Apparently Syria is on for this coming week
— Purple Avenger

Drudge is headlining this Telegraph story

...Government sources said talks between the Prime Minister and international leaders, including Barack Obama, would continue, but that any military action that was agreed could begin within the next week...

32 So where's the declaration of war? (crickets)

I have had fun with proglodytes by bringing up George W. Bush having said that he didn't need a declaration of war from Congress to attack another sovereign country because what he intended was a "time-limited, scope-limited kinetic military action", not an actual war.

This of course produces hand-waving hysterical fulminations about what an incredibly EVIL man Bush was, and how he should NEVER have been allowed to be President, and how it reflected the UTTER contempt for the Constitution which Republicans harbor.

I then point out that Bush actually did ask for, and get, authorization from Congress for his military actions in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

And that the weaselly circumlocution of "time-limited, scope-limited kinetic military action" actually instead comes from Barack Obama's expressly unconstitutional bombing of Libya on his own say-so.

Watch those libtard heads pop off! It's like Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

34 IIRC, we (US + NATO) fired about 150 Tomahawks during the Libya deal (another war in an odd, non-election, year). UK fired a bunch of those, but I'm pretty sure US reimbursed them for that. I wonder if UK has even replenished their supplies. I thought Libya pretty much tapped them out.

CIA/Special Forces trained jihadis are finally ready to move on Damascus from Jordan. It makes sense to offer them protection by bombing Assad's troops, air assets, and missile batteries. What's the point of investing if you aren't going to protect your investment? This stinks to high heaven. The Syrians are NOT rising up against Assad! They have suffered enough against foreign interference and have weathered the storm! So here comes the corrupt NWO to bully, maim, and murder on behalf of the banking and oil cartels.

98 The Only Remaining Online Copy of Vogue's Asma al-Assad Profile

Rose in the Desert

http://tinyurl.com/7hmhyeu

... Syria is known as the safest country in the Middle East, possibly because, as the State Department's Web site says, "the Syrian government conducts intense physical and electronic surveillance of both Syrian citizens and foreign visitors." It's a secular country where women earn as much as men and the Muslim veil is forbidden in universities, a place without bombings, unrest, or kidnappings, but its shadow zones are deep and dark. Asma's husband, Bashar al-Assad, was elected president in 2000, after the death of his father, Hafez al-Assad, with a startling 97 percent of the vote. In Syria, power is hereditary. The country's alliances are murky. How close are they to Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah? There are souvenir Hezbollah ashtrays in the souk, and you can spot the Hamas leadership racing through the bar of the Four Seasons. Its number-one enmity is clear: Israel. But that might not always be the case. The United States has just posted its first ambassador there since 2005, Robert Ford.

Iraq is next door, Iran not far away. Lebanon's capital, Beirut, is 90 minutes by car from Damascus. Jordan is south, and next to it the region that Syrian maps label Palestine. There are nearly one million refugees from Iraq in Syria, and another half-million displaced Palestinians.

"It's a tough neighborhood," admits Asma al-Assad...

103 where the Congressional authorization comes from to conduct military action against Syria?

A president can do pretty much whatever the hell they want until the war powers restrictions kick in.  At that point, congress can in theory pull funding for an action to shut it down.

Prior to that, congress really has no hard enforcement power against the executive short of impeachment and removal.

Otherwise, Assad's Shiite minority allied with Iran, and majority Sunnis of various stripes (including Al-Qaeda).

In retaliation, Brazil was threatened with a virtual embargo of its products by the European Union's Trade Commissioner, one Peter Mandelson, according to another confidential memo I got my hands on. But Lula’s refusenik stance paid off for Brazil which, alone among Western nations, survived and thrived during the 2007-9 bank crisis. China signed – but got its pound of flesh in return. It opened its banking sector a crack in return for access and control of the US auto parts and other markets. (Swiftly, two million US jobs shifted to China.)

And the actual number of burned churches is closer to 90. One destroyed church missed their first Mass in over 1600 years. The muzbros have also destroyed homes and businesses belonging to Christians.
They all said their Egyptian sources are absolutely astonished that President Michael Jackson is taking the side he has been.
No one mentioned Huma Abedin's family ties to the muzbros.
No one mentioned this story, which may be sort-of push-back against Li'l Barry:

Maybe an internet search for maytag pump parts will turn up something.

339 #318  I can't speak for the Jews,  but as a Catholic I can tell you that a lot of people consider themselves Catholic and self-identify as such even though they don't have anything to make them Catholic except perhaps their initial baptism and perhaps confirmation.

Most of the democrat Catholics ignore the Church's teachings and rarely attend mass.

However,  the Church won't kick them out as they are in the business of saving souls and feel like if the door is open they will come back.  This is,  of course,  God's way of doing things but it allows these same fake Catholics to go around claiming to be real ones.  And,  of course,  the press likes to tout "60% of Catholics voted for Obama."  If you checked the per cent of PRACTICING Catholics who voted for Obama,  it would be near zero.

344 Not Jewish myself, I can't explain why American Jews, as a community, counter-intuitively vote as a bloc for the Democrats

We've had this discussion before, but one book to start off with is Norman Podhoretz, "Why Are Jews Liberals?". Since he's one of the conservatives.

I'm unsure if Norman is classed as a neo-con or not. He shares with the neo-cons a sense that (Stalinist) Communism and Islam are ideological movements and inherently inimical to, well, everybody. I don't know what he thinks about projecting "Americanism" abroad, which is the trait that the neo-cons inherited from Trotsky. I agree with him wholeheartedly on the former.

350 Speaking of things that break, by the time I get this post finished we;ll be 200 threads into the ONT. But: After the divorce, had to buy a microwave for my new hovel. Went to Walmart and got a fancy GE. All the bells and whistles. $160. 'Seven' months later its throwing an error code and wont work. I call GE, they say call Walmart. Walmart says its a month past their deal, so call GE. This goes in a loop about 3 times. Finally GE sends a repair man out, no doubt costing more than the Microwave. He sees that my new hovel has no ground, and a fake ground adapter thing on the plug. Immediately says its the ground and leaves. So a week goes by and I remeber that the landlord had a new up to code outlet in the bathroom. Tested it and the ground was correct. Hooked the microwave up to an extension cord and called the repair place back. A new guy comes out, and I explain why the other guy left without touching the microwave, and that its now properly grounded. He checks and verifies that it is. Then opens his parts book, and sees the only servicable part is the glass turntable. Says sorry about your luck and leaves. I go into the kitchen, look at my microwave and punched it hard enough to dent the top. Error code goes away, and its been working fine for over a year since.

Sarin or Cianide was dumped in the Euphrates.

When the dolts tried talking to me about WMDs, I'd give 'em The Look and ask, "Can you say 'Halabja'? I think you can." Most of 'em never even asked about Halabja.

Apparently evidence for chemical attacks in Syria only lasts for a few days, hours even.

However, evidence for chemical contamination such as dioxins or a chemical spill lasts for as long as the EPA requires. Years, decades.

Funny things, your chemicals.

Russian has dropped the diplomatic equivalent of a fuel-air bomb into the mix. If this 'adventure' into Syria spins outta control, we're looking at Armageddon on a stick, and everyone on earth will get reamed.

Now, that we've heard from the bear, we have to wait for the dragon to weigh in and tell us what China thinks about matters.

There've been some interesting shenanigans in the UN over all of this, as well.

Russia? Essentially, they've told that we're sticking our dicks in a meat grinder, and they'll be turning the handle.
