— Ace I gotta think that a lot of people are thinking about NannyCams right now, even with no kids and no nanny.
Of course, some might also be thinking about a gun.
The Essex County prosecutor's office said 42-year-old Shawn Custis was arrested in Manhattan by the prosecutor's office and the FBI. Custis faces charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary and child endangerment. A judge set bail at $750,000.The attack last Friday in Millburn was captured on a hidden camera in the woman's home. A man can be seen bursting into the home, punching and kicking the woman and throwing her down the stairs while her 3-year-old daughter cowered on a couch.

we hate home invaders that beat up women in their own "safe' environment.
If she would have pulled out a gun and blasted his guts out, dems would be on whose side?
it's a question isn't it?

The issue is would/should she have been allowed to use a gun at this point to stop him? according to the new gun laws they want enacted?

2) PowerLine has a great point regarding how the leftists view the Tea Party as a greater threat than Al Qaeda. It's because they see us as terrorists attacking their religion, government. So, it's no accident they use "Tea Party Republican" in their fundraising efforts--it's "San Francisco liberal" times 1000 with an extra helping of blood libel.

Rush spoke about the infiltration of gangster culture into the NFL this week. I would go so far as to say it is infiltrating more than the NFL. I have had several discussions with my grandson about how trash, tattooos and violence are infiltrating his suburban high school. He doesn't like it.
Posted by: Miss Marple at June 29, 2013 02:53 PM (GoIUi)
That's true based on my experience, too.
In the case of the NFL, this is enough to make me find something else to do with my time during the NFL season. Aaron Hernandez is the most egregious case since he likely committed at least three murders and shot another guy in the head, with two of the murders taking place before last season and Patriots fans (including moi) actually rooted for the guy not knowing he had likely killed two guys. Also, look at Colin Kaepernick. I'm not accusing him of committing any crimes and he's obviously free to get as many tattoos as he wants, but he looks like a freakin' convict incarcerated at San Quentin. His look really perpetuates the thug culture of the NFL, whether the player is actually living the thug culture or simply looking like they would like to be linked to it. Then you have how many other NFL players from different teams who have been arrested for various crimes since the end of last season? Every team pretty much can face the same problem since the pool of players that they are picking from include a decent percentage of former gang bangers, friends of gang bangers, and other criminals.
The worst part is that, in general, most of the other professional leagues aren't much better morally than the NFL, especially the thugs playing in the NBA and, to a lesser degree, in Major League Baseball. But, of course, the latter has serious performance-enhancing drug issues, as does the NFL. Perhaps it's time for most sports fans to limit sports viewing to the NHL so we're not spending hard-earned cash that goes into the pockets of scumbags and thugs.

Graph has been floating around with arrests per team in the NFL. Go to sports grid dot com and you'll find an example. Since this most recent Super Bowl, 29 NFL players have been arrested. Since 2000, the Vikings and Bengals are tied for most arrests with 40. Houston Texans and St.Louis Rams are tied for least with 9. Patriots had 15, tied with Dallas. Oakland had 19, if anyone was wondering.
The Oakland Raider bad boy thing is ancient history. The league caught up and passed Al Davis a long time ago in every catagory.

Posted by: logprof at June 29, 2013 03:40 PM (fOFYL)
I do know his background and strong educational performance, as well as his upbringing, but he's certainly picked an unusual way to display his faith, especially considering the stigma associated with an excessive number of tattoos. By all accounts, he's a good kid. It's certainly his business but he has to know how it is perceived based on the behaviors of 90+% of individuals who go for the same tatted up look (including Aaron Hernandez). I am just very critical of people who get an excessive amount of tattoos, which are a favorite practice of gangster culture and criminals. Anything that normalizes oft-used practices of gang bangers and criminals is not exactly something any of us should be enthused to see in our society and culture.
BTW, I feel the same way about baggy pants hanging down below the ass crack, which has been in fashion for the past 20 years or so, as has the use of ebonics. The fact that both of these practices are favorites of kids of all races in suburbia, not just in the inner-city, is especially disconcerting. Oh, yeah, and I also don't like change, kids on my lawn, or listening to that damn rock music.

It's very difficult for me to not only support scumbags playing a sport, but to invest time and money doing it. In the defense of the teams, how the heck do you prevent it if you want to be successful? Hernandez slid to the fourth round of the NFL draft because every team was concerned about his background. Even the Patriots passed over him five times in the 2010 NFL draft despite Hernandez being a first-round talent. If they didn't pick him, someone else probably would've soon thereafter. Plus, the Patriots have taken on problem players in the past but they behaved and became very good team-oriented players who stayed out of trouble. Well, until now and this one pretty much invalidates all of those success stories
It probably would have been better for Hernandez to get picked by a different team in a different part of the country so that he wouldn't have been so close to his hometown, as he was from Connecticut before attending college at U. of Florida. That's not an excuse because the guy is obviously a POS but it certainly didn't help the situation. Knowing what we know about him now, I'm actually surprised it took 2-3 years for him to resort to start acting like a criminal.

One of the things I always liked about the Bronco's owner Bowlen (sp?) was that for a long time he made a practice of not bringing criminals into Denver. Lately though he's really gone away from that principal, and the worst part is that the players of poor character that he "had to bring in to stay competetive" end up being duds and drains anyway.

335 Can't Monsanto genetically modify mangoes?! Good grief.....I'm exhausted after trying to peel, cut and eat one...not to mention I paid for a pit the size of a hand grenade.
If the mango is soft ripe, no need to peel. the pit is narrow, fillet the mango off the pit with a flexible knife, score the fruit into diamond pattern, and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.
we like hard green mango, and use a vegetable peeler then slice off the flesh and eat with vinegar and soy sauce.

The NFL has had this problem long before Hernandez made his debut. The player character quotient has been lowering at an increasing rate ever since Clinton was president. That's when the MFM deemed it unnecessary to have good character. As long as one does his job.
Posted by: Soona at June 29, 2013 04:22 PM (frEVO)
You're 100% right. The character quotient for our entire society has been lowering at an increasing rate for decades.
I don't know if we can blame Clinton, but he certainly made it easier for some people (i.e., his supporters) to excuse poor behavior. Of course, they not only excused it but attacked those of us who expected more from people and a civilized society. Suddenly, I was called a hypocrite for bashing Clinton and supporting his impeachment because I had engaged in underaged drinking back in college, received a speeding ticket, and, worst of all, had pre-marital sex. Honestly, that's what a couple of liberal acquaintances said to me in the late '90s when the Clinton impeachment was being debated. They apparently thought I was a member of the evangelical wing of the conservative movement despite them knowing that I wasn't particularly religious. I just believed that people who have been given responsibility and great power over others should have character and be ethical. Of course, they thought the same when a Republican was in office but suddenly didn't care when a Democrat was in office. Yet, I was the hypocrite.

That's my point. If you simply gave every parent $10k to spend on education, you'd see a lot more variety of schooling and tailored to individual needs. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the one room school houses made an appearance again in a lot of neighborhoods.

What do you think the liberals would do to you in such a state - if you were to shoot an assailant? Remember, to Liberals - criminals rank next to Muslims as a protected class.

Completely given up on it. The schools here no longer teach cursive at all, although at 19 I'd have though she was old enough to have been in school when it was still taught. I insisted my kids learn because, being mildly dyslexic, cursive helps keep the letters in the correct order and facing the correct way.

The Patriots were that way at one time, but it makes it difficult to be competitive in the league when an increasingly higher percentage of scumbags exist among the possible players you can draft and sign as free agents. The players are simply a reflection of our society as a whole. There are honest, ethical people among us, but it seems like there is a constantly decreasing number of scumbags.

Driving back to school in a '78 CJ5 with my girlfriend one year. Just as we were in the very middle of the highway 65 JFK Bridge over the Ohio, we heard a loud metallic object bounce off the undercarriage. I joked and said 'it's nothing, the tranny just fell out'.
At the exit I had no clutch. The linkage fell off! Made an emergency stop.
I walked back across, found the linkage laying in the highway, walked back to Kentucky, reinstalled the linkage and secured it in place with my boot laces!
Have a safe trip!

Charter schools are still tax money so there are a lot of strings attached.
We are what is called unschooled as opposed to home schooled. The kids know what they need to get done and learn to set their own schedule. They are forced to think for themselves.
The best part is you are not tied to public school schedules. We take vacation during off peak times (no crowds). Anytime we want a 3 day weekend or the wife wants to travel to relatives it is no problem.
I refuse to let the government set my schedule.
Funny enough, this worked very well when I worked rotating shifts for NSA. lol

I learned to write and become proficient at cursive by the time I left second grade. And, yes, I was taught in a public school.......in 1956.
I think the reason cursive isn't taught in schools nowdays is because of what you wrote. There's too much original American history written in cursive, whether it's a letter from one of our founding fathers or our own fathers and grandfathers. Mustn't be teaching our kids that, huh?

two separate things....
1. the thug element in the NFL
2. public schools
----------
The two things are related, though, NDH.
The thugs are products of the sorry state of our public schools.
Another factor is the 'sealed records' of young thugs...permitting them to commit a myriad of crimes while they are young, without it showing up in their adult record.

I coach and occasionally substitute teach at one. The local public schools hate us because we take their kids (more importantly, the tax dollars attached to them). Charter schools have to follow the same regulations and take the same End of Grade tests as the public schools, but have more flexibility in deciding how to achieve their goals. Oversight comes from the charter school's executive board instead of the state Board of Education.

For us unschooling just means we don't try to be a public school at the dining room table.
Our kids never spent more than three hours a day on their work. If you make sure they can read well, and are provided with plenty of good literature, everything else will be fine. Good reading comprehension is the most important thing.
Every home schooled family is different, find what works for you and your kids.
Our next to youngest spent her freshman year in Alaska, sophomore year in Florida, Junior year in Dubai, and Senior year back here in Oklahoma without missing a beat.

I've got an idea for a cellmate for this fellow, when or if he goes to the can. There's a Chinese American woman out here in Orange County who just got a "life" sentence [eligible for parole in 7 years--"life" my ass!] for cutting off her ex husband's "manhood" with a 10 inch butcher knife. She then threw it down the garbage disposal. No Lorena Bobbitt mistakes for her--that ding a ling isn't going to get sewed back on.
Now truth to tell she had managed to tie the guy to the bed before she started her "kitchen work" as it were. So maybe somebody will have to tie this clown to the bunk in this cell. Then bring the woman , a knife, and a garbage disposal into his cell. What could go wrong? Would she be a repeater with a cleaver?
