— andy From Vic in the morning thread comes this piece:
“Chase Power … has opted to suspend efforts to further permit the facility and is seeking alternative investors as part of a plan of dissolution for the parent company,” Chase CEO Dave Freysinger told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.Freysinger made it very clear who was responsible for the projects death. “The (Las Brisas Energy Center) is a victim of EPA’s concerted effort to stifle solid-fuel energy facilities in the U.S., including EPA’s carbon-permitting requirements and EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for new power plants,” he said.
...
“These costly rules exceeded the bounds of EPA authority, incur tremendous costs, and produce no real benefits related to climate change,” Freysinger commented
As a reminder, the executive branch, Obama's EPA, took these actions unilaterally after congress wouldn't cut the economy's throat by passing cap & trade. Who could have possibly predicted the outcome of such a policy?
TFG, that's who.
The only thing I've said with respect to coal, I haven't been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a (sic) ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.
It's just that it will bankrupt them.
And bankrupt them it did. Well done, low-info voters.

This. Once "government" became the overarching power base, then taking control of said "government" is a goal - "governing" simply isn't part of the equation anymore.

Ideology will trump logic, practicality, feasibility, capitalism and individual rights and freedoms.
Every.time.
Popular history disparages Nixon for Watergate, but it is his EPA has done much, much more damage to America.
The other thing that concerns me with this subversive traitor is that we are far from done with things that will "necessarily skyrocket".

Repeat
Focus on the 2014 election is also imperative. It’s going to be like 2010, but this time around we need to shake up the GOP machine that tries to orchestrate away too much of the will of constitutional conservatives who don’t give a hoot how they do it in DC. DC is out of touch, obviously. Voices on the right like Mark Levin, Rush, and the writers here at Breitbart have come out strongly against the “go along to get along” politicians who wave the white flag before the battle even begins
And that underlined part is why the damn EPA is killing us. Remember the EPA was put in place by a REPUBLICAN President.

The APS plant in Farmington, NM scheduled 3 of its 5 units for shutdown. It's fired by coal from Navajo Mines. Something like 80% of employees are Navajo. The EPA also rejected the planned Desert Rock power plant, despite its no emissions design, in 2009.

Molon labe our coal, suckers.
If Ahhnuld had had the beginnings of a pimple of a testicle, he'd have taken some NatGuard troops to the CV water pumping stations and turned the water on, then dared the feds to do something about it.
I'd have done it. Just imagine how popular someone would be for standing up for liberty. And food.

If you delve into the logic of the left, it's easy to see why they want to destroy the coal industry. For them, coal is "dirty" because it releases evil "carbon" into the atmosphere in the form of CO2. And CO2 is bad because: Global Warming!
Many of the objectives of the left can be understood when you realize their utter and total belief in anthropogenic global warming.
Why the push for green energy? Because coal has to go away since it promotes global warming.
The irony is that as the world slowly opens it's eyes to the scam that is global warming, Obama and the left in the USA are still embracing it and formulating policy around this belief. And it is, at this point, simply a belief system that fells good to them.

Actually it is deeper than that. They want coal to go away because of their blind belief in AGW, but they so blindly believe in AGW because of their irrational conviction that human beings are a plague on Mother Gaia. They really are anti-human. Like Andy (?) posted the other day, scratch a greenie, get a Malthusian.

down the Navajo Generating Station in Page, AZ. The power plant employs almost all Navajos, the main coal supplier provides 1000 jobs to the Navajo Nation. The unemployment rate for Navajos is 50%. Yet the Navajos vote exclusively Democrat. The Sierra Club and others claim the plant creates pollution and haze over the Grand Canyon. This plant sends most of it's power to Los Angeles.

so let's review... people like Kucinich create 10 million roadblocks and hurdles for starting up a nuclear power plant, along with creating a nationwide fear campaign that having a nuclear power plant within 100 miles of your home means that you are going to have children with 14 toes... all of this means that any private investment in nuclear power will (a) have a very very long horizon on when returns may be expected, and (b) be demonized by liberal pressure groups as being "pro-radiation" and "pro-death".
And then Kucinich wonders why the private sector doesn't do more to support nuclear power, twisting conservatives' arguments against us, with snide claims like "if it's SO GREAT, why doesn't that magic free market that you all SO LOVE provide all the money? HUH??? It must be that nuclear power SUCKS and the only reason you support it is because you're an ideological right-wing pro-corporate anti-planet environment-hating wingnut!!!!!!"

I've been thinking about this, too. The problem is that community organizing is somewhat antithetical to a conservative mindset. Conservatives want smaller government and want it out of their lives. Community organizers basically create victim groups that demand the government give them something for being wronged.
We need a better organized, national level TEA Party-like organization that has the power for activism, and that can promote good political candidates.

the entire fucking country, is coal mines in part...
fucking up the US economy is like fucking up mashed potatoes....
1) recession/Depression!
2) exploit natural resources to regenerate capital
3) increase energy infrastructure to increase US competitiveness as a desirable physical plant for industry
4) apply new industry and the people's healthy desire for gain to dominate the new field
5) maximize gain giving the good or service to the greatest number of people at best price point possible
6) diminishing returns leading to
1) recession/depression!
we have hundreds of years of cheap energy in coal and NG and shale....
we are not allowed to streamline and maximize our markets...
because of religion the Greenie Gaia gestapo's religion

be a damn shame if we maximized Texas, louisiana, and a core of states population and accepted lower wages to attract blue businesses and at some point either invoked the Xth amendment or used the surge in illegal to push for ART V and break up.......
"damn shame"

We spoke with the policyholder in December and there was some misunderstanding/confusion on our part on how he used the vehicle. We have reached out to the policyholder and hope that we can clarify usage of the vehicle and continue his policy.
They answered back awfully fast - probably a mail filter to catch these particular inquiries.
I think I'll cancel anyway. I felt pretty stupid when I figured out Geico meant Government Employees Insurance Co. I need a shower.

Had Coach Ditka run in his place he would have destroyed Barry in the senate race and we would have been spared this commie asshole. Nice hash by the way

I believe price is a big factor. Natural Gas, right now is cleaner than coal and much much cheaper. It makes sense for a utility to switch from an older coal plant to a new Nat gas plant. EPA regulations aside, price is the big factor....U.S. coal demand will contract by 120 million tons in 2012, with fuel switching in the first half of the year accounting for roughly 100 million tons in lost consumption.
The price of Nat Gas goes up and down, so it is not always cheaper. But, WV coal is so expensive, it is dropping in volume.

But...if you're a power utility you'd rather not build coal plants anyway.
Gas comes in through a pipe and it burns in pretty much any kind of equipment you'd care to burn it in.
Coal needs a rail spur (which implies a railroad), it has to be cleaned and pulverized and you still don't have as much flexiblity in the actual generating unit design as you do with gas.
So gas is going to be the preferred fuel as long as a utility can count on a reliable source at a competitive cost.
Mind you, we know that the Browners and the Holdrens and other such scum would love to cripple fossil fuels entirely, but the unicorn-fart contingent hasn't won yet.
