of the public votes for people, not policies, and it's a lot more natural for most of us to assess people and follow our feelings. Find our messengers/ambassadors, and the bills will follow.

It enrolled him in Medicaid and that was that. He was quite upset. He pinches pennies so that he could have at least a $3k deductible insurance plan and avoid Medicaid (he also refuses to take EITC even though he's probably eligible.) When I told him he couldn't buy a plan under the law because of the Medicaid eligibility he got even angrier. Even treatment in places like India now costs a lot more in greenbacks than it used to only a few short years ago. Because Obamanomics are steadily robbing the dollar of its buying power, both here and abroad.

159 Medical tourism is still, for the moment, economically viable even with the cratered dollar.

The cost delta is in the 5X range for some operations.  A $20k operation might cost $6k now rather than the $4k it did a few years ago.

A big chunk of that is the hugely inflated prices hospitals charge for the actual operating room facilities and subsequent couple of day stay during recovery.

I wonder if some enterprising collection of doctors, or insurance companies, might setup their own private co-op surgical facilities to reduce costs?

I don't think I would, but I have met people who have gone there for everything from a root canal to a quad bypass. Satisfaction seems reasonably high.

Remember this: those Indian clinics are working for CASH MONEY. If they get a rep for killing and maiming and infecting patients, the flow of CASH MONEY will dry up awfully fast. People respond to market incentives. And, CASH MONEY works wonders for pushing past the various inefficiencies and unsanitaries to be found in India.

Note as well that the U.S. medical system isn't exactly a paragon of excellence when it comes to patient outcomes.

Last year, about thirty thousand American died in motor vehicle accidents. Depending on how you reckon it, the number of Americans who died last year from preventable medical error may have been more than _ten times_ that figure.

In 2010, the HHS Inspector General's office said that preventable medical error contributed to the deaths of 180,000 patients that year, on Medicare alone.

164 [i"What are you, some kind of tea-bagger? Help can only be given if others are hurt."[/i] I think this is probably very close to the truth. EVERYTHING is a zero-sum game to the left. If one person is healthy, it means they stole health from someone who is now sick. Magical thinking.

Hold their feet in a tub of hardening cement, then take them for a tour of the harbor.

167 We will have essentially single payer before Nov 2016. The plan was designed to fail.

Great idea. Less strain on this piece of shit I concocted. I'll suggest this to Boobelius right away.

169 Oops. Cleveland does a fake field goal-turned-punt and it dribbles into the endzone. About 10 minutes left in the 4th.

172 We looked into India for In Vitro in India and Surrogacy, The cost is just way lower. Surrogacy is So damn cheap it 100 grand in the US and in India 6-10 grand and the woman is required to live in a dorm We switched DR and it finally took and now I have a 10 month old son. We came soo close to using India, if you go on the DailyMail they always have story's on the Baby Factories in India.

173 Hey!

174 The saying is, "The plural of anecdote is *not* data."

A lot of anecdotes does not data make.

The reason we have anecdotes and not data in this case, of course, is because the administration is deliberately gagging the insurance companies in an effort to prevent them from releasing the data.

175 "Anecdotal" is an adjective. "Datum" is a noun. You can't pluralize an adjective. Jeez Louise!

176 you need to ditch this idea that the plural of anecdote is data. it's a common phrase in medical sciences that the plural of anecdotes is in fact NOT data. Anecdotes collected may not suffer from the same third variable problems, my not reflect the same populations or outcomes and are generally used by Big CAM to sell fake drugs to people. the point doesn't invalidate your thoughts on obama lying about keeping plans - but you should be careful not to discredit yourself or your ideas by linking that to a false notion that anecdotes collected = data.

177 I see that Ass Press is still flogging the LIE that all the policies that are being cancelled are "substandard."

Absolute BOLLOCKS.

The vast majority of independently purchased plans are FULL COVERAGE PLANS, either HMOs or the old 80/20% choose-your-own-doctor plans.

I also notice that they're saying, "Oh, this will only affect 5% of the insured population."

Erm, yeah -- THIS year.

Next year? try 93 MILLION PEOPLE being thrown off their plans when the EMPLOYER mandate kicks in.

Thank you for playing, Ass Press.

178 They completely screwed it up. Their idiocy is transcendent. Instead of working on the mechanics of simultaneously gagging and reaming the public, they spent their time working on the timing of the "roll-out" and the accompanying propaganda, lies, and shiny newness of a tacky website (just like Expedia because they are idiots and slow witless elite adolescents). Axeldouche admitted it yesterday on a talkie head show. He said (and I paraphrase) if only the website had worked, we (media and propagandists) would be talking about how many people had found insurance subsidies and Medicaid (freebies that their website can't record or compute) instead of a small (14 million) number of people loosing their insurance. The timing of the scheme was screwed by their greed and theft of hiring cronies (thanks Michelle's pals) to fail at the marketing and coercion via a shiny website for morons. He admitted it if you listened carefully to his #*(%ing double marketing talk. Now they are screwed and he knows it. He wrote the lies that the dunderhead spouted so he has to go out and spin it. Cons and frauds are difficult and they failed. Nothing angrier than a mark who catches on in the middle of the con game.

179 One of the things that pushed the Obamacare fallacy that more people will be "saved" from early death, bad medical outcomes and enable wondrous cures. My wife worked with a fair number of minority and/or very progressive women. They think this is going to save their relatives and friends from pain and death. Completely ignored was high risk behavior such as drug and alcohol abuse and violence, many and indiscreet sexual partners (AIDS, stds, gunshot wounds), and generation after generation of crazy people reproducing. Nothing in free medical treatment is going to save your ass if you continue to try to kill yourself with horrible behavior.
