— Ace It truly is insidious, I think, this devotion to cause such that one would seriously -- earnestly! -- urge others to fight with family in order to advance a political goal.
It's not just about the casual denigration of the family in favor of the Real Family, which is of course like-minded socialists in the Progressive Cult. It is that, but it's not just that.
Devoting our whole show on Wednesday to how to talk about politics, news with conservative family members. Should be fun!
— Christopher Hayes (@chrislhayes) November 25, 2013It's also this idea that a person's highest aspiration is to be... A telemarketer. Or, as there's nothing "tele-" about picking fights with your family in face-to-face meetings, an epimarketer, then.
There is a terribly strange notion affecting the country, chiefly on the left but sometimes on the right, that man's highest calling is to be a Public Relations Account Manager.
But I'll put that aside to get to the funny stuff. Via @johnekdahl, enjoy this email from Organizing for America.
Do not read it hastily; the most magical sentence in the email is the second sentence.

Updated: I added Eekdahl's Chris Hayes tweet. This is coordinated, he says.
It's interesting-- why is this sort of thing not being discussed on the right? Why is it, apparently, only the left that has Daddy Issues and thus needs a Conversation Checklist when meeting with family?
Not to say that the right won't talk politics at family gatherings, but you don't see this weird combination of Advocacy Checklists, Comforting the Anxious, How to Deal With Dad, and so forth every year from the right.

Crikey. My ultra-leftist sister-in-law (she lives in Barry's old district) is coming to town for Thanksgiving. Might be a good time for me to get shitfaced rather than starting a nuclear war at dinner. Of course, since she cannot help talking about how much faith she has in Obama (her word: faith), I foresee a great disturbance in the Force, like a 50-year old man intentionally puking in someone's face.

Chances are, folks at the dinner table look to you with either dread or condescension, because they know you're a bloviating windbag who hasn't had an original thought since preschool and either they don't want to be bothered by your latest inarticulate brain fart or they want to hear what fresh stupidity your government masters have tattooed on your tongue so as to better mock you and your pitifully small penis and/or breasts.
Remember this Thanksgiving: there's a reason no one hugged you enough as a child, and yes, your mother really does hate you.

PLAN YOUR TALK
Take a moment to plan when, where, and how youÂ’ll talk to your family about health insurance.
PICK A TIME
Start early: Don’t wait until the last minute—be sure to start the conversation early! Integrate the talk into family time: Take advantage of downtime after meals or between holiday activities to start your talk.
THINK ABOUT HOW YOUÂ’LL BRING IT UP
Make it personal: Be honest about your feelings and why this is important to you.

I've got one of those little liberal Bush Hating, Obama Loving nephews. His mom sent him off to NYU to get a degree in drama --and now at 45 or so he can't find a job that's "suitable" for him and so sponges off his mother or his occasional girlfriend. Oh he had some jobs--as a bellhop in a San Francisco hotel and as an assistant manager at a Kinkos--but none of those were "right for him". In some ways it's not his fault--he grew up in San Francisco and was always worried that someone would nuke a gay whale.
Anyway the useless little twerp came over to a Thanksgiving dinner one time a few years back and laid a load of his Obama lovin' on another guest--an older woman who's grown up in Eastern Europe. I don't mind if he simply irritates his relatives--but insulting a non family guest is over the line. So I've not let the little twerp back in my house for four or five years now. Don't think that will change--ever.

And then the conversation will move to her brother.

Misconception: Insurance will be too expensive for me.
Tell them: There are a variety of plans available in the new health insurance marketplace, so you can pick one that fits your budget. ThereÂ’s also financial assistance available based on how much you make. In fact, almost 6 in 10 uninsured Americans may be able to get coverage for $100 a month or less.
While you're spinning, try and convince them your college "roommate" is only a roommate....

PLAN YOUR TALK
Take a moment to plan when, where, and how youÂ’ll talk to your family about health insurance.
Because nothing says "relaxing, friendly family get-together" like planned communist propaganda.
PICK A TIME
Start early: Don’t wait until the last minute—be sure to start the
conversation early!
That will give the rest of your family plenty of time to plan where to hide your body when they "accidentally" bludgeon you with a can of cranberry sauce mid-meal!
Integrate the talk into family time: Take advantage
of downtime after meals or between holiday activities to start your
talk.
Because your family hates you anyway, so why not make them hate you that little bit more?
THINK ABOUT HOW YOUÂ’LL BRING IT UP
Make it personal: Be honest about your feelings and why this is important to you.
And when your family is honest with you about how much of a fucktwaddle you are for believing Obammy's bullshit, remember: it's okay to cry.
(But cry in private, or else Cousin Emily will give you another atomic wedgie like she did last year when you were yammering on and on about "green shoots." And this year'll be worst: she's SIX.)

But seriously, folks, doesn't this just capture the nature of post-1960s liberalism perfectly? Young 20-something "activists" assuming that their older relatives are stupid and don't have "facts," even though
(a) the "uncles" likely have jobs that don't involve politics;
(b) they've likely been married and had children and had responsibilities for taking their kids to the emergency room, or helping their sick or dying parents and all the other life experiences that 20-somethings haven't had;
(c) they've undoubtedly had much more experience buying insurance products than the 20-something;
(d) as older people, they've likely had much more experience as consumers of healthcare (can you say colonoscopy?) than the 20-something;
etc.

If they start up, hold up a hand to shut them up, then hold out that same hand and say, "You want to talk about fairness, you can go ahead and pay me for that meal you're about to eat/have already eaten. It took me X-hours to prepare, plust the time it took to earn the money to buy the ingredients. Since you believe in fairness I assume you believe in a mandatory minimum wage of $10 or more. Let's go with that. So, that plate of turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, stuffing, dinner rolls and butter, and gravy comes to... oh... approximately $200 all told. You can pay me now, cash only.
"Oh, you don't have $200? Then you can go hungry.

... and then pa roared "Obama is a bronzed god you little Tea Party shitweasel" and lifted the turkey up out of the tray and fetched it down butt first over Luke's head, and Luke shot up out of his seat and commenced to dancin' around the room tryin' to get it off as the hot stuffing burned his face, like some kinda berserk turkey-headed space alien, and then he tripped and fell headlong into the china cabinet and smashed the heirloom punchbowl and all the dishes, and cut an artery in his right arm.
After that Pa calmed down and quietly insisted there was no need for further discussion about politics, since he'd clearly won the argument.

So according to the hermaphrodite, we need to discuss something that is completely unavailable...
Let's discuss why the jugeared dumbass decide to plow forward with this mess.
Did he know how bad it was, and just jumped in with those big flotation devices on his pretty chocolate head?
Or is he a really stupid dumbass who never took Econ 101.
Of course, the douche is named "Chris".
If anyone dares to pull this shit, and I know they won't, there aren't any idiot liberals in my immediate family, I would be going all Bobby Conrad on them, for sure.

SON: Dad, Mom, Sis...I think it's really important that we talk about healthcare.
DAD: You mean Obamacare.
SON: No, Dad. I mean the Affordable Healthcare Act.
DAD: I see. Well, have you bought your Obamacare Insurance yet?
SON: .....Uhhh, no. I'm not 26. You can carry me on your insurance till I'm 26.
DAD: Yeah, but we're not going to. We already took you off the policy.
SON: Wait, WHAT?
DAD: Yeah. We COULD keep you on our insurance till your 26, but we don't HAVE to. So we took you off the policy. To be honest, with this new insurance nonsense it was the only way to keep the premiums low enough so your mom and I wouldn't end up living in a cardboard box. You understand.
SON: But... I can't AFFORD my own insurance!
DAD: It's the Affordable Care Act, isn't it? That's what you keep saying. So you should be able to find something affordable. Pass the potatoes.

While I have read the comments I must admit it would take big balls for someone to they and peddle O-Care this Turkey Day as a plus. The Voice of Reason part made me laugh. Who wants to be the jackass this Thanksgiving selling O-Care?
My guess is whoever tries this will be laughed at and ridiculed as Voice of Stupidity.

Liberal: "...and Obamacare."
Me: "Time for our new tradition."
Liberal: "What's that?"
Me: "To see if a turkey can fly." *grabs Liberal's arm*

Sadly, there's no one in our family to discuss the joys of failed socialist healthcare programs with.
All we have around our table at Thanksgiving are folks with degrees in chemistry, engineering, math, computer science, electrical engineering, retired military vets, and one young lady working on a PhD that spends all day staring at DNA strands in a lab. We're fresh out of lazy ass shitheads with more piercings and tattoos than brain cells.

Detective closes notebook, looks at partner, then back to the father. "We will write this up as justifiable self defense."

"This fight has always had one goal: providing all Americans with better health care at more affordable prices."
so the point is that they failed on both accounts.

Father, "He started to talk about how affordable this new health care is."
EDIT:
*Detective closes notebook, looks at partner, then back to father*
Detective: Affordable, huh? If you walk into your family's Thanksgiving celebration and try to defend that shit, there's no way you expect to walk out alive.
Partner: You said it, buddy. Damn suicide by talk.

Yeah, 5 years of the Second Great Depression. No jobs. Real Estate still dead. The "economy" flatlined. The middle class impoverished, health care wrecked, and Israel sold out. Going from "post racial to most racial."
Heck of a job, Barky....
