AP Poll: Obama's Approval Now At 37%
— Ace

Maybe the fever has broken.

The GOP's doing even worse but then again they're always doing worse.

Most Americans disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job, the poll suggests, with 53 percent unhappy with his performance and 37 percent approving of it. Congress is scraping rock bottom, with a ghastly approval rating of 5 percent.

...

Fifty-two percent said Obama is not doing enough to cooperate with Republicans to end the shutdown; 63 percent say Republicans arenÂ’t doing enough to cooperate with him.

I should note that prior to this very bad poll for Obama, the RCP average had his approval rising a tiny bit through the shutdown. We'll have to see if any other polls show this sort of fall.

10 One thing Obama did at his press conference and that seems to be a talking point of the Democrats is a monumental mistake they keep making the point when it comes to giving in and funding things like the NIH or military families being flown to Dover-- "Why should we fund things that (only) the Republicans care about?" That's a mistake--and it is huge. (You have to give Boehner credit here--he has forced them into that error.)

30 These polls are so all over the map. One day Gallup is at 41%. That same day Rasmussen is at 48%. Two days later Gallup is at 46% and AP is at 37%. Public opinion cannot be changing this quickly. 10% of the public doesn't go from loving Obama to hating him and then loving him again within a matter of 4 days. Rush said earlier that this poll was done before that horrendous speech he gave yesterday.  He also pointed out the AP headline that highlighted Republicans failure but didn't mention the 4 point drop in approval (which would have been the headline if it was GWB).  I expect that speech isn't going to do anything to bring his numbers up.  If anything, I think that speech was very revealing in how absolutely petty, nasty and unpresidential he is.  That speech was filled with lies, horrible analogies, and foot stomping.

It's too bad the MFM refuses to do their job, ask the hard questions and just report the facts.  Shoot, I wish they would just report numbers (how many people were on the Obamacare website, how many people successfully purchased health insurance through the exchanges, true unemployment, how many companies reduced the number of their employees, etc., etc.)

In a fair and just world, this guy would be bounced out of office based on cold, hard facts.

I don't think 37% support is the theoretical limit. . .its probably possible for Obama to go lower, but he'd have to start doing really stupid things that make his base and complete no-information voters abandon him.

Fortunately/unfortunately, Obamacare may well be one of those things.  People can ignore all sorts of things, but a whole bunch of extra money being sucked out of your wallet to pay for worse healthcare tends to attract attention.

Moderately interesting story, but, dare I say it, a "dumb" headline. Doubly "dumb", because firstly, the true meaning of "dumb" is "incapable of speech", and has nothing to do with intelligence, and secondly, because this is a manifestation of a crappy educational system, and not a measure of the intelligence, or lack thereof, of the people.

228 "It doesn't matter what his polls are, we've got 3 more years of the Dormroom Philosopher and his Bong Buddies."

If the Senate flips hard enough next year, impeachment goes on the table, and do not think Obama does not realize that.

If you want to see liberals get abruptly sweaty and shaky, ask them this:

"In 1974, the House issued articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon. One of those articles alleged that Nixon had used the IRS as a political weapon. Democrats controlled the House at the time. And Democrats said that starting the impeachment process was absolutely necessary given the gravity of the charges. So, tell me. Why is Obama using the IRS as a political weapon any different from Nixon? Why should the articles of impeachment against Obama not be being drafted as we speak?"

There really isn't a reasoned response to that. At least I have yet to hear one.

If you really want to get them nervous, start listing other grounds on which Obama is impeachable, e.g., failure to comply with Article II, Section 3, the faithful execution of the laws clause.

Yeah, those two tools featured in that one article earlier in the week (the woman's single policy went up $1800 and the guy's went up $10k/year for a family of 4).  They both had voted for Obama both elections and supported the ACA.  They just didn't expect to be the ones paying for it.  And even though they were obviously unhappy, you know the idiots would vote for him again.  The guy (who had an especially virulent streak of stupid) actually said that he hoped that eventually, there would be some kind of correction, and his premiums would go down (this was after he admitted that he now understood why Boehner and the Republicans were fighting against it--which he initially laughed at, and after he bitched "That's $10k not going into my retirement account, $10k that's taken away from my family, $10k that won't be spent in my local economy.")  Liberalism is a mental disorder.

How much of a fucking failure of a skid-mark do you have to be even to make such a statement? How about this, you sub-moronic toilet crust: YOU don't get to set demands, either. You and your allies in the Senate created this shutdown when you all refused -12 fucking times- to pass a budget which was duly passed out of the House. 361 330 Is there a new replacement term? Ass-cracker backers? Speaking of fags, there's an old King Crimson song ("The Great Deceiver") with the line "health food faggot" in it. For decades I thought it meant, well, a faggot who eats health food. Was spinning that disc last night and the proverbial light bulb finally went on...a "faggot" is a British meatball dish. That's what the line referred to. So, the Brits both smoke fags and munch on faggots. They eat Spotted Dick too, but that's another story... --- Yeah, I had a Study Abroad class over there where they talked about some of this. My personal favorite was the big fat geology professor who'd gone to buy a set of suspenders only to see the salesgirl break into laughter. Turns out that what the US calls suspenders, the UK calls braces. What the UK calls suspenders are those clips used to hold up stockings. A runner-up to that was the story of the British professor who was in the US who made a mistake on his paper and asked the female student in front of him for a rubber.

He hasn't been getting airtime because the more interesting Ted Cruz has been getting all of it instead, something which you can be sure infuriates McQueeg.

But, trust me, McQueeg is still in there and still making a giant fool of himself every damn day. His latest brainstorm being that he says he will introduce in the Senate a clean continuing resolution on debt and spending that takes the country past the 2014 elections.

Psssst! Hey, Johnny Mac? That constitution thing? The one you never pay attention to? Yeah, that. It says that spending bills have to originate in the House. Not in the Senate. Are you in the House? 375 This is my hope-n-change: I hope the LIV Obamaphone voters, who voted for this evil man once or twice or twenty-eleventy times, I hope this poll dips even deeper as they realize the penalty involved for not paying for barfycare, and if they actually have a wage that 1/5 or so will be garnished from paycheck whether they want it or not. THEN! If they manage to hit the jackpot and enroll and the system does not crash, then they realized (Maryland) that NO doctors even take this wonderful plan. Just one of the above would have me seeing red. With Wolf Blitzer and USA Today separately saying the entire, fraudulent-heavy, billion page unread bill and the comupter system (that was apparently tested by monkeys with hand grenades on acid) is "incompetence," then, by George W. Bush, Houston we have a problem. No little PR trips to The Daily Show is going to solve this debacle. No gummy grins from Baroque will heal the wounds inflicted as the LIV's realize they, indeed, will have to pay Monopoly money for unicorn fart healthcare. As I cannot stand to type on this samsung midget computer, which is quite snazzy for trips as it is lightweight and yada, I have limited access to my normal whizzing through cyberspace to gain knowledge and return here to declare it is the wrong day (as I did yesterday, as it FELT like Monday it was such a crappy day). 387 Part of that is because 10% of Mexico's population lives here. And it's not the 10% that can read or do basic math. I'm being kinda snarky, but that has to have an effect on these average. When you have 10s of millions of illiterates flowing across the border, the average "smartness" of a country can't help but crumble. The average adult in Mexico has a third grade education. Think about that. Third grade math includes fractions, adding and subtracting whole numbers, a little decimal manipulation, counting vertices on shapes, times tables, and probably some measurement. Things way beyond a third grader: economics, statistics, logic, identifying logical fallacies, cost-benefit analysis, etc. All necessary for being an informed citizen.

Still, my point about "chips" remains- they aren't the same as our french fries- merely cutting up a potato and frying it does not make french fries.

After an hour he was directed to fill out some paperwork and then to wait.

An hour later he was told because he's on terminal leave until the 18th, he'd need to drive 45 miles to Hinesville (home of Ft. Stewart) to get the renewal there.

Siri couldn't find the damned DMV, so he walked into a police station to ask where it was.  Cop pointed up at a sign above his desk that said, you guessed it, "DMV."  Heh.  He's in a mood.

I worked with a lesbian who was such a diehard capitalist, every now and again she will bring up Obama "this asshole has no idea what he's doing!" She's a bit older, I'm not sure if it's a generational thing or not. I think she voted for him in 2008 but she was definitely backing Romney last year.

It's funny, but he voted for Romney too.  He sidled up to me at work one day and said "You know what?  I agree with you, X, and Dr. Y."  And yeah, he had to say it under his breath and make sure no one heard him (because it is anathema to be a gay man in Capitol Hill Seattle and come out as a Conservative--even at work with people who he agreed with.)

432 White House: Obama orders military death benefits paid to families By Justin Sink - 10/09/13 01:30 PM ET President Obama has ordered officials to resume paying death benefits to the families of fallen soldiers and was "very disturbed" they had been halted due to the government shutdown, said White House spokesman Jay Carney. Carney said Obama had ordered the Office of Management and Budget to work with White House lawyers to find a way to restart the benefits and expects a fix Wednesday. "He was not pleased to learn of this problem," Carney said, adding it was "unthinkable" that those who had lost family members would go without benefits. http://thehill.com/component/content/article/327513-white-house-obama-orders-death-benefits-paid Well a few things Jay--Obama might have learned about it earlier--like at his press conference yesterday--if you allowed reporter to ask questions at random. No.

Since other polls show that a majority of Americans FAVOR the shutdown, i would suggest that the poll is purposefully deceiving. Maybe the correct term should have been "give CREDIT" to the GOP for shutting down the government...a wee bit different...such as "whom do you CREDIT with the government shutdown?" not "blame."  Hm?

Sounds like a journalistic air-brushing to me.

And in Quebec, the people, being marginally less stupid, use the term "patate", which is simply "potato" given a Quebec accent. French fries (actually a Belgian creation), are called "patates frites". Except when they become poutine, which is a dish of french fries covered in gravy and cheese curds. A heart attack in every fork-full. Yummy, it is.

And, Canada being Canada, for official or formal uses of French, say on frozen food labels, for instance, we use the proper French Academie Francaise (official French body to preserve the French language, really) spelling and nomenclature. So Marie in Sherbrooke goes to the Safeway, buys some McCain frozen "pommes de terre frites", goes home, warms them in the oven, and serves her kids patates frites. All the while bitching about the "maudit anglais", no doubt.

When discussing anything about "congress" the specific body should be used, not congress. I'd like to see a poll of how the senate is doing verses the house, not "congress". Bainner and other Rep's would be wise to use such language as well. I'm telling you most people think it only means the house.
