Ashley Judd, Fortune-Cookie Feminist
— Ace

Via Hot Air, a recapitulation of Ashley Judd's bizarre extreme feminist statements.

Seriously, they're SCUM-level.

— On her decision not to have kids with her husband: “It’s unconscionable to breed, with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries.”

...

- On fathers giving daughters away at weddings: “To this day, a common vestige of male dominion over a woman’s reproductive status is her father ‘giving’ away her away to her husband at their wedding, and the ongoing practice of women giving up their last names in order to assume the name of their husband’s families, into which they have effectively been traded.”

...

- On how Christianity “legitimizes” male power over women: “Patriarchal religions, of which Christianity is one, gives us a God that is like a man, a God presented and discussed exclusively in male imagery, which legitimizes and seals male power. It is the intention to dominate, even if the intention to dominate is nowhere visible.”

- On men: “Throughout history, men have tried to control the means of reproduction, which means trying to control woman. This president is a modern day Attila the Hun.”

Hit the link to see the ones not about feminism (like about the coal industry and the "environmental holocaust" in the US rivaling that of the human holocaust in Rwanda).

This configuration of "feminism" just seems to be Marxism for people who don't like math or economics.

Buzzion:

We're all thinking it. What a lovely woman.

7 I'm sure you've already heard this story- but Judd met with the DNC recently to discuss whether she was electable. This news was on the mainstream media in our state. While even the DNC is wary of running someone with her background, this idea keeps creeping forward.

This president is a modern day Attila the Hun.” I think that the current estimate is that 1 out of ever 8 people on Earth are a descendent of Genghis Khan, so this is plenty of precedent for this.

I'd like to think the people of Kentucky would be too smart for this woman to stand a chance as a candidate, but you can rest assured she would bring in every single hollywood celebrity who can find Kentucky on a map and try and get elected based on her celebrity status.

Heck, years ago Oprah went on trial down in Texas for making fun of beef, and wowed the locals and beat the charges.  (I'm sure the 1st amendment covers making fun of food and she shouldn't have been on trial in the first place, but her celebrity status turned the whole thing into a farce.)

Marxism uses the language, sort of, of math and economics.  It tries to compete on the field of economics, but it really has nothing to do with them.

All Marxist arguments are moral in nature and all Marxist predictions were false.

The reason why there is a liberal arts major version of Marxism is because it is a religion.  It is to be "believed" it is not subject to testing.  It have moral assumptions.

Sorry, got to differ. Modern day (i.e., post-suffragette) feminism was always shit. It was and is merely a vehicle for Marxist agitation. I was in Berkeley in the first full malignant flower of feminism (in the 70s), and young Judd's views were if anything more moderate than those of most feminists.

Feminism was just a way of creating another disaffected class that would be susceptible to Red agitprop (and also to mainstream homosexuality, which feminists were encouraged - and expected - to try).

Posted by: AmishDude at February 26, 2013 12:50 PM (T0NGe)

Yep. The whole premise underlying Marx's analysis - his labor theory of value - is risible. So the value of an object is determined by the labor necessary to create it? Really? So filling in a pothole with a teaspoon would create more value than doing so with a skiploader?

Once the labor theory of value is rejected - i.e., once you stop laughing - the entire Marxist edifice collapses. It is the economic equivalent of basing chemistry upon transfers of phlogiston.

104 At least 75 top Republicans have signed a legal brief to be submitted to the Supreme Court this week, arguing that gay marriage is a constitutional right, according to The New York Times, which got a copy of the document. The court is preparing to take on the subject of gay marriage late next month, when it will hear oral arguments on the constitutionality of California's gay marriage ban, Proposition 8, and the Defense of Marriage Act. It is expected to render a decision in early summer. The signers of the document are mostly out-of-office Republicans or former top officials, including former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, former Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio), former Massachusetts Govs. William Weld and Jane Swift, and former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman. ????? Excuse me, but 75 TOP Republicans? 149 52 Btw who uses the word "breed" when referring to have children? Actually that term is a Kentuckism - it derives from being around the horse industry so often. She is spouting the standard stuff you read and hear in History of Women classes (also taught Western and American History sub-topics ) all across the country. It doesn't take intelligence, just the ability to recite lines like a parrot, and to cut and paste quotes onto your online journal.* ( They all boil down to the message that "Women are all victims, waahhh, associating with men on any romantic level will lead to your slavery...hissss..blame males for every evil event in history... did I meantion that we are all victims." ) I actually took a few courses at one point and turned away in disgust from the abandonment of any pretense at authentic research and honest publications. Most historians regard the entire field as a joke. *Judd is infamous for stealing famous, old Kentucky quotes and claiming them as her original thoughts to her fans outside of the state. 181 On her decision not to have kids with her husband: “It’s unconscionable to breed, with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries.” Good grief she's thick - what causal relation is there between her 'breeding' and the number or situation of poor kids in impoverished countries.' I mean, I think her argument is sound if she predicated it on the health of the gene pool (after all, she's just another Hollywood airhead debutante member of the lucky egg club who's rich not because she earned it but her mother farted her out one day), but I don't think she's even bright enough to perceive that. In other words, she's the perfect Democrat senator and will fit right in with the morons that populate the party. Plus we need affirmative action for puffy Americans...

There was a time when I wouldn't give a celebrity novelty candidate like Judd any odds at winning in a state like Kentucky. Every belief she holds is antithetical to everything her home state represents. She's an airhead, a lightweight, a fool. But then the ugly mug of Al Franken appears in the mists of my consciousness, followed by Arnold Schwartzenegger, followed by a whole parade of twits and idiots now holding high office, and I realize she has a very good chance, indeed.

It would be a serious mistake for Kentucky Republicans to take her lightly. They could start by running TV ads containing nothing but Ashley Judd quotes, ideally the ones she's made on camera. No commentary, no voice-over narration. Just play the quotes and let her hang herself.

It sucks that they hold the word that mist people associate with general equality and thst they've twisted it to mean anything but equality.

Having seen feminism at its birth, I associate the term not with equality (not a chance, not even close), but with the unholy melding of militant lesbianism with Marxist agitation.

Feminists then crapped on (white) men constantly, holding (as Susan Brownmiller famously did) that all sex was rape, etc., and attributing the "patriarchy" to capitalism, which they wanted to overthrow. (See where we're going here?)

Feminism is no more about women than environmentalism is about the environment. Proof: prominent feminists refuse to condemn the treatment of women in Islamic countries ("it's their culture," and of course all cultures are equally valid, except ours), but howl about miniscule imagined slights here. (Re environmentalists, consider how many are up in arms about Chinese CO2 emissions. Answer: zero. Apparently only our CO2 kills polar bears; theirs doesn't.)

What are we seeing here? These are not legitimate movements; they were astroturfed by the Reds, and have been taken up by well-meaning but not overly clued in people elsewhere. In short, the agitprop worked.

187 One of McPuffy's most execrable movies was the wretched Someone Like You (yes, long before Adele, there was a shitty movie with the same name).  It had the worst elements of romantic comedies you can imagine: the faux-deep navel gazing of Sex and the City, the over-the-top fixation on sex (most sitcoms today); the unfunniest jokes playing on male/female stereotypes (think How I Met Your Mother, but even less funny).  I'm surprised it even got a 5.9 on imdb.  It's total shit.

P.S.  Don;t even bother asking me why I saw that horrrawful movie.  My man card is firmly intact, and safe in my wife's purse.

Since you asked,

"Patriarchal religions, of which Christianity is one, gives us a
God that is like a man, a God presented and discussed exclusively in
male imagery, which legitimizes and seals male power"

That God is like man is one possibility, although Christianity as presented in the New Testament does not present a God that is like man. Acftually, God is quite different than what man is like.

Another possibility is that man is like God, but imperfectly so. But then you would have to believe in God to believe that. So in the end, the question boils down to does God really exist. In my experience, non believers argue the point from overwhelming ignorance.

231 Deadline Hollywood. Scientists confirmed today that the mass-die-off of poor 3rd world urchins that coincided with celebrity retard Ashley Judd's giving birth was in fact causally linked. Had Ashely Judd obtained an abortion, the thousands of poor kids in Sub-Saharan Africa, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, would be alive today. Its all the more astonishing commented one scientist, since Judd, opining on her recent delivery, appeared to know in advance the fate that was to befall these poor kids. She had noted "I just thought it was another discharge, they sometimes bite and scream, but when I found out it was a alive and human, I knew all those impoverished third world kids were just doomed. Somehow, its all the Republicans' fault." Satire.

Yeah. Come to think of it, if she's so anti-"breeding," why hasn't she had a voluntary hysterectomy? If she still has her uterus there's always the chance that, regardless of whatever birth control she uses, she may get pregnant. If she removes her uterus she wouldn't have to worry about that ever again!

I doubt that.  I'm sure this uglysouled woman has the closest abortion clinic on speed dial at all her homes, and at any set she is miraculously able to find work on just in case.

Oh, of course McConnell has the balls to use all this stuff, and he will.

There has been one woman Governor of Kentucky, Martha Layne Collins, and she was a Democratic hack who worked her way up over decades from state audirot to secretary of state to Lt. Gov. and finally it was her turn and she got to be Governor, and if Kentucky didn't have a one-term limit she probably would never have been elected.  It just isn't a state that has any history of women in leadership.  An Elizabeth Dole-type might have a chance there, but certainly not a childless celebutard with zero accomplishments.

It's rather funny because we have a large number of registered Democrats who always vote for the Republican senators and presidential candidates. 277 rockmom at February 26, 2013 01:30 PM (NYnoe) Kentucky has elected (and kept in long-term office) female state senators. Elected women in major state offical roles and the recent mayor of Lexington was a female. You can't visit a city council or state leadership group including our legislature without dealing with females in leadership roles. Martha Lane Collins was as much of a party hack as every other typical party leader (in either party) who works their way up the rank towards running for the governorship. Gender had nothing to do with it. Why discount the fact that Kentucky had one of the first female govenors? I was subjected to a far-left friend of a friend, who recently posted that Kentuckians would not elect Judd because "we still lived in the dark ages". So, the meme will be that if we don't elect Ashley this is proof that we are still barbarians living in caves chewing on raccoon fat . Just as not electing Obama has labeled us the racist state. Let's just say we are far better than most at seeing through BS.

There's an inverse relationship between her level of attractiveness and her public espousal of feminist crankery over her career.

The older she got, and the emergence of younger, attractive competitors that arrived on the scene taking parts that she used to get are factors directly related to the stridency of her comments.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 26, 2013 12:01 PM (MuHYc)

304 Ashley Judd is stupid and/or ill informed. God is not presented in the Bible exclusively male imagery. here's just a few examples: A: Female images for God (drawn from womenÂ’s biological activity) 1. God as a Mother: a. a woman in labor (Isa. 42:14) whose forceful breath is an image of divine power . God is threatening to come against Israel in power, a power likened to the forceful air expelled from the lungs of a woman who is in the final throes of labor. Calvin misunderstood IsaiahÂ’s intent and construed this as an image of maternal tenderness! b. a mother suckling her children (Num. 11:12) c. a mother who does not forget the child she nurses (Isa. 49:14-15) d. a mother who comforts her children (Isa. 66:12-13) e. a mother who births and protects Israel (Isa. 46:3-4). In contrast to idol worshippers who carry their gods on cattle, God carries Israel in the womb. The message to the people is two-fold: it demonstrates GodÂ’s superiority over other gods, and reiterates the divine promise to support and redeem. In short, GodÂ’s maternal bond of compassion and maternal power to protect guarantee IsraelÂ’s salvation. f. a mother who gave birth to the Israelites (Dt. 32:1 The biased translation of the Jerusalem Bible ("fathered you") obscures the feminine action of the verb, more accurately rendered "gave you birth": JB: You forget the Rock who begot you, unmindful now of the God who fathered you. NRSV: You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.

305 Actually, I do sort of see her point about fathers "giving away" their daughters although it was phrased in a infelicitous manner. I have never had any woman object when I have said "How would you feel about this being said "Who presents this woman to be married to this man" and that way both the parents can be involved.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 26, 2013 12:21 PM (MuHYc)

307 “To this day, a common vestige of male dominion over a woman’s reproductive status is her father ‘giving’ away her away to her husband at their wedding, and the ongoing practice of women giving up their last names in order to assume the name of their husband’s families, into which they have effectively been traded.” Nothing asserts the feminist independence of Teh Patriarchy by refusing "to assume the name of their husband's families" quite like steadfastly holding onto the name of their father's families.

312 oops- spotted some needed clarification: she left her degree unfinished for decades, and then around 2010? suddenly finds out she can gain her degree without the formally require course. What I'm reading into this situation is that Ms.Judd decided she wanted to run for office a few years ago, after playing Lady Benevolent in Africa. She began to tidy up her creds.to disguise her academic mediocracy and incomplete degree. Perhaps she had DNC handlers with connections to help her get a free ride into Harvard where she could earn a highly dubious degree to further beef up her political portfolio. That masters is being waved like a flag by her supporters as proof of her intellectualism.
