November 20, 2013
— andy Oregon has made a decent bit of healthcare news in the last few months, and, given the totality of it, should probably change its nickname to "The Cautionary Tale State".
First, the Oregon Obamacare exchange, "Cover Oregon", must've set some kind of record for its first couple of months in operation:
Oregon, a state that fully embraced the Affordable Care Act, is enduring one of the rockiest rollouts of President Back [sic] Obama's signature health care law, with an inoperative online exchange that has yet to enroll a single subscriber, requiring thousands to apply on paper instead.
Zero. Point. Zero. They really Blutarsky'd that one.
But hold on. What was this from the country's health insurance sales headquarters?
Great news: The number of Oregonians without health insurance dropped 10% in 2 weeks —> http://t.co/Aqf0u3PUfG #ThanksObamacare #GetCovered
— The White House (@WhiteHouse) October 17, 2013How can this be? The exchange has zero subscribers, but there are 56,000 new Oregonians with "health insurance" now?
Here's the health insurance salesman-in-chief:
HereÂ’s another thing that the Affordable Care Act does. In states where governors and legislatures have wisely allowed it [wouldn't be an Obama speech without a dig at the GOP --andy], the Affordable Care Act provides the opportunity for many Americans to get covered under Medicaid for the first time. So in Oregon, for example, thatÂ’s helped cut the number of uninsured people by 10 percent just in the last three weeks. Think about that. ThatÂ’s 56,000 more Americans who now have health care. (Applause.) That doesnÂ’t depend on a website. (emphasis added)
Yes, think about that. 56,000 more Americans now have health care. And what awesome health care it is:
The big headline from the Oregon Medicaid study is that paying for people's health care saves them from spending their own money (duh!) and marginally increases some self-reported psychological indicators (that is, stuff like "how do you feel?" which can be affected simply by the knowledge that someone's paying your bills) but does nothing whatsoever to improve the health of people on Medicaid.Leftists, seeking any kind of spin, are now lauding the Medicaid program as the greatest anti-depression program since the Mousketeers. But is that really why the country is paying $7.5 trillion dollars on a program? To make people feel slightly better emotionally, without any tangible physical improvement?
So there you have it. 56,000 people were added to a program with no discernible benefit to health outcomes. Heckuva job, Oregon. Heckuva a job.
And this is what Obama touts as a success.
Oh, and did I mention that federal taxpayers are also $245 million in the hole for Oregon's non-functioning exchange?
Outstanding.

BIL is 60 next year. He is already making plans to retire if the Medicare reimbursements are actually cut.
Every year they pass a budget assuming the Fed Gov will cut Medicare reimbursements by ~25%. Every year (so far) they later pass a bill rescinding those cuts. If they do not rescind the cuts, most doctors will lose money on Medicare.

I'd call it welfare... It's a program that lets them get medical care (and drugs! Can't forget the drugs!) paid for by a third party, if they can find someone willing to accept the third party's promise to reimburse them a tiny amount that may not even cover their costs in an untimely fashion.
So, like insurance, but extremely shitty insurance.

This is what it all really boils down to. This is not about realistically and materially helping people who don't have insurance. It's emotional for the Libs. They "feel" better about themselves after programs like these get enacted. They're "doing something" doncha know. It makes them feel superior too.

This really IS their plan. And, so far, it's working. Ocare was designed to fail but still take the American economy with it. Same as QE. Same as extended unemployment, same as EBT cards, etc. And with all of this, the crushing grind of regulations that have been foisted on the moneymakers unchosen moneymakers of this country. Add to that the 91 million people who have given up on finding another job.
I'm surprised the economy (it's bad, but it keeps rolling along) has lasted as long as it has.

Funny thing about those Medicaid numbers...
I did some digging, overall Medicaid represents about 25% of state expenditures. That's total expenditures for all states.
If you look at individual states however, Oregon's Medicaid expenditures are about 11-12%. Significantly below the national average.
Why? I don't know, but the state is an outlier, regarding Medicaid numbers. Missouri has the highest pct., at 35% in 2112, and Wyoming the lowest at just over 9%.
Something to keep in mind, as they play with these numbers.

Anyway, direct quote from local fucktard:
"Doctors don't need to make over $1million a year to give proper and excellent Health Care. And they definitely don't need to be driving extremely expensive cars or SUV's."

From an Orrin Hatch press release:
In 2011 Medicaid spent an average of $6,982 per beneficiary. However, the average spending per child was only $2,851, while the program spent $17,958 per person with a disability and $15,931 per elderly person.
So, 56000 x 7000 = $392,000,000 per year.
And that's just for Oregon and just as of now. Imagine the total nationwide a year from now.

Another change likely to boost enrollment: under new rules mandated by the federal health law, savings or property is no longer a bar to membership; application is now based strictly on income for the month in which someone applies.
All you need is low income for that month, and bam- Medicaid-funded subsidies. Doesn't matter if you have a million in the bank or make $75,000 a year in a seasonal job.

The report I'm looking at probably has overall budgets, but the Medicaid portion shows $808 million general fund for Oregon, $3.75 BILLION for Washington! That's a huge difference. Just scanning the different states, I would like to see a per capita break-down, but Oregon looks very low.

A new and independent analysis of ObamaCare warns of a ticking time bomb, predicting a second wave of 50 million to 100 million insurance policy cancellations next fall -- right before the mid-term elections.
The next round of cancellations and premium hikes is expected to hit employees, particularly of small businesses. While the administration has tried to downplay the cancellation notices hitting policyholders on the individual market by noting they represent a relatively small fraction of the population, the swath of people who will be affected by the shake-up in employer-sponsored coverage will be much broader.
Which is why I've been shaking my head ever since Obammy issued that illegal executive dictat of his to delay the employer mandate. Does he think it's going to be BETTER for him and his Demonrats come the midterm elections?

Looking at "ObamaCare" from just the financial end of it, this has got to be the greatest waste of money spent on absolutely nothing in the history of the world.
Tote up the costs of all the failed websites (federal and state), and the costs of taxpayers paying for Medicaid for all these new enrollees coast to coast, and the higher premiums paid by everybody, whether in the individual or employer marketplace, and it's mindboggling. And not one aspirin has yet been dispensed for all this cash.
It will take a generation or more for the USA to recover from the excesses of Democrat party leadership. The GOP holding the US House of Reps has merely applied a slight brake to the speed of light financial ruin the Democrats have embarked upon.

IIANM the law requires that. And on top of that when you turn 65 if the individual does not go down and apply for medicare at 65 and they later do apply they are penalized (part B). The longer past 65 they go the more they are penalized. And the penalties get heavy.

I'm running into some problems getting prescriptions for narcotics filled because of the frequency of refills. It seems CVS has a limit to the number of prescriptions they will fill per month for narcs. I was a day early bringing in a script. They called me and told me I could wait until the next day and fill it or pick it up and go somewhere else. I picked it up and filled it at Walgreens and paid out of pocket because Tricare cancelled their contract with Walgreens last year. I tell you what, you couldn't pay me enough to sell those little suckers.

Over prescribing of opioids, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants and anti depressants is out of control. I spend 50% of my time monitoring and discussing medication managment of our Workers Compensation unit. I suspect a good percentage of my claimants are selling or sharing their drugs. Because of those concerns in the industry, these pain management doctors have found another scam to make money and that is to have drug testing done every 3 months under the guise they are complying with standards. Finally bringing the scam into line but its a constant battle.

Because President Jarrett wanted a Big Hairy Reform Of The Whole System. A simple Medicaid expansion was just a ho-hum, typical liberal incremental expansion of existing welfare programs. Nothing President Jarrett could claim as a "signature achievement." And it would have to be paid for under budget rules, coming on the heels of the $880 billion Porkulus bill. Red-state Democrats and all Republicans would have balked at another tax increas to pay for a little bit more Medicaid.
The main point of Obamacare was to create a brand new entitlement for middle class, mostly white working people who have abandoned the Democratic Party. Not to get some crappy health care to a few more poor blacks and Latinos who they knew were already voting for them.

Could have been a co-incidence

I think it's why we have the governance that we have now. Many, many of the US' population are on these drugs. And what do psychotrophic drugs do? They make everything seem just peachy. Don't worry. Be happy.
Most of these drugs are nothing but chemical shackles.

But this isn't about helping people in need. It's about corrupting people to bend to the leftist will. A few stronger minded sorts will resist but for all too many it is easy to become accustomed to dependency and very hard to vote against it once the voter is an effective ward of the state.

It's a good way to keep your fortunes from having to be broken up over generations. If your grandkids marry your brother's grandkids, the family trust remains intact.

We used to have places to send people that wig out over everyday bullshit. We don't now. Psychotrophic drugs are way over-perscribed.
Just for shits and giggles, the next time your with a group of friends or at a public function, just ask around how many people are on some kind of anti-depressent or narcotic pain medication. It's going to surprise you.

They move parts of their community around, to get around the whole genetic divesity thing. A bunch of young boys and girls will move to a community in another state, and that community reciprocates.

>>I don't get how people can sell their pills. I mean, don't they need them? But, I guess the reality is there are a lot of doctors out there still willing to write prescriptions for pain pills that aren't really needed. I don't understand how it works, I had to go through practically an act of God when my doctor decided to prescribe me 5 pills for pain for a procedure.

.Go to the VA, they hand that crap out like candy. I have to refuse them almost every time I go in there. It's automatic when you say you are in pain there.

Yes. About ten years ago my late wife went zombie on me. Wouldn't leave the bed except to relieve herself, wouldn't communicate or bathe, even. Literally hauled her to the Doc who ran every test, could not find any physical basis. It took some fiddling but when she got the dose of Paxill & time-release right Emily snapped out of it and became normal again.

Covered California has placed some of that Fed (taxpayer) Money with leftist activist groups who will be going door-to-door in order to inform the poor people of their options, i.e. health insurance.
So, not only is Obamacare a huge intrusion freedom wise, choice wise and security wise, it's also a huge funnel for Democrat activism, money wise. Of course that is part of the Obama scheme, making sure Democrat's retain power ad infinitum.
The hubris of the Democratic party however has come back to slap them big time, by not having completed the website and having rolled it out dysfunctional in operation, and guaranteed not to be working by the final, final deadline of November 30th, will no doubt lead to the dreaded death spiral of both the law and the party.
